Went in for some BBQ I had heard this place has been around for awhile, so in I went! First off, the atmosphere is awesome, very homey feeling with lots of room to move around in. It's 2 stories so there is plenty of seating available. When you walk in you immediately walk up and order your food, the staff prepares it and has it ready for you before you are done paying! They have warm bread and sauces avail, onions and pickles etc. Just a great set up! We chose to take the stairs to the top, we were the only ones up there but we got there in time for the baseball game being played on a nice flatscreen Tv in the center of the room. Went to a catered event in the Joe's building next to Joe's BBQ in Alvin. The BBQ beef had zero flavor and the BBQ sauce was bland at best. The chicken was flavorless also. The tea tasted like it had coffee in it. I assume they made it in the coffee container and did not rinse beforehand, just awful! The potato salad was ok, not great. The cobler was dry and the servings were very small. The price for the buffet was extravagant and definitely not worth the price. Will never go back. If you are looking for a good hearty and meaty meal, this is a great barbeque spot! First of all, there is plenty of parking space and at least 3 entries/exits, which is great for easy access. When you walk in, it's like a cafeteria style, grab-a-tray-and-go kinda thing. You have two options, you can opt for a buffet, which includes the salad bar and seafood options; or you can choose a plate of your liking. They will serve your food as soon as you reach the end of the line, you end up to a condiments area and a bread area (bread in nice and hot) and you can load up on bbq sauce. It was pretty busy when we got there as it was on a Sunday during the lunch crowd. A table had just left and a flat made sure to clean off the table promptly. And for the inconvenience, the lady brought us free to go drinks and was very attentive. The place is also super cute and very Texas. We happened to stumble across this restaurant while in the area. This bbq restaurant has very family style portions. The bbq is very good & decently priced for what you are getting. Today i tried the ribs, brisket, & along with a few sides. The ribs fell right off the bone and were well seasoned. Their seasonal broccoli, rice & cheese casserole is to die for. All of the cooking is very home-y. Their fresh bread was the icing on top of all the well seasoned food. This restaurant serves very home-style cooking you would expect to find in a small town. We've only lived in Alvin for a couple of months but have been to Joe's probably 4 or 5 times already! Clearly we love it! The first time we went, I ordered a chopped beef sandwich. And he ordered the Hamburger Steak special. It came with soup, salad, entree, 2 sides and cobbler with ice cream! The cobbler is self-serve and you can choose from peach, apple and blackberry. Plus, there are several Bluebell ice cream flavors to choose from! We've tried several dishes from there. We love the brisket and their burgers! I love the searing on the burger and hamburger steak. There's only one dish so far that I didn't really love. It was the BBQ Nachos. Although it was a huge serving, it was just cheese and chopped beef. Nothing else. You have to ask for chives and sour cream which I didn't know. One of the workers mentioned that. And the cheese tasted like concession-stand cheese. Not my fave. The staff is always really nice too. I am a 100% disabled combat veteran, I have a registered service dog. Last week momma & I went to eat at Joe's Barbecue on hwy 6 in Alvin Texas, like many times before. This time I was informed that I would not be able to bring my service dog back inside there restaurant by the manager. Even though the owner is a veteran himself. I filed a grievance with the ADA, I was informed that they didn't have the personnel or the time to deal with this matter. They make the excuse that they have no control over the menu prices on YELP and GOOGLE and once you arrive and walk in the plates are $6 higher per plate at the counter and they said to look at the website for their own menu and guess what.... It has no prices!!!!!! According to them, it's because they change it daily due to market value pricing. This restaurant ends up trapping people because nobody wants to look cheap and walk out with their entire family once they're in, so people eventually just stay and eat their horrible food. The Beans are canned ranch beans and the potato salad came out of a bucket. The meat was tough dry and poorly seasoned. The burger was soggy and didn't come with fries. Their money back guarantee is bullshit because when we called to talk about it, Joanna and Joe cussed us out, so we didn't get any customer