Choosing this company was the biggest mistake we made. We had a almost brand new mattress that they completely destroyed due to negligence, and refuse to reimburse us more than $54. When we started the move, we didn't feel the need to sign up for upgraded insurance. We were only using them for a few pieces of furniture and only moving 2 miles away. Apparently this gives them an open invitation to do what they want with your furniture because they don't need to pay. The movers had difficulty getting our mattress up the stairs, so they folded it like a taco and one mover body slammed it while the other yanked it up the stairs. This caused an enormous hole in the bottom of the mattress. I called the company immediately the next day when we saw it, and it has been months of me having to follow up with zero communication from them. They would ignore my emails, ignore my voice mails, and any time I would reach someone they said the claims department wasn't in the office and she would follow up with me the following Monday, and what a shock, I wouldn't hear from them. I have since received a letter that they are offering us $54 for the damage to the mattress, to which i said I didn't agree to the amount. I have yet to get a response or a check in the mail. This company is a bunch of crooks and they don't give a crap about what damage they do to someone's property. They have zero sympathy for the customers that hire them and I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. read more

A year and a half later.... "Corey F". on yelp who admits "knowing" Joseph C. Brooks IV, of Joey's has been sending me on yelp "compliments" and "messaging" this weekend inappropriate sexually charged profanity laced threatening hate messages targeting me personally saying that "Joey has told him all about me". This is all over the negative review last year. Why after all this time is "some random yelper" (or is he random?) contacting me with inappropriate sexual messages and hate on behalf of Joseph?! I have copies of the latest and I cannot post them because they would be removed for vile language. You can see a disturbing pattern here with Joseph C. Brooks intent to threaten me each time. The updates here are only posted each time he resurfaces. I have never contacted him since he was paid in full a year and a half ago, yet he keeps contacting me. I feel harassed and now a new violation of privacy law (see below). This is all over a bad review because he messed up my move big time. Is it worth the risk of using this "company"? Sexual harassment and libel is illegal and I will NOT tolerate any of this moving forward. BTW, Privacy Law: "Don't publicize other people's private information. Joey's Movers has done it, again! This time, they packed and moved my parents from their 4500 sq ft home to a condo. When I met with Joseph for an estimate, I was in complete distress with all the logistics of the move and my parents state of health. Although the estimate was higher than the two other bids, I felt comfortable relying on Joey's Movers to complete this job. Before the big day, Joseph, called me and said he wanted to bring his team leader for a quick walk around the house. The personal service is amazing! We had three dates scheduled and Sergio was our lead guy all three days. Sergio and his team arrived on time, worked the entire time and even packed things that weren't factored into the estimated time but managed to get it all done within the estimated time. Move day was a breeze-- Stephanie suggested that we move my parents favorite chairs first and their TV, to keep them entertained during the unload. Great idea!! The elevator stopped working at the new condo--- You have to be kidding me!!! This didn't stop them at all, the movers wanted to walk the remaining stuff up 4 flights of stairs and they still had to unpack the boxes. Amazing team! A few scratches on the wall at the old house but Stephanie had her handyman at the house within hours and repaired. Downsizing from 4500 sq ft with over 30 years of stuff to a 1200 sq ft apartment was a breeze, all thanks to the staff at Joey's. read more

This review is way over due, since last month marks the 4th time we have used Joey's Movers since summer 2010. In all cases, we have found the employees professional and pleasant to work with. They always come early, which is wonderful. They professionally and carefully pack everything we haven't packed ourselves, and so far, even up and down 3 1/2 flights of stairs, they have managed to keep several IKEA pieces of particleboard furniture intact which no one guarantees will survive. What I really like is that Joey or whoever the owner is cares enough about his employees to provide them with new and safe trucks and has taught them the proper way to lift heavy items without injury. We had a chance this last move from Evanston to downtown Chicago to observe how quickly and efficiently the employees work together and get the job done, compared to other companies moving people into the same highrise building. The front desk manager was so impressed at how efficient they were that she requested their company name and phone number since she receives many calls from incoming tenants about a moving company. I had such an amazing experience with Joey's Movers! Last year when I moved I had a terrible experience with the moving company and was very nervous to find a new one this year! I called all of the major ones (The Professionals, Two Men and a Truck, etc) but they all seemed very expensive. I only had 1 room to move and I was being quoted $700-800! Joeys was much more reasonable. I was nervous to book Joey's Movers because I had never heard of them but the price was much better than any other company. I was SO HAPPY I went with them. I booked my appointment for 8:00am, they showed up at 7:15am. I wasnt exactly ready and when they called they were fine with waiting until I was. I had 2 men, Anthony and Chris E, who were the best! They worked so hard in the hot weather, which turned to stormy rain. They were professional and pleasant. They were easy to work with and worked diligently the whole time. They got done very promptly and I was so happy about it.They were done in 4 hours, which included the drive from the city to the suburbs. I had a great moving experience with this company. Our appt. was set for 8am this past Saturday, and they showed up on time and ready to move. We had a guy and a girl mover, and as hesitant as I was to have a girl moving our stuff (being that I am one) she impressed me with being able to move 4 boxes at a time on her back!! They were both very friendly, and did not take a single break! They were very careful with our stuff and brought free padding and blankets, we well as wardrobe boxes. (Again free of charge!) At the end of the move they charged exactly what they had quoted (I was waiting for a hidden costs-but there were none!) and I was very pleased with the time it took to move us. Also, the price we were given beat out 3 other moving companies that quoted us originally. So it was a win/win for us! I highly recommend this company, and If we move again we will be using them. =) I've heard horror stories from other friends that had to move with other companies, and I'm grateful that I found a company that did exactly what they promised without any issues!! read more

