Bad Attitude. Worse Customer Care. I give 4.5 stars on the taste of the bakery products. However, I give minus 3.5 stars on customer care. It was 10 minutes before store close, like 7:50. And, the employees already started to remove bread from the display tray saying, "it's closed," which it meant, 'get out from here. no service anymore.' So, I left. No, I was refused to be served. Okay, I believe the service must be made continuously if t is still in business hours. I also believe that the business hours is a promise between business owners and customers. They must serve until the promised time is ended. Yet, JJ Bakery at Torrance didn't keep it. I know why their revenue is declining. It is not because there is a brand new 85 degree bakery is opened nearby, but because JJ's service mind is degraded. read more

I havent tried any of the cakes so I have to come back to try those. I came here to get the egg tarts. Probably my favorite place to get the tarts. Only thing I have against this place is that I have to come super early in order for me to have my tarts. If I come later they usually run out of them. JJ Bakery is located in a prime spot, less than a mile from my spot. It is also in the same strip mall as Starbucks. Its like if they go together. Maybe its just me. But they do have some great pastries, cakes, and many other goodies. I definitely enjoy my time discovering new sweet delights. I am always pleased with the fresh taste in their baking goods. The ladies are always very helpful and cheerful. All positive so far. I believe it is very inexpensive for the artistic and creative goods they offer and share with us. I believe they're Chinese, but they offer some Taiwanese items. So, not really sure, but I do know their breads are really delicious. read more

I walked in and all I hear is the young girl complaining to the other worker and constantly talking smack about them and how they were so "annoying" on the phone. Honestly, that would be okay if no one was around. It was so annoying when your trying to buy pastries and all you hear this girl bitch. Very unprofessional! -1 We were here a kind of late so selection wasn't great, but it didn't look like much to begin with.. -2 I kept on walking back and forth trying to figure out what to get or if I should just save my money. I finally just grabbed a a coconut roll & my boyfriend got 2 things. He said he liked the coffee bun and another one I forgot what it was called, but it was okay. JJ Bakery is my favorite bakery in the South Bay area. Their cakes and pastries are absolutely delicious! My family has been ordering all our birthday cakes here for many years. They are very elegantly decorated, not too sweet, and the cake itself is very light and fluffy. I recommend the chocolate, vanilla, and mocha cakes. In addition to a layer of chocolate, vanilla, or mocha fillings inside the cakes, you can choose from a variety of fruit fillings as well (strawberry, banana, kiwi, taro, peach...) A few years ago, we tried the taro filling... it's OKAY... it was a bit too dense and the flavor was empowering. All their pastries are individually wrapped, which is nice because fillings/flavors of different foods don't ooze onto one another. Their breads are always fresh, soft, and fluffy. I like their bread that has sweet red bean filing inside. They also come filled with red bean AND mochi. I think this place is family-run.. and everyone there is always super nice! read more

near mother's day i tried ordering a cake near here the person helping me was extremely rude, couple months since then i decided to try this bakery. the lady in front of me in line was the same nationality as the lady working, she was very nice to them. i then get disrespected by this woman. she was blatantly rude, very demanding. when she told me the price i could not hear her so i asked if she could repeat it and she goes " i said.." in a very rude tone. will not be going back terrible costumer service. read more

If you and a few friends suffered from diarrhea after eating a few pastries, it's your responsibility to return to the bakery and let them know. Right?? Well that's exactly what I did. I purchased a box of cheesecake sticks and Hokkaido Chiffon Cake and my friends and I dealt with a sudden bout of diarrhea. I promptly returned to the bakery the next morning and you won't believe what happened. The girl at the counter brought out the manager (or another superior) who began to take apart the pastries, one by one, and proceeded to dip her dirty money-touching fingers into the custard and licked them ever so slowly. Next, she dipped her previously licked finger into the custard and held it to my face. "Try it!! Try it!! It's not bad!! It's good!! Nothing's wrong with it! No refund!" Finally, she pushed the fingered pastries into my hands and told me to go away. NASTY! I just left the mess at the counter and walked out. read more

