We attended a friend's birthday party this weekend and Jen's Cakes provided two gorgeous and delicious tasting cakes. I chose Jens Cakes because of the wonderful and freakishly talented Shavon!!! Not only did my wedding cake need to be Gluten-Free, but we had a black/white marble theme, AND we can't stand fondant, and wanted buttercream frosting. Shavon is AMAZING!!!!!! YOU COULD NOT TELL THIS CAKE WAS GF!!! Everyone at the wedding was raving about how good this cake was. Thank goodness we took the top layer off after cutting it, bc it was completely GONE before we could get a slice!! It should have fed over 50 people, and there was only 42 people there!!! (I think I know who went back for 2nds or 3rds lol) In fact, the cake was so delicious, I have to order another small one for the Mr and I, so we have something to eat on our 1 year anniversary. We were SUPPOSED to put our third tier in the freezer...but it's so freaking good, we can't stop eating it!!!! Now, onto how gorgeous the marble buttercream frosting turned out!!! I don't know if it was more beautiful, than delicious!! Seriously!! I can add a pic, but it won't do this work of art the justice it deserves. I can't show you how good it tastes, because 1) I don't know you. 2) There isn't anymore!!! The service alone deserves 5 stars. I emailed Jen about ordering a half and half cake. Because I anticipated the answer I asked if it'd be OK to order 2 different cakes so she can use it to make it a half an half. Although a strange request but Jen was able to accommodate my request. After a day in Santa Cruz we came by to pickup the cake in the afternoon on a Saturday. It is easy to miss because you will not see this bakery from the street... just follow your GPS or make sure you stop when following the address sequence down Lincoln Ave. Shortly after picking up the cake I had Tess blow out the candles and make a wish. As we were cutting the cake, I made sure to cut it completely in half so we can see the inside. The red velvet and the cookies and cream are decadent, smooth, and not overly rich. now that I'm older I appreciate sweet treats w/o making me feel sick after eating it. Both kids enjoyed the cake very much. I'd definitely order from Jen again. Oh, if you are wondering what happened to the other 2 halves, I had it boxed for consumption. I don't normally post 2 star reviews but we were honestly just so disappointed with our cake. We chose Jen's cakes because the pictures looked great and they said they could do a shaped cake. I'm not a cake expert but the design felt relatively simple and we contacted them weeks in advance. You can see in my photo what we were expecting and what we got. Yes it *technically* was a round shape with a face, but it just felt so distorted (bizarrely tall, no dimpling at the top, eyes and smile placement is off, no blushy cheeks). My husband said it looked like Jack from Jack in the Box, I thought it looked like a snowman head. The only good thing was the raspberry cream cheese filling. We chose chocolate faustine as the cake flavor, which was described as a creamier chocolate. I don't know what it was supposed to be like, but our cake texture was just really dense and kinda dry. We splurged and paid $140 for this 7" round cake (for context, this cost half of what I paid for my wedding cake which was for 100+ guests!) because we wanted something special for our baby's first birthday. My sister chose to purchase her wedding cake from Jen's Cakes. We first arrived for the tasting about 4 or 5 months prior to the wedding. I attended along with the Bride, and my nephew. We were greeted immediately upon entering (the location is kind of funky and parking is awful nearby). We were given one plate with about 8 samples on it. We tried and tested each one - wish we had coffee to go along with that much cake in the morning. We ended up choosing something with raspberry, and something with green tea. There were some slight issues the days before the event with my sister's succulent decorations but it wasn't anything earth shattering. The cake ended up being lovely and the green tea was BOMB. Moist, soft, delicious goodness that was devoured by the bridal party a day later. I would recommend Jen's business to any brides and grooms who are looking for a pretty simple and easy wedding cake experience. read more

