Full disclosure...my move with Joey's was a year ago...and you'd think that when you're done with a move, your interaction with a moving company ends. BUT--Joey's (and Joseph Brooks in particular) has been so much more than a moving company! I needed (okay, wanted) someone to clean my condo...Joseph passed along a great recommendation. When a light fixture in my bathroom broke 6 months ago (original to the condo, not touched by the movers), Joseph coordinated a handyman to come out and fix it for me. And just yesterday, more than a year after my move with Joey's, I received a card from Joey's for my birthday with a gift card to Gibson's--I mean....they did a fantastic job on my move, they have helped me keep my place clean, made my life simple by finding me a handyman...AND then they send me a gift card for my birthday??? I've worked with many companies over the years--I've known none of them to treat their customers with the respect and complete focus on customer satisfaction like Joey's. I've moved a lot in my life--over 20 times--and my move with Joey's was #1! read more

I loved the professional service provided by Joey's Movers. I had a move scheduled for March of 2015. Pideo, Sergio and George was hands down the best. Their experienced knowledge moving a home was remarkably fast and easy. All furniture and equipment was handled with care and concern. Wow, the response from Joseph at Joey's Movers is even more mind-boggling than their terrible service and communication. The statement that they "offered the option of finding a legitimate repair person your self, and covering your costs", and that we "chose not to", is a complete lie. We have all the emails from Joey's and the letter from the insurance adjuster as proof, and there is never any such offer. In fact, we asked if we could use a furniture repair company in Evanston that we knew was excellent, and they said we had to go to their place--the same place that kept the chair for over a month and then said they couldn't repair it. If Joey's had only really communicated with us or responded to our emails and calls, this all could have been resolved. So Joseph, does your offer to let us find a repair person and cover our costs still stand? We haven't received the $7.50 check that the adjuster said you would send for the damage to the chair . We'd still like to get our family heirloom chair repaired! read more

I have the pleasure of using Joeys Movers twice now. Both times they've provided cost friendly, efficient and well trained staff. Specifically David, one of the movers, has been nothing but accommodating. He's thorough, while moving fast and being patient with both my mother and I as we worked to pack a couple more boxes for them to take. All-in-all, they moved a single bedroom apartment from the suburbs to the city in about 2 1/2 hours well witching budget. I highly recommend! read more

Very disappointing experience with Joey's Movers doing our house move. Moving team arrived under-manned and ill-equipped for our large move. Floor protection for this Feb move was woefully inadequate resulting in a terribly dirty house after job was completed. Movers man-handled items and snapped back at me when I politely asked them to be careful with some of the more fragile things. The worse part was the bill I received after the move. It was grossly more than the original quote. Joey's nickle and dimed me for everything. Prior to the move they said I could re-schedule my move with no charge as long as it was 72 hours prior to the scheduled date. I did reschedule 72 hours prior to the move and the still charged my credit card a $369 change-date fee! The representative simply stated I got 'some wrong information'. Also, one of the many line-items on my final bill was over charged on my credit card by $350! They acknowledged that was a mistake, but I have yet to received my refund nearly two months after the move. My advice, if you have a big move with nice furniture and expensive housewares, avoid this outfit and go with a more established moving company. read more

This was my second time using Joey's Movers and I have absolutely nothing but good things to say. My most recent move we had Juan, David, and Josh as our movers. Sorry to say Joeys only lived up to part of the original job. They moved me out no problem. They held my stuff in storage but the nightmare began when they moved it to the final destination. The crew could not get my very expensive and big dresser up the stairs so it went back to storage only to be redelivered by another crew who got it up those same stairs and yes that cost me extra. Then after 10 months I've give up on Joeys to purchase the ottoman legs that they lost. I got them the information to purchase they only cost $52 but after countless lies and communication I'm done waiting for them. I'll be buying them, but Joeys shouldn't have strung me along for so long about how they were trying to get the legs they're on order to be in in 12 weeks only to have another excuse. Do yourself a favor go elsewhere for your move. read more

I used Joey's Movers to move an extremely large painting from my former office to my home. I was able to schedule these Movers with about a week's notice. The reasonable estimate was based on the size of the art work and the distance I think. A two-person team showed up at the promised time, accessed the work as directed by office staff on-site, wrapped it up with paper and reinforced cardboard corners, brought it to my home in their truck, unwrapped it once they got here, and took all the wrapping away with them. They did a great job: on time pick-up, quick delivery once they had it wrapped and in the truck, and careful delivery. Final cost was exactly as estimated. I would use Joey's Movers again. I thought this would be difficult due to it being art work and very large, but they made it easy! read more