I've come here several times for their cakes. It's fun mixing their fancy cake slices and getting them as gifts for people. They wrap their pastries nicely and their pre-wrapped cookies are also quite good. A little pricey, but I think it's worth it. I wouldn't recommend them if you like American style cake with lots of frosting and sponge-like insides. The flavors are lighter and more delicate in many of their cakes, but that is their style. read more

These Taiwanese goodies have me hooked. I've tried most of the ones i thought may be appetizing. That pineapple bread is like the Taiwanese "Melon Pan" that I love so much. I usually put the pineapple bread in the microwave for 15 seconds and it becomes really soft. Convenient in the mornings with a cup of Joe from Starbucks located in the same plaza. TWO THUMBS UP! Love the pastry there. It is, however, a by-chance type of place. You can't always find your favorites or have it fresh-out-of-the-oven toasty warm. Different things come out of the oven through out the day. When you get it, it's great and melts in your mouth. But I've also learned to pass on even my favorites if they look like they've been on the shelf for a few hours. It's definitely a nice treat and we always go back for more. read more

Upping to five stars - had another slice of the previously mentioned chocolate cake today, came with the same whipped light frosting, and slices of strawberries, kiwis, and peaches. What inspired me to up the ratings were a) the staff was super friendly to me today, and b) After the last time I bought the cake, my boyfriend's mom and his sister fell in love with this bakery and have started ordering cakes from here..and funny thing, was that today my boyfriend and I actually stopped by and ordered a Fruit Festival, but we didn't get to try that cake because his mom had bought the chocolate cake already! I love popping in to J&J Bakery when I am in the neighborhood. I tend to get the red bean bun, the nut pie thing (a wedge of chopped nuts wrapped in sesame pastry), the spinach bun, and the bbq pork bun. Everything is so fresh and so delicious and relatively cheap. There are many sweet and savory treats here to tempt your palate. And, the labels are relatively descriptive (better than the lack of labels at 85C in Irvine). I have not had any of the beverages, but I could make myself very plump on all the delicious bakery goods! read more

Oh man, I went back for some mochi and DANGGG they are good! I got the mango mochi for myself and picked up a strawberry one for the bf. The mango mochi is very soft and fresh tasting and the inside is filled with mango creme/fresh mango pieces?! Party in my mouth!! It's a bit on the sweet side and kinda pricey for each one ($2.75), but it IS a huge piece of mochi. I dropped off the strawberry one so I didn't get to try it, but I will get myself one next time. The green tea one apparently has red bean paste in it. My mom picked up some bread recently and they were OK. I took what looked like a chocolate croissant on my way to work, only to discover that it was packed filled with red bean T___T I usually like red bean but not THAT much haha. There was also a chocolate loaf for only $2, but it was OK, not much chocolate flavoring in it, although the chocolate swirls make it look nice. When I take bread into the office, my boss tends to like the "golden horn" bread, but it's pricey ($4+). I don't recommend the green tea cookies--too potent. Again, I will be back for the mochi...and of course, as always, their EGG TARTS! :) read more

I've order an iced coffee and sesame seeds pork bun. I've never been to a bakery that does not have creamer for their coffee; they use milk only. I am lactose intolerant. I wanted to try the sesame seeds pork bun because it was different than the typical Asian pork bun. It was TOO different for me. The pork filling doesn't have much flavor. read more

Very good! I purchased the Fruit Festive Cake ($35) for my mom's bday, my whole family enjoyed it! When I went in for the first time I saw so many delish-looking goods, i didnt know what to get. I've only had the Fruit Festive Cake, Tiramisu (long-$16), and the blueberry mousse (individual size $3.75-i think) and i'm a very happy customer. I have been to this bakery many,many times. The last visit was a disaster. Two of the sponge cakes I bought developed mold after one day. I took the sponge cake back to show them the mold on the cakes. The response I got from the sale clerk was that it was my fault the mold developed because I didn't refrigerate the cakes. No apology or refund or replacing the cakes were offered. I would have fired the sales clerk The funny thing about this incident is the cakes weren't refrigerated, just sitting on the counter. Also no mention that these cakes had to be refrigerated was said. No more going to this bakery. read more
