Jjan is the place you go to mess up your insides because you're mad at the world and want to drink and eat and drink and eat until every part of your digestive track is swollen with regret. It's where both Korean dramas start and end and every thing just gets louder as the night continues. The unassuming entrance and random location made it feel like a true speakeasy. The Kim Chi Pizza Fried Pork is amazing. And I recommend taking a preventative pepto before inhaling this dish. We got ramen and chicken wings to enhance the inhalation of our guts. Tasty tasty bar food that I got to experience the morning after on the toilet. But it made me feel human again. Hidden gem Korean bar that is a part of the OB Bear, Go Pocha and DGM family. If you wanna go to a lowkey spot with good parking, come here! The rest of ktown is always so packed but this little spot always has room for me. I usually come here during happy hour because that's when i can afford things LOL. My favorite is their katsu! The sauce is so good. And their spicy chicken with cheese is *chefs kiss* the soju is cheaper than other places because of their happy hour and it's everyday! read more

My friend took me to JJAN a few weeks ago and holy moly, I'm totally one of the (former) uncool people who had 0 idea that this place existed. I was drunkenly taken here in the evening and just before I expected we were lost, we arrived. Its a cool little gastropub with super interesting dishes. I made the mistake of thinking the Sweet potato fries were french fries made out of sweet potato, but they are literally fries (flat and crispy ones) with sugar on them. We shared the cheese corn, fries and a few bottles of Kikusui. I'm looking forward to showing this place off to others and bask in the knowledge that im officially hip. read more

Waited 45 minutes to an hour outside, and then after we ordered food waited probably another 40 minutes to an hour, AFTER I FLAG THEM DOWN, just for one of the staff to tell me that they forgot my order and didn't put it in the computer. So we sit there, and they look at us a couple of times but they don't realize that "hey maybe we didn't give them their food". After telling us that they forgot to input our order we just asked for check for the drinks that we got and left. Extremely, almost laughable level of incompetence from this staff and will never come back here. read more

Visited this place for the first time this Wednesday 01/29/20. Tiny. Dark. Loud. Entrance is only from the parking lot. Parking was easy because they have a huge lot. Service was okay. The kids working there that night were more interested in chatting, dancing, and talking on the phone than attending to customer's needs. They worked hard when they were called. Hard was to get them to see you. Food and drinks are priced just like any other bar. Expensive, but that's normal. They have a $68 combo that lets you order 4 dishes and 1 bottle of beer/soju. It's not a very good deal if you think about it. $60 / 4 = $15 each dish $8 bottle of soju The taste is subpar. Lots of precooked or frozen/reheated dishes. There were 1 or 2 things that were good, but I can't remember the names now. Take your business somewhere else if you're going to spend the same amount of money anyways. read more

Great Korean gastropub! The food is pretty decent. I came here specifically to try the kimchi pizza with pork katsu. The kimchi is pretty sweet and the cheese is very strong. Stronger than a normal pizza cheese. I love melted cheese, so this was really delicious! The service is pretty good. There is a parking lot behind it, so you don't have to worry about looking for parking on the street! read more

HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS HIDDEN GEM IN KTOWN?! A few of my friends decided to go out on a random Saturday night and they took me here! I wasn't sure where we were going at first, but we entered a small place that was full of pretty good vibes. The staff was super friendly and attentive and sat us within 5 minutes, even with people ahead of us. We ordered 5 bottles of soju ... I believe 4 grapefruit flavored and 1 regular. We ended up getting an extra bottle on the house since we ordered so much in total! The food here is BOMB. Like .. get ready to indulge haha. We got an order of the Chicken Katsu pizza which was so cheeeesy, so cheesy that I had to do a cheese pull video for snap haha. We also got drug fries, which were on the house. It was a bed of fries with hot cheetos, nacho cheese, and some sauce. BOMB DOT COM. Between 6 people, the bill was $125 including tip! Which is about $21 a person, not bad for a night out of drinking and indulging. I will def come back sometime in the future! read more

