I would love to give this restaurant five stars, but we have been here three times and the table service has not been the best. For our last venture here, we told our server we needed a little more time to review the menu and decide if we would want to try something different. She did not return for a little over ten minutes. In the mean time, I was getting a little bothered and saw she was servicing her other two tables near us many times, having conversations with another server, and just not coming back to see if we were ready to order. I decided to pass the workstation and ask her to take out order, but then hearing their conversation about social life and not work, that upset me. As I was ready to collect my family and walk out l, she returned to take our order. My wife gave her grace and we sat back down. The food here is delicious! I recommend the ravioli or the udon carbonara. Both are elegant dishes and have the best mixture of truffle flavor. These are our favorites. The restaurant is very nice, mall front design. The host and hostess are phenomenal! When you enter, not only are they very inviting and making you feel at home, they also offer everyone in the family champagne and for the young ones, sparkling juice. Who I assume is the manager, she is all over the place and in my mind, she works harder than she should. First of all the women working the front profiled me and were attentive to every old Caucasian male they could find before coming to me. I had to ask for help several times and they kept assuming I was a DoorDash driver because I'm a young black male. I then wait in the lobby for my bowl for 20 minutes while I already ordered it 20 minutes prior to arriving. The bowl comes out and come to find out it's been sitting and done for 10-15 minutes. Anniversary Dinner at JOEY My husband and I came to JOEY to celebrate our anniversary, mainly because they stay open late -- and it turned out to be the perfect choice. We were greeted at the entrance with a complimentary glass of champagne, which made the night feel extra special from the very start. Even though the restaurant was quite busy and we didn't have a reservation, we were seated right away in a cozy booth that was just right for us. I ordered the Tuna Poke Bowl and my husband had the Blackened Chicken. Both dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. Our server was energetic, friendly, and genuinely warm. This is solely a review on service. The food was good. Not amazing, but good. The girls working seemed very attentive to the few tables of men only (we were 2 women/1 man). Our food all came out incorrect and at odd times and we got our drinks basically when the food came out. The problem is, we were so unattended, we were basically ignored for the 90 min it took to have a glass of wine and a couple bites (which weren't what we ordered). I have been coming to Joey at 3 of their Seattle and surrounding area locations for over 10 years, and this was my first poor experience. I always order the same drink and entree and I noticed a difference in portion size, value for price, taste and culinary preparation.. Their Baja fish tacos were always amazing previously, but this time the fish and shrimp were both over-battered and overcooked, thus rendering them tasteless. All I could taste was batter. I also was not given the option of grilled or fried (which I would have chosen grilled) this time. The portion size has been reduced from 3 to 2 tacos, yet the price has increased. The amount of fish and shrimp also decreased. The only standard was the hot sauce that is still delicious and unique. My go-to cocktail was always the Long Island iced tea with slush on top. The taste was fine, but the serving size was cut in half and mostly ice. It was the first time I got absolutely zero buzz from a Long Island. SMH.. And again, the price has increased. We ordered the bang bang chicken appetizer for $20+ which consisted of 5 bite size pieces of chicken with some sliced vegetables. The chicken was overcooked, but the sauce was delicious. We were going to order dessert, as well, but as unimpressed as we were with the meal, we decided to go elsewhere, as our bill was already well over $100 for a so-so lunch.. The staff was amazing and the ambiance is great, as usual. I could just feel the cost-cutting efforts affecting both my cocktail and my meal, yet all the prices were higher. JOEY Kitchen Southcenter has been my go-to spot for all the other locations around King County. I've been a loyal customer for the past four years, and they never disappoint. While I enjoy all the locations, this one stands out from the rest. I visit this location every three months for drinks, especially their smoked old fashions. I also stick with their Szechuan Tofu Lettuce Wraps. I've tried other dishes like garlic fries and a few others, but the tofu lettuce wraps have become my favorites. However, there have been a few instances where the portion sizes have let me down. One time, I received a very small portion of lettuce for my wraps, and I couldn't finish the meal with only three pieces. Another time, I noticed that the portion size for the Szechuan Tofu Lettuce Wraps seemed smaller than usual. I'm not sure what they did, but I've heard that they're weighing the wraps and cutting bigger chunks. I brought this issue to my bartender out of curiosity, not for resolution. It was a bit surprising, but I appreciate their prompt attention to the matter. The team seemed genuinely concerned about my experience and went out of their way to accommodate me. They even gifted me with a second free order. In addition to the food and service, I want to give a special shout-out to the trio of bartenders, Shantel, Kat, and Kpojo. They consistently deliver exceptional customer service and drinks, and they never take a day off. It's clear that they're passionate about their work and enjoy interacting with customers. I let the manager know that I was having a stressful day and they made sure we got a table within 45 seconds. I sat down, and Jade greeted us within moments from sitting down. The wine selection is fantastic here... And I love how they handed us a sparkling wine right as we walked in the door. The waitresses... All of them I think we had more than three at our table. We're absolutely fantastic. I think they might only hire beautiful people. I would say the service was exceptional. They were so helpful and accommodating and let us make special request on the menu. Our waitress suggested great options. We sat outside and the two tables next to us were a little bit loud so they let us move our table as well. You should come here for the lettuce wraps for sure! I also really liked the little tiny happy hour sliders! My friend said the burgers were really delicious, but my husband thought the seafood linguine was severely lacking in flavor... And he regretted eating it because there were so many other delicious options. If I came back again, I don't think I would sit outside on the patio. I didn't feel particularly safe, although the night we were there, there were cops swarming the parking lot. There was an incident with a "weird man" making a woman feel uncomfortable...hence the swarm of cops. In a way I think that is really nice that they were there to help her and protect her, but it really killed the ambience. The inside is absolutely beautiful... I give the bathrooms also a five star. The place was full, with a good hustle, bustle vibe. I would dress nicely to come to this place.... It deserves your effort. My family came to this place for a farewell dinner for my siblings. There were 8 of us and got to this place around 10pm. It wasn't that busy but they told us to wait about 15-20 minutes. After we sat down, everything went smoothly. Angela, who was our server was amazing. She chatted with us for a few before she took our order. The burger that I had wasn't good, at all, but it seems like the majority of our group enjoyed their order. The menu is interestingly a variety of seafood, steaks and Asian Fusion. However the Food is always delightful. The Hibachi Wings are the most popular appetizer, and for good reason. Super crispy and tender and just spicy enough. I had the Oven Roasted Cod and it was fabulous. Served with a creamy Thai Peanut sauce it was so tasty. It had a slimy texture and was pretty hard to distinguish what it was - served on a block of rice - half of which I cut off before eating it.
