So this place attracts cougars, eh? I didn't see much of them last night, but I found it hilarious when I read that observation from other reviews. We got there at 11:00-ish last night and this place was packed! We were walking sideways and I had to hold on to my buddy so we didn't lose each other in the crowd. The music was old hip hop mixed with some newer beats, the usual stuff I'd definitely dance to (and did after a few cocktails!). We met some fun people at Jimmy O's last night and everyone seemed so friendly. It was a different vibe compared to the Gaslamp crowd I was used to, but a good one. I felt welcomed here that I'd go back, there's way less attitude here all around compared to the punk door guys that are multiplying in downtown. You know those bars that are full of intoxicated college kids acting ridiculous & looking for an easy hook-up? This place is kinda like that except the "college kids" are actually 30-somethings trying to relive their university days. Late night, this place is loud, crowded, and filled to the brim with characters. People-watching is prime and overall it's pretty entertaining. If you are looking for a sports bar with pretty good bar food then Jimmy O's is a great place. Sunday football is always packed in there, and has a pretty good crowd. Loving talking with the regulars there, and the service is good as well. Jimmy O's changes later in the evening to more of a night club scene. The crowd gets younger and the music is pumping. If you are in the mood to dance, this is the place to go in Del Mar. You might even find some young thing to dance with, lol. Alrighty, so my friends and I, admittedly, were on the hunt for cougars. Sure, I know, what a bad thing to say. But what can I say?! Unfortunately, while we did spot a few cougars, it was a sausage fest. Probably about 5 guys to 1 girl. The drink prices were on the pricey range considering, I said I wanted a red bull vodka and they gave me some cheap vodka and charged quite a lot for a small cup. On the plus side, while no dance floor really existed, the music was pretty decent and the vibe was chill. And for those itching for a bite during, the patio hosted a taco bar which wasn't too bad. Parking, like a lot of people, can be a challenge. The staff was friendly and the bouncers didn't act like the ones you find in downtown (at clubs and bars of which I will not name). At night - the music is pretty great, definatly danceable, and there are so many friendly good looking people around. The drinks (although all were free to me) are reasonably priced. Cool sports bar find right near the beach in Del Mar. I came here on final four Saturday, and the place was packed. Luckily, it was 3 seconds from the end of the game (RIP Buckeyes), and we only had to wait a few minutes to get a table. The hamburgers were AWESOME! I was very happy on that. The beers were $4.50, which I don't know if that is a special or not, but it was a nice surprise. It was pretty busy, and I guess later in the evening people get their drink on and dance, so they were clearing out tables around 9:30. Other than that, pretty typically sports bar. Very loud. Been to this place once before for their late night and thought I'd give it another shot but same experience both times - Music is trash. Service is trash. Attracts the most rude/snobby people. If you're into that kind of crowd then this place is just for you. And bartenders NEED to step it up because they definitely seem like they don't wanna be there. Put on a face on or quit the damn job. Their attitude kills it. And it's nearly impossible to dance/move when the lines are so backed up for drinks. You're either frustrated trying to find space or that one person not caring bumping into everyone and their mom dancing. Visited this bar a few times and had so so experiences. The drinks are good, but it always feels like there is a huge amount of staff always walking around. To my amazement this has not correlated to better service. It's the best bar in Del Mar, but wouldn't last anywhere else. Excellent location right between the plaza and the beach. read more

While visiting the area I visited Jimmy O's to watch NFL Sunday ticket. Great set up to watch football with 8 large TV 's lined up in a row above the bar. Service was excellent. Great job Jenna!! I'm in shock by the negative reviews! This is such a fun place and the waiters and bartenders are really nice peeps! Its a really chill place to go and have a drink and watch a game. I have fun day or night. The crowd is an older crowd during the day and at night its a younger crowd in their late twenties to cougars. Well Del Mar in general is a total cougar town. Weekend nights they take out the tables and it becomes a club with bouncers. Same thing at night everyone is pretty layback nice. I do have just one suggestion, please bring back breakfast to Jimmys!! I went to watch an early game last weekend and no breakfast was being served. Beer and Tequila at 10am threw my digestive system off lol. I give Jimmys a five star! read more

Solid sports bar that sits comfortably in the A-OK category for me. Fish tacos were great (as reported by my boyfriend) and they looked divine. Perfectly flaky. Nothing really on the menu for vegetarians save for the house salad (and a big old pass should be taken on the dressing -- blegh -- vinaigrettes should not be so sweet). But they have decent beer and a full bar and the place is seriously set up to watch some games. The owner (?) seems to be there every night we are, and he knows almost everyone who walks in his door. The staff always gives a friendly, hearty welcome, and gives you your choice of booth, table (facing the TVs), or bar. Great place to watch the Blackhawks games (full sound and main screen), and I'd imagine if you just started showing up for whichever sport/team you wanted, they'd probably start accommodating you, too. read more

