LOVE LOVE LOVE these caterers, I recently hired JLC to cater my wedding at Milagro Winery. They did such an amazing job. Working with John and Cathi was a delight, they let us completely customize our menu since we wanted comfort BBQ food and request anything we wanted. I still have people telling me how the food at our wedding was the best they ever had, not to mention their chicken and waffle appetizers were a huge hit. The best thing about JLC is they also do rentals, we ended up using them for all our linen rentals, and some decor furniture. They styled a sweetheart lounge for us with a gorgeous couch and chairs that was a great photo space. They also made sure that everything they used to decorate their tables and displays completely matched the theme of my wedding. It's taken me 6 months to write this review because every time I sat down to write it I would get worked up. I could write a novel about my experience with John Little but I'll keep it short and sweet. Cathi is by far the most unprofessional woman I've had the displeasure of working with. She was rude, lacked communication skills, offends easy, and then lies to you when you confront her. They are also way overpriced - they will nickel and dime you for every little detail. Unfortunately they can't even get the details correct. My quotes were wrong every single time. After going back and forth for months I decided to cancel my contract with them - they refused to refund my money even though it was a year away from my event. Cathi said, and I quote "My time is worth $1,000". Apparently a handful of emails and an hour long phone consult is worth $1,000. We used John Little Catering for our wedding and heard nothing but rave reviews the whole night. Everyone loved the BBQ pulled pork buffet we had! They also helped us to figure out how many rentals we would need to get and coordinate other rentals, like port-a-potties, which we needed for our venue. They also helped us look at cheaper alternatives when prices seemed higher than what we wanted--disposable plates and cutlery, providing our own dessert, and were flexible with our changes. They also provided bartenders to serve the alcohol we brought in/got from our venue. With how the day turned out and the quality of the food I would definitely recommend JLC for your catering needs. However, there were a few things-mostly involving communication beforehand-that were frustrating at times. They forgot about a couple of our meetings and had an elusive "administrative fee" that would raise each time we spoke without explanation. They would always apologize for not being on top of it with communication because they "are so busy"--which I get, and is great for their business, but not something you really want to hear when trying to plan your own wedding, you at least want to feel like a priority even if it isn't true. We reached out to John and Cathi after seeing John Little Catering on the list of approved vendors from our venue. Prior to reaching out to John Little Catering, we had one other tasting at a larger, more commercialized catering company, and frankly weren't very impressed with the food and were a little put-off by the fact that they charged us for it. From the beginning, Cathi Little was warm and welcoming, and worked hard to help us come up with an idea for a menu. She had a quote to us, including all of our rentals, in no time and was more than happy to schedule a tasting with us. Our tasting took place in John and Cathi's home in Ramona, an extremely personal touch that blew us away. John cooked all of the items from our menu right in front of us in their gorgeous kitchen, and Cathi talked us through all of the details. John prepared several different salads (his homemade dressings are divine) and versions of each selection (chicken, fish, vegetables, etc.) that he thought would work well for our venue and time of year (he only uses the freshest ingredients available). By the end of our night at John and Cathi's we knew that they were the perfect Catering team for us, so we immediately signed a contract and gave them a down payment. Easily one of the best decisions we made. Flash forward to two weeks before our November wedding, and there was rain in the forecast. Our venue was in Ramona, California (where it NEVER rains), and was all outdoors, so as expected I was a little stressed. One email to Cathi regarding the rain, and I was instantly relieved. She offered to put together an entire rain plan for us including tenting for our guests and all of our vendors, on top of the other weddings she was finalizing at the time. She communicated quickly, and made my life so much easier at a time when I felt like our whole event would be ruined. Thankfully, it did not end up raining on our wedding day, but the fact that Cathi worked so hard to make sure we were covered in case it did is just one example of how the John Little Catering team reliably provides service that goes above and beyond expectations. On the day of our wedding, John Little Catering blew every single one of our guests away with the quality of John's food and the beauty of Cathi's displays. Every single member of the John Little Catering team was gracious and had a smile on their face for the whole evening, a detail that did not go unnoticed, Cathi made sure that my husband and I were taken care of the whole evening. My new mother-in-law, who is not afraid to give constructive criticism, told us that John Little Catering provided the best meal she has ever had at a wedding or large event, and she's been to a lot of them. As someone who plans corporate Holiday Parties every year, I can easily say that John