I am no Chinese food connoisseur, but I would have to agree that the food did seem to lack flavor. After a few disastrous attempts for Chinese in this area, I was happy to try a new spot on Yelp. Before I go further, let me emphasize that this was infinitely better than Hunan's, another close Chinese restaurant. First, the value was great. There was a ton of food for around $10/person, and the order was quick. There was a problem with getting the food-we had to go back to get two servings of egg rolls that had been overlooked in the large order. I think this was just a mistake; the manager was very apologetic and rectified the situation within a few minutes the second time. In terms of the actual food, I would rate it as pretty average. The eggrolls and broccoli were tasty, but not much else stood out for me. Although a lot of reviewers mentioned the Wonton soup as being amazing, it actually was kind of on the bland side for me. I've ordered from this place a few times- a couple when it was known as C Fu Yang, and twice as JJ Garden. I'm 99.9% convinced they just changed the name/owners for tax evasion purposes as the menu items/names/numbers are exactly the same and the interior didn't change one bit. Anyways, onto the menu. They are quick for ordering-I'll give them that. However, it's gotta be pretty easy to fix food that lacks flavor. My wife and I ordered two dinner combos-one was General Tso's and one was spicy chicken. Both with Spring Rolls and one with egg drop soup and the other with wonton soup. Wonton Soup was actually decent-tasted like simple chicken broth with ok wontons. Wife liked the egg drop soup. The spring rolls were horrible. The cooking was good-pretty well fried. However, they were both filled with cabbage and nothing else! The spicy/tangy chicken was completely horrible. It had some weak sauce on there with NO flavor to it. I actually had to add salt to it-something I've never done with Chinese food. The general Tso's was weak also. It had a bit of the typical general Tso's flavor, but nothing to write home about. I actually went here on a whim, it was rainy and cold and I was super hungry. It's such a tiny place, but so comforting. You're greeted right away- and can sit anywhere. EVERYTHING is made fresh, you literally hear them making it right after you order. I usually get the lunch or dinner combo. The prices are great, and the food is exquisite. Wonton soup had no flavor. Dumplings were bland, too. Summer rolls were only cabbage and two or three shrimp and the sauce was definitely not a peanut sauce. For me, this is the best Chinese Food I have ever had. And trust me, as a Chinese Food fanatic, I have gone to many around Houston, even LA and NYC, and none has been as good as the food at C Fu Yang. I always get the Sweet and Sour with the sauce mixed in and steamed rice. The lunch and dinner special always includes a soup of choice and roll. I always go for the Hot and Sour soup, accompanied with delicious, crispy chips, and a Spring Roll which is complemented with Sweet and Sour sauce to pour over your roll if you so desire. I have also tried the Chicken with Spicy Garlic Sauce as my sister usually gets this one when we go together. It so delicious, I would go as far as to say I would choose this dish if I couldn't order the Sweet and Sour. Make sure to ask for spicy sauce so you can pour over the chicken if you like your food spicy or with an extra kick. This place is the best "Americanized" Chinese Restaurant in the area. I always get delivery. The food always arrives hot, the food tastes good, and the portion sizes are decent. I usually get the dinner combos which come with soup, appetizer, and entre with rice. My favorite dish is probably the spicy tangy chicken. It isn't tangy. We saw a flyer on our door. Decided to find the location and look at internet pictures of the interior. At first, I thought, "That doesn't look like a Chinese restaurant." Since we were unhappy with the quality of our usual Chinese restaurant, we tried JJ Gardens. Very pleased. They great us as we walk inside and say goodbye when we leave. That was on our first visit and usually every time since. The prices are similar to the non-buffet Chinese restaurants in the area. The workers are always in view if we need assistance and they are usually very aware of the water glasses needing filling. The restaurant and restrooms have been clean. Stopped by this conveniently located restaurant on Beechnut and 610, despite the fact that it is well located, the restaurant seemed empty on a Labor Day even at a late afternoon close to dinner time. First of all, I was not any close impressed with the food, the service or the decor in the restaurant. My main concern is, what is the theme of the restaurant? Of course, it says it is Asian Fusion right out front, but using bamboo shoots roof and bamboos as plants, with Christmas lights surrounding the walls of the entire restaurant does not bring out its wow factor to the restaurant in terms of its interior. I always pay attention to the food and service when visiting any restaurant, any unfortunately this one just does not do it for me. I o rdered the shrimp with vegetables dinner combo, which the price is OK for $10 that includes a small soup, a vegetable egg roll with the entree and selection of white, brown or fried rice is a generous portion of food. However, the hot and sour soup I ordered tasted lukewarm, and it had no flavor whatsoever without any seasoning. I seriously thought I was eating a bowl of vinegar, soy sauce mixed with water and some garnish with some crispy "taco strips." The shrimp and vegetables, portion is good, but the taste is bland with no flavor other than the white sauce I had asked for. Even so, it tasted just like some thickened cornstarch and nothing else. Back of the house and front of the house appears to be totally disconnected, either no one was executing the food to make sure the order is correct before it was sent out, or there was no consistency in the way the order taker wrote the order. Despite the food delivery was quick, and yes, I received the soup within seconds after my order was taken, which tells me that the soup had been sitting on the pot probably not even warmed properly and poured straight into my bowl. When I got done with the soup, then a different staff and not the waitress came to ask me what sauce I wanted after my order was taken, which made me wonder if the waitress knew what she was doing. Then, when my food did arrive 5 minutes later, which was piping hot and not luke warm, just as I was about to take bite, the waitress abruptly took the food away which made me very confused. Three minutes later, the staff that asked me about the sauce came to ask me what was the side dish I wanted to go with my dish. I gave her the answer, but thought it was quite rude of her to just take my food away. I am starting to wonder if this is the owner's first restaurant business, it definitely needs a lot of work, in my opinion. read more

JJ Gardens was pretty disappointing. Usually small restaurants like this location provide great customer service and the food taste almost homemade. However this was not the case for this restaurant. Starting with the environment the place itself was not the cleanest the walls were dirty and so were the booths. The food was not good it tasted like it had been just microwaved and chicken had a weird texture. Not bad at all for an American Chinese-restaurant. Not too far from home (haven't verified we're in delivery area yet or not, but pick up was easy), prices not too bad, and the food all of thoroughly acceptable quality. Nothing outstanding, but nothing terrible. The sauces weren't spicy enough for us (because they were completely mild) and were a bit too sweet. We easily fixed the spiciness with some chili paste, and once it was hot enough the slightly too sweet wasn't as noticeable. All in all, it was better than OK but not really great. read more
