After several check-in's here, a review's due. Solid small town bar with good service, offering the "usuals" in beer. We enjoy downing some beers and playing trivia here on Tuesday nights! Best bargain is the $2.99 burger (no sides), but still haven't tried one completely yet - only stolen bites of my co-diners' burgers. Great service (the bartender is pretty and friendly - what a combo!) Personable (met the owner & see below) -- Major kudos for the fact that they reach out to their customers and make them feel valued. Our spot for entertainment on a random weeknight (Tuesday night trivia, game machine, live DJ/music ... events happening pretty much all week) Great selection of mixed drinks - at around $8 or so, you can get whatever you want, however you want it! read more

*Live music (awesome). *Low-lighting means the place is a warm place to tuck away and have a pint. *Pub has much Irish influence (yay for celebrating my Celtic heritage!). *Music: good playlist, perfect volume, jukebox opportunities! *The game was on, but conversation is the main attraction. *The wait staff was lovely! -Sure it was just the cook and the bartender, but they were quite hospitable! The bartender was unsure of what was in our drinks - but looked them up, shook them up, and poured 'em out (YUM!). *Delicious drink selection (prince $8.00-$9.00 for martini's): I highly recommend the "Nuts&Berries" *Trivia Tuesdays (more excuses to get out on the weeknights and live it up!). I enjoy my time in this bar thoroughly.. they seem to just get it. If you read most of my reviews you will notice a trend. i am far from a high-maintenance patron. I like good beer, good drinks, good service, good food, and good atmosphere... I like to see when a staff knows just how to do all these things.. I'm not looking to be fawned over. Add Joco's to the list of relaxed spots that just gets it.. a cozy, congenial atmosphere and all of the aforementioned traits that make a bar feel like your local even when it's not. If i lived closer to Waltham this would be mine.. Plenty of screens if you want to watch the game.. a decent juke... all i need.. I'm not sure if they upgraded the beer list after some of the previous reviews, but i found it to be pretty well rounded for a 'burbs bar and there is no way there isn't SOMETHING for you beer nerds to like.. i drink all kinds and there was plenty of choice there for me... Whoa. This might be the best bar food I've had in Waltham. The BLT was on some good, crusty bread instead of simple toast, which was an instant success. SIde salad came in a bowl and was decent instead of just being some plain leafs and generic vinaigrette. Single malt side whisky was great too. Speaking of that, they've got a good selections of drinks, including a whisky and martini menu. I think they do music and karaoke at some point too. One of the smallest bars in Waltham. Service has always been shotty. Clientele can be hit or miss, mostly miss. They have a jukebox. Some nights you can find a one man band playing live music. Other nights they have karaoke. Not much more I can tell ya about Joco's, other than it's on the typical pub crawl list. I got Death's Door whiskey here. I also sampled some of their seasoned fries and had a veggie burger with regular french fries of my own. I picked this spot for a work get together for 12 people. It was the middle of the week, so there was enough room for all of us. I would love to give this place a star or two but I can't. My fiends and I went to Joco's for a Patriots game. The place was somewhat crowded not overly packed. We ordered appetizers and it took forever for them to arrive at the table. My friend and I ordered chicken tenders. It was so crunchy (which they shouldn't have been) and hard. One friend ordered meatball sliders and the bun was a burnt mini bagel. And he didn't like the meatballs he said it was the worst meal he ever had. Another fiend had the burger sliders and they said they where very dry. Another friend ordered the chili and it was literally meat sauce and Tabasco sauce and corn (there is not suppose to be corn in chili), the tortilla chips where very stale: The big turn off to this restaurant is one of my friends went to the bathroom and saw two cockaroches. This was not a good experience and we all didn't like it. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone at all. read more

Stopped in here for a quick beer while waiting to meet my coworkers at Boca Bar down the street. I had some time to kill and was basically sampling what Moody Street had to offer on a Thursday night... This is a cool little spot. Big screen TV's and cheap beer. I think it was Joco behind the bar...and he was really friendly and asked if I wanted to order some food. I was only there for a quick drink but checked out the menu anyway. Very reasonably priced. There were some locals in there that definitely knew I hadn't been in there before, but no hassle. A guy was coming in and setting up for some live music for the night...but I had to bounce and head to my next spot. I'll definitely come back, grab some food, and stay a little longer. read more