We have used Joey's 3 times to move our student since 2010 - once out of a rental truck into an apartment 3 1/2 stories up (walk-up), out of that apartment into another apartment in Evanston, and finally, last month, from Evanston to downtown Chicago. In all three instances, the crew of 3 movers has arrived early, been professional and pleasant throughout the move, not broken or lost anything, and worked quickly and efficiently together. The front desk manager of the building where our student was moving into requested Joey's name and phone number and plans to refer future tenants to them. We like the fact that Joey's folks always have a very clean and new-looking truck for their safety. They also appear to have been instructed in the proper ways to life and move things so as not to injure themselves, which speaks well for the company's owner or owners. In all 3 moves, the crews have moved our student's possessions well within or better than the estimated time frame. I am only rating this company as a 5 Star because of my experience. First off, Christy (sp) was very informative with the information I was asking of her. The order was quick and concise and I received a pre-arrival phone call the day before to confirm time and place. Larry and V (my moving crew) showed up at the scheduled time and it was a no nonsense move of a 1br condo + a storage unit from Evanston, IL to Munster, IN. They did not try to sell me anything extra and they listened to exact instructions and did not deviate from the plan. Larry and V knocked out our move in 3 1/2 hours from start to finish. It was an example of what should happen in a stressful situation. I can only recommend this company based on my experience and the people I specifically dealt with (Christy, Larry and V). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND JOEYS MOVERS!!!!! It takes alot to impress me and my boyfriend but I was definitely please with this service and prices!!!! I moved in march and was very impressed with this service and the two men were very friendly, very careful with my possessions and wrapped up my t.v.s and furniture very securely and were very very careful in how they were handling my stuff. I have used Joey's Movers for 3 moves over the past 4 years and they are the best moving company in the area. The office makes appointments very easy, the pricing is far better than any other company (They don't charge you for the mileage to your moving from destination and then back to the office after they are done moving you in), and their movers are not only pleasant, but work diligently to get you moved very efficiently. They use temporary closet mover boxes at no charge so you don't have to disrupt the clothes you have on hangers, and they'll plastic wrap ($40 a roll) any furniture you need protected during the move for you, but only on your say so. I'd call them every time for every move and would recommend their services and their people to anyone looking for a great moving company. read more

We chose Joey's Movers based on a recommendation from a friend and neighbor and they exceeded our expectations. This was our first move in 20 years. We were downsizing from the suburbs to the city and Joseph walked us through every step of the way from laying out the prep timeline 6 weeks prior, to making sure we were on track, providing packing material and assistance, to the actual move, even providing storage for items we couldn't use in our new home. We had a great experience with Joey's Movers. We had a small apartment move that I had to schedule at the last minute. The staff was very quick to send me a quote and all the paper work needed to schedule the move. I had to arrange the move from a different state, so I was unsure of what to expect. The movers called me several hours before the move and asked if they could come early, we agreed upon a time and they arrived promptly. We moved from a 5 story building with a service elevator to a 2 story building with a rickety set of back stairs. I've had the pleasure of working with Russell and Jonathan. Two great professional movers (blowing kisses). As you know, moving is stressful, but Russell and Jonathan not only removed the stress from moving, but also managed to de-stress me. Russell called in advance to let me know when they will arrive. He explained everything to me every step of the way. Jonathan is very able-bodied, worked quickly and efficiently. Both were extremely polite and worked together strategically. I cannot praise them enough. Movers can be pricey, but this experience was worth every penny (Why can't all my interactions work out this way?). I'd like to give the highest rating to Joey's movers. The company set up a last minute move for me over the weekend and fulfilled their every promise. Sam, Maurice, David and some guys that stopped by to just see if they were needed were all professional, cleanly dressed in uniforms, kind and polite. Sam is the strongest piano mover in the metro area. He is smart, calm and obviously talented. I'm a piano tuner in the city for the last 25years and know what I'm talking about. I used Joey's Movers to move some very large and heavy dining room furniture that I purchased from an individual to our home. The two man crew of David and Chris arrived 15 minutes early which was great in their being punctual. They took great care in first wrapping and protecting the furniture. And then very carefully moving it down a very long and tight stairway from the 2nd floor condo and into their truck. And finally safely moving it into our home and carefully reassembling it. David and Chris were very professional and aware of safely moving the furniture. Joey's Movers were amazing during my recent move!! They were flexible with my moving date (because my new apartment ended up needing some last minute repairs. They showed up exactly on time, and were cheerful, friendly, neat and fast moving- even though I ended up moving during one of the hottest days of summer! I loved the crew that did my move - really impressive how much they could carry on their backs ( ! ) and go up and down 3 flights of stairs on a hot July day - over and over. The bill was fair so I decided to tip them over 50 % - which was not necessary at all but that's how good they were. I would have rated this business 5 stars, but for the less than customer service oriented owners-sorry. Joe and Sam, I think. I found the service with Joey's excellent from the start from the time I asked for a quote to when they delivered all my boxes after the move. I was a little surprised that they did not visit my place prior to the move since it turned out I needed every square inch of the 26-foot truck. My stuff would likely not have all fit if Petey hadn't been the master of box Jenga that he was. I was lucky to have the same crew for pick-up and delivery despite moving from Chicago to Indiana, with on time arrival both sides of the move. The movers were absolutely wonderful! Josh and Eric were so helpful and friendly. The price is right for a smooth, safe move. All my furniture was delivered in excellent condition and they were very efficient. It was a very hot day today, and I commend these young men for their professionalism, friendliness, and hard work!! I would suggest that Joey's Movers maintain a slightly more punctual schedule as my movers were an hour and a half behind schedule (not to fault the movers, just wishing I didn't have to call 3 times to get an ETA on their arrival).
