Came here last night for an event and was blown away by how delicious everything was! The restaurant is broken down into a bar area, an inside dining room, sidewalk dining area, and a patio area out back with a retractable roof, so there's truly an atmosphere for every mood. Great music was playing in the bar area when we came in that later changed over to live music, which JJ Coopers has every night. The GM, Matt, is an absolute sweetheart and showed great interest in all his customers and their experience. The chef here clearly understands how flavors compliment one another and has some really fun and creative dishes. My favorite dishes were the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes and the Asian Marinated Skirt Steak for dinner, and the Fried Oreo for dessert. Will definitely be back! read more

We only stopped in briefly but had a nice time! It was kind of like life before covid...! Live music, sports on TV. All of the staff wear masks of course and what made me comfortable was that the front door and all of the windows were open, creating good airflow that we know is critical to preventing spread. I hosted my sister's surprise 30th birthday in the private room upstairs. The service was exceptional, we had our own private bar, and management was incredibly easy to work with. Met with my visiting family for lunch and was not disappointed. Last time I was here it was fir a wedding after party and it was great as well. Today, almost all of us got burgers that were excellent all around. I got the black & bleu burger with a gluten free bun, minus the fries onions for sautéed and subbed a salad to replace the fries. Came here for with a small group of friends to get out a bit during this pandemic and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. The waitress (unfortunately I don't remember her name) was attentive and funny. It was not too crowded at all, lots of open space. Amazing setting and food! You must try the meatball appetizer and if you're a margarita drinker, this place is for you. My first time here, the place has a really cool feel to it. It's really clean. The customer service was awesome. Love the renovations to this place. The specialty cocktails at the bar aren't that great and when I asked for one the bartender couldn't make it because she was out if ingredients. The food was pretty good for bar food. I wouldn't say the meals were great but after all it is a bar at the end of the day. We had the wings which were a nice size and not the small little flaps you get at some other places. The truffle fries were good but they could have used more truffle and more cheese - they use steak fries so for the size of the fry I expected them to be covered in ingredients but that wasn't the case. The steak panini was delicious as well as the short rib. They had pumpkin raviolis which I guess are seasonal and the sauce was so tasty. The ravioli itself wasn't that great but the sauce had a nice sage, garlic kick and was topped with mushrooms. They have water on the table in a pretty crafty glass jug and although it's simple I think it's a nice touch. For the ambiance and service I will be back. I wouldn't come back for the specialty drinks because I feel their alcohol is watered down (unless vodka was left out of my martini). Good place for burgers and small bites. read more

After a nice day on the boardwalk was looking for an elevated mid day bite. Not crowded. Our waiter was nice but seemed overwhelmed. Food took like 25 minutes for apps and 30 more to get our mains. I had a salad which was good, although not enough dressing. Asked for more, never came. The Mrs. Had the short rib burger. Short rib was dry, burger was overcooked and looked like something that came out of a package. Not the "short-rib burger" implied on the menu. Overcooked hockey puck, inedible. We had a great dinner at JJ Coopers on a recent Saturday evening. We sat outside on the street side which was the only place you could get away from the extremely loud inside. I mean we couldn't hear each other standing next to each other waiting to be seated. We could still hear the music outside though which was nice. The tuna appetizer was the best thing we had. It was great and beautifully plated. We had a salad with added salmon which was a huge entree sized piece and delicious. The steak sandwich was excellent. The only downside is the extreme noise if you are inside, but if you like a loud bar scene you will love everything there. read more