What can i say.. Great movers - friendly, fast and efficient. They were late but called and updated on their likely time of move. They even put in a third man free of charge to compensate for the delay and ensure the move happened fast and properly. Put everything back in place and even assembled the dining table. The move time and charge was exactly as the estimate. They accept credit cards too so no need to carry cash! Would definitely recommend them and call them if i move again! read more

Joey's movers did a really good job. They arrived 15 minutes early (and didn't charge me for that) were well prepared and moved swiftly. They were careful with all our stuff and not a single thing was damaged. The two guys never took a break. I had to ask them repeatedly to take a few minutes to rest and drink the pop that I poured for them. They were really nice guys and willing to move anything, including some furniture that we'd already moved to our new house and needed moved into a different room. They did take an extra hour and a half more than what was quoted, but who can predict exactly how long it will take to move? I don't think it was because they were slow but more because we had more stuff than expected. Overall I highly recommend Joey's movers. Even my dad who was there with me was impressed and said he'd never seen such good movers in his life. read more

I've moved several times in the Chicagoland area and Joey's movers by far did the best job, was the most efficient, and had the most competitive prices. Joseph and his team moved us from Chicago to Boston last summer and they were professional, hardworking, careful with our things and cool guys to boot. Joseph was honest and responsive from start to finish and he took time to answer all of my questions and concerns. The move from old house to storage and then from storage to new house went smoothly. We even had a piano and they handled that well. There was one hitch with a couple of boxes getting slightly wet, but nothing was damaged and we did not have to claim anything against insurance. Given all of the complicated logistics, this was definitely forgivable. We have moved several times across state lines and given our range of experiences, this move was excellent. We used Joey's Movers to move my mother into her new senior living community and Joey's was fabulous! I can't recommend them enough. They were warm, friendly and very professional. I live out of town and my schedule changed and they were flexible, easy to work with and really went the extra step to make the move stress free. The team of guys they sent me were lovely. They were careful with the furniture, hard working, they got involved in our situation and made the move almost fun. We planned our major move for another time and the guys showed up thinking it was going to be one trip- after we got started, we realized we could do almost everything if they made another trip and they went for it without hesitation or complaint. These guys are ridiculous!!!!!!!!!! If I could give negative stars I would give Twenty! I got an expensive estimate from the owner, Joey. I chose to go with it because it was reasonable for the size of the move and I had gotten good reviews from others. They sent a 4 man team. Only two of the four actually worked constantly and with purpose. This caused the move to take a full two hours more than quoted (10 hrs total). Two pieces of furniture were broken. There was a very sad apology that did not contain even a hint of remorse, but rather an sad attempt at redemption by stating that at least they told us before they left. Then, post move, even though we were present the whole time, we eventually realized that there was quite a bit of missing possessions! From money to personally valuable gifts and electronics. We put in a claim. It has been months, and now they want to send people out to repair items that have already been repaired and they have not even addressed the valuable items. These guys are horrible!!!!! I hope that the two men who were on task and worked hard find another company to work with. read more

I would give detailed review but since they moved me and know where I live, I will keep it simple. They were super slow...I could've done it faster with couple of friends. They destroyed multiple stuff, scratched up the place, and were super unprofessional. I have had to (unfortunately) move 5 times in 6 years and have never had worse service. I was having a particularly complicated move with multiple locations involved and they started at the wrong location. While the lead guy sweet-talked me back into being less irritated, he moved so slowly that in the time it took to pack up, drive and unload the year prior (by a different company) This guy and his assistant had yet to finish loading up the truck. (I only used a different service this summer because I forgot the name of the previous company and Joey's was recommended by my sister). He never listened to me and was putting boxes in the wrong location and when I got mad at him and he kept saying, "don't worry, it's not a big deal...." I had to explain that his time/mistake is my dollar. He and his partner were also fighting with each other so much that I had to call the main office to complain because they stopped listening to each other adding insult to injury. The final stop was a goodwill store to have things donated and I would meet him there. He had my number to call when close. He called so I went there and waited for 1.5 hours (WHICH I'M STILL PAYING FOR). I couldn't get a hold of him and had to call the main office to get him tracked down. His voicemail was full and he wasn't answering my phone. when I asked him why he took so long after my call, he stated he never said he was close, even though that that was the whole plan in the first place. Finally, I noticed a month ago my bike is conveniently missing and while I saw it on the truck, I didn't actually watch them wheel it into the basement because I was too busy upstairs. read more

