Always hate to give a small business a bad review , I am not picky at all and love the Mom and Pop breakfast places . When you start out with unfriendly service you hope to at least get some good food , breakfast burrito was really tasteless , Hash browns were pure grease , Huevos Rancheros was terrible and I will agree with another post that McDonald's would have been a better choice and that's a sad statement because that's a last resort choice . You really shouldn't work in customer service if you can't be friendly , the interior really looks like it's been around for 30 years . I will never understand why a business owner who is obviously doing ok doesn't invest some $ back into their business , at least bring the place into the 80's . Except for a few things on the menu most everything is pretty mediocre. The hamburgers are super thin so you better order a double. The Pastrami is pretty good and the onion rings are as well. The huge fried zucchini seems so generous but it doesn't work. The huge sticks just do not cook right and the zucchini to breading ratio is way off...way to much zucchini.... they could cut them thinner and make the burgers thick enough to taste. Been coming to John's for 26 yrs and what has happened. Every meal ordered so far was awful. So much sauce just dumped on top of gyro with overly large onions and tomatoes. Gave johns a one star only because there was no 0 option. This is entirely because of the service and treatment from the owner, not about the food which was decent at best. The restaurant got my order wrong and when I sent it back, they merely scraped off parts of the plate instead of remaking it. Come here because only place open sunday before 8am in the area on the way for an early morning hike. Excited that there was breakfast option around besides corporate fast food however would have rather gotten a sausage mcmuffin. We love breakfast burritos so we ordered the breakfast burrito... super underwhelming. The hash browns weren't crispy, cheese wasn't melted and the burrito was very greasy. Didn't come by once but to drop of food had to get up for my own refill and to get a to go box which isn't a big deal to me but when she's walking around you to help everyone else who must be her regulars then it starts to bother you. This weekend finds me in Palm Desert/La Quinta for a cousin's wedding last night. Had some after ceremony/pre-reception drinks and appetizers at Las Casuelas on Hwy 111 and Washington. The salsa was pretty bland. A bit chunky but just no spice at all. I had a del rey margarita but I am a bad judge of anything tequila. I dont handle it well, so I get lit up pretty quick. It did make the conversation fun and probably made the BBQ chicken flautas better than they probably were. Then lots of drinks at the reception at some country club. Sexy dresses and dancing on tables. I am sure people had a good time. I am with family and, at my dad's suggestion, we go to John's for breakfast this morning. You order at the counter and they give you a number (Carl's Jr style) for your table. The staff is friendly, the servers were roaming the diner on a regular basis, refilling coffee or water or w/e. I ordered the bacon, cheese and avocado omelette cuz the plate came with hashbrowns. I have been craving hashbrowns for a long time now. It seems everywhere I go, they serve homefries And I hate homefries. But happy day! They have hashbrowns. The cleanliness of this place has been mentioned before, and I did notice the table was a bit sticky at the edge, but they did have a sign in the window showing an "A" rating. I actually dont know how they rate a place. If the rating only applies to the kitchen and food preparation area, then I am fine with that. I can deal with a sticky table or floor as long as the plates, utensils, and food are clean. The omelette comes and it is nice and large and the eggs are fluffy. I am not a big bacon fan, but overall the omelette is good. The avocado and cheese are great with the eggs and bacon. The hashbrowns are crispy and crunchy and totally make my day. I put a bit of tobasco on both, it just makes them taste that much better. The wheat toast is soft and lightly buttered, just how I like it. After a couple of pieces of toast I find they were hiding even more of the already copious amount of hashbrowns that were on my plate. YAY! I ate every bite, felt satisfied, and not a bit of any after meal groggieness for my 100 mile drive back home. I now really want to make a trip out to Morongo casino for a night just so I can go back to John's for breakfast to try their gyros and feta omelette. read more

We have been going to Johns for approx 15 years. Today we waited such a long time for our food, while people who came in after us were being served, we asked the waiter about this . . . Twice. He finally brought it and my omelets was cold and the potatoes were burned to a crisp. My husbands food was fine. We sent mine back ( who wants to eat a cold cheese omelet?). And within minutes it was brought back to me. They had flipped the potatoes over, so the burnt side was underneath. The eggs were still cold. We asked for the manager, and the owner came to our table. We could hardly explain the situation, when he started yelling at us. He rolled his eyes the whole time we were trying to explain the situation, as well. "What do you want", he kept yelling. The grill guy went off on my husband , when he brought my dish back, as well. It was unbelievable. After 15 years we will never go in there again. The owner is a bully and the grill guys are belligerent and nasty. It's obvious what happened. The made my order and somehow missed my husbands. So they made his fresh and delivered mine cold. Rather than just take care of the situation, they behaved like hot headed idiots. The one saving grace was Rosie, who took our order in the first place. She came over and apologized I hope the owner realizes what a gem Rosie is. Awe...makes me sad that there are some real bad reviews. This is a great place. The staff are super sweet and the price is cheap cheap cheap. If you need to take the kids out for a burger, way higher quality than Mc D's or something like that. I have always found the food to be fresh. Great breakfast at a killer price. I dont really eat a lot of greasy food...so I order the feta and spinach omelet with fresh fruit, its really good. They also have a great grilled chicken salad. So there are some healthy alternatives which is why I like it. I can satisfy the kids with a burger and fries as a nice treat and I can have something moderately healthy. I have gone here for years and maybe had 1 bad meal. A great place to stop when your in town with the family, especially if you want to keep the bill down. read more

It's your typical greasy spoon. A bit on the pricey side for being a greasy spoon. The food came out promptly and was hot. I wasn't a fan of the way they prepare their hash browns. What a pleasant surprise to come across John's today. After a fun tram ride up the San jacinto mountain earlier in the day, we went back to the John's Restaurant we had passed earlier for a late lunch. Friendly and efficient service, very reasonable prices and surprisingly large portions of great tasting, well prepared food. I had the southwest chicken sandwich, my wife the Cobb salad and my two friends the omelets ( with special requests on each). End result, all just perfect. We are visiting from the East coast. John's is a great local diner. I have usually ordered the same items and recommend them. The Cowboy burger is delicious, perfectly cooked bacon with a yummy bbq sauce and onion ring. Sometimes I order the California burger which is equally as delicious. The grilled cheese with bacon is a staple order as well. These items I know well and love. The onion rings are good with the burger but not my favorite style as a substitute for fries. I have enjoyed the food there and to go. read more
