I had some time to kill and decided to find a coffee shop and maybe a small breakfast. Drove by and found Java Man. Ambiance was cool and location was great. A lot of seating inside and a few seats outside too. Was warmly greeted by the dude behind the counter. They had a big breakfast menu. He recommended the breakfast burritos as being popular. My fav so I went with one. It was ready after a couple minutes. I had high hopes! Sadly, the breakfast burrito was small and microwaved. I could barely rip it from the paper it was wrapped in because it was so sticky. The insides didn't taste good. The salsa it came with didn't help. So that was all super disappointing. I'm sure if I had got a bagel or something it would have been a better experience. Anyway, I may be back but I won't be getting a burrito. Cool vibes otherwise. read more

I work in this area so I come here often. Love the location. Parking is never easy in Hermosa but they have a 15 minute parking which is good to order and leave but it's so nice to just sit and enjoy your coffee and people watch. I like the Avocado toast and all the sweet treats. Coffee is good and the guys who work there are so sweet and patient. I like coming here it's a local spot and I haven't tried many food items yet so I can't comment on that but lines can get long I go around 10:30 or 11 during the week and it's not much of a line. read more

My review is exclusive to their pastries and coffee. This is a friendly neighborhood coffee shop which makes a really good straight forward latte. The gentlemen at the front are very hardworking, welcoming and give a good service with a smile, which is makes this place better than most hipster coffee shops I go to. Both the hot and iced version of lattes are good, not too strong or milky. They offer other drinks including americanos. They also have various milk options including Soy and Oat milk They also have a decent selection of pastries and muffins and bagels. I tried their cinnamon roll and coffee cake. The cinnamon roll had too much glaze and raisins (who puts raisins in a cinnamon roll?). I should deduct stars but I think that would be biased so I won't. The coffee cake reminded me of the ones served at a LAUSD school cafeteria. It brought back memories and made me smile. It was hot fresh and not too sweet. This would be a great place to catch up with a friend since it has an assortment of tables and couches along with tables outside. I have seen people get work or studying done. You can also get food here and I will give an updated review once I tried it. However, note there is no public restroom, since it's on pier ave, parking can be hard to find, and this place gets packed pretty quickly even at 9am on a weekday. So if you plan on coming here to get work done, come early. Otherwise, you are better off taking your drink and enjoying it at the Hermosa Beach Pier. read more

I was hoping this place would be great since each time I pass by it it appears packed. Today was the day! And man I was disappointed. The selection of baked goods was limited, but I didn't think anything of it because I was there for "famous burritos" that they claim are so good but when you order them they are premade so cross your fingers you like everything inside them! This was a bummer for us because we don't eat cheese. There was no where to sit, which I totally understand, however, if the customer is no longer wasting or drinking they should vacate the the space. Love it here! This is our regular weekend coffee place. We love the team here! They know your orders if you are a regular, and are super friendly. There is usually a long line, but it's not because the service is slow, all the locals just love coming here. They are quick and efficient and if it's not too busy you might get lucky enough to share some laughs with them. I really like Java Man, I go there on weekend mornings to relax and draw. My only gripe is how loud it gets in there. I'm not sure management would be comfortable saying keep conversation between each other down to a lower decimal so people don't have to talk over each other. Been coming here for their generous and delicious iced matcha latte and to work out of in their cute "home" office for about five years. I was happy they finally open the doors to work inside after temporarily shutting down during the pandemic. They have a wide variety of drinks, sandwiches and wraps, daily homemade pastries and more. I love working out of here because of the cozy, beachy vibes. The staff is friendly as well! Def. recommend coming here, especially if you're working from home. The inside is like a home turned into an office with a living room and two bedrooms that include a mixture of seating: tables, communal table and sofas. Coffee fanatics, this is a spot for you! Just stop by early in the morning and you will see a line out the door to prove it. I am clearly not the only one obsessed with this gem in the heart of Hermosa Beach!! I've actually come to do work when I get tired of the office setting here and it is the perfect amount of noise & quiet. But the absolute reason why I come to pay $4 for a cup of coffee is their Mexican Mocha. I have tried other hot coffees but this brings me a little piece of home. It's a bit of cinnamon/chocolate taste plus the coffee that I really enjoy. They also have breakfast burritos, pastries of all kinds, bagels, etc. Given they are now made from scratch but sometimes you just need something quick & delicious to grab on the way to work. This is a quaint spot that serves solid food and coffee, but needs some cleaning, more unique flavors and space. I agree with another review that this shop is utilitarian. It serves up the basics and it's a functional spot with chairs, tables, coffee, edibles. FOOD: I had the turkey burrito that tasted fine. It's a solid 3.5. 4 is a stretch. I dipped it in the salsa they provide with it and that helped. COFFEE: I had the white chocolate mocha, which tasted pretty decent. It didn't taste much like white chocolate. Again, someone else wrote that it's strong and darker, no delicate flavors happening. I would agree with that. There was no uniqueness to the flavor. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Good! They were very polite and nice. I had to ask one of the servers to wipe the tables but they were accommodating. no attitudes. AMBIANCE: Very cozy and comfortable with some soft cushioned chairs and wooden tables. But the walls were extremely dirty and a little cringe-worthy. Also, the loud, yellow paint on the windows can come off. This lovely place has much potential and that paint is hideous. read more

I used to really like the breakfast burritos here and am not sure if they made any changes but haven't been loving them quite as much as I used to. Still perfectly adequate though and well-priced at $4.75. The sizes are a little small, so if you want a simple, cheap breakfast burrito then this can be a good option in town. read more

Three stars because of it's location, on Pier Ave, closest to the beach. (very convenient for if you just came off the Strand & want a quick java fix or jump on your laptop). It's cute from the outside. Has that indie appeal. Wasn't too impressed with the inside, other than it was a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. (It looks like a tiny hut). Service was meh. I say this because I was with my BFF (yeah we are in our 40's & still hang out) and her boys - not little ones, more like mountain sized 20 something year olds that have baby faces & could be mistaken for HS age. Anyhow, the man taking our ordered appeared to be bothered with us, because her boys kept asking questions & so did we. I guess it was irritating to him to have to explain to visitors who don't frequent. We got our drinks and honestly was not impressed. Read the reviews & also judged by the way it looked on the outside & even the way the glass counter display of baked goods & the menu, it seemed it would be a real treat. But it wasn't. For the prices (expected since it is after Hermosa Beach & plop smack on Pier Ave) but it tasted good, not great. Baked goods were the same. I have had better in boring cities. I guess it's all right for everyone else, because of it's location and that they have WIFI.