Jen's Cake made a cake for my sister's 50th Birthday. I live in the UK and wanted to order a special cake as I could not join her for her big day. Shavon was very very helpful and kind.She suggested me the flavours to go with as I wanted to order chocolate cake. Angel was very prompt in replying to my emails and helped me organise things even at a short notice of 3 days. The delivery was spot on time .Thank you! The cake was a masterpiece and my sister was ecstatic when she received it. She said it tasted one of the best cakes she has ever eaten,I wish I was there to share this with her. Wow so happy to found Jen's Cakes. They have been so patient, so helpful, so understanding, and great at what they do!!! Wanted to get a birthday cake for my baby turning one year old, but she is allergic to dairy and eggs and has eczema, so they has agreed to bake my daughter an eczema friendly vegan cake! One month before my daughter's 1st yr bday I was scrambling to find a custom cake bakery. I usually use Marvel Cake in Campbell who I used in previous years for my eldest daughter's bdays. But sadly they were not responding to my order request this year. It must have been too short of a notice. Anyway, I heard about Jen's Cakes from a close friend. On yelp, the pictures of their cakes looked amazing and equivalent to the ones at Marvel Cake so I reached out for two birthday cakes for 2 different bdays (for my 2 daughters). This is when I discovered that Jen's Cakes was now under new ownership and the new owner's name is Shavon. She confirmed with me that she received my pictures and she said that they would be able to make the cakes as shown in the pics. The two cakes requested: 1) the little mermaid cake for my 4 yr old and 2) traditional Korean- inspired cake for my 1 yr old. 1 week before the first cake pick up, I got a phone call from Shavon who said that she could not use or make Disney characters on the cake due to copyrights and stated that I would need to buy a cake popper by Disney. Then I told her no need to make it "Disney" and to use any mermaid decoration. (At this point I should have looked up pictures and send one to her to replicate). On the day of pickup at 9 am, Shavon was running late and asked if I wanted my daughter's name on the cake and I responded yes. She had other excuses why she was late and she stated that she had been very busy blah blah and that her decorator missed something. I was empathetic towards her and told her not to worry. However, when the cake was presented to me, I was a bit disappointed at the product. I was expecting something beautiful as the cakes that I have received in the past. The decoration overall looked tacky and cheap. Also the name was just hand traced with the frosting like they do at the grocery store. But I accepted the cake because it might be something that a 4-year-old would still be impressed by --the mermaid tail, vertical twisted sea plant, and little sea shells. To be honest, I thought that it was a cake that someone decorated for a school project. It did not look professional. On the 2nd day for cake #2, I get a text at 8:21 am that my cake would be ready for pickup at 11 am, instead of the already established pick up time of 9 am. I live almost an hr away and the party was supposed to start at 12 pm. The text also did not apologize or acknowledge any inconvenience that this delay may have caused. So I was a bit annoyed by that. Finally, at 11 am, I went to pick up cake and the cake was presented to me. I was in shock. It looked nothing like the cake in the picture. As she was showing me the cake and pointed at this white flower on top of second tier, she said that she knows that it does not look like the flower in the photo but stated that it was 25 dollars (as if that would make it ok that she didn't follow my picture?). The flower looked strange too as if it was missing something. It looked like a blank canvas that should have been colored. It was ugly and I wanted to cry. It was not the fact that it looked so different from the picture that it was upsetting me so much. It was poorly designed. I have no cake decorating skill but I probably could have made it better. There was no skill in the creation. I probably should have refused to take the cake and asked for reimbursement in that moment in time but It was already the day of the party and I was running late. Maybe I could have just stopped by Safeway and picked up a cake that did not look hideous. I sent a text to Shavon and expressed my dissatisfaction. She said that she loved the cake and thought that the cake looked exactly like the picture which tells me that she does not have an artistic/aesthetic eye; she has no attention to detail. I will post photos of cakes below of what I asked for and what I got from her. She did ask how she can fix the situation but there was really nothing that she can do on the day of the bday and she already delayed my time by 2 hrs. I had to resend the same pic that I already emailed to her initially. And then she starts to acknowledge the differences, specifically about the flowers, between pic and product. She started to blame the print of the picture as to why they made a cake that looked so different. She then proceeds to saying that the client should bring in the flower. Then i said, you should have communicated with me, before the day of the pickup! Then excuse after excuse... that she is new at the business, she's short-staffed etc. it was very poor business etiquette. Customers don't want to hear that you're a mess and do not have it together. If you want a beautiful custom cake and you're spending $$$, go elsewhere because you're not going to get it here read more

