They also had a Keurig coffee machine that was stocked which was good because I definitely needed some java after last night. But above all, they were professional and they delivered quick service. I'm reviewing Jiffy Lube in San Bruno. Date of Visit: Nov, 2010 4/7/2011 ---- I didn't read the Yelp review until my second visit of this location in April 2011. I was surprised by the extremely low rating and the negative reviews. However, both of my visit in these location was not as bad, at least I would say I had worse experience with the Jiffy Lube in the South Bay (in San Jose, Campbell...etc. To name a few) One of the reasons I feel comfortable coming back to this location is that, in both of my visits, I didn't experience any upselling as other Jiffy Lube I've been to before, or most other auto-shops. Perhaps their record shows that I have never done anything beyond their oil change services make them don't even bother to sell me other products? That I will never know. ---- Price: 3/5 ---- The signature oil change is $38, after tax and everything is about $41. Like many said, you can print the coupon online or they occasionally mail out coupon for the residents around the area. ---- Service: 3.5/5 ---- No upselling in both of my visit is a big plus. However, my 1st visit the wait time was only 20 to 25 minute, but the 2nd visit took them almost an hour. So I deducted some point on that, but overall the staffs are friendly. ---- Facility: 3/5 ---- The waiting area is clean and neat, which I believe most Jiffy Lube does maintain the cleanness of their waiting room. But this location has a smaller waiting area compare to the other locations I've been before. ---- Conclusion ---- Upselling in a chained shop like Jiffy Lube, Quality Oil is almost a guarantee, and they overcharge for the work they do is also for sure (Still lower than dealer, but much higher than independent shops). I used to trust chained shop like J.L before until I realize some of the suggestions they made are simply bogus. E.g. I once recommended by a shop that my tires need to be rotated, according to their "system". (And I was offered a discounted price) Except the fact that I just purchased those tires elsewhere, and had only couple hundred miles on them. E.g.2 I was once recommended to replace my PCI valve by a shop, except the technician didn't notice on their system that I did replaced that 3000 miles ago at the exact SAME shop! E.g3 I was recommended that my wiper blade needed to be replaced as the technician saw crack. Friendly and efficient service. Yesterday, I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. I appreciate that they don't try to up sell you on additional products or services, like the other chain service centers. This is my new go to place for the services they provide. The only area of improvement is the need to be more consistent with the free add-on services. I give this place 0 stars. I was very unhappy with my service. I came in for an oil change and was assisted by Richie, who seemed to be managing the cash register and tending to the oil changes. My first impression was that the staff here are young and it felt like high school kids running an auto shop. It seemed like they were fooling around and very unprofessional. Richie checked me in and I waited and expected that they would provide basic service. About 20-30 minutes later they said my car was finished. No one went over my car stats with me i.e. show me what level my fluids were before or after the service...something that is basic service when getting your oil changed. I paid for the service and drove out of the shop. I live less than 3 miles away from this Jiffy Lube and barely made it a mile away from the shop before my car filled up with fumes and the smell of burning oil. The inside of my car smelled so bad, I got a headache in those 5 minutes of being in the car. My car was smoking from the hood and from the back. It was so bad that I called the shop to complain and they said that there was probably excess oil that spilled when they topped off. They said to bring it back to the shop so they could clean it. When I brought it back I was assisted by Alfred. He and another guy sprayed my car down and cleaned it with de-greaser and water and said there was oil that spilled when they were filling up my car. I drove away once again. The next day as I was driving across the San Mateo Bridge smoke was coming out of my hood and the back of my car. The car once again filled up with the smell of burning oil. This time other drivers noticed the fumes and how badly my car was smoking and tried to alert me. I knew it was bad. I called Jiffy Lube once again to complain and they said to bring the car back in to the shop. My THIRD time returning to Jiffy Lube I brought my dad with me. We were assisted by the manager Paulo. Paulo took a closer look at the issue. He took out the dipstick and noticed that it was not at a full 8 quarts which is what my car usually takes after the oil is changed. He had to top off with 2.5 quarts of oil! Meaning that 2.5 quarts of oil spilled into my car engine and into the skip plate because they overfilled it and forgot to put the oil cap back on. There was so much oil that spilled out that it was being burned off and that was causing the smoke at the back of my car and the smell of burning oil inside my car. Paulo then spent an HOUR cleaning my engine and car of all the oil that had spilled. I was so livid with the poor quality of service I received from Jiffy Lube. I had to go back three times and wasted so much time for them to correct the issue. They are careless. Had they been paying attention and not fooling around light kids in high school auto shop the first time I was there, none of this would have happened. I had to deal with the smell of burning oil in my car for weeks afterwards. And who knows what long term damage it could have done to my engine. I recommend that you find another oil change spot. There are so many in the area. Save your self the time and energy. read more