Little Catering is the best catering company I have ever worked with, and I have worked with some of the top hotels in the area. We used John Little for our wedding at the Milagro Farm Vineyards and Winery, in Ramona. Although the price is a little high, you are getting what you paid for! The food we had was fresh, flavorful, and fit the setting at the winery very well. We opted for their standard tri-tip and turkey breast options, with the wine-makers salad, roasted veggies, and garlic mashed potatoes. Everyone enjoyed the food very much and the set-up and displays were very nicely done. JLC also provided us with a variety of cakes to go with our Julian pies. (We opted to do this rather than provide one large cake.) Although I barely had a chance to try all the cakes, the one I did sample was delicious and everyone else enjoyed them, too. All of our guests loved the food, they were very accommodating when we increased our guest count and asked them to provide ice, cups, and tableware the week before the wedding. We're getting married in Ramona and our venue doesn't have a list of required vendors but John Little Catering was on their "preferred vendors" list. Boy am I glad I contacted them! First off, Cathi is an absolute sweetheart and has a real eye for detail. Since we're getting married at a newer winery, we have to rent EVERYTHING... from toilets to lights to silverware. I had no clue where to start but Cathi quickly put together a rental list for me and when the rental quote came back higher than what I expected she helped me figure out what would and would not be missed. Even after we cut the rentals down, the price was still way higher than need be so she gave me the list to take to different rental companies around San Diego, so that I knew everything that we needed and that I could get the best price possible. Then there is John. You can really tell that John cares about food and wants to make sure that any food coming from his kitchen is top notch. We went to their house in Ramona for our tasting and we were absolutely floored with how good everything was. They even made cute little hand pies for dessert that were phenomenal. AND THEN to top it all off, after the tasting, John took me and the fiancé around their beautiful property on a polaris which might be the coolest off road vehicle I have ever seen/been in. John Little Catering provided excellent service the day of our wedding! Our guests were very pleased with the food and the staffs' level of attentiveness. I was very happy with the decorations that John Little provided. The only area that needs improvement is in communication. Cathi was very responsive at first, but then took a very long time to provide the final bill and I had to ask for it several times (caused a lot of stress on our end having to deal with tying up loose ends a week before the wedding). If you have a budget in mind make that clear to Cathi and ask her to update you if there is any changes that may cause mark-up because unfortunately, this was another issue that we ran into. After selecting the venue for our daughter's wedding, selecting the caterer was the next most important decision. We met with several caterers, but after our initial meeting with John and Cathi Little, we knew they were the best choice for the wedding. We were provided with a highly detailed proposal that gave options but left no surprises. Our communication with them was excellent. We used John Little Catering and their venue, which is called The Mary Louise at Carvalho Ranch & Vineyard for my daughter's wedding. We had 150 people and they could have easily handled more. They hosted, catered and staffed the wedding and reception and did a wonderful job of coordinating all the details. The food was absolutely fabulous! We had both pulled pork and a barbecued chicken and both were seriously amazing. Also, their corn salad is the bomb! The owners, Cathi and John, as well their staff were so helpful and gracious throughout the planning, during the event and even afterward with the leftover details. Having he event at their ranch was ideal because they had very few limitations unlike many of the other venues we had looked into. They have plenty of parking just steps from the venue area and even provided parking attendants. Having the wedding and reception all at the same place worked out wonderfully and they had a refreshment area for before the ceremony started as well as a cocktail area for the time between the ceremony and reception and it was all beautiful and fun. I would recommend them for any event, whether you need a venue and caterer or just a caterer. Just a side note, we had the event in the heat of the summer, and although a more ideal time would be spring as far as landscape aesthetics and weather go, it was still really nice, they have lots of shady oak trees. read more

Our wedding was in the hills of Ramona and catered by John Little Catering. If you only have money for one vendor use them they will bring THE BEST food AND their artistic vision is enough for all the decoration you will need. My wedding was last month and I am STILL getting compliments about the food. They worked with exactly what we wanted with food and the overall theme/vision of our wedding. They are DEFINITELY worth it. We had a cheese and snack display that was the most beautiful display and so delicious. It was straight out of Pinterest. Ive never seen a more amazing catering staff. For example of the above and beyond service, my cake hadn't been delivered before my florist had to leave to decorate the cake so the VISIONARY John Little stepped in and decorated it EXACTLY how I dreamed of it looking.
