This place is great for vegetarians! I really love their selection of appetizers here. The prices are extremely inexpensive so you can order multiple dishes without breaking the bank. I always get the shev puri which is really good with their tamarind chutney. Their plain dosa is pretty foolproof choice too as well as their idli. I've also sampled quite a few of their pedas and barfis from the sweets bar and they are great. Great pistachio barfi if you're looking for sweets on the go. The service is also very fast so you can expect to get your food within 5-10 minutes. The restaurant's appearance is pretty modern compared to most Indian eateries in Artesia. No tacky tapestries or anything like that...great choice for casual Indian dining. The only downside is that they stop taking orders at 8:00 which seems pretty early to me but the entire street closes down at the same time so I guess it's justifiable. read more

Can't believe that off late we have been eating here at least once a week Lovely little Vegetarian Indian restaurant that tends to get a bit busy during weekend lunchtime! We totally love the Gujarati & Punjabi Thali that come with a wonderful spread including roti (heavy on ghee!), pulao, dal, 3 curries, appetizer, dessert, chas, raita & pappad!. If you like rotla & don't crave for srikhand, then the Kathiawadi Thali is also an interesting try. The green chutney and raita are absolutely delicious. I would also recommend their vada pav, khandvi, undhiyo & dahi puri. The corn chevda that is occasionaly served in the Guj thali is an interesting item that we have not found anywhere else. Its more like mashed sweet corn n dal which is made mouth watering with some green chilly spice. I would not give 5 stars because we have also had a couple of items which were just mediocre like pani puri & pav bhaji & this place is also not suitable for a group of more than 4 or 6 ppl. As a first timer, the food was interesting and very tasty. I loved how they gave you a variety of food. The only thing that I didnt like was how they got irritated when I asked questions of what I was orsering...I mean yeah get mad if I ask 100 questions...but not on the 2nd question...the cashier was nice enough to explain to me the Indian candies. Hi, I tried Kathwadi thali and it is simply super with all fresh taste, kichidi is good Bajra roti is so soft and delicious. Curries are medium spice and tastes good. Also tried Punjabi thali, it is fine. Kathwadi thali is my favorite. As per reviews, Dahi puri is recommended but I feel it is ok, little more freshness in the curry stuffed is expected. Going to a fusion place could never compare to the real thing! i'm a huge fan of the enriched spices and distinct flavors of indian food! I have to be honest, i had to idea what to order- with the help of a friend, i order the punjabi thali which had three curries- all amazing! I particially enjoyed the choley puri. What a tasty dish! One thing i absolutely disliked was the Manchurian. The restaurant worker suggested that i would like this dish (and in the back of my head i knew it was cause i'm asian). This was a sweet red saucy non coconut milk curry- i would say a bad version of chinese food. yuck. should i be insulted? well regardless, i know he meant well. Worst service. Untrained staff and no one knows what they are doing. Did not attend our table and after being seated they asked us to give the table to someone else who arrived after us. We had to get up and leave because the waiter was snobbish and instead trying to help us and set up another table they basically let us leave without any apologies. They don't clean or disinfect any tables properly after customers leave. I noticed couple tables who were not cleaned after people left. In this time there should be some sort of safety protocol. yesterday we ordered khichdi ,kadhi, undhiyu, chhole and puri. Out of those items chhole and puri was horrible. We ordered puri cause i don't want to eat anything made from meda flour. Guess what i got in puri.. same made out from meda. Some people may know what causes meda to your body but this guys not using wheat flour i guess meda is cheap for them. This is my third bad experience at this restaurant. AND CHHOLE was horrible even some of it not even cooked well and i had to throw it away. what else you can do after take out delivery? My one of relative always says don't go on week days as mostly they are serving previous days food not freshly made. Plus Onion they gave was not even fresh and by looking we can tell.. I'm not personally a fan of their dosas and other non gujarati food but I guess having some variety helps, they could be a bit better flavored. Did the job! Samosa had kind of an odd pastry coating, not what you would normally have. Their dahi puri was pretty good and had a nice spice level to it. The gobi manchurian was a little sweet but overall was fine. Service was good and we got our food quickly. read more

After trying a bunch of places up and down Pioneer, for me this is the best thali so far in the area, so I'm going to give it another star. Also, I tried the Kathiawadi thali, based on Vic P's mentioning it, and it was pretty good. The rice is flavored. I was in Cerritos for Diwali Shopping with my wife and my wife decided to eat here. We had been here 3-4 months ago and had ordered Gujarati Thali. We ordered Gujarati thali this time also. I was really surprised at the items in the thali as all the items were exactly same as 3-4 months ago. They were raitha, sweet dish, surti undhiyo, potato vegetable, black eyed peas, daal, rice and 5 puris. This time the price was 20% more with no change in quality. People go to the restaurant to eat food which is different from home cooked food. The food was bland then and was bland now. I was not satisfied then and not satisfied now. The price of their thali increased from $9.99 to $17.99 within 2-3 years which is 90% increase. But the inflation has not gone up by 90% during this time. I would have paid $2 more at Rajdhani and enjoyed much tastier and unlimited Gujarati food. read more

