Did a day trip to Salem while visiting the Northeast and of course lobster was on our list for lunch. Searched Yelp for lobster rolls and it pulled up Joe's On a Roll as #12... IMO it should be Top 5!! Rolled up around 12:30 on a Thursday. Very limited parking (maybe 5 spots) but you can park around the corner or it looked like across the street as well. It looked like an abandoned building. There is no seating except a bench out front which is the only downfall. It would be nice if they could relocate the stuff on the side of building and put in a picnic table area. To the left there is a rock wall that was perfect to sit my food on while I stood and ate (it worked). Most people pulled up and left after getting their food. You order at the window and they'll either bring the food out to you or call your name to pick up from the window. I ordered the lobster roll (hot with butter), soup (lobster bisque), chips, and a drink for $20!! The lobster roll is a hotdog sized bun loaded with lobster meat. What a deal AND it was DELICIOUS!! We met the owner who was super sweet and friendly. She told us her son is the lobster fisherman so really it's a family business. If I'm ever back in town this place is on the top of my list, in fact, I already recommended it to my friend going this weekend! read more

Amazing! Lobster is fresh and you get a great quantity of it in your meal. I got a combo and a lobster bisque. Both did not disappoint. The combo comes with a roll , chowder, chips and a drink for 21$ ! The lobster bisque had huge chunks of lobster in it too. The prices are so fair as far as lobster goes. Wish I have this near me. So hard to find a lobster that isn't drowning in mayo and this one did not disappoint me. They will butter and grill a real New England hot dog roll and fill it with lots of not too salty lobster meat. Brought home the lobster bisque and would rate it highly. A little find while on my drive in New England today for lunch. For $20 I got a yummy lobster roll, cup of clam chowder with crackers, salt and vinegar chips and a drink. The brioche was lightly toasted and had a generous lobster to bread ratio, just how I like it. There were plenty of clams in the chowder, which was tasty but the consistency was a little thinner than my preference. Has some outdoor tables, good for early autumn but it would be takeaway for sure in winter. A worthwhile first stop on a weekend of New England seafood degustation. read more

Driving down by the oceanside scenic route to Salem, a friend and I passed by this little truck stand with lobster rolls. Visiting from Miami, I asked if he would want to stop since I don't care for lobster and I'm glad I turned around. This food trailer has incredible, fresh, meaty lobster caught by the family sons and then sold thurs-sun 12pm-6pm. My friend was offered a clam chowder sample and when I said I didn't really like seafood, I was immediately offered tasty corn chowder. My friend got the lobster roll and I tried a piece, and I regret not getting one. I don't like typical chain lobster but this was really good. It's family owned and operated, and I respect that this family continues the legacy of Joe, "living the dream." Love supporting local businesses with delicious food. We were very excited to find this cute place on our town. We went today for the first time and ordered a lobster roll and tater tots. The tater tots were amazing and hot but as a lobster roll specialist and expert because it is our favorite food all year round this one was hugely disappointing. The color of the meat looked old or canned and tasted and smelled fishy. I took one bite as did my wife and had to spit it out and throw away the whole lobster roll. People were friendly and had great potential but not a place we will be returning to if we want to eat lobster rolls unfortunately. read more

It's a walk up/take out place right on a cut through road next to the railroad tracks, with parking right out front (which means while you're waiting you're either taking up a parking space or dodging customers coming and going. But let's get down to brass tacks. The Lobster Rolls are incredible!!!! Tasty, full of real big chunks of lobster meat on a perfectly prepared roll. I also got a 'Hat Trick Box" of fried clams, shrimp, snd scallops. I'd like to say it was delicious (and it was pretty tasty) but as anyone who had done take out fried food in a container, by the time you got anywhere to eat food prepared this way, it's pretty....limp and greasy....but I can say that the fish was fresh, so maybe I'd try it again. I may even go out on a limb and say it was the best lobster roll I've ever had in my life. We called in our order. We were going to order 2 clam roll combos but were told we would be better off with an order of clams and a order of fries so that's what we did. We got home to split the order and there was not much food for 2, not sure how small the clam rolls are if they have fewer clams than this.
