After a full day at Universal Studios, we decided to stop by Margaritaville at Universal City Walk to avoid rush hour traffic congestion. It turned out to be an excellent idea. We happened to be there during Happy Hour. Happy Hour is M-F from 2-6pm. We ordered Margarita and Landshark Lager beer. They were both good. They were cold and refreshing. We also had shrimp tacos, cheeseburger and nachos from their happy hour menu. They were all delicious. The food came out quickly. My only complaint is that we do have to sit at the bar area to take advantage of the happy hour menu and pricing. I think it would have been more comfortable to sit at the main dining room area instead of cramming everyone at the bar counter while the rest of the restaurant was empty. read more

I really wanted to like this place much more considering how we were so excited to finally try it, of course the video where someone did a dining tour of every single one, and this is the only location in California. We came here on a Friday for lunch and we were seated immediately. Not that many other customers so service was pretty attentive and was there whenever we needed a water refill. I do have to say the theming of the restaurant is on point and I felt more at a tropical getaway at a beach than I did in an urban cement hellscape which is super nice. There is A LOT to look at from the decor on the walls and even on the ceiling, the tropical "birds", beach set pieces, pictures of Jimmy himself and much more. However, I do think it being a weekday lunch contributed to a bit of how bland everything was since it looks like it can be popping on a weekend night or when there's a live band playing on their stage. As for the food, I think this was a tad disappointing. If you stripped away the theming, I would not be able to tell this restaurant apart from any of the much more common, cheaper sit down restaurant franchises out there. I guess, never keep expectations too high, or at the very least with the "themed" restaurants in the US, it's just the decor and aesthetics and not necessarily the menu. I don't drink, but the others who did said their margaritas were decent. Nothing to write home about and similar to what they could possibly get elsewhere. I do have to say that they have a limited drink menu based on the Fan Fest Nights. My boyfriend got the Jurassic Park themed one and said it was a tad too sweet, but overall just a standard fruity alcoholic drink. I got a non-alcoholic pina colada and it tastes like a yummy pineapple coconut creamy slush. Not bad, but not substantial either. I got poke nachos and my friend got a poke bowl and it's literally the same poke but just with different carbs. Overall, it was mediocre at best. Can't really compare to places that do their own poke bowls, but the amount of tuna was not that much and I'll be honest, I wish there was at least a little more variety to this (choosing the protein for the poke, but alas). Other than that, the menu has the standard affair of pasta, Mexican dishes, chicken, salad, burgers, etc. Almost $200 for 4 people, so it was already a pricey start to the day and the fact that it was for just okay food that can easily be found elsewhere, I think I'd skip dining here unless it was super lively or there was more seasonal menu items. read more

Don't come here !! We decided to come here for happy hour and check it out but big mistake !!! We got the chicken tenders:o it came with only 3 tiny pieces and 1 was not cooked right !!! We also ordered the nachos and as well the food was very disappointing! The nachos were cold and the guacamole on top looked days old !! We also got the coconut shrimp for happy hour and since when is 4 dipped coconut shrimp equivalent to $10 oh good. What a great restaurant at the Universal city walk. We came here two days ago and we arrived right after they opened. This restaurant I believe has been open approximately 10 years. We found out from the waiter (John) who was fantastic that they just changed several menu items, and I was the very first to try the CIP smasburger. It was a brand new item. My friend was also the first to try the brand new Tuna Poke bowl. My burger was huge and super tasty with two smashed patties, cheese, and caramelized onions, and her tuna came with ahi tuna, coconut island rice, and avocado, and both meals were amazing. We got to meet the general manager (Donald), the head chef (Damian) as well. We probably chatted with both of them for 15 minutes. Super nice, and may I say cool individuals. We loved this restaurant and the customer support ... top notch. We will come back in a couple months and try some new dishes. They validate parking as well up to 3.5 hours. First timer at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville & it was an awesome time! This restaurant has a fun, carefree, summer vacation energy, the whole place leans into tropical vibes - palm trees, bright colors, and summery music, it's slightly cheesy but in a good way. All the food & drinks we tried were fun & festive. The Ahi Tuna Poke Nachos were surprisingly delicious & tasty, the tuna was very fresh. As someone who isn't crazy about alcoholic beverages, I have to say all the drinks we tried were actually good & fun to sip on with our meals! I felt it would be wrong to visit margaritaville & not get a margarita, my favorite was the blue lagoon, it wasn't overly sweet as some cocktails can be. I have to mention the amazing service provided to us by our waiter Ben. Ben was kind, fun, interactive & brought the best energy. I feel so lucky that we got to have him as our waiter. Had the most wonderful and fun dining experience at Margaritaville, especially due to the great service from our server Ben! His enthusiasm and energy were so uplifting and I'm so glad we had the chance to meet him. This was my first time dining here and I left the restaurant already wanting to plan my next visit. I'll admit, I'm generally a sucker for a themed restaurant, and the ambience at Margaritaville was pure tropical and island fun. The decor was spot on and I felt transported to a kitschy (in the best way!) resort. It was a