I first reviewed this place in 2011, shortly after buying a house nearby. I loved it then and they have improved so much! First let's talk bar tacos. They have really goddamn tasty bar tacos. They are very simple, but with fresh ingredients and cheap. They do free wings on Fridays. These wings started off as "well they are OK and hey, free wings" and now are "These are some tasty wings" They've added taps (not sure exact count, but at least 20 I would say). The place has gone a bit more upscale and more beer-nerd friendly in the past few years. I think they have 1 throwaway tap (bud lite?) with the rest being a constantly rotating and creative mix of crafts. They tend to have too many IPAs sometimes, but that's something I quite like. Also, the (amazing!) Gaff across the street usually limits their IPAs to 1 or 2 (total respect) so it makes Joco's a perfect complement. The staff are great. The owners super nice. The food is really decent. This is very much a neighborhood pub and a really good one. As mentioned, the Gaff is across the street. When I say the Gaff is the best craft beer bar in New England, I'm insulting the Gaff. It's amazing at that one thing, while also having great cocktails and pretty good (but very limited) food menu (and a very well done interior). It's also way too small and too popular. Jocos is the perfect alternate and allows us to trek down to the area without hesitation, knowing we'll find good seats somewhere. Jocos does get crowded at peak times, but it's somewhat bigger and has more elbow room in general. read more

I went here on a Monday to try their 25 cent wings. The boyfriend and I got 10 wings (we weren't very hungry) a bread plate and two Heinekens. The beers were $5 a piece which was ok but not the best. The bread plate was around $6 which was overpriced for what it was. Should be priced around $4. A good amount of bread served with flavored oil and some sort of goat cheese concoction that tasted great but looked like vomit. Wings were very good and very fresh, and for $2.50 ten wings was perfect. The waitress/bartender was very nice but she seemed like she needed someone else there to help, she didn't have a spare second the whole two hours we were there. For $20 it was a good night, but would have been even better if we would have skipped the beers and just had some when we got home. I'll definitely be back for more wings but probably not a bread plate or a Heineken. They probably sell other beers much cheaper and i would get more enjoyment out of $6 of fries than $6 of bread. We come here every Tuesday for the trivia...we absolutely love it! Service feels like family. We missed them all summer while we were away! Food is best bang for your buck and the beer selections always give us room to explore new things! BUT mostly, the trivia. It is AWESOME. Lisa, the trivia host, is the absolute best. We used to live here in Waltham and it was our date night. Then we moved to Natick...so we still come here on Tuesdays for date night because of how much fun we have with Lisa and Hailey (bartender). read more

This is the closest decent bar to our house and I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Great prices on drinks, nice flat screens to watch the game, and decent trivia on Tuesday nights (although it's not Stump! trivia so be ready for the host to give you lots of hints and to play name that tune with songs you've never heard of). It's never too crowded and when it's nice out they open up the windows to let some fresh air in. It may not be the most exciting bar in the world, but it's better than spending $10 cover to get into the Skellig. read more

Been to Joco's on a couple of occasions and I must say it's a pretty nice addition to the Moody St lineup. The drinks are tasty, the service is attentive, and the crowd, while usually mostly regulars, is still pretty chill. The bar has a bit of a weird vibe. It's going for an upscale / ultra-modern look (lots of chrome, glass, and neon makes me feel like I'm drinking on the Starship Enterprise) but the clientele isn't uppity and neither is the staff. More importantly, the pricing isn't upscale, which is nice for my cheap ass. I don't know what Scotti V. is smoking, but the place has no touches of Irish pub, unless you consider serving Guiness a touch. Perhaps exposed brickwork is Irish? *shrug* Anyway, I'll definitely be back to this place. There aren't many places where I can talk with my coworkers for Friday happy hour, put on some heels and hang out with my girlfriends on Saturday, and nurse my hangover with some football on Sunday. read more