I was called everywhere to find someone that can do a baby shark cake and luckily found Jen's bakery. She had several orders but still Managed to take in one more to make my sons day even more special. I sent her a picture of what I wanted and the cake looks better than the picture I sent her. Let me save you some time. If you're looking for a cake that looks as good as it tastes, and they taste amazing, look no further. Seriously. Now the in depth version for the doubters. I work at a local business in San Jose and everyone in our office has everyone else's birthday marked on their calendars. Not because we are all looking forward to buying gifts. Simply put we are looking forward to a cake from Jen's Cakes. Although we all have our own favorites we really don't mind taking a slice or two from all the cakes because they are all amazing. From the white chocolate, the confetti to the red velvet, they all look great and ,oddly enough, we never have left overs. Once the office knows someone on our team is having a birthday people we haven't seen for days start to mysteriously swing by until they just happen to spot whatever masterpiece Jen's has created for us. So yes, do yourself a favor and buy a cake here but be forewarned it won't be your last. read more

After many hours of scouring the Santa Clara, San Jose, Sunnyvale and Palo Alto geographical areas for a reputable bakery, my now wife and I decided to pick Jen's Cakes for our wedding cake. This proved to be the absolute correct decision. From the first phone call, to the private tasting and finally the moment we devoured the cake at our reception dinner; everything was flawless. Sarah, was an extremely knowledgeable and personable woman who assisted us the whole way during the delightfully amazing experience. The cake tasting was a wonderful private encounter for my then fiance and I. We ended up choosing a naked style Chocolate Bailey's Cake with White Chocolate Mousse & Toffee Filling topped with Butter Cream Icing. It had us at first bite. Second bite. It still has us. There were no hiccups, issues or delays with our cake. It was finished on the exact timeline provided to us and even met our strict timeline needs when most bakeries wouldn't. Sarah was there communicating with us every step of the way and even let me borrow a cake stand when I picked up our beautiful finished cake. I can't say enough how happy my wife and I are with the experience we had with Jen's Cakes. (It's a bit hard to find and hard to park, BUT WELL WORTH IT!) Overall, the cake was fine. I thought the design could have been a little better (the gold flakes looked slapped on) and for an extra $25 I asked for some live greens on the side, but it was plastic (and clearly looked plastic). We asked for a 2 tier cake with the top as red velvet and cream cheese, the bottom was vanilla with raspberry filling. The red velvet was very, very dry. The raspberry filling was just a tiny bit, nothing like I imagined. Overall, it was fine but just could have been better. read more

We hired Jens Cakes for our wedding and they did an amazing job. The cake was perfect and tasted great! There was a misunderstanding with our Venue and when we called Jens Cakes they were extremely kind and helpful. We called them in a panic since the cake wasn't where we were expecting and they helped us get everything figured out right away. Turns out it was in a fridge and they had delivered it right on time! Should have written a review for this place a while ago but it's always seemed to slip my mind. Customized fondant cake: top layer was vanilla and bottom layer was chocolate with cookies n cream filling. Paid extra for the edible Ace/King of Spades. Ordering the cake over the phone was a breeze. Great customer service and very easy to talk to. They took my payment right over the phone so I didn't have to go all that way prior to simply picking it up. Cake was stunning and did its job regarding the whole 'WOW-factor'.... Unfortunately the cake was dry and the filling didn't taste like cookies n cream at all!! This was my first time ordering fondant and didn't realize how thick and overbearing the taste was. FYI- from what I hear: I got ripped off by what they charged for my cake. MuLtipLe friends ordered customized fondant cakes elsewhere- some two tiered- and paid a fraction of what I did. Received so many compliments, On the tuxedo birthday cake! My baby boy now two years old. It was the best cake, I was told! We found Jen's cake of course on Yelp! There are so many people, Who vote for them, their voices helped, And cake was what we needed! The Sea explorer - party theme, For our baby toddler. He loves to swim, to the extreme! So Sea theme was in order! Blue water cake, six inches tall, With octopus and fishes. Crab on the sand, the algae, all, Was perfect composition! Eighth inches wide, it was good size. Enough for twenty people! So our choice was very wise! No bigger cake was needed! Inside the sponge was very moist, And fluffy, like a cloud! That's what our guests enjoyed the most! Cake was success - I'm proud! Our friends suggested other place, But they would charge us double! For same size cake, for goodness sake! It's a cake, not a resort for couples! My husband and I did some research looking for someone to make our wedding cake. We weren't looking for anything fancy or elaborate. We wanted simple and elegant. We found Jens cake on Yelp. From beginning to the end of our experience (the day of our wedding) was a fantastic.' Jennifer was always prompt in returning our calls and emails. We made an appointment to do a cake tasting, which I highly recommend. We ended up picking something we never would have if we didn't do the tasting. Our wedding cake was gorgeous and very us. We decided on the raspberry filling with white cake. (I don't recall all the details, name of it or frosting) Our wedding cake and cupcakes were a total hit. We got rave reviews from our guests wanting to know where it came from. By far the best cake I've ever had! I can't wait for our 1 year anniversary to have a small one made. :) Her prices are very reasonable and her final product is well worth every penny! I love weddings. Seriously, I love weddings. So much so that I will go to weddings as a +1 even when I don't have a clue who is getting married. So, keep me in mind if you ever need a wedding date. =o) And of course, one of the best parts of weddings is the wedding cake. Jen's Cakes made the cake for my friend's wedding back in 2009, and I still have not had a better slice of cake. It was so good that my friend and I stuffed our faces with about 5 slices of cake each before leaving the wedding. Literally. Lucky for me, my friend's sister is getting married this year and I got to go along for the cake tasting. Score! The lady helping us was so helpful and accommodating. The bride-to-be was running late because of traffic, but they still let us do the cake tasting even though the bride-to-be didn't get there until an hour after the scheduled appointment. They had a lot of pictures and a few models of cake designs to show us, and thanks to all their helpful suggestions, the perfect cake was ordered. Note: The location is slightly hard to find -- if you can find 1053 Lincoln Ave, just look behind the shop. It threw me off that I found 1053 Lincoln without a Ste number, and the alley leading behind the shop didn't look very inviting. The shop itself doesn't have any big signage. read more

