In late January 2021, JJ&B Pools was hired by our realtor to do a pre-purchase inspection of the pool and spa at a house we were considering purchasing. James Zukowski (I believe he's one of the owners) came out and did the inspection. I was pleased with him and the inspection he did. We discussed having JJ&B do the necessary repairs and also providing the regular ongoing maintenance to the pool but we never finalized anything; I expected James to contact me later with pricing and other details. A few weeks went by and I hadn't heard back from James so I sent him an email; he never responded. I then called and left a voice mail; he never responded. Needless to say, I found another company to handle things for me. Why a 1-Star rating? The lack of communication is one thing, but today I received an invoice for $330 for two months of pool service. JJ&B never provided any service -- in fact, the pool has been drained for weeks now. Any company with the audacity to bill a person for service not rendered is not worth dealing with. Maybe it's not audacity in this case; maybe it's just plain laziness, lack of professionalism, and stupidity. In any case, I'd stay clear of these people! read more

JJ&B Pools recently replaced the flagstone around our pool and spa. The stone had been in for approximately 20 years and was disintegrating slowly. We could not be happier with how the job turned out and the price to do the work was very reasonable and acceptable. The job was not only labor intensive but required an artistic talent that the crew was able to provide. Really happy with our pool work we just had done. Our pool is 13 years old and our tiles started lifting. We also had a white bottom so we decided to fix the tiles, but also add in some protection for the desert climate we live in and pebble bottoms help give added protection from cracking. We first chose the water color we wanted which then helped us chose the pebble. Next we chose the small tiles to compliment the blue color we were shooting for. Everyone was friendly to work with and brought tons of samples for us. We were also guided with certain colors that last longer than others which was appreciated. The project took about a week due to some tile being out of stock but it was quick and the quality is great. We're super happy with the pool work JJB has done for us. read more

I interviewed 4 companies for what I needed done for my pool and deck. The pool itself seemed fine, however there was a leak running right between the spa and pool wall that needed to be fixed, and determine if there were any other leaks. Pool border tiles were cracking and loosening from their grout. The concrete deck was hideous. I wanted it replaced with pavers. Of the 4 people/companies I spoke with, James was the only contractor who would take on the entire job. (Others were "I'll do the tiles, but I don't do decks...etc.) James was the only contractor that took a great deal of time with me talking about what needed to be done, and what didn't need to be done. I passed on some recommendations from neighbors and settled on JJ&B Pools based on my discussions with James. I felt his estimate was reasonable as well. I was very impressed by the work done by JJ&B Pools. All this work was completed in just over 2.5 weeks. James was always and easily available by phone with any questions I had. And often would say, "I'll be there in 15 minutes." - and he was! He assisted me in picking out the pavers, tiles and the coping color, and it all came together beautifully. Workers were great. They were here just about every single day, and were very professional. Often when working with contractors on a big job, there is always some type of problem, be it little or small. There were NONE! Not once did I feel that something was left out, forgotten, not taken care of. This was truly a quality experience from beginning to end! I'm very displeased! I called to inquire about an estimate for a pool. The lady that answered the phone was rude and unprofessional. She told me my budget of $30,000 was a "waste of their time" and they only helped customers for $40,000 and more! I've never heard of someone turning down $30,000!!! Unbelievable! Just recently moved to the desert and bought a house needing a little TLC. I compared a few places and decided to have JJ&B Pools do my remodel. JJ & B pools redid my pool and it came out fantastic. James was very respectful of our time and money and made sure we were absolutely happy with our remodel. He even ensured that my pool heater didn't need replacing which saved me $3000. Who does that? He obviously cares about his work and reputation. Sad to say, but this appears to be a trend. Set an appointment to get a quote for tile work and they sent someone out - but ... radio silence since then. No quote, no nothing from the company. Should I call and ask them what's up? Probably. Will I? No, time to move along - too indicative of the service that will be provided. read more

Use JJ&B for about three years. They've done a lot with our pool equipment, changing things around, adding a new heater, etc., which has been great. Their monthly service leaves a lot to be desired. Every month or two we have an algae outbreak which they seem to ignore until it gets pretty significant, and I've made three or four calls, finally to Jose, and eventually, and I mean in a week or two, they get it under control. It messes up full weekends of being able to swim. I know their weekly service person SEES the algae starting to bloom, but something about their procedures just makes it seem like they don't want to deal with it (or can't deal with it) immediately. read more

