Came here for the busy Easter Sunday and was a very pleasant experience. Had made a reservation through OpenTable and was seated right away at our time. Was very busy going in but service was on there game very accommodating. Waiter constantly checked on us and brought drinks and food pretty fast. Had gotten 3 steak tacos and they were amazing! A girlfriends night out. The decor is gorgeous, but it is so loud inside. We could barely hear each other. The acoustics are terrible with no soft surfaces everything echos. We waited 30 minutes to be seated, despite a reservation, in a very hot little space. The food was OK. The service was good. It feels like they're trying to be a high-end restaurant however they don't have the quality of food, drinks or service that's on par with that. All of their cocktails are made with low tier garbage liquor like Stoli. We made reservations well in advance and they sat us next to the door/host stand with the AC blowing directly down on us. It was so cold I had to ask the manager to move us. She moved us to the back near the bathroom/kitchen. I had an extremely disappointing experience at Javier's. I made a reservation over a week in advance and was still seated late. After being seated, it took nearly an hour for our waitress to properly attend to our table, and we eventually had to ask another waiter to take our order. The biggest issue was with a whiskey drink that was poorly prepared, overly bitter, and not presented properly from the moment it arrived. When we politely brought this concern to the manager, Maytee/Maite, she immediately became defensive and blamed us by claiming the ice had melted because we "let it sit too long." We explained this was how the drink was originally served and respectfully asked for either a replacement or refund. Instead, she refused, said "I'm just going to leave this drink here," and walked away mid-conversation. We then asked to speak with another manager, Carlos, but instead of listening and professionally resolving the issue, he immediately defended her despite not witnessing the interaction himself. The issue was never about the money -- our bill was over $550. The issue was the dismissive, argumentative, and unprofessional way the situation was handled over a single drink. I do not recommend Javier's Pasadena. The management lacked professionalism, accountability, and proper customer service skills. I will not be returning. Mastro's Steakhouse would never handle customers this way. read more

Arrive to Javier's without a reservation, but we found two seats at the back bar! The hostess was very nice and transparent and reminded us that they are booked for days on reservations, but we could watch for an opening at either bar. My wife and I proceeded to the back bar and sat down and was immediately greeted by Sam, the bartender! This gentleman gives exceptional service! You can truly tell that he has a sincere and genuine nature to want to create experiences and relationships with customers, something you do not see as often. My wife got the steak salad and I got the filet mignon and lobster tail and both were cooked to perfection! She got a cucumber spicy margarita and I got the strawberry margarita, and WOW, they were STRONG! Holy guacamole! Lmao! This restaurant is absolutely breathtaking! I am seeing a lot of bad reviews but my experience was different, granted I did go lunch time and most of the reviews sound like dinner experiences. The staff and servers were very friendly and helpful. My mother and I really liked the ambiance and decor of the restaurant. The food was delicious. They bring chips and salsa before you order. We got the Javier's la tablets (sharable for two) and a javiers special salad. Both were delicious. For dessert we decided to get the tres leches cake and deep fried ice cream. Both were delicious as well. The deep fried ice cream had layers of pastry or something inside of it and it paired great with the ice cream. For drinks we had a mocktail and an old fashion. Total for everything was around $220. Some people might not want to spend this much but I was expecting this from a high end restaurant so I was not surprised or disappointed. I've been to Javier's in Century City many times and love the food and vibe, so I was excited to try the Pasadena location. When you walk in, it feels more like a club than a traditional restaurant. It's energetic and very crowded, with light house music in the background. I arrived on time for my reservation but was still asked to wait off to the side and told I would get a text when my table was ready, which was frustrating. If you have a reservation, you expect to be seated close to that time. The restaurant is extremely busy, so you often have to squeeze past people, and it can be hard to have a conversation because of the noise. That said, the food and drinks were excellent. Everything we ordered tasted high quality. The Javier's margarita is hands down the best margarita I've ever had. I usually order the Trio de Enchiladas del Mar, but this time I went with the steak fajitas and they were incredibly tender and full of flavor. Our waitress was also wonderful and very attentive. If not for the wait at the door, this would easily be a five star experience. Just know that Javier's is a popular LA staple, so you will see plenty of photo takers and influencers. Location is great, tucked away from Colorado boulevard where El Forniao was previously located. Unfortunately, and this has been the same experience I've had at multiple Javier restaurants (including DTLA and Newport), the food was average / mediocre. That alone wouldn't be an issue, but paying criminally high prices for mediocre food is. Yes many popular spots in