I worked with Jen on my wedding cake! She was amazing and extremely helpful and nice. She was so optimistic and helped when she could. Her emails were always pleasant. I wanted our wedding cake to be HUGE! and for it to also incorporate our wedding decor. She sent me sketches and we finally approved one. I did send her my wedding invitation picture in order for her to use it in the design. In the end, the cake was beautiful, but I wish there was more purple on it and on each tier. Everyone thought it was beautiful. Me being the bride only knew the faults. I picked out three flavors, the chocolate cake with mocha truffle mousse, white cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, and coconut cake with mango mousse. We even ordered one while she was very pregnant & I was super surprised to see her just fater having her beautiful baby girl in there making cakes. Jen is a trooper...we LOVE Jen's cakes! Ours have all been unique and she works very well with us and our ideas...even if they are odd! Suzie Cakes was Not my first choice because the website shows only one option for gluten free cakes- vanilla cake with blue vanilla frosting. So I went looking elsewhere and ran into similar issues with limited cake flavor options. I came back to Susiecakes because I knew I would at least get a tasty cake.. and when I went into the store, I learned that I could get other frostings even though it was not well communicated on the website. I chose vanilla gluten-free cake layered with the strawberry buttercream and decided to purchase a cupcake version of those flavors to taste test before ordering it. Surprisingly, the store clerk didn't charge me for cupcake! That more than made up for having to drive over to ask about other frosting flavors. The next day I worked with one of their customization team specialists, Claud, to work out the details for the custom decoration. Claud was amazing. He emailed me color samples to be sure I agreed- he emailed me a detailed description on the decoration plan while I was on the phone with him just to be sure we were crystal clear. I'm giving a high rating because I never had a cake that I didn't like at Susie Cakes, but also a high rating for the customer service in the store and over the phone/email with the customization group. Lindley is easy to communicate with. From the start of our email communication, he responded in a very timely manner and made the ordering process so easy. On the day of the event, he dropped off the cupcakes and tarts early, which worked out for me and I was able to set up the dessert table with plenty of time. Overall, I had a great experience. I highly recommend him for your events whether they are small or large. I will definitely be ordering from him again for future events.

