Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but I didnt find joe's good. I think the steamed rolls only tasted okay after adding the peanut sesame sauce, but it shouldnt be like that. If the steam rolls are delicious it should taste fresh and silky by itself, and joe's was not able to deliver that. I also ordered the soy milk and it was unfortunately quite bland with some graininess to it. Staff were nice and it came out fairly quickly. Plenty of seating inside the food court.
$5 for that plate, it was originally full I just took the pic halfway. Silky smooth and super soft layers, very appetizing, I needed to add soy sauce since I wanted more flavor. Choice of 3 vegetables, I chose scallions, corn, and lettuce, all 3 are pretty much nonexistent as you can see in the pic. Minced pork was in the steamed rice roll itself, some slices didn't have any pork. In summary very little minced pork, it doesn't contribute to taste. There's also a choice of if I wanted eggs, as in pic the egg was so thin and it fused with the rice roll skin itself, didn't taste like egg at all. In summary this dish is just if you want smooth rice roll skin itself. Toppings are nonexistent. But for $5 it's not bad.
Smooth, silky steamed rice noodle rolls at this food hall location. Bunch of different filling combinations available from the classic shrimp and beef to "loaded" with shrimp, beef, roast pork. We tried the loaded and it was prepared fresh. We suggest to-go if you want to avoid the noise and crowds. Add a little soy sauce and enjoy. $10
I am not sure what my fiancé ordered but we were trying to have a quick breakfast after an appointment and everything from here is always so good. The rice roll is always so thin allowing for all the flavors from the toppings to come through. The other one was like a fried scallion pancake wrapped around meat which was also super delicious and lightly crispy. The service is always nice and quick which we enjoyed as well because we were both super hungry.
Why 5 stars? Because I have a confession: I love rice rolls. --- --- --- I didn't even know what a rice roll was, and I'm still not sure I do now, but what I do know is that I want them in my life as often as possible in the future. Via Jando's guidance, we visited New World Mall and went staight to Joe's Steam Rice Roll. I ordered one with Beef, Scallions, Corn and Lettuce and then sat at the table next to the stall waiting for it. As I waited, I realized I missed that one of the items is called "Joe's Signature", which I would have ordered had I seen it. I missed that because their monitors have some kind of Roku advertisement flashing on the screen intermittently, which hides parts of the menu at various times. This screen glitch is my one and only complaint about my experience. Fast forward to my number being called and, praise sweet baby Jesus, I was in heaven. This was "dance in my seats in between bites" good. I think it was a combination of the fact that I hadn't ever had anything quite like it, AND that it was so delicious at the same time. I ended up finishing this, and visiting another stall. What I ordered at the other stall was perfectly fine, but I kept thinking about my first true love the whole time. Eventually, I told my friend, "I gotta get another rice roll before I leave this place." Much to his dismay, I did. Round two was the aforementioned signature roll. And guess what? While also awesome, I think my custom concoction was even better. I'm a steam roll guy now and that's that.
Joe's rice rolls are delicious! It is located inside the New World Food Court in the mall. The rice rolls are made to order and you can add toppings inside as well. Each rice roll is around $6-8 depending on what you want. There are options for curry fish balls as well. Out of all the rice roll places I've tried, this place is my favorite! We got the fresh shrimp rice roll with corn and cilantro. It was fresh, soft, and tasty. Would definitely come back again!
I've only tried rice rolls from 2 other NYC locations but must say this one is a MUST visit. The rice rolls had the perfect texture, not too chewy, not too soft. The filling was fresh and complimented the rice roll. I had beef, bean sprouts, corn, and scallions in mine, and you have to drizzle their house-made sauces and chili oil on it. I got my food pretty quickly and the staff was very nice. Chill ambience with a few seats for you to sit and enjoy your food. I'm gonna be thinking about this meals for days.