little slower as we went on a Tuesday night, but definitely still lively. For drinks, I sampled the Blue Lagoon, the Green Iguana, and the Lava Flow. Out of these three, I enjoyed the Lava Flow the most as I tend to prefer a milder alcohol taste. Food wise, I was able to try the Volcano Nachos, Ahi Poke Nachos, Beyond Burger Paradise, Cheeseburger in Paradise, and Cheesy Garlic Bread. Everything was absolutely delicious, though I will say there was a bit of a mix up in the kitchen and some of the modifications we had requested were not fulfilled. Still, these were promptly corrected when brought to the attention of the food runners, and everyone was content with their meals in the end. My favorite bites were definitely the Ahi Poke Nachos, which were so fresh and had a great flavor/texture to them, and the Beyond Burger, which was delicious paired with french fries and ranch! As we were celebrating a birthday, Ben brought out a cute little sundae and some extra cherries for the table, which I thought was very sweet and much appreciated. This review is a very long time coming and I have lots to say...all positive things, though! Of course we're all familiar with the song, right? Heard it my whole life and knew the restaurant was here but it's just a little out of the way from where I live in Whittier and I hadn't really been out to this area much until the past two years that my girlfriend and I became Universal Pass holders. We always enjoy trying different restaurants and it's very seldom that we find a place that genuinely wows us, but this place did just that. Wendy has always been at the host stand ready to welcome us in enthusiastically and John had waited on us almost each time we've dined here and he's just the nicest, easygoing, and talkative dude around. He's always ready to give his opinions on the different food options available and to see what we may be in the mood for on any given visit. Usually I'm just a burger guy, and the burgers are always good here, but I also really enjoy jambalaya and it's very hard to find a good jambalaya dish out here. Well, it just so happened that I had made chef Damian's acquaintance during one of my visits here and we had a nice chat and bonded over the fact that my late father's name was Damian and spelt the same way. He was a very nice man and to make our first trip memorable, he came out and gave us fried pickles on the house when he heard my girlfriend tell him about how much I love pickles. Then I ordered the jambalaya and I was floored. It's easily my favorite jambalaya dish out there. Great serving size, excellent flavor and the spice is just right. On visits afterward, he would come to remember us and is always very warm and talkative. This last time, he told us about the new smash burger on the menu and I was reluctant to try it out, because I tried smash burgers at a place near my home called For the Win and it was just bland and overpriced. Chef Damian let me know that his are different and he could promise that the flavor is indeed there. Well, he went ahead and sent out a complimentary burger for my girlfriend and I to share and guess what? It's a solid gold burg. I cannot sing my praises for this establishment enough. The pasta is terrific, the burgers always hit, jambalaya never misses, and now I can add to this that the smash burgers are pretty supreme. Time to Margaritaville with a Cadillac margarita. This was an impromptu visit here. The wait on a Saturday night around 7 PM was only about 25 minutes, but we decided to sit at the bar. The bar area was full, but that area also includes the outdoor patio, which is where we sat. The wait and service was a bit slow in that back area, so I ended up going to the bar myself to order drinks and food. All great from that point on. We we're presently surprised how good every thing was as far as the food goes. The fish and chips - fish was meaty and the fries were crispy and well seasoned. The batter to the fish was not thick at all, which is what I prefer. The buttery garlic bread was good as well and not oily at all with a side of the marinara sauce. Excellent. I thought the house salad on the side was a little lacking. It had mostly white parts of the lettuce and no croutons. And the star being the Cadillac, Margarita was an A+. This was almost identical to Cabo Wabo's Cadillac margarita which we can never seem to find that same. Taste anywhere else. Bravo on this Margaritaville! Ambiance was fun and relaxing with tons of props for a tiki tropical vibe. Servers were friendly and checked in on us often. I love Margaritaville so much. This is the third location I've been to, after the Orlando and New York City outposts, and it's just such a pleasure to hang out within its walls. We showed up around 3:30 on a weekday and the place was far from packed, so we grabbed a spot at the bar and perused the Happy Hour menu. Obviously I had to get the Perfect Margarita ("Margaritaville gold and silver tequila, triple sec, orange curacao, freshly squeezed lime juice, and agave nectar served on the rocks. For margarita aficionados only"), since I've had it before and it's never disappointed. I sure wasn't disappointed this time, either. It really is a perfect margarita; it's got the ideal balance of the sweet and the salty, and it's just such a refreshing beverage. I wound up ordering three and they were all stellar. We also shared an order of the Chips and Salsa ("Fire-roasted tomato salsa and tortilla chips"), and they were terrific. The nachos tasted fresh and weren't too salty, while the salsa was perfectly assembled and contained a good level of heat. Our two servers were excellent, too. We had our department lunch retreat at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville on a Saturday before noon. It was everyone's first time at this restaurant. Reservation was made and as soon as we arrived we were seated. The host was friendly and courteous. As soon as we were seated our waitress Merry came over and welcomed us. Merry was excellent. She provided excellent customer service. She asked if any of us had food allergies so she can inform the kitchen. Love how