Our go to place for asian fusion food. Their menu is huge. It has chinese, cantonese, filipino, THai, korean and etc food. Their food is affordable and tastes good. They also have milktea and boba, fruit shakes and boba. Serving sizes are adequate. People are nice. They have a small snack table where you can buy and try some asian snacks. This place is a hidden diamond. The food here is fresh and amazing. The portions are really big so a simple entree is safe for 2 people. They fill their containers all the way with food that it's hard to close. You need to try their orange chicken and crab Rangoon. You will not be disappointed. We had a great experience here! The staff is very friendly and attentive. We started with the mini pork rolls which came out pretty quickly. They were dry flavorful. We then ordered the Shanghai bok Choy, hunan beef, and The Korean beef rice bowl. All of it was awesome!! The owner, Jessica, is SUPER nice! Her English isn't so good so she's shy speaking to me but she always greets us whenever we go there! She knows I'm Korean so always gives me kimchi whenever I dine. Restaurant has a variety and large(!) selection of Cantonese style Chinese food that you don't have to drive to Chinatown to get! Worst customer service, I was been a customer of Jess cafe since the very first day it opened and I have nothing to say but good compliments for this place until today. When I was doing my order over the phone, the person who's taking my order, whom I believe was the lady order was getting frustrated and getting irritated because she can't understand all my orders. She was making all this frustrating sounds and it's not really helpful for a customer. Then when we pay and asked for a separate bill on 2 orders, she got mad and told us that it's not supposed to be that way, she is very rude and very sarcastic, threatened us to remove our name from her call list, meaning she won't accept any of our orders, who does she think she's scaring of, there's a lot of restaurants all over Chicago, an I'm pretty sure all the businesses needs customers during this pandemic time, so we will see how far you will get with that kind of attitude, I will never ever recommend your place to anyone I know. Wow!!! My husband and I heard of Jess Cafe through instagram and decided to give it a shot since it's less than 10 minutes from home. I can honestly say I've found my new favorite pan-Asian spot!! It's a very unassuming place, very diner-like vibe but the food was PHENOMENAL. For appetizers we had crab rangoon, egg rolls and wonton soup and all were excellent. My husband ordered the sczewan beef and I had the orange chicken. Throughout the meal our waitress was friendly and attentive but the star of the floor was their busser/server assistant. Decided to try this spot based on the good reviews. I'm vegan so we ordered a mixed mushroom vegetable and a pad Thai. The delivery came fast and hot; so that's good. But the pad Thai was beyond average, if not worse. Maybe the second or third string chef cooked it but it just wasn't even good, nothing amazing about it, the noodles all stuck together and the flavor was bland and landed flat. We only ate like 1/5 of it if that. The vegetable was slightly better but it looked just sloppy. Vegetables wading in an inch deep of black broth. The fried rice was really well done, but the mains were just meh. The wontons and housemate sweet and sour sauce were also amazing but I just wasn't impressed with the entrees, I'm shocked it has such high reviews. They were very backed up on the holiday and some waiting for food were being absolute dicks, yelling at the Owner in front of her kids who were helping in the restaurant. It was my first time going to Jess Cafe and it wasn't bad. I was in desperate need of comfort food but didn't want to be restricted by one type of cuisine. Enter Jess Cafe. The menu is huge. Like, "Sorry I need a couple more minutes but actually 10 more minutes please" huge. Free street parking is ample on nearby side streets. I got the lemongrass chicken wings as an appetizer and honestly, there was nothing memorable about them. My boyfriend got the Korean spicy Chicken sizzling plate and I got the tomato rice with short ribs instead of the beef cubes. Both were solid choices and portions were huge. I would consider us to be big eaters and we barely finished. Service was very prompt and kind. I would also recommend the smoothies. 24 oz for $3.75-$4.00 was worth it. Our bill came out to be $33 before tip, so very reasonable. The reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because the short ribs were very chewy and almost impossible to swallow. Additionally, we were seated and our order taken before another table, but they received their food first. Between ordering and getting our food took 30 minutes. A friend of mine put me on to this place and I had my doubts. But I have to say that there is truth to the old adage, "don't judge a book by its cover." The food here is pretty darn good. It's not authentic anyting; rather, it's Asian fusion and Americanized, but it's good! I would say that their cuisine reminds me a lot of PF Chang's, but less salty and less expensive. I had the General Tso's chicken, and it was one of the best I've ever had. Unlike most versions which are way too sweet, this one was the right balance of sweet and savory. In fact, it was more savoury then sweet, with just the right amount of heat. My buddy had the pad thai and he enjoyed it. I'm going to have to go back with my wife! read more