Flushing location. This place is overrated. The space is so small. They have the first shop location in this small food court/hall, so they attract all the customers. The vendors in the back are so bored that they're on their phones. There is limited counter seating, and when people walk past you, it's easy to get bumped. It's not a comfortable eating situation for a big group for sure. I got the soy milk, and it was good. They have condiments, like soy sauce and chili sauce. No bathroom.
I've tried Joe's in the city and was happy to see that they had a location in Flushing. Joe's steamed rice roll is known for their authentic cheung fun. The rolls are made to order and steamed in front of you. During this visit I got the shrimp and egg roll. The roll was floppy and delicate, just the way I like it. The wait was short, but well worth it.
Maybe I had my expectations too high, but I thought that this place was alright. Now, a stall in the New World mall, this rice roll stand offers a variety of your favorite breakfast dish--rice rolls! They're made-to-order and you can also add a bunch of different toppings to your rice roll (on top of the three free veggie choices that you get upon ordering). I got their specialty rice roll, which includes dried shrimp, beef, and a couple other toppings. I thought that it was okay. Although it was filling and had generous portions of the meat, I thought that the rice sheets were a bit thicker than I would typically like. Nonetheless, it was still a good rice roll spot, but just a bit overhyped.
You can't go wrong with these classic steamed rice rolls - I actually prefer Joe's over the ones they serve at dim sum because the rice rolls are thinner and easier to enjoy. They also add extra stuff like egg, bean sprouts, cilantro, etc. and don't forget the chili oil and sauce! It is super affordable for a quick bite to eat and they have a new location in new world mall now since the mall they were originally in across the street is now closed. I've ordered similar dishes at dim sum places before, but they never really left it an impression. Not true for the ones here though! Made to order and served hot, these were super flavorful especially after we loaded it up with chili oil! I'd recommend sharing because they are very filling. As a bonus, my friend and I were lucky to snag a counter spot so we could watch them being made while we ate!
Cheap, delicious food, the best rice rolls we have had! We look forward to Joe's every time we are in NYC! Great breakfast food or just a quick, cheap snack! Our go to every time is the rice roll. There are different combination you can choose from as far as the proteins/fillings go. A large one with egg and 3 veggies comes out to less than $10. You really can't get that anywhere else. The place is tiny small with only 4-6 stools chair. They get busy quick especially on the weekends. Be prepared to wait 10-15mins for your order, but it's worth it. They do take credit card, but prefer cash if it's less than $10. read more
First time trying their steamed rice rolls. I am in love with rice rolls when going to get dim sum, so obviously I had to go try this place. I have to say, fell instantly in love with the rolls. They were fresh and hot, plus they were made by order. That being said, when ordered, it would take about 10-30 minutes before the order would come out. Usually depends on if they are busy the wait time would vary. I would like to mention that the location of the "stand" is inside a small building that is shared with multiple other "stands". It does get crowed inside, and dining in is nearly impossible - personally suggest to get to-go. read more
Joe's Steam Rice Rolls is nestled in the front stall on the left of the Landmark Quest Mall. Everytime I have visited they were always very busy. Of course every goes for their famous rice rolls. There are a good variety of classics and even specialty ones. There is also option to add egg and three types of veggies. I like the rice rolls without the egg. The veggies are a nice addition with the choice of protein. The veggies added is no extra charge. I liked that the rice rolls texture of the rolls were nice and thin. It was delicate, tasty and flavorful. If you dine in there is two rows just in front of the booth where customers can eat. They serve it on the plate and they have all the fixings to flavor the rice rolls on the tables. If you take out, they provide a small cup of soy sauce to add to the rice rolls when you are ready to eat them. Although a tight spot, Joe's is a nice solid staple to grab good rice rolls. read more

