My husband and I came here last night for dinner and upon walking in, I wasn't too excited with the layout. It was self seating but the way the rooms are split up, we weren't 100% sure where we were allowed to sit and no one was in the front greeting anyone as they come in so you couldn't really ask questions unless you go to the bar first which was located towards the back. The tables were all dirty so we picked the least dirty table which still had crumbs all over it but we just tried to wipe them away as best as we could. The customers who came in after us picked the table next to us which was dirty as well but their server went and wiped it down for them which was nice. Our server was kind and answered all of our questions and we did inform her it was our first time so she suggested a few appetizers and we started with French Onion Dip. It was TO DIE FOR! The tortilla chips it comes with were perfectly crisped and salted and it hit all the right flavors. The food? Oh my word. The servings are MASSIVE. My husband ordered the Philly cheese steak with a side of onion rings and it did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken Cobb salad with a side of their Brussel sprouts. The chicken Cobb salad came with two small scoops of chicken salad and it was so light and refreshing and nothing like any other chicken salad I've ever had! Our server brought me a little bit of Parmesan cheese to top off the Brussel sprouts with and it was so good. All in all, the food was a hit! I wish I remembered to try the broccoli and cheese soup so we will be back in the future. Definitely recommend. We don't understand how Sandy McGee's only has a 3.7 rating after trying this spot out! read more

Came in today and tried the French dip sandwich with Swiss cheese and a cup of broccoli cheese soup--both were phenomenal. Perfectly comforting and surprisingly inexpensive for the quality. The soup in particular was rich, cheesy, and hit the spot. I also ordered a scoop of chicken salad with a side of fries and finished off with a slice of chocolate pie for dessert. While the main meal was solid, I do have to mention that the scoop of chicken salad felt overpriced at $10. It was literally one scoop with a single strawberry on the side--not quite the value I was expecting. The fries were crispy and satisfying, and the chocolate pie was a great way to end the meal--sweet, rich, and definitely worth saving room for. One of my favorite little touches at Sandy McGee's is the free appetizer crackers. They're oddly addicting and always a nice starter while you wait. Unfortunately, when we asked for more crackers after our food arrived, the person who brought out our plates seemed annoyed and told us to go ask the lady at the front. It was a bit off-putting, especially since we had already tipped $7 when we paid at the counter before receiving any service. That interaction left us feeling a little disappointed. The environment was nice and friendly. The restaurant is in a little small town. Overall, the food quality mostly outweighed the hiccup in service and minor price shock. We ordered takeout for pickup, and the service was great. The person helping us was friendly and wore a cool Nintendo 64 shirt--a nice touch! Cuban Sandwich: Delicious and well-executed. Cheesy, gooey goodness with the perfect balance of ham, pork shoulder, and Swiss cheese. The sandwich was nicely toasted, maybe, on the grill or in a panini press, adding that extra crunch. Ham & Swiss Sandwich with Broccoli Cheese Soup: Tasty overall, though the soup could use more broccoli. The flavors were there, but it leaned a little too much on the cheese. Cheddar Burger with Side Salad: Cooked perfectly to medium, with a nicely sized, juicy patty. The side salad was fresh, but the lettuce on the burger itself didn't hold up well--likely due to the heat during the drive home. Swiss Burger: Juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. Friday, my son and I took a drive to our favorite Richmond eatery. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a big smile. It was Sandy herself. I introduced ourselves and shared with her how I've been driving from Cypress to her place since 2000 when It was a house in Rosenberg. The look on her face was gratitude. We ordered, and ate. The food was phenomenal as usual. I just love everything about that place. It feels like home. I also recognized a friendly face there. I don't know his name, but he's an older African American gent. Very nice little eatery. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate our group of 13 during lunch. The food was excellent as always.

My family has been coming here for decades. Everything is top-notch... from scratch. My favorites are the spinach salad, broccoli cheese soup (best you'll ever have) and veggie quiche. The staff is friendly and quick. The restaurant is cozy and has good soft lighting. I purchased a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant and a cup of broccoli cheese soup. The soup was out of this world good! They make their own crustini bread (croutons) and they go great inside the soup instead of boring saltines lol. The chicken salad was not my favorite. It had a little too much mustard in the dressing and the croissant was not buttery and flaky as I was expecting. It was somewhat dense and dry. I would definitely go back for the soup! If I find myself in Madisonville again I will treat myself to more broccoli cheese soup:) If I had enjoyed my sandwich I would have rated this place four starts. read more