My dad made an appointment with Jose to get an estimate on a new pool construction, he then cleared his day and drove out from Los Angeles to Palm Desert to meet with him, but clearly Jose didn't want the job since he just didn't show up! A week later I decided to make appointments for my dad to meet with a couple of companies. I wasn't aware of the situation that occurred the prior week, so again I included Jose's company as an option. I called and made an appointment with him directly and he said he would definitely be there. To my surprise, HE DIDN'T SHOW UP AGAIN!!! I called the office numerous times and there was no answer. He didn't even bother to call and say I'm not going to make it. Had I known he was the same company that didn't show up the first time I would have never given him a second chance. Thankfully, this time he wasn't the only company scheduled so it wasn't a complete waste of a day. I needed some major pool remodeling and James came out to take a look. Again, helpful and friendly. I was told to expect an estimate within a few days. A week later I called because I hadn't received one. James was apologetic and promised to get it to me right away. NOPE. I didn't waste any money with them, but my time is valuable and they sure wasted that. Don't waste your time. I ended up very happy with the work that was done by another company, but can't for the life of me figure out how these guys stay in business when they take the time to go out and don't even bother to bid. read more

The owner comes off as nice but got irritated when asked to redo a ledge that had a huge crack from top to bottom that they caused. Cracked tiles and splashed paint on patio window while working on the new cool deck. Document your property before letting anyone work on it. I was ignoring the review for nearly two years. I bought a vacation home in Palm Springs as was not familiar with contractors in that market area. I met with a lot of pool contractors ( like 7 or 8) and I fell absolutely in love with JJ&B pools. Jose and his son, James, came out... listened to my wishes and presented some ideas that no other contractor has suggested. They took my ideas to the next level. They were straight-forward, seemed honest and caring. They also answered EVERY call re: questions. I made several changes and never felt like I was being a pian in the butt. They were very compassionate to my needs. I ran their estimate by my Long Beach pool guy and we called Jose and Jose picked up on the first ring and answered "Hi Earl" before i said who I was. He agreed to speak to my Long Beach pool guy. After my Long Beach pool guy finished his conversation he said : "...I like that guy... that is the kinda guy that you want to work with." I signed up with them and they started ON TIME, did what they said they would do, and stayed on estimate. I added smoe items and they were still reasonable evben though i was already hooked. Jose sent me status pictures by text about every two days. . He seemed to be proud of the work that they were doing - and he should have been proud! Everytime i popped in to check on the pool Jose was there or showed while I was there. Pool finsihed on time, James came and set up my automation system, came back and gave me a lesson on how to work the equipment. they gave me one month free service (and they never missed a day). We are incredibly happy with our pool remodel. Jose and team were fantastic to work with. We had gotten several estimates, and there was just something about Jose that made us feel a sense of trust. He listened very closely to what we wanted, and then helped us with all the design elements. We were surprised how difficult it is to make all the decisions with tile, pebble finishes, colors, and everything else that goes with pools. Jose was there for us every step of the way. There were several little bumps along the way, but these things come up with old homes in Palm Springs. I would highly recommend Jose and this company if you have a pool remodel. After the work was finished, we had several small things needing attention and Jose stood behind every aspect of the work and didn't stop with the finishes until we were happy. We went with pebble finish for the pool instead of plaster, and travertine for the pool deck instead of concrete, and the end result is pretty incredible. Jose and the other Jose were like artists, spending several extra days cutting in each piece of travertine around the pool deck to fit snugly against other rock walls. When I say amazing workmanship, I'm not exaggerating. They even carved out pool filter covers out of travertine so it wouldn't look off where we access the filter in the ground. Jose even met us out at his store a few times to go back over tile and pebble options to make sure we were happy. Pool remodels are surprisingly emotional experiences since every choice you make will be around for so many years. Jose guided us through every step, and we could not be happier. Plus, he's just a good person with a very trustworthy sense about him. He even took us to his house to see what the travertine looked like for the pool deck. You just don't see this kind of service and attention to detail in most people. read more

Whenever there's a more complicated problem Jose shows up himself. They also built an outdoor firepit for me and installed colored lights in the pool, both of which work beautifully. I wrote a raving review a year ago but somehow it doesn't seem to have posted ? In any event my opinion has not changed. JJBPools constructed a new pool and spa from beginning to end. They had the best initial quote, with the upgrades over time, it was still within budget. They even coordinated to have other work done: construct a block wall and retrofit gates. They worked with the city inspector and ensured that the new pool was in compliance with the city. I enjoyed working with the owner, the account rep and all of his staff. Thanks again. (I had four bids ) The package included all Hayward equipment, new block wall, decking , and gates. They performed high quality work with great customer service . Jose, the owner, is highly professional and knowledgeable in pool construction and led his staff to successful completion. We had aesthetic design changes, pool safety enhancements , and equipment upgrades during the project and they accommodated us and Jose worked with us on the costs. Jose and his team did a great job with all phases of the process. Starting with the design, which I'm sure I frustrated them with as I changed my mind several times. Next challenge was the removal of the jungle and koi pond which we inherited when we bought the house. The construction was done in a timely manner as was originally quoted. Several changes were implemented during construction which were gladly implemented. Pool done just in time for the summer heat. I called several pool contractors and asked for them to give me an estimate in building my new pool. Jose came out a few days later, talked with me about what I wanted and then took measurements so that he could give me a cost for the project. I finally gave up waiting for his bid several weeks later and went with another company. Poor business ethics. If he was too busy he should have just said so. read more