the LA area including DTLA have similar prices (Girl and the Goat, Bestia), but again, those places actually have good food so you don't leave feeling like you were robbed. If you come here, stay for the vibes and grab a drink. Maybe get an appetizer or two to justify occupying a spot. If you're coming to this restaurant to grab great Mexican food, you'll be sorely disappointed. In LA, there are countless better options with much better food for a much cheaper price. Summary of my most recent dine-in experience : The chips were a bit stale and not made in house (like South of Nicks in Laguna), the tacos were cold and the shells were stale ... the Pollo Chipotle was actually decent. I noticed all the Black guests were seated in the back as well, which felt racist. When I addressed it, she became defensive and dismissive. Our waiter was great. My girlfriends and I were very excited to try Javier's, some drove from LA, myself and a few others came from the Inland Empire (took us almost an hour). We had a reservation for a Saturday at 6:30, we arrived 15 min early and were told that due to the high volume of customers, we needed to wait 30-45min could be longer- and that was with a reservation. Since we drove a long way, we decided to wait. A little after 7pm went back for an update only to be informed that unfortunately nothing has changed it would be another 30-45min. By that time all of us were starving and couldn't wait any longer and found another spot that could accommodate us within 15min. I understand this location is fairly new but I also know this is a well known establishment and it is bringing their reputation down. Very unprofessional and there needs to be some accountability with management. Whoever is making these reservations is obviously not properly trained. read more

First off, it's like hunger games trying to get a reservation off OpenTable. After a few days of trying, my friend was able to get a 6:30pm slot Friday night. Checked in at 6:25pm and was told we will get a text when table is ready. We were prepared to wait awhile since thats what recent reviews said. So we went to another bar nearby since the bar inside was HELLA PACKED. Table was ready after 25 minutes after check in. We were seated in the back inclosed patio area, which I have to say is amazing. Felt like I was at a Vegas club with trees. Plus it was A LOT more intimate and less loud compare to the front half of the place. The difference is day and night. Front being very packed/loud, could barely hear what my friend said when we were on our way back from the restroom. Now for the drinks & food: --Guayaba Margarita: delicious! My fav out of the drinks --Pina Margarita: refreshing w/pineapple bits, be careful, friend almost choked swallowing a big chunk :0 --Chips & Salsa: refillable chips & salsa was good with a kick --Guacamole: let down... no flavor so had to ask for some salt to mix it in --Esquites: pretty good & flavorful -- Short Ribs: SALTY AS HELL, ribs were very tender but that salty sauce was too much. It didn't help that the rice was also salty. Could not finish, that dish was saltier than the Destino plot --Shrimp Enchiladas: shrimp was okay but it was also salty, not as bad as short ribs but salty regardless --Arracherra: 1st time, about to cut in but waiter came back quick & said sorry this one is over cooked so took it back. 2nd time, the steak was well done. 3rd time came out just right, but it came at the end of our meal. The big potato fries were also not crispy. Just a big chunk of a cooked potato --Carne Tampiquena: The best entree we had for the night. That NY steak came out just right & was so flavorful As for service, it was great. They kept checking in and refilling our chips/water. The thing that sucks was that we felt rushed to leave ASAP. We get a 2 hour dinning time but we barely got to enjoy our time. We finished eating around the 1 hour ish mark, still got that steak dish that came out late to finish but they kept coming over to clear a dish/utensil here, some cups there, wipe the table that looked dirty. Javier's - Pasadena Friday, December 12 | 7:00 PM reservation Let me start by saying: Javier's is beautiful. Lavish, upscale, very "special occasion" vibes. Unfortunately, the actual experience felt more like a masterclass in how to test a group's patience while nickel-and-diming them into submission. We had a 7:00 PM reservation for 12, which turned into 13 people (clearly a criminal offense). We were told it would be about a 20-minute wait to accommodate the extra guest. Totally reasonable--or so we thought. After an hour and fifteen minutes of patiently waiting outside, I finally went in to speak with the hostess, who made it very clear that our one additional human being was a massive inconvenience and that they were "waiting for space to open up." I explained that an hour and fifteen minutes was absolutely WILD, and that my patience had officially clocked out. Miraculously, about 10 minutes later, we were seated... at a table with 12 chairs. Yes. After all that waiting to "fit one more person," they did not, in fact, fit one more person. We grabbed a chair ourselves and brought it in. Problem solved--apparently one that required 75 minutes of advanced problem-solving from the host stand. While waiting outside for an hour and a half, I also witnessed three separate people fall on the last step leading into the restaurant. Not one. Not two. Three. Entertaining? Sure. Concerning? Also yes. Those poor girls definitely woke up Saturday with bruises and regrets. Once seated, the wait staff was actually great--very informative about menu items and flavor profiles, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the pricing situation