What a cute little restaurant! The food was delicious and the wait staff was super friendly! We got an Ann's plate and a Duet-both were so yummy (chicken salad is a MUST!) The fruit is very fresh. I've been eating here for years and am currently serving jury duty just a few blocks down the road. 13 jurors all starving and ready for some delicious Sandy Mcgee's which I hyped up all week. 2/13 jurors food was missing, more than half our order was missing fruit from the box lunches that are on the catering menu. Baliff said the customer service was rude when he ordered as well as when he called to let them know some food was missing. What a bummer, genuinely loved this place. Two stars because the food that did arrive was really good. Sandy McGees is a classic spot in downtown Richmond. They are exceptional! I love their portion sizes and vast menu. Their chicken salad on their buttery croissant role is 10/10. I also really enjoy their classic club. Whether you're feeling a full sandwich with the sides or half sandwich with sides they have options to fit your hunger. They tend to be busy on weekends, but it's worth the wait if you go on a busy day. They are quick to serve your food and have great host and waiters. I love going to Sandy McGees if I'm studying during the week as their atmosphere is relaxing. If you go weekends it's lively during prime hours so even grabbing a drink at their bar is nice! read more

I have never been to a restaurant where the customer service is this bad. I've been coming here for years and the Hispanic lady cashier always has an attitude and is terribly rude. I went in a few days ago for lunch and she's just there chatting away on her phone can't even put it down to acknowledge that I'm standing there. I came here with high hopes eager to check out this hidden gem in Richmond, Texas . A blast from my past as it's been nearly 20 years from dining at this location. Years past the restaurant was small but very bright and inviting. The building was an old Pharmacy/ post office back in the day. You used to order at the soda fountain bar top and pick up your food. Now, it has turned into a bar n grill with darker tones and the feeling of being closed in. I ordered the Duet which was a chicken salad sandwich on wheat bread and broccoli cheddar soup. I tried to order the famous pecan crusted pie but they were out at 15 minutes past noon. The food was good and I might come back to test the pie out at a later date. The only hang up is the staff seemed lost for what people ordered. The clerk at the front would assign your seat and the runners would come up to you asking if what they were holding was your food or what did you order. Overall grade for this location would be a "B-". They passed but could do better. read more

Very good. I enjoyed my lunch at Sandy McGee's. Counter service and they deliver to your table. I love the building and rustic interior. It's got that old time feel without feeling dirty or in disrepair. I ordered the Cancun salad with grilled shrimp. It was very good but said it didn't come with cheese but it had cheese on it when delivered. I was fine with it, but it was a little strange. I did like that the dressing was on the side automatically and you could dress it as much or as little as you want. The salad was good and the shrimp were tasty. My friend ordered the chicken salad on a croissant. Since I had heard so much about the chicken salad, we talked about it. She said it was pretty boring. It needed something more than mayo in it. She would have liked something else -- raisins, grapes, apples, celery, nuts... really anything to make it a little more interesting and flavorful. Overall, the place is cute, the COVID precautions were good, the food was good and I would like to try something different on the menu to see if other items were a little more flavorful. read more

I've been coming here since I was a teenager, but I haven't been in years. It's hasn't changed - still wonderful! You walk into the door on the right and then order at the counter. Once you order, they give you and assigned table and a basket of the most amazing crunchy bread rounds. It all came back to me when I ordered the city secretary and the broccoli cheese soup was as good as I remembered. The fruit was fresh and sweet. The sandwich was a little plainer than I remembered (no avocado now), but it was still delicious. The dining room was divided into smaller rooms, and we sat in the back room. 2nd visit in two weeks, which is a good sign. Pretty diverse menu and I might return to try another dish... On my first visit, I ordered Mr. B's salad, which is a combination of spinach salad, avocados and my choice of chicken salad (other option is grilled chicken). The chicken salad was delicious and the serving size of the entire meal was huge. My family ordered a variety of dishes that they enjoyed, except for the fries..they didn't like the fries. On the second visit, my spouse ordered the parmesean crusted chicken with brussell sprouts and onion rings. Oh my goodness.... that chicken was mouth watering-and had me wishing that I ordered that... Brussell sprouts were really well done too- like a char-grilled flavor with salt and pepper. I ordered the Cobb salad, which was listed as a garden salad with bacon, egg salad, crumbled blue cheese, avocados and chicken slices(i chose fried). The garden salad is advertised as "mixed greens" and, unfortunately, included mostly raw green cabbage and purple cabbage instead of mixed greens. Cabbage doesn't fit my idea of a Cobb Salad. The entire salad itself was a lot of ingredients..maybe too many for my personal choice. Otherwise, the bacon was fresh, egg salad was tasty, blue cheese was delicious and the avocados were ripe and plentiful. I didn't really eat much of the chicken because there was so much other protein in the salad. read more
