Great addition to the Chinatown food scene! There aren't that many AYCE BBQ places in Chicago and this was definitely one of the better options. We came by Jiang Niu for a weekend brunch and there were only a few tables. Jiang Niu seems relatively new. The menu is pretty extensive for meats, and they have a wide selection of sides and hot foods included in the AYCE price. For the price it's a pretty good deal. Service was super speedy and everything came out very quickly. They only let you order three meats at a time but that's fine since you can just keep reordering. The only issues are that they don't have fume hoods. Even with just a few tables in the restaurant it got really smokey. The grills get HOT. We should have been more attentive because we ended up burning some meat - it's definitely set hotter than other places I've been so make sure to keep watch! read more

Impressed. I mean you can pay $27.99 per person on Monday through Thursday but all other times it goes to $36.99 per person. Still not a bad deal, let me explain. We wanted to try Korean so here we go, the fact that Chinatown is expanding in taste makes me smile. I love the fact that his spot opened up in the location that it did. Right off of Canal, here it is! We started out with a Blue Moon Belgian White in what looks like a suspended glass carafe which held about 6 full glasses of beer. It was nice due to the fact that we didn't have to keep asking for beers. And we could go ahead and serve ourselves. This was a great date night. I'll now list some of the foods we ordered: Black pepper rib eye steak, fish fillets, prawns, rice, edamame, BBQ buddy (which consisted of a few beef tid bits), Kimchi (which is extra but only $1.50 more), premium blade beef, house marinated beef with fat, King oyster mushrooms (these were my only disappointment as they had absolutely no cohesion or taste from the other well seasoned meats and fish), seaweed soup (which once again was really good), also a spicy squid (but by then I was too full), spicy chicken slices cut from the thigh, and to end out date night we had probably the best smore's I've eaten yet. A small piece of Hershey's with 2 graham crackers and the most fluffiest of marshmallows. This was a very good ending, and we also order pineapple slices to add to the grill. I am thoroughly convinced that this will be a hit in Chicago and all over as this is what the south side needed. I no longer have to drive to the Northside of Chicago to get Korean barbeque, they have landed! The server, Sally L was a delight also, always making sure we were taken care of and answering any question that we had. I like that, this is perfection! Food itself was a mixed bag. Really good items were the seasoned beef short plate, garlic beef, and dongbei pickled cabbage. Some were decent but not stand-outs like the black pepper beef dice, house original beef, pork chop. Disappointments included the spicy tofu soup - flavor doesn't remotely taste authentic and the seafood pancake needs to be much crispier and not so soggy. Came in 2pm on a Sunday, it was not busy at all so we were seated right away! The initial time to set up took a little longer than I expected, but the servers were trying their best (: Our orders were done by pen and paper in the beginning and we had missing items, but once they were using the tablets nothing else messed up. Seafood soup: 6.4/10 nothing special about this soup. Comes with a shrimp and mainly tofu. Good starter Beef dice: 7.2 little beef cubes - tasted regular nothing to complain or be excited about Beef navel: 8.7/10 probably my favorite! Cooks fast and was full of flavor Beef tenderloin: 4.2/10 I ate this piece twice and each time I got a tendon unfortunately. Could not chew and swallow sadly. Pork belly: 7.5/10 good pork belly! $36.99 for an AYCE extensive menu with some things that can be added for a few bucks more. You don't really need to though because the AYCE menu has lotsa beef, pork, and chicken options + sides and there are stew options and bonchon. The table favorite was the garlic short rib - they don't limit you on how many times you can order something which is a plus. There's a boba place, ParTea, within the same complex and there's a kiosk for people to order their boba when they come in and ParTea will run it over to you - that def deserves a tip imo. Service for the bbq itself seems a bit odd to me because they have people taking the order and then the little robots delivering. It'd be most ideal to order on a tablet bc the servers are a bit hard to flag down when it's busy and not everyone is a server. They should also invest in some vents that go right above the grill because it gets REALLY smokey in there. read more