Totally packed with college kids, inaccessible bar. The people who were here the night I went for a bachelor party were the type to ignore you totally and then act like they're your best friends when you get a table with bottle service. Server's were great with bottle service but were pretty much pissed at every other patron in there. $220 for bottle service of Sky vodka (750ml) -- eh. Even all that liquor couldn't make me like the place. That said, you might love it. This place really does not deserve two stars. We went there on a beautiful Sunday hoping to enjoy some good food on the patio. We were ignored for 30 minutes and our waitress had the worst attitude. She acted like she wanted to be somewhere else. Our drinks were good but it took 40 minutes to get our food and the food was nasty. The only thing positive were the young men bringing out the food; super nice. We needed refills and water, I had to go to the bar a few inches away to get them. We had to flag down our waitress to take our plates and give us our bill. I can honestly say I will never be back and strongly encourage others to rethink; there are other restaurants in that area that are much better. read more

I walk by this place all the time, but it is only my second time going inside. The first time was for a friend's birthday party at night, and in between many shots and margaritas, I can't pretend that I remembered much except for the fact that I had fun. So, this time, we decided to try the food. I started with a Pacific Classic, or a margarita, Jimmy o's has a nice selection of mixed drinks for less than 10 bucks each. Most of the drinks I recognized, but their names were changed to protect the innocent ; ) The chips and salsa were very good, and the ahi appetizer was absolutely amazing! I also really liked the lobster bisque although the waitress warned me that some feel it is too salty. After a few salads, (the strawberry fields is awesome) and some French fries, we were stuffed, but we'll be back to try more! The patio is also dog friendly! read more

This place is ridiculous! Definitely not a bar for a 21 year old, that is for sure. I was just surrounded by cougars and old men, older couples getting down to jazz re-mixes and Michael Jackson, and sleazy old guys just sitting at the bar, preying for bait. My cocktails were on the pricy side (7.50) but they were strong. The only reason I'm not giving them two stars is because a) their bouncer was really funny, and b)they're food was AMAZING and cheap. We went on a Thursday and I guess they have happy hour all night long from Monday to Thursday (awesome). I got fried crab and ahi stuffed mushrooms for four bucks! My boyfriend got a huge plate of carne asada nachos for only 7. This was awesome considering it was 10:30 and we were starving for some food and alcohol. Just one of those nights. Fun place espically during a happening night where this place is more like a small night club in the heart of del mar rather than a sports bar in which it is advertised as. During the week this nice little side bar off the main drag makes for a great spot to just sit back with a beer and see what happened with the games I missed. When its a friday or saturday night and this place is jumping like a night club the atmosphere is just fun - at least for me. It can get a bit crowded, my last venture into this place was for the Opening Day Pre-Party for the Del Mar races 2010....it was a mix of the young and fashionable along with a good mix of cougars to add to the eye candy. Drink pricing is pretty comparable to most other bars/clubs in the area (and there are really only a couple of others) Still it makes for an intresting night and sometimes the place to go for the evening Be prepared for looking for parking it can be a bit tough at times depending on when you go read more

This is a pretty good beach bar. You can get away with wearing just about anything because it's a mixed bag of beach hippies and racetrack goers. This place got packed once we left at 10 since we arrived at 8:30ish. Upon entering you get a slight musky/mildew smell which was a little off putting. Plastic surgeons should come here to admire their handy work. More plastic rolling around this place than a recycling center! Cat family strikes again with cougars in mass abundance. The service was great. However, I did order cactus cooler shots for the birthday girl and ended up getting vodka red bulls. Hmm. The DJ was spot on and happily played my requests in a timely manner. Well what can i say? We used to love and rave about this place. We went for dinner and everything seemed filthy inside. We opted for an outside table instead and there it was...a massive cockroach. That was enough to send us on our way. It doesnt cost much to use some soap and water and a little elbow grease. Come on take some pride. I only came here for dinner and to watch a Lakers game (on a Friday) so I don't know anything about its nightlife or how the late night crowd is. Much to my boyfriend's disappointment, there were no cougars during this time haha (we were there from 7:30-10:00ish) although there was a group of girls next to us loudly trying to figure out who each one had slept with the night before (future cougs). This place must transform around 10:00/11:00 pm because when we were there it was mostly families with young kids, old couples, and groups of older men. It's in a good location, good for watching sports, and definitely has a down-to-earth feel. The nachos were sooooooooo good (better than most bars). The staff was welcoming as we walked in and very attentive throughout the night. Next time we will check it out after 10 pm! read more

I love this place. The only thing that sucked about it was the bathrooms (gross!!) so minus one star for that. And what's with the cougar thing? LOL! I came in here 2 weeks ago and my husband and I are the oldest people at the bar. That being said, I am 31 and he is 36. We come here too to see our favorite bartender, the gorgeous Jenny. We get a kick hearing the lamest pick up lines used on her. Maybe that's why she's no longer there =(. The chicken wings are tasty and their service is above average.