Ultimately, I am emailing about the entire service and a young man named Eli. Our cars are driving beautifully and we were so impressed by the customer service. This is your average oil change place. The price is high for just an oil change. I didn't have a coupon. The "Jiffy" part of Jiffy Lube really only applies for the afternoon on a weekday. If you go on a weekend or during lunch, be prepared to wait an hour. I didn't experience the upsell like other reviewers, but it could have been there were plenty of other people waiting behind me and the employee was just in a rush. Don't do it!!!!! I used to take all my cars here until this very last time a couple months back. The person who did my oil change forgot to put all the screws back on the shield underneath my brand new car. Drove it on the freeway where the metal shield fell off and caused sparks and smoke under my car from scraping on the ground. Took my car to the dealers where I had to pay $250 just to get that piece replaced! Not too mention they told me that my car needed the break fluid replaced! Later found out that my car did not need that at all. That same day I checked the back of my car seats and the gentlemen had also smeared oil all over my beige seats! Very upsetting! read more

I come here to get my oil changed all the time. I'm not sure if it's a new manager or what, but not only was I never told to get out of my car, I was left sitting in the sun for 15 minutes. One of the employees literally had to go over and stand in front of this manager to get his attention when I asked him how long it would be. I think that this is ridiculous, and even then, I given a quote of 25 minutes, and had I know that I would have had to wait 15+ minutes, I would have just gone else where or elected to get my oil changed. So bad that I joined Yelp just to write this review. Worse experience I've ever had at a repair or service station of any kind. My mother's car needed a smog check. They said it failed, just failed. But neglected to mention that it passed the tests, and that it failed the visual inspection only. This is a high-pressure find something wrong with your car, at least two things. - Wait for it ... they'll say you car will break if you don't get the work done. - Pay in advance for parts and that's the last you'll hear from them. - All sweetness and light int he waiting room, BUT WAIT... - We'll have the part in two days at the outside. - Never hear from them again. - Call and can't get the manager when you ask for them. - Rude, insulting response to request to learn when the part is expected. - Answer - "We dont' know when the part will arrive" "Don't you understand that I ordered it! "I can't say when it will arrive". Would you call? "I said I ordered it" ...OMG, I can't believe the guy is angry at me for asking for a new part delivery date. Refused to call the parts store - What! - Next logical step, asked for a refund today. Owner said no, even though I paid in advance by credit card. Have you ever asked for a refund to be told no for an advance deposit! - Please, ladies, check for high rated alternatives. Great they charge $30 to come back for a visual check of work done... I should have asked that FIRST! What a MONEY PIT! Now I have to START ALL OVER at another station. $65 down the drain! They will start work on your car before you approve of it, and then tell you it'll cost much more. -- I tell them I want an oil change, which costs $37. -- They tell me to have a seat. -- They tell me that the only oil they have for my car is synthetic, and it'll cost $75. -- I say pass. -- They say that they already drained the oil. -- WTF? -- They argued that the reason they drain the oil before the customer approves of it is to speed up the process. -- I said fine, but they should realize (based on their inventory) which cars will require premium (expensive) product for before the drain the oil. -- They tried to blame it back on me. Seriously? -- I said I wanted to leave and they needed to do something about my empty oil pan. -- They offered a small discount. -- I declined. -- They offered a heavier weight conventional oil than what's recommended. -- I declined. -- They offered a slightly larger discount. -- I repeated my desire to leave, and that they needed to do something about it. -- They again mentioned the discount, and again mentioned the option of using a non-recommended weight of conventional oil. -- After a bit of a stalemate, I told them I was initially going to go to the dealer, which charges $55, and that the sole reason why I chose Jiffy Lube was to save a few bucks. I told them that if they did the work with the synthetic and matched that price, that I'd go ahead and authorize the oil change. -- They agreed. But they didn't seem too happy about it. Maybe that'll teach them to get a customer's authorization before starting any irreversible work. Meanwhile, another customer there was irate that he was quoted that his vehicle would take 20 minutes, but it was taking much longer, making him late for work. The unapologetically replied that it would be 10 more minutes. Poor guy, I hope his employer is understanding. I used to come here regularly several years ago, and never had any problems. This time around has left me quite bitter. I was tempted to leave a single star, but I gave two since they at least lowered the price to match that of the dealer. read more