Aesthetic: The moment I walked in, I was like wow! I like the ambience. They also had a robot help serve which was super cool and cute. I was with a group of 4 and we ordered the AYCE option. We added the large Ferris wheel option which was affordable. It was only about $8 and split into 4 it was $2.00 each. They had Chinese songs playing all day and it was super nice. I really liked it inside. We just walked in. I tried to reserve but they only allow reservation up to 5 people so if you want to ensure seating, bring 5 people and call the restaurant. Food: The food was Hit or miss. They had a good selection. I liked how they had s'mores and even soup for all you can eat including a variety of seasoned meat. They gave you good portions so you can try a variety of meat. The soup was good and some of their meats are better than others so trying the menu would be a good idea. The grill does set on fire easily because of the sauces so highly recommend being careful unless you want to burn yourself in the process. It would have been a lot better to have 2 grills if there are 4 people because cooking would have been less hectic. Service: the service was not bad but I think there were times where they forgot about us. They didn't even change the grill until we asked them. They also grabbed the grill when it was on fire and didn't extinguish it and could have been a hazard but nothing happened so it's all good. but they were super nice and explained to us how things worked and even took a photo of us. I feel like it was just really busy. I wish they had those buttons you push when you need them so you don't have to wait as long. Overall, I had a good experience in this restaurant. The selection of all you can eat was good. They also had a good variety of add ons. The whole experience was nice and really cool. I highly suggest getting the Ferris wheel of food. It was super cool. There were many times where we set the grill on fire, which was definitely and experience and there are things that could have been improved but I was still happy with everything else at the end of the day and I will definitely still come back again when I have the chance. We LOVE eating at Jiang Niu BBQ! The servers are always sweet and the food is always good! Leaving one star because a server was very rude and unprofessional. We placed our last order of meet with our server and we were waiting and he comes and slam the bill down on the table and says "here's your bill". I was shocked and he looked at my face and started explaining we were past our 2 hour time limit. I explain to him we just put our last order in and we're waiting for that and then we just wanted to have s'mores for desert. He comes back with s'mores stuff just Thrown together. Our meat still didn't come. Grill is dirty. And at that point we were just disappointed and turned off. We paid and we left. These are some places you go for the food, and there are some places you go for the circuses. I have found a place that you can go for both. It's Jiang Niu. I feel there has been a proliferation of Korean BBQ places in Chicago, and sometimes it's hard to distinguish between them. Finding Jiang Niu was a great for many reasons. First, the experience this a a lot of fun. I was severed my meats to grill, not by a human, by a robot. It was so cool. Also, the meats to grill where stored at my table on real life Farris wheel. Second, the food was good. All of the meats and veggies that I grilled were fresh and delicious. Third, the staff was friendly and service was fast. Fourth, they have free indoor parking. The restaurant is located in China Town and parking in that area is very difficult. Their parking made my visit a breeze. In all, this is a must visit. read more

So disappointed! I love a good table side BBQ grill. I've seen multiple posts on Instagram and my friend also recommended this place. We went on a Sunday early evening after making a reservation. It wasn't packed but when we were leaving during prime time dinner time, it was starting to get packed. We ordered a variety of meat: House Marinated Beef, Black Pepper Beef Tenderloin Strip, Juicy Marinated Beef Navel, Premium Pork Belly, Spicy Pork Belly, Spicy Squid, and Shrimp. The reason for 3 stars is because the meat burns way too fast. We've changed grills, I've asked for temperature change, but the meat kept burning on the surface too fast prior to fully cooking. I thought perhaps it's because of the sweet marinade that burns fast, but it still happened with non-marinated pork belly meat. I'm not a fan of charred burnt meat. I had a good experience here. It's a ayce Chinese bbq place that has good quality meat. There's a good amount of selection where you can order things with different flavors and textures. It comes with 4 starters and the pickled radish was my favorite. Would recommend the juicy marinated beef navel and the fish fillet. The server changed the grill grate on request and brought food out quickly. Some of the food was delivered via robot, but that was slower than the server. Wasn't a huge fan of this place. :/ Made a reservation for 7 people for 8pm on a Friday night. Didn't seem super busy as there were still tables open. We all opted for the Premium AYCE, which is $35. My favorite items were the pork belly, garlic new york, and cheese corn. The worst part of this whole experience was the grill. The fire is either super weak or super wild where it engulfs your hand as you try to grill. It was also very uneven. Even after changing the grill twice, it didn't help much. I really wish they had beef brisket on the menu - a staple at major kbbq spots. The house beef and marinated beef were ooookay - nothing special. We also got the big ferris wheel which is an additional $8. You're just paying for the photo op essentially since all the items on the ferris wheel are part of the premium AYCE menu. Had tons of fun here - what a great experience and also delicious food! So cool to try Dongbei food for the first time too, with its unique mix of Chinese and Korean influences. While this is an all-you-can-eat BBQ place, the meat is surprisingly fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is also great, chic, and the robots are hilarious (pretty gimmicky since they still need waiters to handle the food on them). I don't know how people get the meat ferris wheel - we didn't see any when we went. Our favorite dishes were the house marinated beef and garlic beef slices. The smoky sour spinach and peanut salad was insanely good and a great palate cleanser. Perfectly tangy but meaty and crunchy. We did not like the dongbei bouncy egg slices - actually pretty bland and too filling (when your limit here is stomach space, not money!). I see the cheese corn is controversial here but we loved it! The sprinkles add a light sweetness (and fun) and the cheese adds a creaminess and saltiness. Overall we loved all the meats we tried. My only critique is that the servings are too big! If they were cut in half, then we'd be able to try more varied dishes. But I will definitely come here again - this will likely be a go-to whenever friends are in town! read more