I used Joey's twice in the summer of 2013. I used them a second time because the first move went fine (I do agree with many of the other posters about personnel problems, but this alone wouldn't motivate me to write a review. Yes, the workers complained about the workload and about their supervisor stealing their tips. Also, when one mover asked to borrow my box cutter he looked at it and declared, "Hey! That's just like the one I got stabbed with in a knife fight!"). But as I said, I don't care if movers aren't delightful. In the first move they showed up on time, moved everything quickly, worked hard, and didn't break anything. So I hired them again when I moved three months later. When I unpacked after the second move I found many, many broken items, including damaged antique furniture, broken frames, baskets, an antique doll bed, an expensive juicer that was destroyed, and a box of china and glass where every single item in the box was shattered. I filed a claim. It took one year to be processed. At the end of the year I received a check for $30.00. During the one year, I called too many times to count, and each time they treated it as if it was the first time I called. Though each time I called I spoke with the same two people, I had to give my name, address, complaint, and state every single item that was damaged or ruined every single time. I can't count the times I was told someone would call me the next day and didn't. I can't count the times I was told the claim would be filed that day and that I would receive a check right away. I can't count the times I was misunderstood (they had some sort of furniture repairman call me twice even though I stated that with sentimental pieces that are well over 100 years old I'd rather hire my own repairman. I told Joey's several times that I didn't care if the furniture was not a part of the claim.) and had to repeat the nature of my claim over and over again. I was treated with complete apathy from the time I made the claim to my last call nearly one year later. Needless to say, receiving a check for $30 (still with no apology or show of concern about my loss or inconvenience or even an apology about the one-year run-around/delay) was the final insult. read more

I have used them twice ...the move is smooth but the second time they had offered me a discount of 10% over the phone but after the move refused the discount saying that the actual hours were less than the estimate. read more

Joey's Movers did an outstanding job with our move. Their staff were exactly on time, extremely quick and efficient and managed to fit everything in a storage locker saving us hundreds on an additional locker. We absolutely will use them when our home is finished being built to move from the storage locker to our new house. read more

I have moved several times in the Chicago area, and this by far was the WORST moving experience I have ever had. Not only were the two men who were sent to me extremely rude and hard to work with, but they caused interior damage to the home. They also knocked down a power line on a neighbors car. Don't think these guys are trained drivers. Cops were involved and it delayed the moving time, which I was still charged for. I have now been waiting since August to be reimbursed for the damage. When I tried to call the office, I was bounced around to different people who didn't know the answer to my questions, nor could tell me if my claim had been received or processed. After trying to resolve an issue with damaged furniture, I just filed a complaint with BBB. If that doesn't work, I'm going to have to take them to court. They have done everything possible to avoid dealing with a complaint. They also showed up with two people instead of three, took twice as long and charged me for it. Forget several pieces of my furniture - I had to pay someone to go back the next day with a truck to pick up those pieces. At least the movers were friendly and worked hard. read more

It should be noted my movers (total of three men) we very nice guys, respectful, professional, and with good personalities. Very pleased with their work. One of the mover's name, Joe, and his men were awesome! So why only one star then? Because their customer service/office people are THAT HORRIBLE. Definitely see and read the review from Victoria from 2/19/14. Her experience was right on point with mine. My move was Friday, June 27, moving from Chicago to Milwaukee (for a new job). Literally 48hrs before my move I get a voice message at 6pm informing me that my scheduled move that was originally at 2pm was cancelled. There was some miscommunication with my company plus Joey's DOES NOT accept Amex (yeah, that whole different topic - who doesn't take AMEX?!?!) Joey's requires a deposit within 48hrs. Hey, I get rules and policies. But if you ask me it should be a little fluid. I was going to move in less than 2 days and you tell me end of Wed that my time slot is gone. Not cool. As you might imagine, I was freaking out. I was later told that evening that a morning time slot for Friday had just opened. Annoying but fine, whatever. The bigger issue for me was their "estimate" policy. I am not in the moving company, obviously. But I would think an estimate is an educated guess on what the total time will be. Meaning could be less could be more. Long story short, Joey's overestimated big time. When I called their office on 6/27 at 10:25AM to see if they could be flexible since it seemed my move would be several hours less, the gentleman (and I say that loosely) was nothing by rude, demeaning, even raising his voice at me. At one point he says "I can call the truck back, I really don't care." Hmmm... the truck at that point was already going to Milwaukee with my belongings. Who says that to a customer????? I was then transferred to a woman who a little nicer but they failed to put the phone on mute and heard them speak ill of me. I truly felt I was being attacked. My point that I was trying to get across is their "estimate" is just that... a guess. If the work was more hours than the estimate then I am sure I would have had to pay extra. Then why if the work is less should that not be considered? Fair is Fair. Joey's office workers lack professionalism, sense, and need an attitude adjustment. Oh yeah, the work/move was done with 4 hours to spare which I ended up having to pay for. Sweet!! In all, the movers were a joy to work with and take good care of your stuff. However, I would NOT recommended Joey's unless it is a last resort. You will spare yourself the negative attitude and headaches. read more

