Best burgers in Tomball, which is well known for locals, but I had to try the buffalo chicken and it did not disappoint. Perfect breading and sauce combo makes this another great menu options. But yea, the burgers are great too.

I've heard nothing but great things about JLB, and finally tried it. Ordered the Buffalo Bacon Chicken Sandwich with onion rings. Wow! Absolutely delicious and I can't wait to go back and try more menu items. The restaurant was clean and service was wonderful!

I've had their cheese burger and their bacon burger, and both are amazing. The bread is surprisingly light, although at first sight looks like a huge bun, and has a very buttery taste. The hamburger patty itself is juicy and very flavorful without tasting like seasoning, so I assume that it is just very tasty beef. The fries are super crunchy, which is my favorite style for fries. When we've eaten there, there's always a crowd dinning in as well as people pick up takeout, but still you'll get your order in about 20 mins on a busy day

I really wanted to love this place, people seem to like it, but I probably won't go back. They have various locations and this one was just a bit dowdy and depressing. In terms of the food, it was flavorful and they served nice crispy french fries. The burger was very juicy, but it desperately needed to be wrapped in grease paper before being given to a client because it was a good size and trying to hold that soft bun with a double patty resulted in a total mess, with much of it just falling apart and dropping into the plastic basket it was served in. There are no napkins on the table, you have to go to the counter to get them--with a really juicy burger, which it is, you have no idea how many napkins you're going to need and we kept having to go back for more. I needed a proper knife to cut my burger in half to manage it, but realized that the plastic stuff upfront wouldn't do the job. Irritating. The double cheeseburger tasted good, but it was a total mess to eat, a hassle and I'm not sure it's worth it. Desperately needed is a tight wrap so that it can be managed more easily. Fix that and I might go back.

The burgers are gigantic! Love the well-seasoned burgers and homemade buns that had to be created to cover the half-pound beef burger!. The fries are yummy, too! We had to come back here a second time before we fly back home, but this time I ordered the kids burger and it was still a big burger! The service was pretty fast. It's a little hole-in-the -wall, but it's clean and most importantly the restrooms are clean. I had the fish n chips the first time I came here a few days ago and they were delicious!! I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich(meal). It has bacon, ranch, tarot tots. There's no way anyone can finish this. No way!!! As I'm eating this halfway my yoga pants started to roll down. Bun is a bit overpowering but don't think chicken and other ingredients are not enough. For $18 I would definitely share this big sandwich.

I originally came for the burgers, but unexpectedly stayed for the fish sandwiches! The burgers are tasty, but the fish sandwiches are incredible. You choose between London style (flour-battered) or Cajun style (cornmeal, which is my preference), and get an enormous portion of perfectly fried fish on a well buttered bun with a side of tartar sauce. They do not skimp on size or flavor here. There's a good variety of sides and dessert options, but the entrees still shine. I've noticed the service is kind of inconsistent, but ranges from just okay to excellent. Ambiance is fine - typical diner vibes, generally clean, nothing special. Plenty of parking since it shares the vicinity with a Walmart. The menu is large, which can be a bit daunting. I tend to be wary of quality when restaurants offer large menus, but I've come here on several occasions with different people and everything I've tried so far has been delicious. - Ambiance: 3/5 - Food: 5/5 - Service: 4.5/5

First, I purposely waited until the lunch crowd was gone to stop in. This place is crowded most of the time and I wanted to take pictures, so I waited... Lol. Little by little I'm going to work my way through the menu. It's so many burgers, pita sandwiches, fish and chips, cajun wings, desserts and more. There's a burger with beef and chicken together on one patty. The BBQ burger looks tasty! But I had the cajun wings back in June and loved love. The wings were very crispy and it came with two slices of Texas toast and fries. While having the wings, I saw this oversized burger at the next table and I said that would be next on my list. So, today I got the JLB Burger, it too was good and tasty, but I needed a little more cheese which was added once I came home. I'll be back for the Fish and Chips, that's next on my list. But, little me tell you about this cute place, it's very relaxed, the people who eat here for lunch or the crowd that takes up the space the whole weekend are so friendly, neighborhood people shooting the breeze as well as the people who work behind the counter are just as friendly. I like it here!