This place is more hype than anything. It came up on my Instagram and looked really good so I wanted to try it out. All you can eat on the weekend is dinner price. They do have a good variety of menu items to choose from for the AYCE. Which was $34.99/pp. the price was great but I was not impressed with the food. It had no flavor whatsoever. We ordered a chicken, beef, and shrimp. The chocked said, marinated chicken on the menu but it was far from marinated. It didn't even have salt or pepper. It has no flavor. Same does for the shrimp. No flavor. Also the shrimp was not cleaned. It had the shell on as well. The beef wasn't seasoned and super fatty. There standard sides that come with Korean BBQ were absent. We got some collar greens and a couple other things. There was only one beef plate that had flavor but it was super fatty. The one thing on the menu that had flavor was the cheese corn. Although I have to say the corn had sprinkles which was really odd. Last, they should probably oil the grill everything was sticking to it. Especially the veggies. The zucchini and mushrooms came out dry. They had nothing on them, not reven oil. I didn't see a dessert menu. Parking, we found free street parking right up front. I like Korean BBQ and in my mind from past experiences the traditional theme is you get plenty of little side dishes that cover up the top of the table, a fire pit to grill you food with big plates of meat. Here at Jiang Niu, sounds like the theme I am use to but opposite. the little dishes are a minimal and the meat dishes are fairly miniature from the pictures you see on the menu. I did not do the buffet (all-u-can-eat) for $35 and you get a max time at 2.5 hours to eat. I went with the pictures on the menu with a soup, rice bowl and 2 dishes of meat. I also had 3 other guests with me and what I thought I ordered was enough for them, it turned out that the entire selection was good enough for one person. I realized then that maybe the buffet was the better option. Seems most people who comes here choose the buffet which might be the best option for them since the dishes are smaller than most Korean places I usually dine in. Parking was great and food was mediocre at best. Don't believe what you see on the menu. Think 50% smaller. read more

Went there for a birthday dinner to try a different all you can eat Korean bbq restaurants. Quickly met up with our group and were quickly give our seats. The staff were attentive and easy to get a hold of despite a bit of a crowd. Interesting selection of diverse meats and sides and a bunch of possible add-ons for an additional charge. We noticed an advertisement of a ferris wheel of meats on the wall and we're delighted that it was included in the AYCE. Unfortunately it is chef's choice so you don't know what you get until it arrives. There is a 2 hour dining limit and I believe they mentioned 2 meat order per person. We ordered the ferris wheel first and additional meats at the same time. The other meats came within 5 mins some by server and some by a robot waiter. The ferris wheel took about 15 to arrive and the portions were smaller than the meat orders (to accommodate the size of the wheel). To be honest the wheel is more for photos, social, and less on functionality/efficiency. I would recommend simply ordering the meats to keep up with the time limit. Interesting chop sticks with pieces of wood that you place on. Quality of the meat was fair. For the price of 35 per person I wasn't impressed. The "premium" pork belly felt lackluster. Our usual place for all you can eat Korean bbq is 25 a person and the quality and cuts are better. Jiang Niu BBQ is located in Chinatown at the Canal Plaza in Chicago, IL. They are known for their Chinese/Korean food as well as their all you can eat Korean bbq. They specialize in delicious BBQ made with the freshest ingredients. I found them on Instagram/Mikey Chen's YouTube channel and he was talking about how fresh and delicious each item was, so I went over there because of him. Mikey was not wrong at all because the Korean bbq meat and dishes came out so flavorful, delicious, and like a flavorful explosion in your mouth. One of the items I was so obsessed with was this meat bbq Ferris wheel. On the Ferris Wheel was some oysters, vegetables, and marinated meat. It's a great thing that the menu also has directions on how long to cook them for because I just eye balled how long things cook for. After everything was thrown on the grill, I seriously enjoyed how flavorful and authentic everything was. I love the interactive idea of the Ferris Wheel and it was just so cool spinning the wheel. That by far had to be the coolest thing I ever ate/coolest thing I've seen. The meat bbq Ferris wheel is a must get if you ever come by here. We also got some other dishes as well like the sweet potato pancakes, cheese corn, shrimp paste, etc and I got to say, they were addicting to eat! Out of the dishes, the sweet potato pancakes are my most recommended item because they were so crunchy on the outside but soft and I love the crust on them too. I would give zero stars if I could, the ingredients are terrible, and the buffet offers very few choices, more food that needs to be paid for separately, the soup tastes like instant noodles. Review for the delivery. They do not have a pandemic friendly delivery menu. The delivery options make this restaurant seem like a pescatarian restaurant. You cannot order delivery for the bbq or anything remotely related to bbq as of this review. It's almost like they expect you to provide your own bbq and you can order delivery for the sides. In fact, the one real filling thing on their delivery menu is the bi bim bop. The bi bim bop I ordered had fish flakes (or meat flakes??) for the protein. The choices of veggies for the rest of the bi bim bop were good I guess. Also ordered the seafood pancake which was a very soggy egg pancake with meager bits of shrimp. It's AYCE Chinese & Korean BBQ for $35 for weekends as well as BYOB which is a huge plus. I thought for the price, this place was slightly overpriced. I could go to Iron Age in Wicker Park and get a Korean BBQ (AYCE) meal for like $25-$27. Granted, the ambience is different here (more trendy and new looking). I don't know, overall our experience was ok. Some of the server's have a bit of a language barrier, but they mostly did understand us and came out to our table with the meat fairly quickly which was good. If you're looking for an authentic "Korean BBQ", this is not it. It's more of a mix between Chinese and Korean, and according to someone else I've talked to, resembles regional food from the Dongbei region of China. Would I go back? Yeah... maybe. But, $35 is a bit steep. I'm just happy that Chinatown has more food! read more

