Curbside pick up review I would like to first state that i have been a huge fan of JM and have visited here many times, always had great food and service, never once a complaint and have even stopped just for the cheese curds and an old fashioned at the bar. When curbside option became available we wanted to support local businesses in the area so we ordered curbside pick up the first night it was offered. Our ordered consisted of 2 burgers, one cheeseburger plain with ketchup and one burger with the works, one order of cheese curds, fries. We received two plain burgers no ketchup, one was well done, one was medium, fries that were not even remotely brown and crispy, they were actually white and probably just thawed out, and heavenly cheese curds. I emailed the restaurant to let them know how disappointed we were in the food we received and did receive a phone call soon afterwards to call them back to discuss. The conversation I had is what prompted me to review our experience. "we do not supply ketchup on our burgers as we assume you have it at home. we can not be responsible for the burgers and how they are cooked, whether well done or medium" when I questioned the fries that were not even cooked.... "I guess we fell short on your order, we have been shut down for 7 weeks" Quite honestly for $45 for 2 burgers and an app, and an attitude of we don't care I will not be returning to JM. If you were not ready to open for curbside pick up then you should not have been opening. Also prompting me to review - we ordered burgers from another local eatery in our area, they asked us how we wanted them cooked, the burgers were perfect and the fries were perfect, half the cost of JM and the customer service was spot on. Very disappointing to say the least, we expected more from JM!! read more

After reading a lot about the parking situation at Johnny Manhattan's, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find a parking spot right away upon arriving around 7 PM on a Saturday evening. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the next couple of hours... We got seats at the bar right away (beautiful bar, by the way) and had a front row seat to watch the three bartenders passing back and forth in front of us for the next 20 minutes or so. They seemed to be keeping busy - emptying the dishwasher, taste-testing the tonic water because they were having drinks sent back for bad tasting tonic, etc. - but they couldn't quite manage to notice us long enough to take our order. After 20 minutes, we finally had our order taken. I closed out our tab right away because I could already foresee waiting another 20 minutes to get someone's attention to pay our tab once our table was ready - and it was ready shortly thereafter. Thus began the next, slightly bizarre, portion of our evening. After being seated, our waitress arrived around five minutes later. She took my second drink order, a vodka martini, and our appetizer order of escargot. Then she recommended the burrata... "in case we were thinking about an appetizer," she said. Uhm... you do notice that I've already mentioned her taking our escargot appetizer order, right? Maybe 30 seconds earlier? We told her that we'd just stick with the escargot... My drink came a bit before the escargot, and it was room temperature. I don't know about you, but warm vodka has never really appealed to me. I asked if they could chill it down for me and they did - much better. When they brought the chilled martini back, my wife ordered another glass of wine. We were very pleased with the escargot. They were large and flavorful and there were 18 of them! They came with some thick Texas toast-style bread and were delicious. Our waitress came by to check on how they were and to take our dinner order. After ordering our dinners, we also took the opportunity to remind her of my wife's wine order... Shortly after we finished our appetizer, our waitress returned. She had lost our dinner order, so needed to take it again. After repeating our order, we also took the opportunity to remind her of my wife's wine order... About ten minutes later, our salads arrived. They were excellent. The dressings were apparently house-made and very tasty - and the salads were accompanied by some very good crusty bread. By the time our waitress came back to get the plates we still had no complaints about the food whatsoever. At that time, we did, however, take the opportunity to remind our waitress of my wife's wine order... Next, and you may have a hard time believing this, but... the wine arrived!!! Our dinners followed shortly thereafter. I had the prime rib and my wife had the filet. Both steaks were great! For sides, my wife had the buttermilk ranch mashed potatoes and loved them and my baked potato was very good. Clearly, food-wise, Johnny Manhattan's has things well in hand. This would be a four-star review if I was only talking about the food... and isn't that supposed to be the hard part? Making high quality, consistently-delicious food? Unfortunately, the service brought the entire experience down. I don't think we'll be making a trip back, which is a real shame because the food was so good! read more