Food: 5/5 Service/Ambiance: 4/5 Food- Who knew that perfectly thin wrapper surrounding fresh shrimp and scallions covered in a light soy sauce could be so good? The shrimp rice roll exceeded on all fronts flavor and texture wise and was still eaten quickly and thoroughly enjoyed after having a large lunch at a different restaurant. Service/Ambiance: Situated in a dense market area, the service and ambiance were pretty average. The area we ate at was a little messy, but nothing that could mess up the meal. Yes. Go eat here. If you're not hungry, you'll still eat it anyway. read more

The hype is so real for this spot. The rice rolls are SO SILKY SMOOTH. Rice rolls are one of my favorite foods ever so I have standards. These are so fresh and soft but NOT mushy (this is a more common problem than you would think). This was a $6 plate (usually $5 but I added an egg for an extra $1) and I was pleasantly surprised because of all the rising prices nowadays (sigh). $5 for the small "base" (rice rolls with your choice of protein) and then up to 3 toppings (corn/cilantro/bean sprouts/scallion) and a few additional for an extra buck. Totally worth it. I also like how they have the soy sauce and chili oil out so you can adjust/add to your liking. Pro tip: ask for peanut sauce! They have it prepackaged in little containers behind the counter. read more

My friends who have had rice rolls before said these were a good quality example of rice rolls. Personally I was not a fan of the texture of the rice rolls because I found them slimy, but I really liked the Chinese egg crepe. You could add meat to it, but I elected to stick with the basic vegetarian version and was happy with the flavors. They do accept credit cards for a 3% fee. read more
Such quick and good service! You know what you're expecting. Yummy steamed rice rolls that are made fresh to order. There is counter seating available, although it's a bit tight since it's lining the walkway of this small area of different food stalls. It seems all of them are optimized to function as take out places rather than dining areas. I brought my steamed rice rolls home which was more than a 30 minute commute and they stayed hot up to the point when I got home! Wow! My friend ordered the Joe's signature and ordered the Shrimp Party. Although I love shrimp, I preferred the Joe's Signature slightly better because of the beef flavor (and pieces of pork) adds great flavor to the rice roll. read more
The small is a bigger serving size than some dimsum places and for $5! Super worth. I could've done without the egg. I didn't get any chili oil togo but it probably would've been a lot better with chili oil. Waited about 5 minutes for these rolls with no line. Curry fish balls were sold out by 6pm! read more

best steam roll shop EVER! cash only, super fast service, and they're extremely generous with their fillings. i always make a point to visit when i'm in the area. it is inside new world mall now so i love the food court vibe - very nostalgic to the older days when we used to go to malls more frequently. read more

Overall: heard a ton about this place and it doesn't disappoint. First time having rice rolls filled with anything other than meat and that's quite the experience. Food: had the shrimp, bbq pork, and beef rolls and the rolls themselves were incredibly authentic. One man manning the steamer pumping out that tacky sticky rice rolls that I've heard are authentic. Not overly drenched in any one type of sauce. Also ordered their crepe pancake wrap which really reminded me of Taiwan vibes. Crispy pancake with a very flavorful egg and loaded with veggies. Extremely reasonably priced as well. Service: Did a grab and go order but they were extremely quick given the insane crowd! read more

