We were warmly greeted upon arrival at the restaurant by a very kind gentleman, who we later learned was the owner. The space is tastefully decorated with nautical and ocean-inspired elements, featuring navy blue and white walls. Our waiter was immediately aware of my food allergies and my husband's celiac condition. He guided us through the menu with confidence, offering thoughtful recommendations based on our dietary restrictions and personal tastes. Many of the dishes could be customized in terms of preparation and side choices, which we appreciated. For drinks, my husband ordered his usual--a margarita--while I decided to try something new and went with the Backyard Iced Tea. His margarita was freshly made and even better served in a Yankees glass. The Backyard Iced Tea was fantastic--refreshing, not too sweet (which I loved), and it truly tasted like iced tea with a hint of lemon. Unlike a Long Island Iced Tea, it wasn't overly alcoholic or sugary, which suited my preferences perfectly. For dinner, my husband ordered one of the specials: Cajun-style red snapper with a side of sautéed spinach and a house salad (no croutons, with blue cheese dressing). I chose the broiled trio--lobster tail, shrimp, and cod--along with sautéed spinach and a house salad dressed with balsamic vinaigrette. Everything was delicious. The salads were fresh, and the balsamic dressing was excellent. My seafood was perfectly cooked and seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, and paprika, then served with lemon and clarified butter. Honest Review of Our Experience at Joe Willie's I rarely leave reviews, and I'm not someone who complains at restaurants. But I left our dinner last night feeling unsettled, and I've been thinking about it ever since. Maybe there was a miscommunication, but the way things unfolded felt unnecessarily uncomfortable. I went to dinner with my best friend and my boyfriend because I was craving a lobster roll, and there aren't many places around here that make one properly. I ordered the lobster roll, she ordered the surf & turf, and he ordered chicken. We each got our own appetizers -- all were good, no issues. When dinner arrived, things changed. My lobster roll tasted...off. Mildly fishy in a way lobster shouldn't. The portion was small, and the mashed potatoes were clearly instant, which surprised me. I wasn't planning to say anything -- I'm really not that person. But then my friend tasted her lobster and said, "Something isn't right." Her steak was fine, and my boyfriend enjoyed his meal. When the waitress came by near the end of the meal, my friend quietly mentioned the lobster issue -- not asking for anything, just wanting them to be aware in case something was wrong with the product that night. We had an event to get to, so we weren't trying to linger. This is where it shifted. The waitress said she would get her mom. While waiting, the busgirl cleared our plates, even taking my friend's lobster, and handed her a to-go container for her steak. When the mom came over, the conversation took an unpleasant tone. She questioned why we didn't say something sooner and even asked, "What did you put in the food that was wrapped up?" It felt accusatory and dismissive. I also mentioned my lobster roll had the same issue, and she brushed it off with, "Oh, that's different," as if it didn't matter. My friend reiterated she didn't want anything taken off the bill -- she simply wanted them to know something seemed off with the lobster that night. But the energy was annoyed and uncomfortable. The original waitress never came back to the table. Eventually, the mom returned, said the chef was "too busy to come out," (we never asked for the chef by the way. It was just another person coming to tell us we were wrong? Idk ) and after about 15 uncomfortable just sitting there minutes handed us the check. She removed the lobster from my friend's bill and our soft drinks. We tipped well anyway, because the point wasn't the money -- it was the experience. My friend, by the way, is a kind, highly educated Black woman. I'm mentioning this because the entire interaction felt directed solely at her, even though I had the same complaint. The dynamic did not sit right with me. We left feeling embarrassed, unwelcome, and confused, especially given the positive reviews we had read. The night started out great. But we will not be going back, and we won't be recommending the restaurant to anyone. read more

Great spot to include in your local dining rotation if you live or summer in the area. We learned of this gem from one of my fiancé's favorite shows - Restaurant Impossible (shout out to his man crush Tom Bury) - and decided to take a drive up the Hudson Valley from our home in Northern New Jersey. Restaurant was quiet for a Saturday evening but that was just fine for those of us looking for a relaxing dinner spot. He, of course, had to check out all of Tom's works of art and the dishes featured on the show. The Shrimp Topped Salmon is a must have. The fried calamari was standard but prepared well. Stuffed clams were too bready (feedback that Robert Irvine also provided). I had the Zuppa di Pesce - while a tad salty for our taste (which says something for the fiance that adds salt to most things he eats) - came in a generous portion of both seafood and linguine and definitely worth a try. Went there for Father's Day. Had reservations. Food was fabulous! I would give the food 4 stars. Service was horrible. I would give the service 1 star. Obvious attitude among all the waiters. Was told they were short staffed, not my fault, don't take it out on the customer.No one ever came back to check how our meal was, could they get anything else. My wine glass sat empty at the edge of the table, was hoping someone would come by to see if I wanted another. When my salad plate was cleared I asked for a new fork and knife was told sure, never came. When my food came asked for a fork and knife, it never came. Thankfully my Granddaughter was eating her pasta with her hand, got to use her fork for dinner. Will consider take out next time. read more