Can you give NEGATIVE stars? i've been a JiffyLube customer for more than fifteen years, but after my visit to this facility and talking to a few friends who'd been there I will never go to JL again, ever. They changed my oil and my antifreeze. Within an hour my engine was overheating. I lived 25 miles away and the local JL would not do anything, I had to take it back to San Bruno. I decided to go to the Toyota Dealer instead, who said they didn't bleed the system properly, and charged me $150 to do it right. Then I took the car to wash it and the attendant wouldn't let me put it on the rack because something was hanging down below the car. It turned out that the guard plate under the car was bent, hanging down, and held in place by zip ties. The toyota dealer did not even put the car on the rack, so this happened AT JIFFY LUBE. I should have known they took forever to finish the job, they didn't now how to do it. I ended up spending $450 to repair the damage they did, and JL corporate did not respond to email, site messages, or snail mail, The JL at San Bruno would not call me back or discuss the complaint. I finally got my money back after I went to BBB and the state regulatory agency for auto servicers. My friend said he was more naive, he had his oil changed and a week later his car ran out of oil due to incorrectly installed plug in the drain pan. A month later his engine seized up due to running dry. Well partly his fault but mostly if they did the job correctly he'd have the car today. Pay the extra $20 and take your car to the dealer! It's not worth the risk. And the San Bruno JL is to be avoided at ALL COSTS! read more

As a result, my car ended up with an oil leak because of the failure of the crush washer on the oil drain plug. (Not sure if they didn't replace the washer, over-tightened it, or both.) Went to jiffy lube yesterday and instantly received great customer service from two young men. John was able to give me an estimate on how long it would take and before you know it, it was done. Was able to get in a quick word with David after he finished up on my car and I can easily say he was one of the most polite employees I've ever seen in any business. I've been here twice for a routine oil change & they did a thorough job checking all that needed to be checked - transmission fluid, water, and they even vaccuum your floors. I went here to get a oil change and ended up just getting a few other things fixed that I was talked into getting done. They were done fairly quick. Everything was working great and I went home. The next morning, I turned on my car and the check engine light came on. I called them and asked if there was anyway they could've knocked something out of place and if they could take a look. The man said I could bring it back after I got a diagnostic check on the check engine light. I went and got my car checked at an auto parts store and they printed out the paperwork stating what caused the light to turn on. I went straight to this jiffy lube location, told them I called, got the diagnostic test and would like them to look at the paperwork to see if anything that they may have done by mistake to cause my check engine light to turn on. They took my 6 papers flipped through them, tossed them back at me in less than a minute, and told me it wasn't their problem. I had to go to my mechanic. I was very concerned so I took my car into my mechanic. This morning my mechanic called me and said without a doubt in his mind, this problem was their fault. They knocked a hose out of place when they were changing my oil and topping off my transmission fluid. This problem could've been fixed in minutes but they wouldn't even take the time to look at my car when they weren't busy. As a young woman, I feel taken advantage of and I wouldn't go back. I'm done with this bunch for good. We have a fleet of vans and sometimes I need a quick change-and-go, so we wind up here. But last time they finished the van, pulled it out on the the driveway, and left it. But no one came to the counter to check me out. I waited a while, then walked out and found the manager/supervisor, who was BSing with another employee. I asked if I could pay and leave, and he yelled--You're not the only customer we have here--I'll be with you in a while!" It was really uncalled for, if they don't appreciate my business and can't take a minute to swipe my credit card and get me on my way, then I'll find someone who will. read more

Got checked in and waited to get a quote to have an oil change done. Reasonable wait time. There was no coffee as offered by one of the members. One or two of the workers we had contact with seemed hurried and distraught. Only one was friendly. When the job was done, pulled the car over and popped the hood open to find two of the fluid containers caps open. This service include fluid top off, however not satisfied with the quality of work. I brought my car here with the intention of leaving it for awhile, giving them plenty of time to work on it. A friend came with me in his car and we planned on leaving together for a short time. There was no office manager, apparently one of the car workers fills this position as he has time. A car worker told me he could not ring me up until he finished working on the two cars in the stalls. In about twenty minutes he finally put my info into the computer and I handed him a valid discount coupon. I returned with my friend about a half hour later. A different car worker checked me out on the computer but did not include the discount coupon. Even though the issue was resolved this was overall a very unpleasant experience. The workers seem harried, sullen and over worked. Perhaps they were getting too much business because of the discount coupons and they just couldn't handle the increased volume. read more

I went to this Jiffy Lube last weekend because I was in the area and had some time to kill. They overfilled the oil by quite a bit (dipstick is well above the "Full" mark), and managed to lose a couple of valve stem caps. One looked like it was simply pushed back onto the valve instead of screwed on! Luckily nothing is leaking (yet). And they managed to screw the oil filler cap back on correctly. Oh, and my windshield was spotless! I won't be returning for an oil change any time soon. I'll let them clean my windshield... that's about it.