was... confusing at best. * La Tablita is listed at $120 online, $125 on the menu, yet somehow we were charged $160 per plate. * Guacamole and chips were brought out--four bowls, to be exact. No one ordered them. Turns out, They were $20 each, not complimentary. That's $80 of guacamole we didn't ask for. * Since when does rice and beans cost $7 EACH as an add-on? When you see $55 enchiladas, it's reasonable to assume rice and beans come with them. Apparently not. And then--the grand finale. We brought a birthday cake. We were charged a refrigeration fee and a $3 per slice cutting fee. When we said no thank you, we're more than capable of cutting our own cake, we were told that was against policy. My dad responded perfectly: You trust us to cut our own meat, but not our own cake? Had we been told upfront about the cake fees, we would have reconsidered bringing one. Charging around $50 to store and serve a cake we brought ourselves is the definition of insanity Between: * the hour and a half wait, * the mystery price increases, * the unauthorized guacamole, * the extra charges on extra charges, and * the noise level so loud I had a sore throat the next day from screaming across the table ...I can confidently say I won't be back. After waiting the time, we asked for an update and they said it would be another 20 minutes max. It didn't seem like this was the first time they've been in this situation, as they were very nonchalant and unapologetic about it. The first visit was for my daughter's birthday, and everything including the food, drinks, and ambiance was absolutely wonderful, which made me excited to come back. Unfortunately, my most recent experience didn't live up to that first visit. While the ambiance was still nice, the food fell short. My husband and I ordered the ribeye plate and requested it be cooked medium, but it came out rare. When I brought this to the host's attention, her response was disappointing. She simply said we should have mentioned it earlier and offered to have it recooked. We will certainly go back because we had a great time and enjoyed our food a lot. We had reservations and when walking in there was a pile of umbrellas in garbage bins, without a way to track who's is who's. An employee was talking to the hostesses with her back towards the entrance so we waited a few minutes to check in. Hostesses checked us in and sat us quickly. There was no discussion of coats or coat check which was surprising given the level of ambiance projected. Instead we had our wet jackets sit on the seating bench next to us the whole meal, so by the end my pants were wet. Chips and salsa were pretty good, above average and these were refilled. Staff was attentive for water refills and chips refills. The bussing was not fine dining type service but not bad. Stacking a bunch of plates stuck out considering the fine dining atmosphere intended by the decor and price point. Our waiter was awkward and felt inexperienced but did concisely summarize daily specials and made a few recommendations. Zero eye contact and seemed more focused on a strict script. Food was fine, not stand out. The rice was incredibly bland but my whole party liked the beans and guacamole. Food did come out quickly and portions were good. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this place for more than cocktails and chips and salsa. It is not worth waiting in line for. It is a pretty space but would benefit from being smaller. Javier's in Pasadena just opened about a month ago, and it's a great addition to One Colorado. I'd been to the Century City location before and really liked the vibe and food, so I was excited to try this one. We made a reservation about three days in advance -- lots of availability and very easy to book online. When we arrived, we checked in with the hostess and were seated within about 5-10 minutes, even though the restaurant was busy and lively. Parking in Old Town is definitely the biggest downside. Javier's doesn't validate, and the closest paid lots run about $12. You can park a little farther away at the De Lacey or Fair Oaks structures (some free time, then paid), or try street parking, but on a Saturday afternoon it's tough to find anything nearby. We were a party of five and were first seated at a large table that felt a little too spread out, but the staff happily moved us to one of their big booths, which was much more comfortable. Service was excellent the entire time. We had a main server plus a couple of runners who checked on us frequently -- drinks refilled, plates cleared quickly, and nothing sat on the table for long. I'd read a few reviews mentioning slow service, but that was not our experience at all. We ordered all appetizers and cocktails for a light afternoon meal: empanadas, ahi ceviche, and queso fundido with corn tortillas. Everything came out quickly and tasted great -- plenty of food for five adults who had already eaten earlier in the day. The food was definitely a highlight. Where Javier's missed the mark for us was the cocktails. Between the spicy margarita, skinny margarita, cucumber margarita, and a dirty martini, none of the drinks were particularly impressive, especially at $20-$25 each. The spicy margarita tasted like it was made with a sweet jalapeño syrup, and the skinny margarita tasted like a basic mix. They also didn't feel very strong. On the other hand, the wine was excellent -- they even let my friend sample a few options before choosing, and the pours were generous. Next time, I'll skip the cocktails and go straight for wine. After we finished, we received the check quickly, and the staff was kind enough to clear and wipe the table before taking a group photo for us -- such a thoughtful touch. The