Why 5 stars? Because this was pretty much everything I hoped it would be. --- --- --- I came across JLB recently and couldn't get the photos of the burgers out of my mind. They looked incredibly appealing, with the buns glistening in such a way that I could hear them chanting my name as I laid my head down on the pillow at night. I shared the Yelp listing with my wife and she did not need much convincing. Off we went. I had hyped these burgers up in my mind pretty substantially, so it's remarkable that they ended up exceeding expectations. The buns were among the best I've ever had -- they looked just like they tasted (buttery), but without being heavy. They did fall apart a bit on my wife's burger, which was cut in half for sharing, but they held up pretty good on mine. The size of these burgers was crazy, but they went down a lot easier than the initial glance led us to believe. The patties were really wide, but not necessarily thick, which made them easier to house. I ordered the BBQ burger and my wife went with the Crazy burger. I loved both, but thought the BBQ was a tad better. If you're interested in the Crazy, but not a big fan of Thousand Island dressing, don't let that deter you, because it's barely detectable. Next time, I will try the Joy Love Burger itself, but wasn't feeling the idea of a burger mixed with chicken. I think the ideal order here might be a BBQ burger with double meat. The fries were also great, and the kids grilled cheese was ideal for our 4-year old. The only knock I would say on this experience is that the girl taking our order definitely did not seem to be in a great mood. Sometimes life sucks, but there's something to be said for even offering half a smile when in a customer service position. The only thing that will hold us back from being regulars here is that we don't live super close, but I definitely would like to keep this on the shortlist when we are in Tomball!

Well another local win. Had a double cheeseburger combo. Don't came with fries and a drink. WOW. The burger was huge and hand pressed! The fries were hot and crisp. The bun had the texture of a croissant and very fresh. Loved the whole meal. I honestly couldn't finish the burger or fries. Just too much food for $18. Come hungry if you get the double! I usually get a double burger but the next time only a single will be plenty! I would get extra cheese next time as well. I just love a lot of cheese on my burgers. Service was quick and very friendly. Nice little place with about 12 tables. I really enjoyed the meal. I'll be back.

THE YUMMIEST BURGERS IN TOWN! My best friend and I are foodies and found this place on yelp. Seriously! We could not stop talking about how amazing our burgers were. A good easy burger place. Restaurant is small with few tables for seating, but there is always a line for to go orders. The food is wonderful, it will make you forget about the long line and slow service. You can't go wrong with anything in the menu-portions are huge. Share the burger. read more

Great sandwiches, super nice staff, clean simple place. Easy location, great parking, food came out timely and super hot. Prices are a good value, not cheap but you get a good serving BUT terrible bland cheap frozen fries. Even with the fries being cooked great they ruined the entire meal. If they upgraded the fries this place would be 6 stars. If they do not I do not think we will go very often if at all as they were just that bland. My wife got the pork chop wrap and I got the avocado bacon chicken sandwich both were outstanding. Really looking forward to trying some others so please please upgrade your fries. read more

Super Duper Large Portions...LoL. Definitely enough for two people to share. Affordable prices. Cashier is ALWAYS friendly! Nothing bad I can say about this place. Food is always cooked fresh to order. I think that delicious bread will get you in trouble though. Love their toast. Location is a cool spot. read more

Rude service who give your order to people who ordered after you and they open your burger and take it back to the counter and they expect you take it when they realized it was your order. Then when you ask them to make a fresh burger that wasn't touched they give you attitude. read more

My friends and I stopped by this restaurant while on a road trip to Houston. Being from Austin, there are many good burger restaurants to eat at, but I have to say, all the food at Joy Love Burgers was amazing. They have such a wide variety of food as well as desserts. My friends and I had the burgers, fried chicken, fried shrimp, and the desserts. It is crazy how there are so many varieties of food and they all came out delicious. The bacon avocado burger is my new favorite burger, the bun was exceptional and the ingredients inside the burger went very well together. The price was more than fair, because the burger was so big! We also tried the French toast, and though I usually do not like french toast, I could eat their French toast everyday. My first impression was very good, my friends and I were greeted with such wonderful and warm customer service. I definitely recommend this restaurant, especially to those who love fried food! read more

I think this is definitely a gem of a restaurant on the rise. There is definite potential. I had the pork chop sandwich and it was MIND BLOWING! It wasn't a tenderloin or frozen pork patty, it was an ACTUAL PORK CHOP! There was a bone! Never in my pork chop loving life would I have EVER put pickles on a pork chop but this WORKED! The bread is beyond texas toast, so light and fluffy! If you love a pork chop -get it. My daughter had a cheeseburger, she didnt offer a bite, it was gone, I assume it was good. My son had the Cajun wings. They were tasty, nice crunch. Only criticism is not enough seasoning. Maybe put some on after they get out of the fryer as well. Restaurant is nice and clean. Staff could have been a bit friendlier, but not horrible. Location is crazy, don't give up you're going the right way. I'll be back but I can't imagine I want to get anything but the PC sandwich...yup, THAT GOOD. read more

