Something about it just seemed off, and the flavor was noticeably different from other locations I've visited. I'm not sure what went wrong, but it was disappointing. The only redeeming part of my visit were the happy hour drinks, which honestly made the meal a bit easier to get through. I was really hoping for a better experience and hope this was just an off day.

Because I was waiting on live boiled crawfish from another vendor, I decided to just share a link of boudin for $5. Their young boy said after I ordered, "Sure! You have to ring the boudin bell!" So I did, while his mother laughed and wrapped up a link for me. She made sure I knew how to eat it (I did), and I asked her if it was spicy or not (she said not at all...probably due to the DC clientele...but that they were good and that they shipped them straight from Louisiana). They also had an assortment of mild Cajun seasonings and hot sauces. It was not the best boudin I've ever had (that one goes to the Boudin King in Louisiana), but it was slightly better than the boudin I can get at the grocery store in Texas (but bigger). The Jambalaya Shack's also had good amounts of little liver pieces in it. I wish I had had hotter seasonings (cayenne chile powder would have been awesome) to spice it up with... I wish I had also tried their namesake jambalaya, but it was the chicken/sausage variety and other than the boudin, I was in the mood for seafood. I do think I was the only person I saw at the festival that tried the boudin (or probably knew what it was). Speaking of seafood, the other caterer's boiled crawfish was bland, and Jambalaya Shack was nice enough to let us have some of their seasonings. They saved the day.

I love the atmosphere of this place. Its very quaint and colorful; it's smaller than your typical dine in restaurant, but as long as you're not hosting a larger party, it'll be well suited. They decorated the walls with an oceanic theme: sea shells, colorful fish and fish nets. Well though out since the menu mainly consists of seafood. I've enjoyed the shrimp, but the crab balls are my all time favorite ! Jumbo Lump crab meat seasoned well with a side of cocktail sauce:) Yummy ! The fish is less than mediocre. The batter is tasteless and bland. They need a certified "Grandma" on the fish grease and seasoning. Unfortunately my last experience wasn't a pleasant one. I ordered crab balls and picked up my order per usual. After paying I asked for an extra cocktail sauce...and then she appeared. The "Captain of Condiments" . A young asian woman who proceeded to tell me about the "Constitution of Cocktail Sauce". It wasn't that serious so I left without paying an additional .75-- Normally I'd shrug it off, but was bit overzealous for my taste. Tried a new spot for AYCE crabs and honestly, it was a really disappointing experience. They asked us to pay upfront for the all-you-can-eat, which isn't necessarily an issue--but it should be applied consistently. Other tables weren't asked to do the same, which felt off. Big red flag: the beer they were serving was expired. That alone made me question everything else. As for the "all-you-can-eat" crabs... it didn't feel like it. The trays kept getting smaller--first 6 crabs, then 5, then 4, and eventually just 3. That's not what most people expect from AYCE. On top of that, the quality wasn't great--some crabs tasted off, and others were overcooked and dried out. Also surprising: they charge extra for basics like butter and vinegar. I love the this place honestly. The crabs here are so fresh like they would even show you a live sample which some place don't offer. I had gotten the dozen jumbo male and it exceeded my expectations because that jumbo male crab had so much meat in it and it was so good. I only ate about 2 and I got full and this is coming from a crab eater. Even thought I ate half of a fish sandwich which was as well exceed my expectation because the fish was just crispy and tender and just amazing. The decoration in this place is just amazing I love the under water theme, remind me of spongebob but this place is a good place to go if you want crabs or fish and I'll be back to try more food in their menu. read more

Since last year JC has become my only crab spot. The staff is always friendly and the service is excellent. She remembers my name and my orders. If I forget to order the sauce, she always reminds me "any sauce today"？ Really, she has a very very good memory. For sure today we get JUMBO MALE again, it was so so so good, heavy, big, sweet and meaty. Also we got jumbo shrimp platter which is my boy's favorite. Deep fried into golden color, shrimps are crispy and juicy very yummy. So I stumble upon this place on a Saturday afternoon. Place was quiet busy and when I had walked in I can just smell fish and crabs and I LOVE IT. It didn't take me long for me to decide what I wanted. I had gotten seafood B which had crabs,crab legs, corn, and shrimp. I also gotten a order of flounder platter and I gotta say this place has the best crab,fish,and shrimp I've tasted in a while. Around this area there aren't many good seafood place but now I have found one that's amazing. I found this place on line and what a surprise. The seafood is the bomb. The crabs are big, heavy and juicy with a reasonable price. It's packed with bold flavors and a nice spicy kick (This makes it addicting).You also can't sleep on potatoes and corn! It's soft and sweet which balances out the bold tastes! Our food was served at an appropriate rate (apps, then main, which seems not to be important at a lot of restaurants these days) and the water service was excellent. Recommend this restaurant. I probably would not get the Branzino again because of the heavy dill seasoning, but there are other items in the menu that look interesting.