What a great spot for Indian food in SoCal. Been going here for years and the quality has been amazing always. They are specialized in Gujarati food but the chaat is amazing as well. I am from Bombay so I know good chaat :) They place has always been very clean and hygienic and they have improved it even further in COVID situations. The staff is great and friendly as well, I am always confused because I want to eat everything:) but they let me take my time to order and help out with recommendations. We were assigned a table by one of the staff we were sitting there, ordered our food and then other staff member came and very rudely asked us to get up from the table. Horrible Vada Pao. The vada patty was just just a potato tiki, double or triple times fried, stale in taste and look. Unlike a vada, the potato masala was not made and nor it was covered in the besan layer and then fried. It was very stale and horrible. It's so hard to judge Indian food when you are Indian. If there is any place to go that is known for Indian food, it's Artesia. I have eaten at other Indian restaurants in the area but I really, really enjoyed Jay Bharat. We walked into a very busy restaurant, after lunch rush. That's a good sign. The ordering system is a little difficult to follow but we figured it out. You go to the counter, place an order and they give you a table to sit at. So no saving tables. I got the paneer tikka with naan (my choice of garlic or regular--I chose regular), my mom got the Kathiyawadi thali, with undyu, as well as soft drinks. I liked my meal. They went a little heavy on the ghee but otherwise the gravy was perfect balance of spice and savory. I dipped the naan bread in the gravy in between bites of cheesy paneer. Anooooother Indian restaurant? Friends, is this you? Dreading another Indian restaurant with the usual tandoori meats, seared naan bread, saag paneer, dal makhni, etc? Not to worry, you are suffering from "Punjabi burnout." What is that, you ask? Well, most Indian restaurants in L. A. are actually Punjabi, and while I have nothing against the Punjab or its people, for some reason, restaurants here think this is what they have to be like to be successful. For example, a very good restaurant in North Hollywood called Salomi used to offer wonderful distinctly Bengali dishes like egg curry, but has dropped them in favor of straight-ahead Punjabi-style. A tragedy in my opinion. I specifically sought this place out because it is one of the few but growing number of "ethnic" Indian restaurants in L.A. Jay Bharat is actually Gujarati, whose cuisine is identified by sweetness in the various curries rather than the usual salty spiciness. I ordered the Gujarati Thali ($8.99) which includes (according to their website): rice, dal, pickles, a kathor, two vegetable curries, two farsan, a papadam, poori or roti, raita, and a dessert. Well, this was true, but the taste and texture of these items was so unusual that I need to make note. The dal was more like a sambar, very soupy, but unlike sambar, was sweet, with fruits and nuts. I chose rotis, which were much lighter and pastry-like compared to the usual whole-wheat type. A stack of five came buttery-hot in a compartment in the center of the thali. (A thali is a stainless steel tray with compartments, kind of like the trays the military eat from.) The "kathor" (a non-sweet curry) was, to my pleasant surprise, made from the not-oft-seen kala chana, a small dark variety of chickpea. The others, one an okra and the other a pea and potato thing, were spicy and sweet. Another note was the pickles. The "pickles" here were a crunchy zucchini-like fruit in the usual red paste without the intensely salty flavor most achaar have. They also served a small green chili pepper pickled in something like a thin watery cornmeal marinade (I have seen this before in homemade Rajasthani food) which rendered it with a clean, acrid quality unlike anything I've ever tried before. The farsan were amazing. One was a small, thin, perfectly triangular fried stuffed morsel resembling a vegetable samosa, but with an exquisite cinnamon-toasty flavor inside. The other was a fried sphere stuffed with mashed pea and potato with a similar quality. The dessert was a gooey yellow glop with an intensely sweet citrus saffron flavor, topped with chopped pistachio. I also had a "cheeku shake," which is not unique to this place. The cheeku is some kind of gritty fruit that resembles guava in texture but tastes a bit more like a mocha banana. And, most notably, in contrast to the parsimonious swindles of other restaurants I have reviewed, when I asked for ice water, they actually gave me an entire stainless steel pitcher and two cups! I am a little peeved with this place for one thing, however. The prices were taped over on the main board that I ordered from, and when I went up to pay, the cashier quickly stated the price without itemizing it or showing a bill. It seemed a bit high and I naively didn't bother asking, either. But now that I read their website, there are a couple of dollars unaccounted for. I will let it go based on prices going up and perhaps the board and website have not been updated yet, but . . . P. S. Afterward, I went down the street a bit to Shan's grocery, for what was undoubtedly the BEST sweet paan I have ever had! Every bite was pure ecstasy! read more

Three of us ordered two thalis (kathiyawadi and gujarati) plus the mysore garlic dosa, plus a sesame shake, PLUS a mango shake, despite the warnings from all you Yelpers not to be presumptuous in thinking 1 person could finish 1 thali. True to your word, the amount of food that came out of the kitchen was truly staggering. I mean, the number of dipping bowls, soups, chutneys, and yogurts along was something like 6 or 7. We weren't sure what went with whose, so dipped everything in everything. It didn't matter, everything rocked. There were stews, there were curries. They were spicy, they were potato-ey, they had peas, they had peppers, they had beans. The pappadums stayed crispy the whole hour. We had different favorites - mine was something with green chilies, of course. One dish had one little falafel-like ball that was actually fought over. Bowls were passed around like dim sum. Mouths on fire were slaked with ice water and yogurt. The dessert was identifiable only as some kind of orange fruit in thick sticky pudding with pistachios on top, and had to be wrested into three equivalent scoops at the end to avoid fisticuffs. South Indian food hardly ever wows me; this wowed me. Pro tip: while the menu on the wall does not have English translations, the menus on the tables do, sort of. read more