So many choices of burgers! Burgers are delicious. I'm not a big fan of the type of bun they use, although my family loves it. The bun is a little greasy on top for me, I like mine plainly toasted and a little dense and soft in texture. Their bun is light and airy. Staffs are always helpful and pleasant. The music is a little loud. Clean and bright place, aesthetically pleasing. I like their chalk board wall. Try the French toast (I think that's what they are). Their humongous and yummy! read more

I was searching for a new spot to eat for dinner with the family and found this spot close to the house. I viewed the menu online and saw they have a lot of options. My husband ordered a burger with onion rings, the kids got chicken tenders and my sister and myself got the fish and shrimp. The food was hot and perfectly seasoned.The portions are large and we had left overs. If your in a rush it's better to call in your order ,it was pretty busy .Will be coming back to try other items on the menu . read more

Excellent burgers! Just a tad salty but still very good. The homemade buns are excellent! We have been looking for a good burger place ever since Just Burgers closed and that has been a long time. Ohhh Emm Gheeee!!!! This place is crazy good!!! I've been wanting to come here for months, and FINALLY made my way here!!! Upon entry....the huge menu stares you right in your face with all kind of goodies!! It's a pretty small spot, kinda has a donut shop feel to it. I finally settled on getting a buffalo chicken burger and it was CRAZY good!! The buns are house made daily, and soft and buttery!! Not too much sauce, and it had tater tots on it also!! My wife and I split a side of their "crazy fries, and these things were ridiculously delicious!! They combine fries, curly fries, tater tots, and waffle fries....then smother them with cheese and grilled chicken breast! It's actually so big that they must know can't finish it there, because it comes in a styrofoam to go plate!! They were right, because we only got halfway done and had to take the rest home!! We also ordered some buffalo shrimp that were just as good as the chicken sandwich! I figure to post a lot more from this place, as their menu has a plethora of items I have to try such as the decked/layered sandwiches that all come with egg, or the wraps that the couple next to me had that looked good!! If you're looking for a place that had great food at reasonable prices...this is it!!! read more

Nice to see a good burger place in the Cypress / Tomball area. Fantastic burgers, fries, fried fish and shrimp, etc. Our party had a burger, chicken sandwich with bacon and avocado, fried pork chop sandwich and fish and shrimp baskets. All outstanding. Only issue: TV's mounted on the wall with sound. I prefer to dine with conversation and a little background music. Friendly staff, small restaurant space but very clean and inviting. Give them a try. You'll be glad you did! read more

This is the best burger I've had in a very long time. The burgers are huge so splitting is recommended, they even offer to cut in half. The buns are made fresh everyday, they are so good and soft. I'm telling everyone I know that they must try this place. I've only tried the Tomball location and look forward to trying the others. My only complaint is that the place is really small, they should think about expanding. read more

Wow! What a gem. And so close to home. Bacon Avacado Burger delicious, and as big as your head. Love it when the burger is cooked the way I order it. All of the ingredients were fresh. Buns are brioche. They happened to have these huge brioche French toast pieces in the display counter; length and width the size of your head. The couple next to us recommended them. OMG. That was the BEST French Toast I have EVER tasted. Not a breakfast place; but I heard the owner is a pastry/ desert chef. Wow! P.S. The staff was pleasant and helpful, and the atmosphere was clean. read more

Honestly, the food is good. But I agree with a few other posts. Substituted tots for fries, and it was a 3 dollar up charge. You're ripping off your customers! I could get both for 1 dollar more! It has to be an issue in the computer. Please fix this. It should be a dollar or MAYBE 2 tops! Just kinda wish you would look out for that. 2 burgers, sub curly fries, sub tots, 27$ read more

First time visiting on 11/14/17 and unfortunately I was not impressed. They use MSG in their food and I could taste it. You can request they not use it but they shouldn't use it in the first place. And if they use MSG, they should have warnings before you order to let you know the food is prepared with MSG. The cheeseburger I ordered was so-so. I would not come back for it. Fries were nothing special and mine didn't even have any special seasoning on them that I had heard so much about and was so looking forward to. They were just ordinary fat, tasteless french fries. Drink cups were one-size fits "small." issue was I also bought a fried pork chop sandwich. The pork chop was very thin and they fried it to a near beef-jerky like crisp. And of course, it tasted like MSG. I will not come back; didn't even want to go back to get a refund. read more