Wow! This is a K-town place I would take out-of-town visitors to to give them a good experience. Jjan is amazing! It's been bookmarked for a while, and we tried to visit once just before closing, but it was too crowded. We visited again for a recent weekday happy hour and I was so disappointed in myself for not stopping by earlier. Jjan doesn't have obvious outside signage, and you have to turn on the street before Jon's Supermarket and park/enter through a lot in the back. Inside, it's your typical dark Korean bar with dividers between most tables for privacy, and black curtains blocking out the street on the other side. They alternated between K-pop and American newer and old school hip-hop... I liked it! Happy hour meant discounted drinks, and special combos, which are better for big groups. My man wanted to try the frozen beer (Miller kept ice cold with a thick later of foam.... kinda like slushy beer, on top), I got a half-off bottle of peach soju, and we decided on a healthy meal of cheese corn, "420 fries" (thin, crispy fries mixed with hot Cheetos and covered in cheese sauce, sour cream, and a sunny side up egg on top), and "cheese bath spicy chicken," which is an incredible combo of a cast-iron skillet covered in cheese, and topped with chicken in spicy sauce and more cheese. We couldn't stop eating the food. The cheese corn was among the best I've had, and in a super generous portion. And I was surprised at how addictive the fries were. This gastropub would be perfect for a gang of drunk people starting or ending the night. Service was on point and although it was a little pricey to be able to visit TOO often, this place is an unexpected gem. read more

I've been here about 20+ times and it's definitely one of my favorite bars in ktown. It's definitely pricey, so I wouldn't come if you were on a budget.. But food + drinks are all really good. I usually come for the frozen beer, which is beer with frozen foam(?) on top. It doesn't really taste like beer though and you can't really taste the alcohol, so it's especially good for those who are low on the alcohol tolerance scale.. They have happy hour every day from 5(?) to 9 p.m, and soju/beer/makkuli is about 50% off. If you pass happy hour, drinks get pretty pricey - probably the most pricey out of all the ktown bars.. But this place is always packed regardless of time of the week / day. If you come during the weekend, you'll probably have to wait. I usually order the gimpitang which is kimchi - pizza - tangsooyook! Definitely worth trying. There's a parking lot with NO valet (yay!) and a security guard that roams around, but because they share the lot with a laundromat and church, it can be impossible to park sometimes.. read more

I don't know much about Korea but if I had to guess, I would say they have a bunch of these kinds of places. Seems like a late night drinking and drunchie spot with great selections on greasy fried foods. I especially like getting the frozen beer, especially after eating at one of the Korean bbq joints. Seemed like a pretty lively place with loud music and crowded tables, which I think adds a positive element to the whole experience. However I think some people would not enjoy that. read more

Came here with my sisters to enjoy an evening out, we are just finishing up our time here. We are very disappointed at the service, the food was okay. However I feel like it would have been better of an experience if the service wasn't so poor. They kept serving other customers, while we kept waiting for our things I had to repeatedly keep asking or reminding. In most cases I'm more understanding but the fact we had to keep trying to get their attention but they just wouldn't give it. Tried talking to the manager about our experience to be quite honest it did not feel like the manager cared or had any genuine interest in our disappointment. This was a great place to stop in for a beer with a friend after dinner in ktown. What makes this place so unique is that they have FROZEN beer! They had three different flavors to choose from, and we chose the frozen apple beer! It was light, refreshing, and absolutely delicious. It was fairly cheap $7 for a pint. This place is like a hole in the wall but in a good way. First I like that they have a parking lot. The service was good too. We got the fries with hot cheetos and cheese with egg on top, sooo good! We also got the 9 skewers and the pork belly. They were all delicious! With a bottle of cass beer and a bottle of peach soju everything taste great for a Friday night. read more

When you're missing Korean style drinking places (more commonly known as HOF in Korea) - this seems to be close to home. It's not your fancy speakeasy or issit your classical dive bars but it's Korean authentic :p Started out with flavored soju: green grapes & grapefruit - both flavors I liked. If you liked as my friend called it fruity drinks - you will definitely be a fan of this. The staff was nice and attentive, it was easy to get someone and something fast. We we're super full from dinner so we got one of the small plates - the sweet potato fries and it was snacking paradise. It's not the thick fried you're thinking of but more the crunchy thin ones that doesn't stop going into your mouth! Munch away it was :) I noticed they had a few menus that were from my Korea days - like the kimchi pizza pork (called gimpitang) and excited to try it the next time I visit! read more

