We came here last night. I ordered the chicken chopped and my husband ordered beef tenderloin kabob. He ordered medium well. It not only was well done, it was tough. He ended up getting a beef gyro, which was not exceptional. The sauce that came with my chicken tasted like it was a watered down version of the garlic sauce. We were up at Beaumont hospital and wanted to get a bite to eat so we checked the phone and found Jay Jay's Bistro not far, right on the corner of 18 Mile (Long Lake) & Dequindre. It was later in the evening like around 8pm and they were not too busy. The four of us ordered: Beef Tenderloin Kabob, Chicken Kabob, Kafta and a chicken Shawarma wrap. Also got the tzatziki appetizer. All the food was very good and tasty. The wrap on the shawarma is a bit dry because they grill it but the chicken was juicy and good, got fries with it they are kind of batter fried. The kafta was very tasty. The tenderloin kabob was tender and very flavorful. Also enjoyed the pita and garlic dip they brought to our table. Our server was Kevin and he did a fine job. I do agree with some comments that it could use some updating for the decor from the old Big Boy. read more

Great little restaurant. From the outside you can tell that it's obviously an old Big Boy. Inside it's a beautiful little place with great service and excellent food. A friend suggested this place for lunch while I was in town seeing how I was craving shawarma. I'm quite happy he did. Now, it still looks like a Big Boy inside and a bit on the outside. However that doesn't take away from the food or the service. While I wish we would have had a bit more attention at the table, their food was amazing and had great prices. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!!!! I eat here often and I feel like the experience gets worse by the visit so jayjays lost a regular but I doubt they care. This place is horribly run.. a bunch of young girls waitressing there but always make you feel like you're an inconvenience. These girls are more miserable than Mc Donald's workers. I ordered a small salad with chicken online and it gave me a 45-55 minute wait so I called in about that. The girl I spoke to said no it I'll take 15-20 minutes.. I got there after 15 minutes and found 2 girls at the counter. I told them I was there for the salad and one said it's back there and both said they couldn't get it then both went to the kitchen.. I was waiting and waiting and got frustrated so I mentioned that I don't understand why they can't get my salad if it's back there I already paid for it.. she told me it was never made so I asked for a refund and she said it would be made fast I said ok and I waited a couple mins or so and finally got it. Unbelievable.. I'd rather spend my money at a place who appreciates your business and doesn't make you feel inconvenient. read more

This is my favorite place to come to anytime of the day. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The food is soo good. The waiters and waitresses are so very friendly. I work at beaumont Troy hospital and all of us order food from here and it's nice because they can deliver most times. I always buy my salad dressings from them. My husband and I often go to Jay Jay's bistro because it is so close to our house. I stopped in for a quick lunch and it was busier than usual. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come to my table to greet me because they were arguing over who got which table. Then I ordered a soup and an appetizer I'm still waiting on it an hour later. I hear lots of laughing and giggling going on in the back. I heard one girl tell a guy that came in for carry out that the cook burned his food so they had to redo it. I tried JJ's out a while ago when they first opened and I wasn't impressed, but my mom insisted we give them another try and so we did. Her and I came here for lunch a few days ago and it really hasn't changed much. It's a very dull place. All brown, with booths and tables. No photos, nothing that gives it life or welcomes you. Anyway, we ordered our food and I got the Asian stir fry and my mom got a burger. I got a side salad and she got soup. Our first visit here years ago, we saw the waitress pour soup in a cup and microwave it. This time, it happened again. Call me old fashioned or a snob eater, but I'm absolutely against microwaves in a professional kitchen! If a large batch is made in the am and you need it re-heated, use the stove!! The food is just bland here or WAY too saucy. My stir fry was all sauce that I couldn't even eat it. I had to pick each veggie off and then tilt my plate so the sauce ran down and I can pour it into another dish. Safe to say, we won't be back again. read more

First time coming today. Went for lunch & had an extremely good half of a mandarin orange, strawberry & walnut salad with some on the best raspberry vinaigrette I have had. The smoothie paired grand! Later the same day, so impressed with the service and food I went for dinner. The BEST gyro meat, with a large quantity, and the tortilla soup was worthy of an award. Even the chips were class a team. The waitress was very sweet with the dine-in lunch and another just as sweet with the take-out dinner. Added bonus, the menu is VERY large & diverse. The service is slow and their not right on top of refilling your drinks, but damn is the food good. If they did a better job with service they would be 5 stars! The Greek dishes are the wholesome, fresh and flavorful delights I have been looking for, to eat, when I am wanting to think how the Greek islanders would cook and serve a dish. Sophia, she is a gem. Wonderful service and a bright smile was on her agenda. The pita bread was made in an earth oven, in the place, (I saw a man taking them out of the oven behind the counter) and was thin and fresh. The spinach pie was home made and full of flavor, and fat with feta and spinach. The salad was fresh and crunchy with a homemade dressing. The flaming cheese was a good size, and the cheese was hot and filled with the taste of goat cheese, not cow. The rice was long and cooked perfect. Really good cook at night. The garlic spread, served with the homemade pita, could mean no kissing tonight. No room for the large portions of cake or other deserts they have at the front counter. So disappointing, we ordered take out for Mother's Day and the waiter said he would have to charge us "extra" because they were busy. I said ok since it was convenient to pick up on the way to my parents. Got there to pick up the food and the place was dead and they charged me $25 dollars for no reason! I'm disappointed because our food was good and the waiter was nice and made sure the food was ready when I picked it up. My husband and I tried this in a rush once because it wasn't crowded. We were really pleasantly surprised by the service and food. I love all types of Mediterranean food and have since tried several things. Excellent shawarma, fattoush and kabobs. Also the housemade pink greek dressing is one of the best I've had. My husband has had several of the breakfasts and burgers and enjoyed everything. The exterior and interior still looks like a Big Boy and not even the new ones. The building hasn't been updated since I was a child in the 80's, could possibly be the same floor. This place is always quiet and I wonder if the appearance is part to blame. We had never stopped if we were 't pressed for time. Would love to see this place make it because food is great. read more