Add in the chili and you will be happy when you dine here. My only negative is the price. No combos here so you pay list price for each item. I'm glad I finally gave in to curiosity. This spot was already jumping on a Friday evening around 6 PM. They had live music, a solo artist singing and playing guitar, and the whole atmosphere felt lively and upbeat. It gave me "Urban Cowboy" vibes in the best way. The southern hospitality was definitely there. It's family-oriented, pet-friendly, and apparently Friday nights are the only time you can catch them frying up catfish and shrimp. Customer service was a mix of good and just okay. The lady taking our order was polite, but not very friendly, maybe she's just not the best with social skills. You walk up to the outside window to order (like my husband and I did). We were told there'd be about a 45-minute wait, which we were fine with. They gave us a pager to let us know when the food was ready, and luckily we found a table in the packed dining area where we could enjoy the entertainment while we waited. We sipped on margaritas on the rocks and took in the scene. I was honestly surprised at how good they were, especially with the Tajín on the rim. Delicious and strong. For some reason, we were served crinkle-cut fries instead of their usual authentic-cut fries, aka "crappy fries," which confused us a little, but it wasn't a big deal. The fish and shrimp were fried to perfection, crunchy, succulent, and full of flavor. The shrimp tasted fresh with that ocean-seafood flavor. The fish tasted a little less fresh to me (slightly on the stale side), but it was still good overall. Complaints Pet-friendly: They allow dogs and cats to roam around the dining area while customers are eating, which is just not my cup of tea. I get that it's outdoor dining, but not everyone enjoys animals up close while they're trying to eat. There was a dog roaming and sniffing guests, and a cat doing the same. Luckily neither one made their way to my table. Another complaint is the styrofoam plate issue: Our dinner was served on a styrofoam plate without the paper lining to keep the hot food from melting into the styrofoam. I don't mind styrofoam, but please add the liner, especially for hot fried food. We noticed other customers had the lining, but we didn't. Maybe it was just a slip-up, who knows. It was decent enough, but certainly not memorable, especially at the price point. My wife ordered the salmon, which managed to achieve a level of dryness usually reserved for desert climates. The real star of the show, however, was the vegetables and not in a good way. If you're looking to dramatically increase your sodium intake, you've come to the right place. The vegetables were overcooked, soggy, and so aggressively salted that I briefly wondered if the chef had sourced the water directly from the Dead Sea. Every bite felt like a challenge to my blood pressure. We also ordered the Combo Stir Fry Udon. The noodles were perfectly edible, but the accompanying vegetables suffered the same fate: limp, overcooked, and swimming in what tasted like concentrated seawater. In the end, the biggest issue is the disconnect between price and quality. The restaurant presents itself as a premium dining experience, but the food simply doesn't justify the cost. Clean restaurant, courteous staff, average entrées, and vegetables that could preserve a mummy. Sadly, not a place I'd rush back to for another birthday.

TL:DR it is a solid choice for a special experience and a great steak. I would go again. We started off with a couple of mocktails: The Blood Orange Fizz and the mint virgin Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned was a very tasty concoction--no alcohol burn of course but it captured the sharpness of an Old Fashioned and I really liked the mint. The Blood Orange Fizz was a mild disappointment--it had very little fizz and really needed it. Flavor was OK but not as good flat. We later got a bourbon flight, which was delivered by the bourbon sommelier and was quite fun. For starters we got a wedge salad, the Steakhouse Meatballs, and the Bacon Wrapped Scallops. The salad was fine, a standard garden salad with nice fresh ingredients. The meatballs were excellent--a steak and pork belly blend with a blueberry pepper sauce with onion strings. Great texture, lots of umami and good salt flavor. I absolutely want these next time. Same with the bacon wrapped scallops. They come on a bed of 3-cheese grits that were wonderfully creamy. The sauce has just a little heat. The scallops and bacon were cooked just right. Their seafood entrees are served over these grits, and though we didn't get any seafood I would try some next time for the grits. On to the mains: We had the Refuge Filet, the New York Strip, the Wood-fired Chicken, and the pork chop. The Refuge Filet was the highlight--the jalapeno, bacon and bleu cheese really complement the steak flavor. The steak was impeccably tender and done just right. The New York Strip was also very good. I am not a fan of this cut--when I cook it at home it's always tough. But their version is reasonably tender and has great flavor from the tallow butter they put on it. The steaks came with mashed potatoes that were pretty bland and ordinary. The wood-fired chicken was tender and had good flavor. It is marinated in lemon but we couldn't really taste it except in the bed of risotto. The risotto was quite good, nice and creamy. The pork chop was complicated. It had a tender uniform texture all the way through and nice flavor. I couldn't find any grain in it, almost like it was a fine grind. The sauce was ok, a bit one-note sweet for me. Different from and perhaps better than Perry's chop, but I think I would try something else next time. These dishes came with Apple-Bacon Brussels Sprouts and roasted carrots. The brussels sprouts were a disappointment. Might have known since it's misspelled on the menu. The brussels sprouts were barely cooked and quite tough, with too much of the bottom stem left on, adding to the bitterness. The roast carrots were fine. Since we had a birthday in the party we were treated to a special dessert. Birthday dessert at The Refuge has two major advantages--a nice tableside presentation of bread pudding flambe, and no annoying birthday song. Yay! Definitely tell them it's your birthday. The dessert is a banana bread pudding topped with ice cream. Rather uniform texture but good flavor and excellent with the ice cream. The ambiance is appropriately dark and sumptuous for a fancy steakhouse. The bathrooms are upscale, with available cloth towels. Service was fine but at a pretty relaxed pace, I definitely felt ready for the next course before it came. But we at times requested things from waiters other than the one waiting our table, and they responded immediately--good teamwork. This is not a bargain place, but we got out for under $100 apiece which I actually think is pretty good for an end-to-end meal. If you go to a steakhouse for steaks, you will do well at The Refuge.

