Customers order from the person running the cash register and then sit down at a hard-wood picnic table to eat. The large majority of items on the menu are fried, and selections are, overall, limited. If you are looking for high-quality seafood dishes, JC is NOT the place for you to go. If, on the other hand, a fried shrimp basket (with tasty crispy fries and bland cole slaw) is the type of thing you're in the mood for, then JC should work out just fine for you. The restaurant also offers by-the-pound purchases of fresh shrimp and crabs. Customers should note in advance that the fresh fish is extremely expensive--higher than any place in the entire DC area that I've visited to date. Another one of those new spots that just pop up out of nowhere. My plan was to go to another place but they had an issue and needed a plumber. I decided to eat here. It's a small but quiet place. No one else was here. It's 6 indoor picnic tables which were sturdy. The menu was easy to read and affordable. This place is family owned and the young man who made my order was really nice. The interior is an underwater theme. I was about to sing the Spongebob Squarepants intro but I didn't. I like this place. The fish was nice and tastes fresh. The hushpuppies were not as crispy as I would like but still flavorful. The shrimp were good in size. The fried were great. The ginger tea wasn't sweet enough for me. I couldn't find crabs locally in Southern Maryland on a Monday and I was making an unrelated trip to Silver Spring so I decided to call around. JC was the only place with Jumbo crabs in stock and boy did they deliver. In my 40 years of being a Marylander, including having a boat and crabbing and cooking crabs myself, I've never had crabs this big and delicious! First time visit. I called to place my take-out order and meal was close to ready upon arrival. The staff was welcoming and pleasant. I ordered 2 dozen large steamed male crabs with seasoning, cold slaw, corn-on-the-cob, hush puppies, and seaweed salad. The crabs were well cooked, seasoned and meaty. If you like your cold slaw tangy you will enjoy this version, my wife loved the hush puppies and seaweed salad, and the corn was good. This place is a nice addition to this part of Silver Spring and look to return to try their array of seafood platters. Great to know this is a viable food option in my neighborhood. read more

Make sure you specify which one you want. As a disclaimer, don't come in here with the expectation that it is a traditional Maryland seafood place. It really isn't. The crabs were awful. That was a waste of my money and time. I ordered a dozen of medium males. I cracked the first one and it was ok. The second one was smelling bad a little so I threw it in the bucket. The third one smelled so bad I could hardly stand the scent. I was told that's the way they smell, but would bring me two more crabs. They brought two new crabs out. One of those was good and one was not fit to eat. I eat crabs every week so I know what crabs are supposed to smell and taste like. After cracking 6 crabs I said I can't take it anymore they aren't any good so can I have half my money back for the ones I did not crack. I was told they don't give refunds so I am out $45 and ate two crabs. read more

Have ordered steamed crabs from here several times already. We haven't been disappointed yet - they were delicious and very meaty! Have also had the fried shrimp and fish combo which was also good. So we settled on this place, First off the woman taking the order didn't seem to friendly or helpful, she did a lot of pointing at the menu. Once we paid, she brought out a smile and thanked us. Figures,,, I was over that, NEXT Ordered the shrimp basket and Fish Platter, Shrimp was bland and fish was bland, fries soggy..The Coleslaw was dry, the hush puppies were decent. To steam Crab Legs you have to buy 2 clusters. Not one place I have ever been to does that. They will steam anything you want. With all that said. We will not be rushing back there for anything. 2 stars for the hush puppies. Looked at the prices of crabs, seem to pricey. Will take the trip to the Wharf, well worth it. read more

Buyers beware! I don't like scammers, when it comes to seafood! This was my second time coming to this restaurant. My first experience was pricey but very good. So that's why we decided to visit again. A quick disclosure (I ate crabs at least once a week) the customer service is a zero, the owner has no personality. She doesn't greet you or even seem happy to even have customers, very nonchalant attitude. (And As we looked over the menu and decided to still order the total did not add up, we questioned the total..then the owner advises us there is a 15% dining in fee! WHAT!!! We have to pay higher prices and to stay and eat. Absolutely not! We left and will never return. Now it makes since why she never gave me a real receipt the first visit after I asked several times! What a disappointment! This place is in a run down strip mall in a bad neighborhood. It was 7pm on Friday and nobody was there. That should have been my first clue. I had a crab platter. I was HIGHLY disappointed at the size and weight of the so called "extra large" and "jumbo". These crabs were half the size of the ones I got in July and when I complained, I was told there was nothing they would do to keep me as a customer.
