I had been wanting to check this place out, and the interior did not disappoint; absolutely beautiful space with a great vibe. It was packed, which speaks to its popularity, but if you're seated closer to the bar, be prepared for a pretty high noise level. On the plus side, they have plenty of tables and booths that can easily accommodate larger parties. Service: Very attentive from start to finish. Shoutout to all the servers who helped our table and especially Xayla for bringing such high energy all night. Parking: Valet is available, plus nearby parking structures and some street parking, which makes it manageable despite the busy location. Food: The house salad was delicious. I tried the tacos suaves. I'd definitely recommend the beef. The chicken was a bit dry. Adding a shrimp option would be a great addition to the menu. I had heard about Javier's over the years so was excited when they opened up one in Pasadena in the old Il Fornaio space. Additionally, a Mexican friend of mine thought I would like it. I was surprised the Yelp reviews weren't better but still checked them out for a last minute bday lunch spot. The interior is very pretty and sophisticated. Complimentary chips and salsa are quite good, with the salsa having a little kick which I love. We both got cocktails (black samba for me at $25 - a little pricey) which we both really enjoyed. My friend got the guava margarita. We both also got salads - chopped salad with shrimp for me and my friend got the salmon salad. Both were very good. Such a great location! They have valet or You can do self parking on meter or close by parking lots. The location was so stunning, loved the whole ambiance and space. The service here is excellent as well, attentiveness and friendly staff. The food was absolutely amazing, we tried the white fish crudo and ahi crudo which was some of the best never had. So fresh and the fish was such high quality. The aguachile was amazing too and super fresh with a nice kick of spice. The tablita Andre was a great shared entrée great for a couple of people, the skirt steak was some of the best beef on the menu, cooked perfectly and seasoned so well. The carnitas was some of the best I ever had!!! Deserts were amazing too especially the guava cheesecake. Everything was so fresh and delicious, place is on the pricier side but worth it! Over the last few years, I have frequented the Century City locations. Now there is one locally in Pasadena. The quality of the salsa has changed. The biggest change is the inconsistency in their food. For example tonight: the salsa was bland, one was salty, and when we asked for another one then it was close to what we remembered (need to be spicier). Elevated Mexican food is a tough task to accomplish. More often than not if you want a good margarita and enchiladas, a home style cantina with homemade/fresh ingredients does the job. Javier's in Vegas was a much better experience than Pasadena. Javier's Pasadena is LOUD. So loud, you're walking out with a sore throat, especially if you're seated in the dining area with low ceilings. They expanded into a covered outdoor terrace with higher ceilings but it still requires you to yell at the company next to you and not out of frustration lol. The food is underwhelming. There's no reason to order crab, lobster and shrimp enchiladas but I did just to try. Def not worth $50. The service was very attentive and friendly. No complaints there read more

Before eating lunch here, I was concerned about their average rating of 2.8 stars. After finishing my meal, I think a 2.8 is kind of harsh in my opinion. It's probably closer to a 3.5 for me. Yes, the food is overpriced and charging $7 for rice and a separate $7 for beans is diabolical. Like what other reviewers have said, there are so many more authentic and affordable Mexican restaurants in LA that you can go to. BUT what this restaurant did deliver on were the elevated interior design choices, location, and the vibes. The servers were nice and we didn't run into any issues with billing. The food did take forever to get to the table after ordering though so don't come here if you're in a time crunch. I thought the food was going to taste worse than it did but I was content with the Enchiladas Poblanas that I ordered. Were they the best enchiladas I've ever had? No, but the flavors were still good. Complimentary chips came out fresh with salsa. We lounged here for a while after we finished eating and I'm glad that the servers didn't try to push us out. For parking, they offer valet but there are two Pasadena public parking lots close by. I parked at the Schoolhouse Garage at 33 E Green St and it only took me 2 to 3 min to walk to the restaurant. EV charging is available for a small fee on the B1 level using the PowerFlex app. There's also the other public parking lot on De Lacey but that one is tighter and more difficult to maneuver if you have a large car. read more