Went there to celebrate my birthday with my family and it was a perfect dinner. We waited at the bar for everyone to arrive and enjoyed some drinks first, our bartender was friendly and made great drinks. Our server, Mary was friendly as well and suggested some great apps before we order dinner. I've lived in Long Beach my entire life and visited what was Sutton Place many times. When my best friend asked me to go see the venue for her engagement party at JJ Coopers, I did not connect the two. Her party is being held in the back room at this beautifully renovated location. We went on a Wednesday night to check out the space, meet with the owner Rob and have a cocktail at the bar. I was immediately impressed by the new wood accents and the impressive light colored marble bar. The red high-top chairs added a very nice touch. It had a very upscale vibe. Upon arriving the bartender (who was wonderful, and coincidentally also named Rob) took our wine order. We chatted and relaxed at the bar for a moment before taking the tour. There were a lot of young couples on dates, seated at the bar. Which totally made sense to me, as this place now LOOKED like the kind of bar you would want to take a date to, to impress them. I would absolutely consider going on a date there and hanging at the bar. Onto the back room, which converts into the patio in the summer.,It is absolutely perfect for a 75-90 person cocktail party . I love the wood floors and exposed brick. I kept commenting on how wonderful the pictures taken in that room are going to look. The elevated ceilings definitely help to keep the air flowing, and everyone comfortable in the space. The bar set up within the room is efficient, and there are several staff members that will be designated specifically for her party. The service they provide seems to be top notch. I cannot stress how great Rob was. He let us ask him a MILLION questions :) and was extremely patient and informative. He did not leave one stone unturned when it came to our concerns. He took the time to walk us through the exact way everything would be put into place the night of the party. It gave us a really great understanding of how we would arrange balloons and decorations. We are feeling really confident now that we met with Rob. Rob then brought us back to the bar, where we had the crab cake appetizer (delicious, the avocado yumminess on top is unreal) and discussed the menu. He made excellent recommendations based upon the passed hor d'ouvres she was choosing. He was professional and honest, but made her feel comfortable. I would definitely work with Rob on my next party. I will update my review after the party, but I find it hard to believe it would be any less than the excellent service we've experienced thus far. I learned quite a few things during my experience with JJ Coopers. The most important being my friends and I will never go back. We had a reservation and weren't sat until 45 minutes after our time. We were also informed the kitchen told the hostesses to stop sitting people because they were "too busy". Once seated we didn't have a waitress for another 25 minutes because "the one server for outside isn't doing too well on his own". We didn't get water let alone refills once we started getting our food. We put in our appetizers and entrees at the same time since it was difficult for us to find a server. Needless to say that was a mistake considering all our food came out at once. (The Kung pao calamari was rubbery) the rest of the food was okay, again nothing worth waiting as long as we had. Then when it came time to pay our check... we had decided to leave a cash tip and we didn't put it with the receipt because we were still finishing our food and drinks. The waitress actually came out faster than she did the entire time we were sitting. Asking where her tip was. Told us she was concerned because the "guys who bus steal our tips... have been fired and rehired". Needless to say we were speechless and immediately left because the entire process was a nightmare. Attended a bridal shower here and it was absolutely fabulous! The privet room with a complete sun roof was perfect for the party! The staff gave outstanding service with wonderful etiquette, experience and had a genuine smile on their face the entire time. Food and drinks where delicious and everyone at the party said so, which you know proves it to be true! The restaurant had a nice dinning room and bar that felt versatile to either have a nice dinner out, celebration or a fun place to go for drinks and watch a game with a bunch of friends! Very clean. Since it was raining, I called to confirm the reservation and was told that we would be fine on the patio. Please be aware that the "patio" is a totally enclosed space...not outside at all. Just got home from a late lunch. I went with my husband and daughter. We had our masks on and went inside for a table. We were surprised to see a full bar, no seats available, no one had a mask on. I get it, they were seated so masks off to drink, eat, etc. There were plastic dividers between every 4 th or so stool and most tables were full. Live music was on and we asked for a table as far away from ppl as possible. We kept our masks on even after we ordered. It took 37 minutes to get our food. My husband's 'open' face sandwich had to be closed because only one side had meat on it. The diet soda was flat. Finally the food came and when our waitress left, she never came back. Onion soup was just ok. We needed salt, never even got to ask her for it. She didn't return to see how everything was. We needed napkins and had to ask a waiter passing by. No waitress ever even looked out way to see if we needed help. I needed a refill and had to drink my husbands soda. We asked a different waiter to go find our waitress and when she came back we asked for more soda, but we were nearly finished eating. The food wasn't bad, but nothing super great. Took us three attempts to have dinner here, but finally succeeded by making a reservation. Food and service was excellent. We ate upstairs which was much quieter than downstairs. Absoulty horrible service. When we entered the restaurant we were not informed of any precautions the bar was doing during covid. The bar was not seperated to sit at, and we were not told if we could sit there. When asking the hostess if we could sit at a table we were given one. BUT it was a problem to only buy appetizers and drinks without dinner. We were about to leave but then all of sudden it was ok. When ordering our drinks. The waitress, kept pressuring us to buy more! And not 5 minutes after we got our food, the bus staff came over to try to clean it up. They continued to come over every 3 minutes to try to take plates and glasses. We had to keep telling them "No, were not finished." They were so concerned with trying to flip the table, that it completey ruined our night. We were unable to enjoy any of it.