But overall it was a decent experience.

This was a disappointment because we were here to celebrate my other half's birthday. So it wasn't off to a great start. We picked something else and by the time we got our food, it was cold. As Murphy's Law would have it, I get a serious client on the NW side of town. Being from Sugarland, anything north of I-10 seems a No Man's Land to me. Famished bc I just worked with a client on death, and I am geographically out of my element, I had to use Yelp and Waze, to Joy Love Burger. I suppose the name is the exact contradiction I wanted. Waze told me to turn freaking left at a Walmart??! I only had an idea this is a Korean-owned place. It was a weekday, lunch-ish time. I walked in and was stunned. Everyone was VERY large and very working class. Also, I was the only Asian. Customers averaged a minimum of 40#+ overwt. That usually makes me head out the door without trying the place. (Since my non-Texas years, I've been allaying corporatized food cravings by saying to myself, "Open the door. Look at the clientele. Lose your craving!") Even though I was in yoga clothes, I was the dressed up person in the room. Seriously. The whole room turned to look at me, and for freakin quite a while. I got self conscious about doing a u-turn in front of everyone after the likely revealing shock on my face at the sight of them. I was wholly unprepared that I would even need a poker-face play option. Good thing I stayed. I always triple my patties when I can, but I only saw a double patty option. There might have been a triple patty option, but I was in a rush to leave the stares and repeating glances. The burger was HUGE! Even without doubling the patty. It was delicious too! Densely seasoned. Texture was not cheap/fluffed w lesser ingredients. Taste was flavorful. Bread was curiously perfect; Fluffy, buttery, gentle sweetness --and maintained its form despite the juicy, heavy patties and burger accoutrements. That bun is a physics marvel! I never like cheese on my red meats. There was a small bit between the patties, so I'm guessing they laid one in, out of habit, then took off what they could. (There are a few things I am naturally kosher about, but never things I'm religiously kosher about.) The burger was so tasty that I finished it, even though it was ginormous! I had to pack my waffle fries for later. EXCELLENT crispness, with the right balance of interior potato density and softness. Needless to say that was my meal for the day. However, I'm certain that it was likely a two-day caloric splurge. Service: Staff was cool with each other and cool with all us clientele. Reflects very well on the behind-the-scenes workings of the business. Friendly, courteous, almost family-like. Very pleasant staff. I didn't realize the up-charge for the waffle fries, but the cashier was very relaxed on remedying my situ. Ambiance: CLEAN. The tables and chairs are diner style. Retro-ish. I want to return! I ordered a cheeseburger and chili/cheese fries from here on December 2. After eating the burger my stomach started hurting immediately. I didn't think much of it until 4 am the next morning. I woke up at 4 am to diarrhea and vomiting. It did not end until 6 pm that day. I'm 100% sure I got sick from this place. I won't be returning. read more

First time visiting. The was Great food. It was fresh, hot, and well seasoned. Nice big portion sizes. Great prices too! The service was good and we will definitely be visiting again as there are many things in he menu that look great. read more

We were in the area for a few days and ate here for 3 days straight! Everything was fresh and delicious. We tried burgers, onion rings, fries, wings, and quesadillas. You can't go wrong! read more