This was my first time at Javier's ! There are parking lots around but not free. Once we walked in, we were amazed ! The place is stunning like we were at a resort In Mexico. We got the queso fundido to start which was super good but pretty stringy so it was kind of hard to get onto chips and the tortillas. She knew the menu well, asked all the right questions, and was incredibly attentive throughout the evening. Our Dinner and drinks were delicious! I was taken to this restaurant for a birthday dinner by two friends. The space is beautiful, but the experience felt rushed from the moment we arrived -- we were told we only had two hours from when we sat, which isn't a warm welcome. The music was loud and got louder over the course of our 2 hr visit, making conversation difficult; several times three of us had to say, "I'm sorry, what?" Service felt impatient. They removed a friend's plate and utensils even though she still needed her fork to eat from another plate. They also cleared my nearly finished cocktail (about an inch left) while we were still at the table. Staff repeatedly checked our table as if eager to move us along; while I was still finishing my meal, the server asked what we wanted for dessert. I'm very disappointed and would not return or recommend this place. The food was average. Especially for the price of this restaurant to be pushed out the way we were and to have just OK food with the bad service really did not settle well. I dine out usually twice a week and this is truly one of the worst experiences I've had in years! I might also mention that somebody that worked there, I don't know if it's a manager or hostess but she came by ask us how everything was, she asked as she was walking by, she didn't even let us answer she had already passed the table. First I would like to say Please please please decide for yourselves how a particular restaurant was to your liking or not. As it relates to Javier's, I found it a wonderful, energized and completely satisfying experience. My advice is to disregard those extremely negative reviews that I see posted. The restaurant recently opened and as it was during the holidays and brand new, of course there will be slight learning curve and yes also very busy as there is an excitement of this location opening in Pasadena. The restaurant is beautiful, ample booth seating and foliage throughout. Spied a couple of bars, the largest being directly in the center ( maybe the other was decorative, have to go back to be certain. Although busy I found the wait staff as well as the hosts extremely pleasant and did their best to be accommodating. Lively music played throughout the restaurant and one thing I did wish, was that there could be a live band and even a small dance floor. The song selection made you want to get up and Salsa. The food was good in my opinion. I kept it basic; Mole Enchiladas, Shrimp Enchiladas, Salmon as well as a couple of salads. No complaints at all. Fresh, not overcooked and of course tasty. The food was mid at best but what made this experience truly atrocious was the GM Maite and their incredibly rude/disrespectful service. Our reservations were at 9, they seated us at 9:55. We patiently waited but did ask for updates and when we did, the very rude woman at the front responded "3 of you have asked already, just wait give us a second" in a VERY rude, dismissive, and condescending tone. One member of our party ordered a well done steak and it came raw, she took two bites and sent it back and asked to remove it off the tab. The manager Maite came to our table, told her that she ate half the steak when she didn't, said that she should have notified the restaurant sooner, and she didn't remove the plate off the tab as a courtesy. Mind you the bill was $1,200+. I have never experienced such service at what's supposed to be a top tier luxury restaurant. I've never encountered a manager so inept with zero class and decorum. Went for dinner without a reservation on a Wednesday night and was seated right away. Menu was a bit pricy with entrees ranging from $38-120. I got $38 tacos. Despite the note on the menu saying that they cannot make any substitutions or changes, I was able to get my tacos without green sauce. A side of 1/2 rice and 1/2 beans was $7 extra. BF got the steak fajitas. Everything is presented well. The music was a bit loud and it was difficult to hear someone across the booth. Food was very good. I tasted the meat from the fajitas to compare it to my steak from my tacos... his was tastier as the fajita steak was tender and seasoned. My tacos were really good though and THREE big tacos were filling for sure. We were tempted to order dessert because they looked great in the Yelp pictures, but at $16-$22 each, decided we'd save it for a return visit. The ambiance was really cool. See my photos. Came to Javier's Pasadena on Valentine's Day and the place was packed! They let us know ahead of time that food might take a little longer because of how busy it was, but honestly they were pretty good with timing We started with the ceviche, guacamole, and taquitos. The ceviche was nice and refreshing with great flavor. The guacamole tasted super fresh and delicious -- and the chips seemed freshly fried, which made it even better. The taquitos were one of my favorites! The sauce on top was so good and really brought everything together. For mains, we ordered the enchiladas, tacos, and arrachera. The enchiladas were good, but not necessarily a standout for me. The