David and Darius were amazing in helping us move our large, in quantity and size, furniture out of our home to a 2nd story apartment. Our moving experience was exceptional because of their speedy efficiency, experienced expertise and great personalities. They worked super hard despite the difficulty of the move, and had a optimistic attitude the whole way through. It really felt like they cared for us as individuals instead of just a job. I felt very fortunate to meet such great people during a stressful time, and can honestly say they've helped brighten a daunting task. Thank you Joey's for having such a great team on your staff! I used Joeys movers yesterday to move my mother from one nursing home to another. It was not a large or complicated move...but I certainly have experience with movers making things more complicated (and expensive) than they should be. David (sorry I did not get the other guys name) was about 5 minutes early. They were really quick to move things. I had some stuff that was not boxed up and they were kind enough to take it (nothing fragile or important) and not demand that it be packed in moving boxes. I had a couple small pieces of furniture that I wanted to take to my house...if the move had taken the full two hours I would have just put them in my car and moved them myself. (hassle for me). But they were so quick and speedy we had time to deliver them to my house. Furthermore..the delivery entry to the nursing home is narrow and complicated to maneuver. If they had horsed around and chewed through time trying to get into the little narrow area...I honestly would have fallen for it. But they were quick and professional. I am very happy and I would recommend them. ( Joeys Movers was on a list of "recommended" movers from the nursing home...but it was Yelp reviews that made me select them over the others) read more

I wasn't happy with their service at all. I had chosen this company after I had compared them with Elite moving company and their quote came out nicely priced. I was told that for a 1 bedroom they recommend three man and usually takes three hours plus the truck fee would come out to about $450. I was also told that they furniture wrapping was included. Anyways I live very contemporary and don't have much furniture 1 couch 1 chair a coffee table, a dining table with 4 chairs, queen bed, chest two night stand and two stools. Thats it! I was hoping it would take only the three hours and however I was already setting my mind to pay anywhere about $500-$600 tops. The movers arrived on time and they were very friendly so that was cool. I also saw that they started with the boxes and than furniture. They were moving so fast and I also saw they were wrapping all furniture with way too many layers of plastic. I thought it was cool that in less than an hour, 45 min to be exact they were done emptying the apartment. I than felt good about it that I took an uber to the new apartment and decided to meet them there. I was very pleased about the timing and all that I even called the company to asked if I was able to tip the movers in my card ir cash only and I was told I could tip in my card. After I arrived to my new apartment which is also in downtown (30 min if walking from the previous) i made it in 10 minutes in an uber. I waited For a bit over two hours and until the movers FINALLY arrived! I even called them a couple of times wondering why the hell they were taking so long to arrive when I know the place is so close by. And I left when they had already empty out my old apartment. I just kept being told they would be there shortly. They finally arrived and now there were not 3 movers but 4 movers, I guess one was the supervisor. That would explain why they took forever they probably were waiting for the supervisor to arrive while they were charging me for those two hours of wait. And maybe even a 1 more man fee as well. After they arrived they also easily got everything into my new apartment because again, I don't own much. After all I ended up paying $800 and sum dollars for the moving which turns out the the unnecessary layers of plastic they kept wrapping on all the furniture was not included and i was being charge along with their two hours of wasted time. Right before I made the ridiculous payment one of the movers even gad the guts to tell me that If i wanted to tip them they can only accept cash or a check (after the company had told me i could do card) so i ended up paying close to $1000! The price was ridiculous and was a lot higher than what the quote was. Even when I moved on my on with two of my friends didn't take me this long like this movers took. I don't recommend them at all and I will never use them again. Such a ripoff read more

David and Patrick from Joey's Movers just helped us move some very heavy, old antique furniture, including an oak sideboard from the 1900's. They also moved an upright freezer. They were very professional and made it look effortless. I would use them again in a heartbeat. read more
