It was my first time trying this place. I ordered a large iced caramel latte. I clearly said "large" but the cashier entered regular. When I got my drink, the cup looked small but I just thought that's the size of their large. When I got back to my car, I looked at my receipt and I was charged for regular. I can't believe I paid almost $7 dollars for this drink. It didn't taste like caramel at all and they charge $1 for the caramel flavor! If you're charging an extra $1 for flavor, make sure the coffee tastes like caramel! read more

I went with my mom for a quick brunch, and I was excited to eat here, as I'd only ever gotten a latte before (which was super yummy). We walk in and notice the cute decorations on every wall, which created a cute ambiance. HUGE menu!! A fantastic variety from drip coffee, lattes, matchas, and even alcohol! My mom ordered her usual Avocado Toast with a hard boiled egg, and I tried out the Morning Sandwich with scrambled eggs and bacon. The employees all seem to have a positive energy about them which we love (: We got the food very fast and it was busy! I can tell the employees work hard. I tried the avocado toast and it was good- I would've liked a tiiiny bit more avocado but that's just me. For my food, the sandwich tasted great, good proportions, nothing was burnt or undercooked, I liked it! My only piece of advice for this one is that it felt that the sandwich needed a side of something with it, maybe hash browns or potatoes as it looked small on the dish it was served on, but was great! If you are going to be open for lunch make sure you have the staff to run your restaurant efficiently. You are in a popular area and you are always busy but I shouldn't have to wait 20+ minutes for Gazpacho. One girl to clean tables, run orders and prep take out. Really? Maybe the manager should be there to help but you are understaffed and the customers shouldn't have to suffer because of that. Don't be open if you can't handle the volume. read more

I've been to Java Nation in the Kentlands a handful of times. The food has always been good. The other day I had a croissant stuffed with brie, fig jam and walnuts, a guava and cheese pastry and a delicious cappuccino. The service was prompt and friendly. However, the music is just too loud. I know this is the norm, but even with my headphones in, I could not mute the loudness. When the music is played at a high volume, the patrons talk "extra loud" just to hear each other. I've order from Java nation many times through Uber eats in the past but today was the last time. I ordered a gluten free avocado toast WITH salmon. I received regular toast NOT gluten free and no salmon. I have Celiac Disease if I would have eaten that toast I could have had a severe allergic reaction. Not to mention the home fries came undercooked and raw In the middle. I won't be a returning customer but as a restaurant you should train your employees to review orders so this does not happen again. read more

This is a great study/chill spot with beautiful decor! The seating area was nice and it wasn't too loud inside. I got the iced matcha latte (should've asked for it to be sweetened) with sweet cold foam and empanadas (really tasty!) Bought the Morning Sandwich ($9), Avocado toast with Salmon ($13), Green juice, Green smoothie. Very expensive and the food were small portion size. Not worth it. I didn't receive the tomato aioli with my Morning Sandwich so I had to ask for it. I asked the server and it seemed like she didn't know what I was talking about so she told me to ask the counter person. The server didn't give us utensils and said to get the plastic ones above the trash can. I saw others with "silverware" utensils so I had to ask the person behind the counter for some. Then I asked the server if there's any dairy in the smoothie but she didn't know. I asked her if she could ask the counter person and she did. Sigh. It was frustrating but I enjoyed my time with my daughter thankfully. We won't be coming back. read more

I would give 5 stars for the food and general service but Had to post a 1 star review as I've seen the below repeated hygienic issues with the baristas. 1. ALL The baristas all have their thumb touching the back of the ice shovel when shoveling ice. 2. At least one of the baristas uses her hand to funnel the ice into the cups thereby touching all ice. 3. Today this same barista took the ice toppling on top of the cup and threw it back with her bare hands into ice bin. Today I threw away my 6 dollar iced latte and went to Starbucks across the street. I don't want a free drink compensation. I'm only posting this to hopefully get managements attention so they can train their baristas because I live in the Neighbhor hood and do love the food but the repeated issues with drinks is a turn off. I was so excited to try this location since I've had great experiences with the other Java Nation. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be returning after my experience. I ordered a vanilla iced latte and toasted bagel which came out to around $11. I should have known something was off, but the latte I received tasted more like watered down iced coffee and it didn't have the consistency of milk. Tbh I don't think it had milk OR espresso in it lmao. The bagel came out barely toasted and was completely gooey on the inside. Overall, I was not impressed and will likely not be returning - this area is highly competitive with many better coffee/brunch options and imo Java Nation needs to up their game if they intend to stick around in the Kentlands. read more

For coffee this is a good place but made the mistake of ordering chai latte which was way too sugary. Asked the counter, they said it is probably from chai syrup , so people I recommend stick to Star bucks for chai latte for now. I have posted a suggestion to Java nation on their site to provide a sugar free chai latte or to warn customers that it comes loaded with sugar, but so far no one has acknowledged it. read more

Hit or miss. First time I went I had the brussels sprouts and a blackberry mule. Both were delicious! Coffee drinks are extremely bland. Iced dirty chai is overly creamy (no chai taste whatsoever) and I paid for extra shot of expresso to help. Drink the second time around ended up being fine. $9 for egg and cheese on an English muffin... yea no thanks. And also - nothing special. Staff is really nice, but somehow the customer service lacks. Sometimes you get actual silverware and your food brought to your table, and sometimes they ask you to stand by the coffee area and wait to pick up your order and you get your own plastic ware. It's kind of weird. Overall - I'm sure this place will eventually be awesome. Just not worth my time or money. Might be good for a date night where you are ok to spend the money... or you can just go next door to the sushi restaurant, which is absolutely amazing. Best of luck to Java Nation. Really good food and even better service. Only reason it's missing a star is because it's pretty expensive.