considerate and aware Merry is of people with food allergies. We were a party of 13 so it was a good size group. I don't remember what everyone ordered however, I ordered the Grilled Chicken Breast. It was marinated and seasoned with special blend of spices, mango salsa, island coconut rice and fire-roasted corn. It was good and flavorful. The chicken was not overcooked. My friend and co worker ordered the Caribbean Blackened Salmon with mixed greens, avocado, cucumbers, mango, red peppers, queso fresco, crispy tortilla strips, passion fruit vinaigrette. She gave me some as it was plentiful for her. The servings were huge servings. The Caribbean Blackened Salmon was good. I look forward to eating here again to try other food items on their menu. We've eaten at almost every restaurant at Universal Citywalk except this one. So glad we finally stopped by. The food and service were great! It was pretty empty when we arrived, but that's fine cuz no wait whatsoever and we got to sit in one of their booths. They're located on the other side of Citywalk past the AMC theater and close to the Curious George parking lot. We ordered the Margaritas Flight, Strawberry Daiquri mocktail, burrito bowl, & shrimp po boy. Also got side orders of potato waffle fries with ranch sauce. Their ranch sauce is delicious! It took about 20 minutes to park and get here but luckily, it was past the crowded time so we were immediately sat. We told our waitress that we had a movie soon and she promptly took our drink and food order. We got the famous margaritas and we were a bit disappointed that we couldn't taste the tequila. Fried pickles were perfect. Not too thick and just enough batter. As other reviews mentioned, the onion rings were ok definitely too much batter. The real gem was the Beach Club sandwich and the Cheeseburger in Paradise! The Cuban sandwich was average and the Veggie Sandwich was a delicious lite option. Buffalo wings were good but portion could have been a little bigger. Cheesy garlic bread was delicious but only enough for two people to share, not 4. The Chocolate Brownie Sundae was a bit disappointing. Very little chocolate sauce over it. Basically a brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Stopped by with my parents after visiting Universal Studios in the beginning of December. It was a little busy and there was a slight wait for a table so we decided to sit at the bar. It was the best choice because the bartender Will was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. He makes you not want to leave! Very attentive, extremely personable, great humor, quick and efficient and we could see he was like that with everyone at the bar. For food, we ordered the lava shrimp, Buffalo wings and fish tacos (that also came with a side of beans and rice). Shrimp wasn't too spicy to me, but everything tasted really good. I want to say the service was dismal, but they at least did it politely... kinda. Watching the hostesses call a customer a bi$&h after she left should've been a hint, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt since I didn't see the initial incident. I brought my family of five in after the park closed at 20:00. At 20:30 only five or six tables had people seated, and there were twice as many unoccupied tables. We sat for over 30 mins, tired and hungry. No one left the restaurant during this time. Eventually a table that had been sitting empty this entire time, was dressed for dining and we were finally seated. More families came in, and now I watch as they wait. We haven't received our food yet and I already felt prompted to comment. Nearly an hour since I walked in the door, and all we have is ice water so far. We choose Margaritaville pretty often when we travel, and have never felt like we were being ignored before.... Oh great. As I'm writing this review the hostess opened up a huge sliding glass door, immediately adjacent to our table, and cold air is pouring in on us. It's almost 21:30 and now my family is cold. Asking the hostess to close the door got a smug response and she slid it about 1 foot and walked away. Thank god for our server. She understood how we felt and offered us a new table without us requesting. She was really sweet and seemed to care a bit more. Now here for over an hour, have a new table, have a new server, still only have my ice water. I'm banking on past experience that hopefully the food is as remembered. I'll only update this post if the food disappoints. Edit/update: pics for reference. Looks like they rest the burger on a bed of wet lettuce. Couldn't even pick up the burger at first. We came here for a late dinner after Universal Studios on a Sunday night and the restaurant was virtually empty. But it was clean and the service was friendly and prompt. Appreciated the music playing wasn't loud and the food was good enough with large portion sizes. Definitely a better option than eating inside the park. Except, the place seemed short staffed. It took 20 minutes for our server to address the table. It took another 40 minutes to get food, and the order was not correct. The waiter was all over the place. Nice guy it seemed, but always literally on the run. Manager was apologetic and helpful but there is only so much you can do, I guess, when you are so understaffed. The nail in the coffin was the man's bathroom. Puke in the urinal, paper towels and who knows what all over the floor, trash overflowing, and one of the sinks out of order. I wish a band was playing in person when we were there, but they had the tvs playing Jimmy Buffett, so that was nice. Our waitress was kind and helpful and patient with us. At first, I ordered the mini quesadilla, but my s/o asked our server Devin if there was anything he recommended and really sold us on the chicken tacos with a side of pico- We ended up ordering it and absolutely loving it!! Not a bad place to grab an app and drinks before a movie especially if you get there for their happy hour. As a vegan they don't really have many options so I usually just get the chips, salsa and guac. I appreciate that they have at least that. That being said their chips are pretty good.
