First, the sauce is on point very flavorful, the rip tips for a healthy portion (I happen to like well done meat so it was to my taste) the potato salad not really a fan of it tasted too commercial for me next time (yes there will be a next time) I will just get double beans. I went here about 20 years ago when I worked in Torrance. I forgot about until I startted yelping and it jogged my memory. I had to take my wife so off we went tonight into the outer edges of Gardena. The place is pretty much the way I remember it with the exception of the bullet proof glass. We had the large pork rib dinner and the rib tips. It was DELICIOUS. The sauce was tangy and the meat was moist and tender. The baked beans and cole slaw were excellent. A place that gives you another reason to love pork! I came here after doing a mini food crawl at Five Guys. We got there fairly late at around 8:30PM. We missed the place twice because of the complicated street that only lets you turn in one certain direction. After 2 UTURNS, alas, we arrived! It basically is a small shack and we opened the front door and was greeted by a bullet proof glass. There were handwritten signs all over the place stating, the specials and certain rules and policies they have with ordering. FOOD: We decided to get the dinner combo plate with the Pork Shoulder and rib tips with coleslaw and baked beans and came with an order of wonderbread. TASTE: I liked the rib tips myself. Something about the chewy yet flaky taste just made my mouth water. The pork shoulder was good and tender but it was something about the rib tips that just gave a kick to my taste buds. I'm not a big fan of bbq sauce, but their bbq sauce wasn't too tangy, but more on the sweet side which really complemented the coleslaw and wonderbread. YES they serve WONDERBREAD. How much more American can you get? I asked the counter lady what was the most popular side dish and she said baked beans so thats what we chose. BUMMER: My brother said he saw the coleslaw come from a carton which was a bit of a bummer but thats ok I guess. It still tasted pretty good. I guess we were hoping on it being authentic and home made. I thought the service was good. She was very cordial and even said sorry about the wait (even though there really was only one person infront of us). The sodas come in a can here so if you are extra thirsty, you might wanna stop by somewhere and get a large drink. =) I can't wait to come back and finally try the Mac' n Cheese. Jay Bee's House of Fine Bar-B-Que is a fantastic little joint that offers great food for reasonable prices, and when I mean little I really mean little. If you're not paying attention you'll most likely pass by this golden gem. But once you find Jay Bee's you'll wonder why you've never heard about this place, unless you're a fan of triple D (Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives). On my visit to Jay Bee's I ordered the pork shoulder, rib tips and the shredded beef sandwich. All three entrees were delicious, and for $20 I was fully satisfied. Of the three entrees I would have to recommend the pork shoulder. The pork shoulder was delicate and tender, and it's all smothered in the wonderful bbq sauce. I would also recommend ordering the combo meal; you get your choice of 2 meats and 2 sides for about $13. I tried Jay Bee's for the first time after bookmarking it a couple years ago when it was on Triple D. My coworkers and I went today for lunch about 12:30 and there were 3 of the 5 picnic tables taken, and no line when we ordered. I went with the pulled pork sandwich which comes with coleslaw and your choice of mild, med, hot, or extra hot bbq sauce. I opted for the med sauce which still had a good kick to it. If you have any kind of issue with spicy foods, I would recommend going mild only! The serve the pulled pork sandwich traditionally, with coleslaw inside, and it was messy in a good way. The pork was pretty tender, and you got some of the outside edges of the shoulder which were flavorful and had a thick smoke ring to them. The lady behind the counter was super friendly, even if she did profess herself as a Giants fan when I came in wearing a Dodgers shirt. :-) One of my coworkers got the rib plate with potato salad and beans, and it all looked very good. They have canned sodas, Arizona iced tea and bottled water to drink. This location is so unique, it is almost a median, being on a triangle shaped piece of land between two streets that come together at a point, but the food was great, and a good value. This place used to be better but the food isn't as good. The portions used to be bigger and the meat used to not be as fatty. I used to get a sliced beef sandwich and I could barely hold it but now there's not enough meat and sauce. The greens are terrible and almost taste like dirt. The meat still has a good smoke flavor and I