I showed up right when they opened (actually a few minutes early without realizing it), and the employee couldn't have handled it more kindly - super humble and still so welcoming! I had plans to bring the Christian Singles Hub to watch the sunrise by the bridge nearby, but the weather turned out to be gross. Thankfully, this place was so comfy and inviting that we ended up staying for about three hours instead. I was really grateful that no one rushed us out, especially since it got really busy around 8am. The staff stayed friendly and upbeat even with the early crowd, which was impressive. The space itself is cozy, warm, and has such good energy. I ordered the carrot cake muffin, easily the best I've ever had, and a pumpkin latte that was just as great. I loved that their muffins are made with real, wholesome ingredients and that their portion sizes feel balanced and mindful. Their large latte is about the same size as a small at some other places, which I appreciated: just enough to energize me without that overly-full, jittery feeling. The ONLY Joes I will go to is on Hicks street in Brooklyn Heights. I have been going there for years now and they are the best location. The vibes there are immaculate, the people who work there are super kind and always friendly even early in the morning. There is a tall guy with dreads, who does. not. fail. every coffee he makes is perfectly done. There is a reason its always packed. Additionally stay away from the DUMBO Joes location unless you want to wait 15 mins for your coffee while the manager sits and talks to her friend and then screams that SHES COMING HOLD ON.. and then slaps a disheveled latte on the counter and runs back to sit down.. a mess. Stick to hicks street every employee there is a 10/10 and the coffee is always on point. read more

As an update to my previous review - when I ordered an iced latte and received a prebatched chilled espresso mixed with milk "Coldstretto - the future of cold espresso" rather than a freshly pulled double shot... It turns out you can get the regular fresh espresso if you ask for it. But their new method for iced lattes is using the Coldstretto refrigerated mix in (for the same price of $6.50). I suppose some people prefer this, and for sure it's easier for the staff. In terms of flavor, I'm 100% ordering an iced latte with the traditional pulled espresso. I have been to Joe coffee on multiple occasions and each time it is an absolute treat! The coffee is great, the service is wonderful, and the vibe is just as you would expect with a mini chain! Somehow it took me over 6 months to check out this cozy neighborhood coffee shop in Brooklyn Heights! I blame it on all the other cute coffee/pastry spots on Montague/Smith Streets, and the fact that this one feels deep in the Fruit Streets of BH. When I popped in this past weekend, I immediately noticed how friendly/quiet the vibe was in here. There were kids and coloring books, folks reviewing resumes/manuscripts (?), and your usual weekend late morning coffee drinkers. I love that it didn't feel super rushed/loud the way that most of NYC feels to me. Despite there being a line, things moved quickly and people would come and go so there was no need to wait long for a table whether it was inside or out on their little deck area lined with fresh green herbs. Onto the food and drink! I got an iced americano - I love that they don't charge extra for different milks here! I got a nice roasty/toasty flaor from my drink that I enjoyed, and I also tried the plain croissant and citrus/olive oil mini bundt. The bundt was lovely, and the croissant wasn't bad but it definitely tastes like a Costco croissant that would benefit from a nice lil toasting. read more

This was the best chai I've had in a long time. It was perfectly sweet and so creamy. The spices were strong and the overall flavor very satisfying. Super friendly staff, delicious bakery goodies: we ordered a chocolate chip scone, pistachio cardamom bread, and breakfast bar. All with a rating of mmm-mmmm-mmmmm! First of all Location, Location, Location. This is a well situated coffee shop next to Brooklyn bridge and Dumbo. You can either enjoy their drink within their premises or take it to the nearest park at Dumbo to enjoy the view or sunset. The service is nice, however they missed my drink in the order but hey thats a human error. When i reminded them, they quickly worked on it. I tried their Turmeric latte which is a very tricky drink i feel. Slight mismatch on the turmeric ratio and your tastebuds will not forgive you through out the day. But i guess they have mastered the art of the Turmeric magic. Turmeric is believed to have antiseptic characteristics so definitely a good choice for chilly NY days. Mocha was so so, not bad but regular stuff nothing special about it. If you around Brooklyn Bridge or Dumbo, definitely stop by and hola at them. This is my favorite place to grab coffee in the neighborhood. There's plenty of seating, and the corner on which it's situated allows for tons of sunlight. Best of all, they have oat milk available! I believe this is the only sit-down cafe in the area with lots of dairy alternatives, as Lassen & Hennings is more grab 'n go, unless you want to schlep over to Brooklyn Roasting Company in Dumbo. I have to give credit where credit's due I decided to try this place again after a ~6 month hiatus because of the previous bad experiences I had in the fall. I try to keep an open mind and give people/business second chances and it works out more often than not! They seemed to have drastically improved the process of churning customers. The lady who would yell out about being at capacity had a MUCH friendlier tone with people compared to the fall. What would normally be a 30-40 minute process to get coffee has been cut down to 10-15 minutes. They also stopped the whole tip-shaming bit I mentioned in my last review. They now have it like other places where an iPad is presented to the customer to confirm a tip without telling the cashier. I would say overall the staff seemed more with the program as a whole and more professional compared to when I would visit last year. All that aside- the coffee at this place is pretty good. I had their latest seasonal drink (Spiced Cookie Latte) and it was delicious! I don't normally do flavored coffee but this place does it nicely where they don't over-do it and ruin the coffee like most other places. Only areas of improvement I could still recommend to management is the speediness of the coffee making and the price. Call me cheap but $7 for coffee in Brooklyn seems steep! Makes this more of an occasional treat than a regular place to pick up coffee. Kudos to this Joe Coffee location for improving! I'll be coming back from time to time and urge the other people who also complained about the poor service to give them a second shot too- I'm glad I did! read more

This place definitely gives a little something back to the area with its chill vibes and open feel. The first time I went to Joe's I was immediately attracted by the color scheme and architecture of the place. Secondly I was really impressed by the employees; they all sync so well and are on top of their job. I had ordered a iced coffee and a chocolate chip cookie, which easily was my favorite. I don't drink a lot of coffee because of the side effects I get after consuming but I can tell they make a good cup. I go for the hot chocolate with a marshmallow in it! Really great coffee and typically a great vibe but spent a few hours there this evening in which the two baristas blasted a mix between heavy metal / electronic the entire time. Never been to a coffee shop with such loud and abrasive music! (Since it was a holiday, I got the feeling they wanted people to leave so they could close up.) Multiple people looked upset and tried putting on headphones. After not being able to listen to my music without hearing the background music, I asked one of them politely to turn down the music. She gave me a pretty dirty look, replied sure, and did nothing. When I returned to my seat, two other customers thanked me. Half hour later, the music was literally someone screaming at the top of their lungs and was not any lower. I asked again politely and they said they would turn it down. They did not ever turn down the music and continued to play it at full volume. One person got up to leave and told me they tried asking too but had no luck. I left with a horrible headache.