Weekly maintenance started well but now it is hard for me to write something positive. The pool service is intermittent and not performed well. Often I have to call to get someone here to get the pool serviced. There has to be a better pool service somewhere in the Valley. read more

If it were possible to leave zero stars we would. We used this company for YEARS to service our pool. For a while, all was good. Then it started. The serviceman would skip days. There was always some excuse. He seemed to be "color blind" to green algae. He couldn't get the chemicals right. Each time we called Jose or James, they defended HIM. James was so rude the last time we tried to get our green pool clear, he finally told us he "couldn't accommodate us" anymore. On top of that, they "lost" the keys to our gates! If you want peace of mind and a clear pool, DON'T use these guys!! read more

This company was referred to me by a friend who formerly worked in the property management business. I called Dalia and she said that Jose, the owner, would be at the house the next morning to give me a bid on calcium removal, re-sealing the pool and spa and refinishing our decking that was showing its age. Jose showed up right on time and basically gave me a free inspection of all items that would be needing attention in the near future, which I totally concurred with. He measured the job at hand and two days later I received his bid price. Jose had told me that he's not the cheapest but also not the most expensive so I felt his price was fair and called them to proceed. The two workmen, Jose (different one) and Mauro showed up at 8AM about a week later and went right to work. These two men worked their guts out in the hot sun non stop and accomplished the calcium removal and re-sealing the same day. I was amazed at the quality of work, the cleanup and the professionalism of these men. The next day Richard showed up at 8AM to start the refinishing of our deck which was about 15 years old. Like the other two men, Richard went right to work...no radio, no cell phone calls, no interruptions of any kind. Richard is a real perfectionist and worked alone with no breaks and knew exactly what he was doing. The deck process is about two and a half days as there are layers that have to set as they go on. Richard did a fantastic job and our 15 year old pool looks brand new. Thank you Richard! He cleaned up after the job and raked and sprinkled the surrounding areas picking up dust and fine stones. After he had left, it was perfect. Two days later I received the invoice from the company which was right to the dollar of the original quote. A business transaction doesn't get any better...agreement on price, skilled and professional job, done on time as promised, priced as originally quoted....and most importantly a happy customer. JJB pools have been servicing my pool for a while now and I cannot be a happier client. They are very knowledgable about pool products and always take the time to help me understand as well. I had spoken with the supervisor, James in the past he had given me his personal phone number in case there was ever an issue that needed immediate attention. This gesture has come in handy a couple times and I personally thought it was great to have someone be so passionate about his work be at JJB pools, especially when most companies have you deal with machines that never answer your exact question versus real people. I recently purchased a house in Rancho Mirage and had minimal knowledge of the pool and there were some major issues with the equipment. To be clear, the work performer by the maintenance man (Jose) was great. The reason I won't be calling again in the future lies solely with the receptionist/office manager who clearly quoted me a price over the phone which, based on that price I authorized the work (the day before). However, after the service was completed, I was surprised to see an "additional" charge which definitely was not mentioned. It's like they were trying to slip in an extra charge purposely, the old bait and switch. In this case, I very specifically asked her (over the phone) all costs involved beforehand. The next day the work was completed, and when I called to dispute the charges (the day after I just spoke to her to authorize the work), she gave me attitude like I was trying to get something for free or scam THEM. You would think she could remember telling me something the day before, however a) don't give out the wrong information on pricing or b) don't give me attitude if you forgot to mention a charge when I specifically asked you. Either way, you should know that you made a mistake and apologize for the confusion, suck up the additional charge and learn not to make that mistake again (if you actually were concerned about repeat business and referrals). When I said that I would only pay the agreed upon charges, she said; "Okay, obviously we're not going to agree on this, so why don't you just pay the original price, and you just get the other service for free" (with attitude) I explained I wasn't trying to get something for free to which she said with more attitude; "I guess I'll just be paying for those others charges out of my pocket". To which I said, "I guess so". Don't give me attitude like it's somehow my fault, as now I will call on another pool company in the future as a result. Get all costs in writing first before dealing with these people if you do decide to. read more