restaurant itself is beautiful, big, and very on-brand if you've been to other Javier's locations. There's tons of seating, so I may even try walking in next time instead of reserving. Overall: great food, outstanding service, beautiful space, cocktails not worth the price -- but the experience itself was very positive. i would first like to say is WOW, ABSOLUTE BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT. when you step inside Javier's the first thing you notice is the atmosphere & the ambiance. the interior design is absolutely stunninnngggggg! i went to try Javier's on valentines weekend for a galentines night & we truly enjoyed our time here. i called & made reservations a day before & the lady got us resvered quickly! when we both walked in, we were immediately greeted at the front & was asked for our name.i noticed right in the middle of the restaurant was the bar. the bar was so beautiful. i love the way they designed the bar. my friend & i were seated & the waiter greeted us immediately. he was soo kind, i wish i got his name. he was sooo attentive & made sure our waters were always full. the other men who brought our food over were soo kind as well!! very respectful people!! Javier's is a Mexican theme styles restaurant & their menu did had some intriguing Mexican food to try..a bit pricey though. however, my friend & i actually ordered the Arrachera because we both were craving steak. yes, i know so random to order a steak when the menu is mexican style. lol. the wait for the food wasn't that long at all! while you wait they give you chips & salsa. the chips were warm & fresh, the salsa was good w/ a nice touch of spice! in the photo you can see our steak, fries, and a side of refritos. i first want to say that the plating was really my favorite part, lol. the way they stacked the fries like a Jenga set was so funny to me. it was the first thing i thought of.. kinda wish they stacked it up a bit more. the fries were really good. love thick fries. they have ketchup as your dipping sauce for your fries which was good. the refritos was good, no complaints. now let's talk about the star of the plate, the main course. by the look of the eyes, it looks delicious & which it was however, it was very chewy meat. it was really hard for my knife to even cut through the meat. it was also a bit annoying to chew, wasn't pleasing to eat in a way. my friend felt the same about her steak as well. it's so sad because everything else on the table was sooo good!! that is the only reason why i gave a 4 star instead of a 5 star. we both ended up taking our steak up & one thing i do want to mention is that i appreciate them packing our order together for us. it's so nice! after we were done eating we went to go check in their bathroom & omg it is sooo beautiful! they have a lady who works in the bathroom to make sure it stays clean and offers cleaned napniks after you have washed your hands. she is so cute! coming to Javier's was truly an experience. The waiters, the atmosphere and the ambiance was 10/10 our food was 8.9/10 only due to our steak. read more

This is the newest location for Javier's, a high end and very popular Mexican restaurant, now in Old Town Pasadena. Located in the One Colorado plaza , parking at 2 nearby lots and street parking if you can find it, good luck. The space itself is modern and minimalist with a very open floor plan. There is a large central bar and a lot of effort went into giving this place very classy vibes. We were seated promptly when we arrived and service was excellent. The salsa that served with the complimentary chips was tasty, very savory and I would buy it if they bottled it. We started with some guacamole, very creamy and rich with some queso fresco mixed in, maximal effort for sure in its making. The shrimp enchiladas with tomatillo sauce was the favorite, great sauce, no notes. Shrimp tacos were also very good, the shrimp were very fresh and well cooked. The flan for dessert was top notch, rivals any restaurant. The rice was savory and rich but everything was a la carte, so extra for rice and/or beans. Value wise the food was a bit too pricey, but I know I am also paying for the atmosphere. The place is also too noisy at least for me but that may be part of the appeal, a celebratory space. The food is good enough that I am going to return so I can sample other items on the menu. 4 stars read more

Brand new Javier's in Pasadena. Beautiful space, great vibes, and solid staff. They usually won't seat you until your entire party arrives, but they were kind enough to seat us early (thank you kind souls). Parking is... a journey. No validation (major eye roll), but valet is available if you're feeling fancy or tired. Now, the wait. The food took about an hour to come out. Luckily I was with my besties, so the vibes were strong and the guava margarita absolutely carried the night, a must. Honestly, order two and settle in. The real kicker? Our food was boxed to go faster than it was brought to the table. Efficiency unlocked... just not in the order you'd expect. Food is mid, service is ok, ambience is ok too but nothing special. If you have a reservation, be prepared to wait at least an hour on the weekend. I was there for a bday but I honestly don't understand why people want to come here. Price definitely doesn't match the quality of food. read more

What an amazing experience we had tonight. Juan and his team made dinner very enjoyable and comfortable. The interior decorations are just perfect with an awesome outdoor patio. You feel like you are on vacation and the energy is just incredible. Our waiter Carlos and his team provided exceptional service and Juan had provided some great suggestions that we went with.