Dutchess County has few places that specialize in seafood and even less now that Red Lobster has closed. My wife and I have been eating at Joe Willy's for longer than they've been at their present location. Normally we stick with either one of the choices offered on the fried platter (shrimp, cod, clams or scallops) if not picking one of specials of the day. Plus we both really enjoy their N.E. style clam chowder. The restaurant has a nice seating area plus a bar. One thing we both would like to see would be more variety in offered specials as the standard menu items hasn't changed much over the years. Food is very good as long as one doesn't push the kitchen beyond their limits of the tried and true. read more

Not sure of why I haven't been back yet, but Joe Willy's had some of the freshest seafood items. My lobster tails were a nice size and they were not rubbery or chewy. The atmosphere was exciting and the live band was a great bonus. There was not much diversity there but other than that the food was great. read more

Drinks and appy's were great! Service was great. Chowder was overly salted but lots of clams. My Dinner was awful. I was in the mood for fish and chips which surprisingly was not on the menu. I opted for the fried fish platter. It was FROZEN fish and FROZEN shrimp. Fries were cold and limp. It's a fish/seafood restaurant-should have been fresh in my opinion. My husband had flounder /shrimp franchese. The fish was ok but shrimp was overcooked and very tough. How very sad we were to have had this experience. Will NOT go back. Upon a neighbors recommendation we tried Joe Willy's Seafood House this past week. Upon arrival very quiet for a Wednesday evening for dinner but better for me since service should be good. Friendly waitress greeted and seated us at a booth so off to a good start. Very chill 70's rock player in background which was enjoyable. We ordered stuffed flounder with crab meat side baked potato and a broiled seafood special that had Cod, Salmon, Flounder, scallops and shrimp along with mashed potatoes. Also had to try Lobster Bisque since it's my favorite soup hands down. A salad accompanied dinner which was mixed greens and cherry tomato, fine not here for salad. Soup was fine small pieces of lobster inside the soup and both entree's were delicious. So why only 4 stars? Honestly I felt the prices are a bit high ( I know prices for everything are increasing). Also a 3% surcharge for using a credit card? Thought that was out of sorts I haven't seen that in years, but since we didn't have $100 in cash to pay we opted to pay the increase using the card. We started out with the raw sampler of shrimp, oysters and clams, the clams were gritty but otherwise the appetizer was good. We both had the cup of lobster bisque, it was served barely lukewarm and was a bright orange color. The salads were average. My hubby had the zuppa di peche with shrimp and clams, it was ok. My broiled lobster tail was dried out and tough, I didn't bother to try the shrimp, and surprisingly the cod was moist and flavorful. My hubby tried the cannoli, he didn't finish it because it was pasty. The woman's restroom reeked horribly, I could smell the stench three feet from the door, the floors were sticky. the service was TERRIBLE... ordered two entrees and when she brought them out one of the meals didn't have any sides on them. no one seemed too think it was important too let us know BEFORE we ordered that they ran out of the sides. So you just sat the plate down and didn't say anything. when I mentioned it too the manager she tried too take up for the waitress and say well she's still fairly new.. new or old it's your JOB too let a paying customer know when you run out of something, so they choose something else. if u can't do that your in the wrong profession !! it was a first and a last... This has become my go-to spot for great seafood in the area. The quality of the fish is fantastic and the service has been much better the last few times we've come. Admittedly my husband and I had mixed feelings our first couple visits as most of the waitresses are pretty young and the service wasn't great, however we kept coming back for the food and so glad we did. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the lobster roll/mac special as I felt there wasn't much lobster for the price, and I also had a daiquiri that simply wasn't a daiquiri - it was super milky, runny, and frankly not good. My husband also had clam strips recently that tasted sandy, however those are our only complaints. All of the other seafood has been exceptional and the owners and waitstaff are very welcoming. The shrimp topped salmon is DELICIOUS and all of the broiled choose your own fish specials are great as well, they give you so many options to choose from in terms of flavor profile that you can't go wrong. The crab stuffed fish dinner is very yummy as well. Their clams oreganata are my personal favorite, the best I've had! Recently had my fish selection prepared that way and it was delicious. The vibe of the restaurant is nice but not pretentious. The food truly speaks for itself and we're so glad to have this seafood gem in the area. read more