Except here at Jjan, it's about $11 (instead of 7-11's DIY Hot cheetos with Nacho Cheese drizzle for $2). I also had their frozen beer (refreshing) and Kimpidon (Kimchi, Pizza, and Donkatsu.. an okonomiyaki-lookalike). It was good but a super saucy, mushy mess. This is the hole-in-the-wall gastropub you want to go if you ever find yourself in K-Town with the late night munchies and a hankering for something spicy or cheesy or spicy AND cheesy - and want to wash it all down with a frozen beer. The later or earlier you are, the better. The line can get a little long - but the people are willing to wait. Is it worth it? Absolutely. For the frozen beer alone. This is the only place outside of Dodger Stadium, but still in LA, that I know that does it. It's what makes JJAN special. There are three flavors: original (aka normal beer), dark, and fruit (I've been here three times and the fruit flavor is almost always apple). Speaking of special - the most infamous thing they make is called '420 Fries', which is essentially a pot-head lover's dream: a generous serving of french fries, stirred with flaming hot cheetos, topped with nacho cheese sauce, drizzled mayo, and a sunny side up runny egg, served with a side of ketchup (which you don't really need, but don't look at me, I'm not complaining). Looking for something warm and soupey? Try their army stew -- it's like a kimchee pork broth with ramen, rice cake, and slices of lunchmeat. Yes, it's spicy too - but it's so, so satisfying. The crowd here is mostly young - and things can get a little rowdy, but everyone's just trying to have a good time. Portions are meant to be shared. The one major downside: their parking lot feels super sketch. But hey - at least they *have* a parking lot, amirite? read more

Why did I find out about this place just now? Ugh. I think might have discovered the next hidden gem in KTOWN. I go to this plaza all the time for the crappy Chinese food right next to it (my Panda Express substitute) and it was my first time seeing it and going to it. Parking and entrance in the back. Happy hour is till 9 and the discount only applies to drinks. But the food taste and selection are pretty good that I don't mind it too much! They have your mediocre Korean bar food along with some new menu choices I have yet to see on other menus. It's my first time ever seeing Hot Cheetos with nacho cheese and I just knew I had to try it. Honestly, it was the best decision I made that night, shoutout to myself and however much I imbibed before ordering this. (Note: it's just hot Cheetos and cheese). The KimPi- is something I would really like to recommend. I have yet to see a place that serves anything similar to this. You WONT regret it. I came here on a Friday night at almost 7 PM, and our party of 3 was seated right away. The pub is small-average size, and there were a good amount of patrons there already. As the night went on, the place got packed, so plan accordingly! We ordered a pitcher of beer, chicken wings, French fries with cheese, an egg, and hot cheetos, corn cheese, and fried dumplings. Everything tasted good, but the corn cheese and the dumplings were my favorite! The dumplings were juicy and the corn cheese had the perfect amount of sweetness. My only issue with JJAN is their water. It tasted stale, and it became obvious it was tap water. Our group ended up drinking more beer, so we didn't have to drink the water. Service was fine, parking is free and self-serve, but it does get full quick. The great part about this place? We didn't realize it was happy hour from 5:30 PM - 2 AM, so prices are amazing! koreans have really special way of pairing food and acohol. they drink alot and eat alot at the same place. so i can say this place is the heaven for heavy drinkers who like decent food. i searched in yelp and found this place. it is kind of hard to find this place because you have to come thru the back parking lot. they have this huge self parking lot so that is so wonderful. it was tueseday but this place was almost packed and vibe was amazing with this kpop. hiphop edm and all kind of good music. it was kind of lil dark and tables were lil close together but nothing was really uncomfortable. it looked like every many tables around me have ordered some kind of special fries so i've ordered that and spicy rice cake and their famous frozen beer. the drinks and food came out really quick and i everything was really good. and here is the tip, get familiar with servers. they will give you free drinks if you you have ordered some good amount. read more