I've been here very Monday for the past month and a half. They have a great wing night and beer selection. 25 cent wings all night. You can get the wings in any combination of flavors (2 BBQ, 5 plain, 3 maple buffalo, etc). They have a large selection of flavors and the wings come with celery and ranch or blue cheese at no additional charge. The wings are crispy and delicious. The staff is very friendly. I've only ever been on a Monday from around 5:30-8, but it's never been overly crowded. They have other great specials like burger and beer for $5 on Tuesdays, half priced apps during a Patriots game, and free wings from 4-6 on Fridays!!! They also have live music Wednesday-Saturday with no cover. It's my new favorite spot!!! read more

Saw some positive reviews, so I knew it would be good, but I wasn't expecting to be as blown away as I was. As the first restaurant I've tried since moving to Waltham, I'm worried it set the bar too high. It's small, but very nice and comfortable, and as soon as we walked in the servers were friendly, helpful, and very attentive. We ordered some wings and mozzarella sticks as an appetizer on a whim (the wings were 25 cents), and tried the extensive beer menu. When our food came, we were shocked. They were some of the best wings I've ever had, as were the mozzarella sticks. Soon after, our burgers came which were equally as fantastic. Hand-cut french fries are a nice departure from the usual frozen fare, and the buns they used for the burgers were crispy and tasted great. Overall, we were extremely impressed, and can't wait for the next chance to come back. read more

I was at work and craving buffalo chicken tenders. I ordered on Grubhub. Delivery was fine. The tenders were not so good. Smelled terrible, almost musty. Overcooked and almost looked and tasted like they were reheated. The blue cheese dipping sauce was generic brand in the little plastic bag packet. Was yellow and oily. Pretty sure blue cheese dressing isn't supposed to look like that . Nothing was good about the food. Took a bite and put the whole order in the garbage. Very disappointed read more

I've been going to this bar for about 6 months now. The $2 high lifes brought me in the door and the good food and awesome staff kept me coming back. I also may have gift certificates to use that make it an extremely cheap night, but even without them I would be a regular anytime I was in the area. The $2 high lifes don't exist anymore and have been replaced with $11 pitchers of Coors Light. That is fine by me and cheap enough to split with a friend. I tend to go during the week or early in the night on weekends so most of the time there are only a few parties. The staff is friendly and the service is quick (even on the nights where there were pub crawls and larger parties there) I've never stayed for any of the entertainment because a small bar & loud band isn't my style, but it is a great place to grab cheap dinner & drinks before the night really starts. read more

Hopped over a little bummed after learning The Gaff across the street was packed. But had a positive turn of events! Went out w friends after work for appetizers and drinks. It was a little unclear in the beginning who was helping, but once we sought help was acquainted by an immensely enthusiastic, gregarious bartender who helped us with our order for the night. This is a terrific, neighborhood bar with great live music, drinks and even food. They have a few televisions so you can watch the game as well. The staff was attentive and prompt and the prices were excellent. Finding parking around there isn't bad and the food I ordered was excellent. I had the roastbeef BBQ sandwich and it was amazing. Seriously! The live music was good and the people there were local. A nice change from Boston's scene. The only negative about this place is that it's fairly small so it gets packed quickly. read more

This review is only for the late Friday night entertainment. So I'm not normally a fan of the Kings of Leon but the band at Joco's did an awesome rendition of Use Somebody. Then came Phish's Heavy Things followed by an MJ song and a few others I wasn't familiar with. The Scarlet Begonias into LA Woman segue was flawless and both songs were superb. I could have done without Don't Stop Believing but CSN's Southern Cross was a nice added touch. As for the service - it was great. And prompt. I'll try to stop by here again for food and/or earlier-in-the-night drinking and give an update if that experience happens to be less than stellar. read more