Stephanie was phenomenal! She was patient , answered all the questions and was attentive. There was so much food and the price was great for all we got. Everything was delicious! The fried cheese was stringy, stuffed cod/shrimp and stuffed whole lobster were mouthwatering. This restaurant offers a wide range of different seafood dishes, as well as dishes for people that aren't fans of seafood. They are a little expensive, but it's worth it for what you get. I had never been here before my family and I took my mother-in-law to dinner for her 91st birthday. My family had been here before but in their other location. What struck me was that they were pretty dead on a Sunday at 2PM. I have to think this lack of business is contributing to the high prices. The food was good for the most part and the service was excellent. We started things off with appetizers of buffalo calamari which was excellent and a mixed fried platter which was also good. That came with a tomato sauce for dipping that was nasty and a portent of things to come. For dinner my son opted for the market price ($50.00) King Crab Legs and I got the broiled scallops. Both were good and came with huge portions of rice pilaf. Unfortunately the rice was from a bag or box. I don't understand the reason for it not being made from scratch. It seemed like it was there just for ballast. My daughter got chicken with some type of white wine sauce over linguini, which she enjoyed. My mother-in-law got a combination of BBQ ribs, shrimp and scallops which she reported as flavorless. I can't give that much credence because I know what happens to our taste buds as they age and I think at 91 a ghost pepper might elicit a yawn from her. My wife's dinner - chicken parm - was truly inedible. The sauce had to have been made by someone who had never eaten tomato sauce before. It was like ketchup with oregano in it. Very close to the stuff Burger King used to put on their chicken parm sandwiches. The service was great. We had gotten pastries from a local bakery which we kept in a cooler in the car as we planned on going home after dinner to continue the birthday celebration. Since it was quiet in the restaurant my daughter asked if could order coffee and eat them there. They were more than obliging - going so far as to make fresh coffee, arranging the pastries on a plate and having the staff bring them to the table while singing Happy Birthday. Despite my wife's meal and the prices they get 4 stars. You could do a lot worse in the seafood department. Red Lobster isn't a real choice for anyone and having recently been to Bonefish Grill, I found their offerings to be complicated and just a few steps above Red Lobster. It's not easy being a restauranteur in 2018 but Joe Willy's is hanging in there. I would recommend you give them a try. Just avoid anything with tomato sauce. I have to think that the more business they have, the better they can control the line on prices. Maybe in the meantime someone can give them rice pilaf and tomato sauce recipes. read more

Salads were drowning in dressing My broiled swordfish was good but the side of rice tasted like a packet from the supermarket. My husband had surf n turf. Steak was tough. Scallops were good. We shared a lemon mascarpone cake that was light and fluffy... it was the best part of the meal. This establishment was featured on the TV show Restaurant impossible a few years back when they were located in Fishkill. Perhaps they reverted back to their old ways? Just ordered take-out from Joe Willy's for my partner's birthday. Her food was fine and they weren't unpleasant about her asking for additional sauces. My food, on the other hand was disappointing. The salad "greens" didn't fill half the container and it looked like some of them had been picked out of the discard pile, i.e. they were rotten. Gross. I threw the salad away. Also, my dish was supposed to have a "corn relish", which I have previously enjoyed, on the mashed potatoes. It was absent - just got the mashed with nothing on them. Boring. I had also ordered a side of onion rings. These must have come out of a package....totally industrial. I had tipped the kitchen. That was a mistake. Certainly not worth the money. read more

I've have been coming to Joe Willy's for years. Their seafood is fresh and well made. The pasta dishes are great especially the scallops in lobster sauce. I've had the fried seafood and broiled seafood platters and both were very good. The service has always been great whether you are at the bar or in the dining room. Every time I've gone here I have been satisfied. I go here several times a year. I've introduced maaaany friends to this establishment and they all loved it as well. Appetizers are delicious, the meal is always delicious, desserts are always delicious. However, I did go about a month or two ago and it was not as good as it usually is... I really hope they did not change chefs. Even one of my favorite desserts was different... hmm I'm still giving it five stars because every time I've gone it's been great with the exception of that one time. This place was a surprise. I just happened to be in Wappingers Falls due to issues with my car and was so hungry. My husband wanted seafood and so we came upon Joe Willy's. I ordered the Zuppa De Pesce with linguini, shrimp and calamari in fra diavlos sauce. Absolutely delicious. Well seasoned sauce with the right amount of heat (spice). The portion size was large, as well so I had enough left for dinner the next day. My husband got the chef special that day which was broiled salmon, flounder, and shrimp in a lemon butter sauce. Fairly new to the area and restricted due to Coronavirus pandemic. I came across Joe Willy's Mother's Day special and we were very pleased. First they were nice enough to deliver. The beef with the surf and turf was perfectly cooked. I admit I was nervous because it's beef and travel time was involved! Food came hot and delicious. We have been going to Joe Willies since they were in fishkill, NY. Last time was awful. The place is so loud, noise bouncing off the wall. They seated us near a large table. Asked the waitress to move us. She did but only a few feet and was not happy. They now charge a fee if you use your credit card. Guess they only want cash to go south with the money.