I came on a Saturday morning and placed an order for the shrimp steamed rice roll for $8 at 10:59am and the lady said it would take about 10-15 minutes. I finally got the food at 11:30am. The food tasted good but not worth the 30-minute wait. They only have one guy in the back making the food, which is why the wait is so long. read more
Joe's has the best beef and shrimp rice rolls ever! Nothing beats their freshly made rolls....the silken wrap was nice and thin and the fillings (beef and shrimp) were full of flavor. We ordered 2 large orders to go ($7 each) and got home about 20 minutes later. Usually when rice rolls cool down, the wrap gets a bit hard/chewy, but Joe's remained silky and soft. Really super lovely! I found this place based on another Yelper's review and finally remembered to stop by today for a try! Definitely worth it IMO. They are the first vendor inside a tightly packed food mall of sorts right on Roosevelt Ave., kind of across the street from Macy's. There are several stools available for customers who want to chow down ASAP. With your order, you get to pick 3 vegetables to go in your rice roll such as bean sprouts, lettuce, scallions cilantro, or corn. I opted for scallions, cilantro and corn. So I grew up in California and we spent a lot of time visiting Chinatown in San Francisco. This area is reminiscent of that location, and I had a great time eating the food. I've never had a steam rice roll before, but I've seen people eat them and I've always been curious about the taste. Once I entered the restaurant the guy taking the orders went over what a Rice roll was and some of the toppings and how the food was prepared. I appreciated the service that he provided because I didn't know the language and I was super concerned about what I was getting myself into. The restaurant is honestly a hole in the wall, you sit at these tables that are along the cooking area and there's a couple of tables in the back. The ambience kind of lends it's ear to eating in the middle of Tokyo, like in an alleyway. I had no issue with the vibe at all. The food was amazing. There were toppings at the table, and everyone was really good about cleaning up after themselves. The great thing is they take your trash from you when you're done to recycle, I thought that was awesome! read more

Love the curry fish ball and how they give you a good amount. Rice roll texture is soft without being overly chewy or stale. This place does get busy but service works efficiently. I had the steamed roll with shrimp last year in their old location (they are now in the New world mall food court). Last year was only shrimp, this year I added an egg. It was better just with shrimp lol. It was good regardless, my only complaint is that the corner where they are located now stinks! Maybe because they are closer to the bathrooms? I just moved to another part of the food court and it was fine. read more
I've been wanting to try this Joe's Rice Roll place for a while now. It's supposed to be one of the better cheap eats spots in Flushing. I went on a weekend morning recently and finally got to try it. The place has a very small entrance on Roosevelt Ave so it's pretty easy to miss. It's housed in a mini food court that has a bunch of other places. There are a few seats, but seating overall is extremely limited. It got crowded for the lunch rush, which is to be expected. I ordered the large Curry Fish Ball Rice Roll ($7). Total was $7 flat, which isn't bad. I have to note that it took a long time for me to get my order. It seemed like there was only one guy making the rice rolls so each order was taking forever. It might've taken about 25-30 minutes, but I finally got my order and took it across the street to the New World Mall food court to eat. I thought the flavor and texture on this food item was pretty good. The rice rolls tasted fresh and had a nice, pleasantly slitherly texture. The curry fish balls were tasty as well. However, for a 'large' order, there wasn't that much food in the container. I wish they filled it up a bit more. So I enjoyed the rice roll and definitely want to try a different one next time, but was a bit disappointed in the quantity given. I will give this 3 stars overall for the time being. I had this few years ago, and finally got to tried this again. Came on Friday around 7pm, place is somewhat empty, only 2 others customer dining in. I got Joe's signature , you can choose 3 vegetables . I got corn, bean sprouts and scallion. You pay cash and they give you a receipt. Keep the receipt! Food came in like 5-10 min they call you, and you need that give the receipt back to the cashier. Food is okay, nothing special. If you need any sauce, you have to ask them , they will give you in these small plastic containers... I don't remember it was like this before. People who work is .. kind of rude. One guy is complaining about a customer who didn't keep their receipt. I understand if it's busy time, but the place is quite empty at the time. One way a yelling cause they handed plates from other stall. Place has no trash can, you have to hand them the plate after you done. Those two customers just ate together order from them and stall across. You could just tell the customer to give the plate to other stall without making everyone uncomfortable. read more

Went here on on July 12th. Service was so slow. We came pretty early around 11. Not even that many people waiting around, I would say 8. Took almost 45 mins to get food from waiting in line/ordering. After nearly 30 mins, I went up there and wanted a refund but the lady was like no refund. Then food magically came was gonna be right up. The rice rolls were good but I'm never waiting waiting 45 mins again here. I'll find another place next time I visit flushings. read more