They found our pre-ordered cake and they did a wonderful job decorating with a cute pumpkin on the top. We also chose an apricot danish, a maple bar and a raisin snail. The prices were very affordable and reasonable here. I really loved how all the pastries and cakes. were displayed in their cases. Everything looked amazing. They even sell fresh loaves of bread and rolls. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We were immediately helped with a smile. I love the old fashioned vibe in here. Both pastry and cake boxes were tired up with sting, to properly secure our box. We paid for our goods and hurried home to try a few of them. The maple doughnut was good. On September 4, 2026, I ordered and paid for my mother's 96th birthday cake--a burnt almond cake--a day in advance. When I arrived to pick it up, the line was very long, and the wait took far too long. Unfortunately, the cake itself was unbelievably dry and crumbled with every bite. After recommending Peter's Bakery to family and friends for many years, I was embarrassed to serve this cake. Sadly, it took away from a very special birthday celebration. I hope Peter's Bakery improves both its customer service and the quality of its cakes.

I can't say I would recommend them for any special occasion. I've never thrown an elaborate party at a venue before, so i really relied on their recommendations of jens cakes and was truly disappointed with the final product and communication both prior and after our party. I threw a 40th birthday party for my wife at a "mansion" in San Jose whom used jens cakes as a recommended vendor. It seemed a little disorganized from the beginning as it felt like I was dealing with high school aged kids answering the phone as no one ever knew what i was talking about. Once I ordered the cake I assumed everything would go smooth. I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG! I arranged for the cake to be delivered prior to our 6PM party on a Saturday and was assured my cake would be there ready and waiting by 2pm. As all the other vendors showed up, everyone kept asking if the cake had been delivered? Our liaison through the "mansion" and her assistant assured us that "OUR" cake people (no longer the "mansions" cake people seeing how they flaked) hadn't delivered the cake yet and that they had checked their walk in refrigerators multiple times. As time ticked and the 6PM came closer and closer, there was no cake. I called jens cakes literally 10+ times and their answering machine would pick up as they only operate on Saturdays by appointment (which i thought I was) and was never given any sort of phone number for anyone who was delivering our cake or someone who could help. Our party started and the cake finally showed up at 7pm. No "sorry were late" or anything. To top it off, the cake was the wrong color as our entire party was themed with purple and they brought a blue cake? We emailed them pic of the cake and made sure they knew exactly what we were looking for. The days following our event I called and even left messages in regards to my frustration and disappointment with their services. Not one response. That's honestly why Im writing this review. They didn't even try and apologize let alone compensate me for anything. You put so much faith into certain vendors because you cant look at the final product until it shows up. I wish I went with anyone else as the only thing worse would have been to "no show". Read some of their other reviews as it seems like Im not the only one to have this same experience. Shop around before you pick someone for your special event, but stay away from jens cakes unless its a last resort. read more

From the moment I placed the order, the staff was incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful in making sure every detail was perfect. They listened carefully to what I wanted and made great suggestions along the way to ensure the final design would come out exactly as we envisioned. I am so thankful to Jen's Cakes who made my wedding vision a reality! While my review is LONG overdue, I would be remiss not shout from the rooftops at how much everyone loved all of the deserts and treats they provided. We couldn't decide what to get so we went with cupcakes, fruit tarts, chocolate covered strawberries, coconut macaroons, white chocolate raspberry bars (AMAZEBALLS!) and, of course, the wedding cake. Overall the Jen's Cakes Bakery was pretty good, however, I don't feel that it has the value. The food was well designed and looked pretty appetizing, however, to be honest with you there are several other bakeries in the area that I preferred. From what I have been reading though, the pudding is the best, so my experience is limited to the cupcakes. I would recommend to give the place a try, especially the pudding, I will be going to check that out. read more

Our custom order was exactly how was described it and a detail wasn't missed. Birthday cake, a custom design Shavon put together based on a suggested theme ("fireworks over Mount Rushmore") was gorgeous and delicious! Guests couldn't believe the illustration of Mount Rushmore on the cake was fully edible! I was quite disappointed in the decorations and what they cost. I expected more for what we paid. The "toppers" were not at all like the photos I sent as examples. If we order again, we'll skip all decorations and do it ourselves. It's wasn't worth paying $0.75 a topper. For the price of the toppers we could have bought another dozen cupcakes. Great cupcakes but not the best.

Last week I ordered a cake for my father for his 90th birthday. They did such a beautiful job on the decoration. The almond cake was super good. I had about 50 guests, many of them made positive comments about the cake the decoration and they loved the flavor. I truly appreciate the customer service I received on the phone or in person. The owner helped me pick this particular decoration for my father. Thank you for all your help.