tacos had great portions, flavorful meat, and really good salsa. My absolute favorite was the arrachera -- the prime skirt steak was cooked perfectly, super tender, and seasoned really well. The papas fritas were okay -- a little too thick for my liking and some pieces seemed slightly undercooked. The refried beans were good though. Drinks were solid too! I had a mango margarita and really enjoyed it Overall, great experience especially on such a busy night. Arrive to Javier's without a reservation, but we found two seats at the back bar! The hostess was very nice and transparent and reminded us that they are booked for days on reservations, but we could watch for an opening at either bar. My wife and I proceeded to the back bar and sat down and was immediately greeted by Sam, the bartender! This gentleman gives exceptional service! You can truly tell that he has a sincere and genuine nature to want to create experiences and relationships with customers, something you do not see as often. My wife got the steak salad and I got the filet mignon and lobster tail and both were cooked to perfection! She got a cucumber spicy margarita and I got the strawberry margarita, and WOW, they were STRONG! Holy guacamole! Lmao! This restaurant is absolutely breathtaking! The aesthetics on the inside is a masterpiece only designed by the best. The ambience, food, and most notably the service is why we will be returning! Thanks Sam and Javier's! As mentioned numerous times, the vibe and decor is nice. Energy is there, especially for Pasadena which is normally a sleepy town. Location is great, tucked away from Colorado boulevard where El Forniao was previously located. Unfortunately, and this has been the same experience I've had at multiple Javier restaurants (including DTLA and Newport), the food was average / mediocre. That alone wouldn't be an issue, but paying criminally high prices for mediocre food is. Yes many popular spots in the LA area including DTLA have similar prices (Girl and the Goat, Bestia), but again, those places actually have good food so you don't leave feeling like you were robbed. If you come here, stay for the vibes and grab a drink. Maybe get an appetizer or two to justify occupying a spot. If you're coming to this restaurant to grab great Mexican food, you'll be sorely disappointed. In LA, there are countless better options with much better food for a much cheaper price. Summary of my most recent dine-in experience : The chips were a bit stale and not made in house (like South of Nicks in Laguna), the tacos were cold and the shells were stale ... the Pollo Chipotle was actually decent. Don't waste money on enchiladas or fajitas you make yourself at this price point. read more

First off, it's like hunger games trying to get a reservation off OpenTable. After a few days of trying, my friend was able to get a 6:30pm slot Friday night. Checked in at 6:25pm and was told we will get a text when table is ready. We were prepared to wait awhile since thats what recent reviews said. Could not finish, that dish was saltier than the Destino plot --Shrimp Enchiladas: shrimp was okay but it was also salty, not as bad as short ribs but salty regardless --Arracherra: 1st time, about to cut in but waiter came back quick & said sorry this one is over cooked so took it back. 2nd time, the steak was well done. 3rd time came out just right, but it came at the end of our meal. The big potato fries were also not crispy. Just a big chunk of a cooked potato --Carne Tampiquena: The best entree we had for the night. That NY steak came out just right & was so flavorful As for service, it was great. They kept checking in and refilling our chips/water. The thing that sucks was that we felt rushed to leave ASAP. We get a 2 hour dinning time but we barely got to enjoy our time. We finished eating around the 1 hour ish mark, still got that steak dish that came out late to finish but they kept coming over to clear a dish/utensil here, some cups there, wipe the table that looked dirty. This was my second and last time at Javier's in Pasadena. The first time we came, we had a reservation and still ended up waiting over an hour past our reserved time before being seated. We decided to give them a second chance, thinking maybe it was just a bad night. Unfortunately, it was even worse this time. We had an 8:30 PM reservation and I even paid the required deposit online. Despite that, we were not seated until 9:15 PM. When I brought up the issue, the young lady at the front desk couldn't have cared less. Her attitude was basically, "That's just how it is here." I've been to the Century City and Newport Beach locations multiple times and never experienced anything close to this. The food is good and the service from the servers is excellent, but none of that makes up for completely disregarding reservation times and acting like customers should simply accept it. If reservations consistently run 45 minutes to an hour behind, then what's the point of making one? Make your own decision, but this was my last visit to the Pasadena location. read more