We tried this place because one of the Yelp reviews says that it's the best steam rolls that they have ever had. It lived up to that statement! The rolls had a really good texture and were delicious. You can pick different veggies or meat ingredients. Tasted freshly made. The price is inexpensive versus anything that you purchase in Manhattan. HAPPY STEAM ROLLING! read more
I was staying nearby for business and found Joe's Steam Rice Roll, read the reviews and had to come try it. I didn't really know what it would be like but I enjoy trying new foods. The restaurant itself is essentially a stall among about 5 or 6 others (all looked interesting btw). A little hard to find but glad I did. I got a roll and added all the veggies. It was cooked right in front of me which was a cool process. It took maybe 5 minutes before I got my roll. I added some chili oil to it and enjoyed it. Great textures and flavors made the roll really good. It's cut into about 6 pieces (might have been a few more) and it would be easy to share. The interior was clean with a seating bar of about a half dozen chairs for dining in. There also is chili oils and various sauces for topping your rolls. I really enjoyed the food and the experience. I'll definitely be back if in the area again. read more

The rice rolls here are SO good. Came by on a Friday morning and it was consistently busy throughout. A couple stools for seating, very casual. The rice rolls were very soft and fillings tasty. You can add up to 3 veggies with your rolls and there is a list at the counter. Soymilk was also great. Solid Chinese breakfast. read more

Their steam rice rolls have such a nice light, milky texture and they don't skimp on the ingredients. I do prefer the location in Chinatown because of the sauce options. You have to ask for the peanut sauce here, and they also only have soy sauce and chili oil. So there's just a lot less flavor. The jian bing here is super nice! Only $5 and an additional $1 if you want to add some sort of meat in it. It's super flavorful and has a nice spicy mayo-esque sauce in it that made it extra special. It's super chaotic here, so it took a while to order and it felt super rushed. There is little seating, and it's kind of like sitting at a bar. Not a fan. But overall, pretty solid food. read more

Overall, it was a good experience. The wait wasn't too long, but seating is quite limited. They also provide soy sauce and chili oil on the table. If you pay in cash, it's a bit cheaper. I dropped a star because of the vibes. The food court is generally pretty hot, and you'll likely carry the food smell with you for the rest of the day. read more
Got the Joe's signature and it was so good. I would come back just for that. This Joe's location is small with a few counter seatings. The wait was quite a bit and can be hard to find a seat but luckily another couple left as we were at the front of the line. I think this is probably one of the best rice rolls I've had. Also got the Chinese pancake with pork floss and lettuce. That was pretty good as well. I've gone to the other Joe's location in Manhattan and have tried their fish balls but didn't get them at this location because I wanted to try something new along with my rice rolls. The fish balls were pretty good too. For the rice rolls I think I prefer this location over the Manhattan one, and it works out because this one is closer to me too. Till next time Joe's! read more

Heard about this place on Instagram so I've been wanting to check it out and it did not disappoint. Got the Beef Rice Roll and was able to choose 3 vegetables to put in it. Some counter seating but I took it home and was still hot and delicious when I got home. Definately will be coming back! read more

Amazing and fresh steamed rice rolls! We ordered the vegetarian and shrimp rice roll. We got to pick 3 veggie toppings in the rice roll which was a nice surprise and good addition to our rice roll. Me and the bf devoured both orders and it was one of our favorite finds in flushing! We loved every bite. I also recommend getting the soy milk! read more

The rice rolls are, because they're made of rice flour. The sauce may not be if it's soy based.
How long do rice roll orders take? I wanted to try this place today and they told me it would be a 40 min wait for the Joe's Signature!
It depends on what day and what time of day you go but you can always order ahead in the phone. A lot of people do that so that's why orders take so long.
Are there gluten free options?
Do they do delivery?
I don't think they do but maybe a Chinese delivery service. Better to just pick up!
Is there any parking near the Flushing location? (Preferably not in a garage, and anywhere in relative walking distance.) Thanks!

Soy sauce. They give it to you on the side.