love the BBQ sauce flavor but I don't come here often. The customer service has been consistently bad. I thought it was time to do a review after three visits to Jay Bee's. I've tried their rib tips dinner, chopped pork shoulder and the BBQ beef sandwiches. They were all served with their hot BBQ sauce. Cole slaw and beans are the two sides I've tried. I'd give Jay Bee's 2 stars overall: 3 stars for the food 1 stars for the service, specifically the brusqueness of the owner who takes your order. She makes you feel like you're bothering her dining there. If you're short on time, it might not be a good idea for lunch. My first two times I visited, I received my food in about 10 minutes. The third time, I ordered the same items as before and it took 30 minutes. I sat with some guys at a bench and it took them 45 minutes for their food to be ready. Their hour lunch was almost over, but didn't want to make a stink with the owner about how long they were waiting out of fear she'd bite their heads off. read more

Hole-in-the-wall: awesome Location: questionable Memphis-style BBQ: hit & miss I think this place has been hyped up too much and considering how there aren't a lot of BBQ spots around this area, it gets magnified. Of course being on Guy Fieri's only made the hype much worse. It's a decent spot to grab a quick lunch or a family style dinner for dinner if you work near there, but it's not a place that I would just drive there for. It's located in an industrial neighborhood between Compton and Gardena (a little ghetto for some people's preference) and once you drive up to it you'll see that it's a hole-in-the-wall and it really gives you a sort of "authentic feel" to it. As for the food, the pork shoulder sandwiches were pretty good. Large sandwich for a little over 5 bucks. Between two buns you get a good amount of pork shoulder, slaw, and doused in your choice of BBQ sauce. Their "hot" isn't really that hot at all so if you like spicy food you can try their "extra-hot." The ribs are hit & miss. I've had them on days where they were extremely tender while a little tough sometimes. I do gotta admit I like their sauce a lot. You can buy it to take home at Jay Bee's but to be honest there are a lot of other sauces out there that can match up. Their sides were whatevers. The typical sides, such as potato salad, mac&cheese, beans, cole slaw, weren't anything special. Tasted like the ones I could've got at Vons or something. Probably would need a little bit of honey-whipped butter for the cornbread since it could be a little dry. The BBQ spaghetti.. is an interesting concept BUT too much sauce and they could've done a whole lot more with it. It's a good spot to grab lunch and just to experience Memphis BBQ if you haven't before since it is a sister location of the Neely's family Interstate in Memphis. read more

Everything was delicious: beans perfect balance of sweet and tangy, slaw was vinegar style, and collards were made with bacon, YUM. Parking is tricky, the "lot" can only accommodate a handful of cars - so carefully resort to street parking if possible. It is definitely Memphis-style bbq which is all about the sauce. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was excellent. The meat was tender and they put plently of sauce on it. Be prepared to get a little messy when you eat here because they DO love their sauce! :) (I had to eat my sandwich with a fork, haha) I also see why it was featured on Triple D. It is definitely a dive spot. It's SUPER small and there's only room for about 5 people to stand inside in line. The only seating is on picnic tables outside under the awning. Have you ever sworn not to go to a business again because of bad food or bad service... and then return after years later just to see if you were wrong? Most times you're not. This place is the worst of the worst. I won't doubt myself again. The African American guy I think who calls himself running the place was on the phone the whole time I was ordering. I visited your establishment today, the signage for your establishment states that you open at 11am. I was fifth in line at 1050 and at 1115, you were still not open. My coworker called and jist of the answer was "we open when we open". I finally placed my order at 1120 and the front desk lady has a horrible demeanor. Her attitude leaves little to be desired and my boss refuses to even patron there ever again because of the front desk lady with red glasses. All I ordered were 4 sides and I did not receive my order until 1200. To top it off my order was incorrect and the macaroni salad that I did not order tasted horribly. The experience that left a bad taste with my boss was when the same woman gave him a smart ass response. My boss asked what type of sauce comes on the ribs and she proceeded to answer " BBQ COMES WITH BBQ SAUCE, ITS BBQ BABY" with such disdain.