We ate at the Pasadena Javiers restaurant last Wednesday early evening with some friends and had a delightful experience. All of the staff were very friendly and attentive from the very beginning. The restaurant itself is very beautiful. We live in Pasadena and had been to the previous restaurant at that location Il Fornaio many times. We were so disappointed that it was closing. However, the transformation to Javiers is incredible. Absolutely stunning. We sat at a booth facing a small fountain. I would give it an A++ for ambience. We started with the house margaritas the Javiers. Two with reposado and two with Blanco tequila. I thought they were very good and that they didn't taste light on tequila at all. We usually go for fancy margaritas but wanted to get a starting point. Next time we will try one of the specialties. We all gravitated towards the enchiladas. My husband got a lobster shrimp enchilada. I had the chicken enchiladas, one mole one green sauce. Both our friends had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. Everybody was very happy with their food. They brought chips and salsa when we first sat down. I thought the salsa had a nice bite. My husband who likes a lot of heat, ordered some habanero salsa on the side that he said was delicious exactly what he wanted. Warning this cost you a couple dollars extra. My husband also had the Javiers salad it was very fresh and tasteful. The serving are generous and we brought home the leftovers. We will definitely be going back . If you don't know your way around Pasadena then parking alone is gonna get you upset at this location but if you do know where to park and what alleys to take to get here then it will be easy and no hassle at all to take a quick 4min walk from the parking structure down the street. Javier's - Pasadena Friday, December 12 | 7:00 PM reservation Let me start by saying: Javier's is beautiful. Lavish, upscale, very "special occasion" vibes. Unfortunately, the actual experience felt more like a masterclass in how to test a group's patience while nickel-and-diming them into submission. We had a 7:00 PM reservation for 12, which turned into 13 people (clearly a criminal offense). We were told it would be about a 20-minute wait to accommodate the extra guest. Totally reasonable--or so we thought. After an hour and fifteen minutes of patiently waiting outside, I finally went in to speak with the hostess, who made it very clear that our one additional human being was a massive inconvenience and that they were "waiting for space to open up." I explained that an hour and fifteen minutes was absolutely WILD, and that my patience had officially clocked out. Miraculously, about 10 minutes later, we were seated... at a table with 12 chairs. Yes. After all that waiting to "fit one more person," they did not, in fact, fit one more person. We grabbed a chair ourselves and brought it in. Problem solved--apparently one that required 75 minutes of advanced problem-solving from the host stand. While waiting outside for an hour and a half, I also witnessed three separate people fall on the last step leading into the restaurant. Not one. Not two. Three. Entertaining? Sure. Concerning? Also yes. Those poor girls definitely woke up Saturday with bruises and regrets. Once seated, the wait staff was actually great--very informative about menu items and flavor profiles, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the pricing situation was... confusing at best. * La Tablita is listed at $120 online, $125 on the menu, yet somehow we were charged $160 per plate. * Guacamole and chips were brought out--four bowls, to be exact. No one ordered them. Turns out, They were $20 each, not complimentary. That's $80 of guacamole we didn't ask for. * Since when does rice and beans cost $7 EACH as an add-on? When you see $55 enchiladas, it's reasonable to assume rice and beans come with them. Apparently not. And then--the grand finale. We brought a birthday cake. We were charged a refrigeration fee and a $3 per slice cutting fee. When we said no thank you, we're more than capable of cutting our own cake, we were told that was against policy. My dad responded perfectly: You trust us to cut our own meat, but not our own cake? Had we been told upfront about the cake fees, we would have reconsidered bringing one. I think the best thing about this place is the decor. It's as if I entered a new country and LOVED IT! IT was magical, beautiful, the detail was flawless. How will they keep up with this cream/white seats over the years? I do not know but I LOVED IT! The music was a bit loud and we had to ask the manager to turn it down. We made reservations a couple weeks in advance. The place itself is very nice the decor is modern and set up flows. I think if I return I'll sit at the bar and it be a drinks and appetizers not dinner. Me and my friend shared the ceviche trio and Javier's salad. The salad was my favorite it was simple yet tasty. The ceviche trio was ok. The ahi was my favorite the shrimp was very lime forward and tart. Other friends ordered the short ribs, chicken enchiladas and shrimp enchiladas. The feedback for the short ribs was underwhelming and both friends liked their enchiladas. I feel like the restaurant is more of a place for an upbeat vibe for drinks verses dinner due to the quality of the food for the price.