service but at least we got a couple FU's in for our troubles. I remember when we first moved to the area more than 20 years ago, this was the BBQ place to go! After all, we were told that this was one of Nolan Ryan's favorite restaurants. With that sort of "endorsement", how could you go wrong. Although the restaurant is not particularly close to our house, we have been back multiple times through the years, sometime detouring on our way home from a trip downtown for a quick meal here. I still like the environment (some people like to say ambience), the brisket and the homemade chips. I was most recently back with a friend who retired to the area. My last trip to my hometown BBQ place. Placed an order to go based on published Joe's BBQ Restaurant Alvin, TX from Yelp's website. WRONG. I told the cashier where I had seen rates & based my purchase on those rates. Like talking to the wall. You have to call, you have to call is all she would say. Brisket by the pound as listed on Yelp's website is $14.95 per lb.; actual price $25.90 per lb. Quart of potato salad listed on Yelp $5.95; actual $12.95 Almost every price published is wrong. The only way to know the true cost per item is to call the restaurant...even their menu they hand out has no prices listed and no mention that published menu rates are wrong. I suppose so Joe's BBQ can charge whatever they want. To me it is deceptive practice. If the only way to find the true cost of an item, they need to say that in bold upper case type on their website and menu plus say any other rates published are false. For an $86.33 meal total, most of the dinner will go in my trash. Dry, dry, dry sliced beef, ham and even their chopped beef. There are too many other BBQ restaurants serving better meats at same or lower cost. Joe's, no thank you. You've left a really bad taste in my mouth and given me indigestion. read more

Yep, gone are the days of the old Joe's BBQ and so are the standards, were talking low standards here, from unsanitary work areas to Roaches creeping up the walls to feast on yesterdays food,which YOU by the way, eat.thats right, they pretty much serve you yesterdays meats by simply just heating it up in a warmer surrounded by even more feces.The "back" which is outside where they cook/prep, reeks of raw sewage which comes up from the outside pipe and floods a large portion of prep area with human excrement.if you take a walk in the back behind the area where food is served, you'll notice grease caked on the walls,ceiling and plugs surrounding the toothless cook who refuses to clean it. Food is dropped on the floor but still served to customers. raw chicken thawing right next to raw fish, Employees not washing hands regularly,etc. , basically every rule has been broken here.dont believe me? ask for a Tour and take a look for yourself.dont say i didnt warn you.just goes to show that you never know what is going on behind closed doors. and the dead cat? i was told this wasnt the first time. as a matter of fact, drive around to the back of the establishment and you'll see why there would be a dead cat in the cooler. the back area is home to atleast 13 cats, last i counted. July 2, 2023 Order beef ribs to go today. When I arrived home I notice the ribs had a dark dingy brown color. The meat was not firm but very slimy and geasy. I called and spoke to the manager and explained in detail the color and texture of the meat. He stated to me there was way the meat was not fresh because he checks it every two hours. We had to go during Covid and inhaled in the car! Could not make it home! Just returned to dine in and loved the vibe. BBQ specialties but the CFS and CFC are best around. They have platters but we get sandwich versions. Enough for 2 meals, but that crunch cannot be replicated in leftovers so go hungry! Fries are a great side. Mac and cheese was underwhelming (even with hot sauce and lots of added salt and pepper). We will stick with fries next time. They had bread choices but with Covid you cannot get a sandwich on the sourdough jalapeño BUT we could buy a loaf at checkout register. They have a mini-store with candies and spices. And my only negative is they post the owner is a disabled vet, BUT walker would not fit in restroom stall - all they did was add a pull up handle. NOT handicapped-friendly! Got the 3 meat plate and on recommendation from the fellow taking my order, got the pork ribs,jalapeño sausage and brisket. It comes with 2 sides which I chose corn pudding which was good and the Mac and cheese which was bland. Getting back to the meats, the ribs were meaty but lacked flavor. Some times, the meat is cooked better than other times, but it's never been worse than good. Standard sides are pretty good, but the sweet potato fries are very good.
