    Mini beef plate lunch
    Jennifer W.

Jireh Hawaiian BBQ was just okay, I was not expecting much because the name is not Hawaiian, no letter "j" in the Hawaiian language. But what went well was the portion size and taste. I ordered the mini beef plate lunch with one scoop rice, scoop Mac salad and cabbage. The beef was tender and not chewy it was well marinated but the fat was not skimmed off before cooking as it left a gritty texture. The Chicken Katsu bowl was a nice size, sadly the katsu sauce was not a traditional katsu sauce, it was sweet and sour sauce. It needs a bottle of Bulldog katsu sauce. Place was clean and service was great. Value was worth the stop. My homemade Katsu sauce: cup ketchup (more to taste) ¼ cup lightly packed brown sugar 3 tablespoons shoyu 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1/2 tablespoon oyster sauce Simmer medium heat for a few minutes and let cool. Ono katsu dipping sauce add or delete salt, Cayenne pepper and oyster sauce to make it your own taste.

Hawaiian BBQ on Katella, west of Los Alamitos Blvd. and east of the 605 Freeway. Can't to wrong with his place.

Service was great. Food was delicious. We will be back. My hubby had the No. 3 - mixed combo and I had the bbq chicken bowl for $8.49. So much food! I ate half and saved the other half for tomorrow's lunch. We used to go to Downey for Hawaiian food. No more. Jireh is less than two miles away. It's our new Hawaiian place.

    Plate lunch specials.

Service was quick and friendly. You order at the counter then help yourself to water, Katsu and Teriyaki sauce at the end of the counter. The vibe is Hawaiian style, so casual and easy going. The food tastes great and the portions are large.

Tasty Hawaiian BBQ in Los Alamitos with large portions and low prices. Friendly staff. We ordered the mini plates to go and they were much more than mini! Will definitely go back. Mac salad is legit.

I'd never been there before, so this review is all about first impressions. As we approached, the sign caught my attention: "Under New Ownership." Outside, an employee sat scrolling on his phone. It was a quiet Sunday around 3 PM, and we were the only patrons in sight. Checking Yelp beforehand had been a bit of a letdown, as their menu featured items they no longer offer. No links were available either. We ordered half a pound of pulled pork, half a pound of brisket, and four pieces of cornbread--all priced reasonably. Their tap selection turned out to be decent. The Cali Squeeze Blood Orange was a standout, and they also seemed to carry Firestone Walker products, including 805. The staff were friendly and responsive, which was refreshing. While the brisket had cooled by the time we got home, it was still tender and flavorful--just like the pulled pork. The real surprise? The chimichurri that accompanied the brisket--an unexpected and delightful touch. Overall, I'd rate the experience as average. While it's clear they've got potential, a bit more effort could turn Wholly Smokes into a go-to spot. Leaning in on those small details would really elevate the experience.