Came here when it was going crazy on TikTok. I feel like the place is overpriced if you compare it to Iron Age. The interior is nice instead and they have a cute clean cut interior design instead which is peaceful and not too chaotic like some bbq spots. The food quality when we went was good and the service was okay. I don't think our waitress really came back which we understood because it was a busy night. The food was delivered to our table via robot, and our server placed them on our table. The Meats we ordered was marinated well. When you get the buffet each person can order 2 meats and then whatever sides you want. If you get the ferris wheel I wouldn't order more than 2 additional meats if your 2px. Went a couple of weeks ago and I wasn't dazzled. The food was good but the service was subpar. It was a party of 4 and we ordered KBBQ stuff along with a Ferris wheel of stuff. The dishes came out at such a slow pace, we'd eat everything and just sit awkwardly to wait for the rest of our order to come out. It took forever for the Ferris wheel to come out. We continuously flagged down the servers to ask about our food and they kept saying "5 minutes". Looking around, other parties that came after us got their entire orders before us. Some even got the same items we ordered before we did, so we had to ask for rice and lettuce which we ordered at the beginning. The servers kept standing at the front where their register is and just chatted. They weren't attentive to the patrons. It wasn't busy at all. There were lots of empty tables. Had the all you can eat option for $34.99 for a friend's birthday. They were able to seat some of us before the rest of our party arrived. If you are needing a quick fix that is in the city I think this is just enough to fix your craving. The concept is kbbq where you grill your own food. However, the marinate was more Chinese flavoring. The soups are super plain like basically drinking water. Price point is a bit steep for just okay meat. It was cool they had the robot bring you food and the server comes and grab it off the robot for you. We didn't get the Ferris wheel :( Maybe we can get it the next time we go. read more

I've been a big fan of kbbq and have really great experiences in DC and northern Virginia, so I hoped for the same or better here in Chicago's Chinatown especially after seeing some impressive TikTok's. For one, there was no spinning wheel of food presented. There's a robot that is also suppose to come around with food that wasn't there either. The service was kinda eh, and the meat options were hit or miss. When we went, not everything tasted fresh, and they didn't already present with a lot of sides. They give you some spices for seasoning and expect you to season your own meat because nothing comes preseasoned. Because of that, everything kinda just tasted the same. We definitely ordered a lot of food for three people but we just weren't sold by the place, and for one of my friends, it was their first time having kbbq and they felt like it wasn't that great. Went here to celebrate a birthday. There were a few tables occupied on a Monday, but we sat as we got in. K-Pop was playing overhead on one of the screens while Women's FIFA World Cup was going on. Loved it and it did not take away from the service. Service was fast between the party of three. Did the Happy Hour AYCE, though the the menu was limited especially if you are pescatarian or vegetarian. You can cook the items yourself and it turned out great. My sister took us there for dinner. It was amazing! The food was delicious, perfectly prepared. All we had to do is grill it ourselves, and that was the best part! My nine year old daughter grilled and ate! Towards the end, she also got curly fries, which ended it all perfectly. Despite the long drive from Carpentersville, we will definitely come back again for this wonderful experience. We also got to keep their special chop sticks and the little tongues!
