Thank you Queenie for the amazing food recommendations. The vegetarian dumplings were amazing and don't forget to try the chilli crisp it was 10/10. Lots of vegetarian options here! For the meat options all were great and the standout was the rou jia muo - Customizable meat in pancake. Definitely check this place out and we will come back for sure

Recently tried Jian Bao and was genuinely surprised by both the service and how delicious everything was! They have a free self-service area with millet congee, seaweed soup, an assortment of pickles, and sesame balls -- all of it was so good and such a nice touch. It immediately sets the tone for a welcoming dining experience. What we ordered: * Beef rolls -- 8/10 * Chicken & corn dumplings -- 10/10 (absolute favorite! We ordered 2 plates and wanted to order more). * Shredded potato salad -- 7/10 * Beef Chinese burger -- 7/10 The servers were incredibly kind and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. And if you like spicy chili sauce, definitely ask for it. It takes everything to the next level

Have been super excited about this place opening up in Sunset area! Can never have too many dumpling spots lol It's a small, no-frills type of place with straightforward furniture, albeit likely a recently renovated interior. They have a bathroom which is great. Parking may be a bit hard but honestly probably even a bit easier than elsewhere in Sunset since it's on a quieter part of Irving. Everything on their menu looks good, but we had to try their jian bao (ofc) and to venture out a bit we also tried their Thai tom yum XLB. Both dishes came out pretty quickly, and we really enjoyed both. The texture, fry, and flavor of the jian bao were perfect and they were reallyyyy juicy (take the lesson from me, it spilled a bit haha). Hot tea was also included, nice on a cold day. I will also say the prices are very reasonable, and the service is attentive and efficient. Hoping to come back and try other things! Overall: 5/5

oops.. ate one! Five of the Six Pan fried Buns in a single order. Dee-Lish!

Great Pan Fried Buns - Yes! Jian Bao is a relatively new establishment with a clean simple aesthetic. Jian Bao - the name literally means "Fried Bao", so the natural thing to do is to order their Pan-Fried Buns. Mind you, I am a huge fan of PFBs, so even on a busy evening, it didn't take much for us to at least try an order of their Pan Fried Buns to take home to try out! Served sizzling hot, you get six pan fried buns to one order. The dough is crispy and thick on the bottom 1/3 of the bun, and thinner up top where you can chew off the top and slurp out the hot juices within before enjoying that yummy pork meatball inside, leaving a nice crunchy and chewy bottom to enjoy for last.. repeat until all six are consumed! =). Very juicy, and everything is perfectly prepared - not greasy, and essentially perfect! Solid 5/5! So since this was just a take-out "test" order for us, we definitely look forward to coming back here and trying out the rest of their menu, but first.. another order of PFBs please!! =)

This place is newly opened and Chinese as hell in a good way. We got hella shit for 4 of us. We got: 6 flavor combo XLB Cucumber salad - ordered this twice Green onion pancake Pan fried pork buns House Chicken noodle special Beijing zhajang noodle - this is Beijing style All of it was really delicious and actually inexpensive for what we ordered and the quality and amount we got for 4 people. I'd go here again. The Owners are also very nice and some may have a hard time speaking English so be patient with them on that. But it was nice talking to them getting to know them. It's a solid spot. It's kinda modern cute inside. I'm lazy so I would go here if local but I'd only go again here to visit my friends since they live nearby and I'm literally on the other side of the park. I would def order takeout from here.

cute hidden gem in sunset with pretty authentic food! the menu had a lot of typos and the staff spoke chinese so it was a good sign we loved the braised beef noodles and pan fried buns! the latter was a bit pricier than other spots ($15.95) but it was delicious. the noodles were a good sized portion. the 肉夹馍 (pork pepper burger) was just okay, the bun was a bit bland

I was excited about this opening but the food is just alright and with high prices. We got the tom yum XLB, shengjianbao, and chicken and corn dumplings. The main fault is that the filling texture was off on the meat. Flavor was fine. But here are some many other dumpling places in the Sunset better than this one.

A new spot in the Sunset that is definitely worth trying! It has some of my favorite XLB in the city, very juicy and meaty. The braised beef noodle soup is also soo good, the meat is always tender and has the right amount of fat. I love the broth as well, it's so flavorful! The cucumber salad is another standout as well, I wish I could buy it in bulk and eat it throughout the week I've come here 3 times now, and I've loved the food every time, it's one of my new go to places for a more casual bite to eat. The service is quick and super friendly, they are always so welcoming and kind! The restaurant itself is pretty spacious and tidy, the seats are very comfortable. Very much a vibes of a local mom and pop restaurant! It goes without saying, but I will be back!

Solid spot for Braised Beef Noodle Soup & Beef Pancake Roll. Server was friendly and was not busy during lunchtime Monday. I would go back to try the XLB. Items I tried: -Braised Beef Noodle Soup 4.5/5 Flavorful curry like broth with fresh chewy noodles. Decent portion of beef. Up to standard to what others offer. -Beef Pancake Roll 4.2/5 Wish there was more beef inside but taste wise hits the spot. -Pan Fried Pork Buns 4/5 Really crispy bottom almost too hard. Flavorful filling, but wish there was more soup inside.

Amazing dumplings and good vegetarian options. They opened recently. If you're a fan of dumplings, healthy and spicy szechuan food this is the place to go.

The braised beef noodle soup here is amazing! The broth is rich and fragrant, the beef is incredibly tender, and the noodles are perfectly springy. Every bite was pure comfort , absolutely delicious!

Summary: the food was good, but not sure I'd come back. + Their signature pan fried pork baos are delicious - perfectly fried exterior and sizeable filling of pork and soup. My only criticism is the price - at $15.50 it's $2-3 more than other restaurants I've been to. ± The braised beef noodle soup was good, nothing special but the beef was tender and noodles chewy (although a little too soft personally). ± Xiao long baos were okay - wouldn't get them again. They are dim-sum style in aluminum cups, which isn't my preference. - Service was meh - only ever checked on when we ordered and when we wanted the check. The restaurant wasn't even half-filled, but the waitress seemed to be busy talking to customers she was acquainted with. I guess you don't come to a Chinese restaurant for the service, but worth noting. - Tipping: please be aware the custom tip option is in Chinese. The lowest auto-tip option is 18%, which I think is ridiculous considering service was meh.

Stopped by Palette Tea House with The Kid after FoodieLand thinking we were just coming for tea... and ended up having a full experience. We sat at the communal high-top table in the center of the restaurant, which has a small pond built into it with little goldfish and even a tiny rubber duck sitting on the rock formation -- such a cute detail and definitely adds to the ambiance. Our server Ken was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He recommended the Iron Goddess tea, which ended up being excellent. The Kid ordered the Milk Aroma Oolong, which surprisingly tasted almost like milk tea even though it's just brewed tea. Each tea comes with its own kettle, and Ken even came back to refill the hot water for us. For food, we ordered the Wagyu Beef Fried Rice, which was a huge portion and easily shareable. Very flavorful and well prepared. We also tried the Sichuan Seafood Dumplings and the Iberico Pork Dumplings, both of which were delicious. One order is definitely enough to share. The dumplings come with several dipping sauces including soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, hot mustard, and a cilantro-based sauce that had a slightly sweet, horseradish-like flavor that really stood out. Service throughout the meal was amazing. Even without a reservation, we were seated immediately. As a Michelin-recognized restaurant for 2025, it definitely felt like a special treat and lived up to the experience.