Went here on a Monday at 7pm. It was wing night so it took two hours to get our food. They gave us a free shot to make up for it, but they messed up one girls order. The steak tips were incredibly chewy. When we asked for the bill we got separate checks and gave our cards individually with each receipt. Never coming back! There were bugs in my beer and the french fries were soggy and tasteless. I went in after 10pm because no other restaurants had an open kitchen. The bartender wasn't sure what the grapefruit beer tasted like so he poured me a sample. He glimpsed at something in the cup but handed it to me anyway. There were at least six gnats floating in it. He didn't bother to flush the tap which means someone else could end up with bugs in their beer after me. read more

This is yet another disappointing food establishment on Moody St. Maybe I hit it at the wrong time, but almost everything about the experience was below average. Two bartenders on and neither seemed to care about checking in for drinks/refills. The fastest they moved was when their shift ended (while we were eating dinner) and they wanted to cash out so they could leave. The food was unspectacular. My steak tips were fatty and had little seasoning. My wife's chicken sandwich had cheese on top that looked like it was microwaved on. The $2 upcharge for a side salad got her a cucumber and onion and some lettuce. The best meal was my kid's hot dog which actually looked good. Maybe this isn't a good place but I can't see how it supports itself with a staff that seems so lacking in service. read more

This is a solid option for a bar in the Waltham area. Yes it is small, and other than a jukebox and a small video game machine at the end of the bar there isn't much in thrills. But it has plenty of TV's, good vibe and crowd, and regularly have a good live, local band. A strong beer selection, great whiskey/bourbon drinks, and other worthwhile cocktails. The best part might be the food. Not only the normal bar & grill food, but some rarely seen food at a bar. Good prices too! All in all, the place is easy to miss and at first glance people might be unsure. But thats perfect for the regular crowd that goes here. A good option for all different crowds. read more

The bottom line about Jocos is that there are better bars on Moody Street. It is fine for what it is, a neighborhood dive bar, but overall it was a little dirty and the service was not great. We ordered drinks and food, all which were okay, but weren't that cheap and the waiter was slow and at times, extremely uncomfortable - hitting on members of our party unwelcomingly. It seemed popular with the local Waltham crowd, but definitely not with younger students. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT EAT HERE!! I used to be a server and I never complain about food or service but this place was ridiculous. Our food took over an hour and a half to come out and the owner accused my friends and I of having fake IDs ( we are all 21). When our food finally came out some things were missing and some did not come out right and when we told him he said he we should just go. After we got our meal comped he started throwing away our food and he yelled at my friend saying that she was fucked up for cheering when we got our food for free (which we didn't even get to eat the food because he threw it away in front of us and she didn't even cheer when we got our food compensated). Overall the FOOD IS NOT VERY GOOD and the manager is RUDE AF!! The server was lovely and we still tipped her at the end; she definitely deserves better than working for that guy. If you want good food there are plenty of good places for the same price in that area. GO TO THE GAFF WHICH IS NEXT DOOR IT IS MUCH BETTER AND WAY MORE WORTH IT read more

I really wish I could give this place a better review because the food is usually pretty tasty. However, it's very inconsistent. I've ordered the same wrap twice, once with it being one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. The next time I ordered it, it was dry with no sauce and barely any taste. And here's another thing that really ticks me off....deceptive business practices. I ordered their steak tip special which boasted a full POUND of steak for just 16 dollars. When I got the food, I felt so cheated. I've been a competitive body builder for 10 years now...I know what a pound of meat looks like by now and this sure as HELL ain't it. If I had to estimate, they maybe gave me 6-7 ounces. That's right. Six...ounces. For 16 dollars. Complete rip off and very dishonest. Won't be back. read more

Joco's has become one of my locals now! My husband and I frequent Joco's at least once a week. Firstly location is convenient right on Moody Street. Secondly the owner and bartenders are so friendly and seem to be genuine people. You will never be left needing another beer because they are already on it! The atmosphere is that of a nicely done (and newly done) pub - with front windows that open up and are great to drink at in good weather and people watch! A Juke Box, Dart Board, Bar-Top video games, and Flat screen TV's all add to the customer's enjoyment. On the weekends they provide live music and DJ's depending on the night of week. The food menu is small limited to sandwiches, soups and salads however I have never gone wrong with anything I have ordered (Grilled Cheese and Tomato Panini is my Fave!) I'm a big big fan! read more