Sure don't know what all the fuss is about this place. I do like steak, they have steak and you will pay top dollar for the cut of meat. Every time we have eaten there, we were not able to get our table at the reserved time, always over. Service is average, parking is a pain, cocktails are high priced ... this is downtown Hubertus, not Milwaukee ... After hearing nothing buy good things about this place for a long time... my wife and I finally stopped in for some MEAT! From the outside, you would never expect the richly-warm steakhouse atmosphere, but thats exactly what you get. I'm guessing it used to be a bar a one point... they really did a nice job with the conversion to a steakhouse. A good start... we'll start off with a B+. We sat in a cozy booth and started with bread @ the table, salad and French onion soup. Another B+. Next our en tree's came. My wife had the small fillet, I forget what mine was called... it was smothered in mushrooms and melted cheese... I called it delicious! My wife loved her meal too. We didn't have room for desert... portions were ample. A. And to top it off... The tall blond waitress was a pro! A+. All in all... I'd have to give this place a SOLID A. We had High hopes and had heard people rave about the food. We were kinda excited. What we learned? If you will arrive after 6:00 PM on Friday? Don't bother. Arrived around 6 PM. Zero parking in any of the three lots...mostly because people in Wisconsin have no idea how to park. Spent ten minutes trying to find a spot. Got inside and got a place in line. They said it would be a 1 hour wait. They were right. Lots of people smashed into the bar and entryway waiting to be seated After an hour, we get seated ( two of us). We ordered our drinks and our food right away. We had heard people rave about the Fish Fry and soup. So we went with that. Except for the clam chowder soup. By 7 PM they were out of it. Completely. Nada. Disappointed, we ordered the combo Fish Fry with potato pancakes, no soup. 10 minutes after our order was placed, our server comes out and informs us they are out of the pancakes. Crinkle fries it was. What food we did get was good. The pre meal salads were spot on. The service was good. An hour later our food arrived because "There was a big party in front of you". Got it. Message received. Don't come after 6 PM on a Frdiay, Don't expect to have soup or pancakes if you do, and Don't expect to be served in a timely matter if you're just two people. I've heard good things regarding Johnny Manhattens and as it's close by, I made reservations for our Supper Club group at 7pm for a Thursday evening. The inside of JM's is beautiful. You will love the rich woodwork. They have a large bar area, but, unfortunately, it was staffed by only one bartender. It was apparent he was swamped by himself, and after checking in with the hostess, our group sat down at the bar for a predinner cocktail. Again, unfortunately, we were unable to get a round for better part of 10 minutes. I approached the hostess and was happy that they would be able to seat our group at the outside patio area. (They do not reserve seating outside as space is limited.) it was a gorgeous night in Wisconsin in late June. They sat us down and took drink orders. The menu was decent, not overly loaded with options, but this is unusual times. Our drinks arrived and our waitress was very attentive, took our orders and did a fabulous job telling us about that nights specials with great detail(from memory). The bread and dipping sauce was excellent. Salads were good. This was everyone's first visit to JM. I had the Rack of Lamb: excellent. Others enjoyed scallops, New York strip steak. The meals arrived perfectly warm and well presented. My meal came with grilled asparagus~outstanding. The sauces were excellent, everyone commented. We finished up with after dinner drinks. The Grasshoppers were very good. Our meal, with drinks cane to roughly $70/person. Not outlandish considering the quality of the food was great and drinks were decent. Just took my fiance for birthday dinner. Warm reception at the front desk and seated earlier than our reservation. Our waitress, Jill, was absolutely outstanding. Her suggestions were helpful and she took time to talk to every one of her customers and made them feel welcome. We loved the cheese-filled garlic bread, steak and wine selection. Was impressed with the chef's attention to the presentation and quality of the food. After being stuffed with healthy portions of great food, we ordered chocolate lasagna to take home. A very mixed review. Excellent facilities w pretty good food that was ruined by a bad bar bill and an uncaring manager. We ordered 3 local Milwaukee beers on tap and 3 lemon drop martinis and received a $90 bill. That makes no sense, even with rising prices 3 beers and 3 martinis R not worth 90 dollars. The fact that the manager wanted to be right rather then considering the reaction of the customer was really galling. A small token of consideration would have gone a lot farther then a "this is the price " attitude. We will not be back as a result. read more

While the restaurant is beautifully redecorated there are some issues. We were there on a weeknight and fortunately there was seating available as our reservations were not recorded. Perhaps being on Open Table would help out. We had drinks at the bar before sitting down and our bartender was incapable of making a drink correctly even after two attempts to help him. More than that he was argumentative and frankly unpleasant. In most commercial situations arguing with a customer is a non-starter. Upgraded listening skills would be an asset. The wine list is comprehensive but oddly organized. Our server was very nice and quite efficient. She was very helpful in explaining portion sizes in order to share some of the side dishes. I have no real quibble with the food although at least one of the steaks was on the tough side. Would I go back? I suppose so but would not do so anytime soon. This attractive restaurant has been one of our favorite spots for about 6 years. We were there during Covid and always received exemplary food and service. We dined there tonight for our anniversary. I heard the couple next to us tell their server that it was also their anniversary. The bar and restaurant are clean, with plenty of aisle space. They had a full house. Our cocktails were especially good and well made. My husband ordered the onion soup and it did not disappoint. Our waitstaff was helpful, informative and friendly. Our salads arrived and the homemade dressings were delicious. However, I would never let salads like that leave my kitchen. Dry, lifeless iceberg lettuce (the white portion), 1 tiny piece of grated carrot, 2 large dried up onions, a small cucumber slice and 2 very tiny tomatoes. I looked around the dining room and all the salads looked like this. I would be ashamed to serve something like this. Our steaks were also disappointing. My husband's ribeye was served medium-medium well instead of medium rare. It was tender, but lacked the juiciness that he normally would have received. There were no juices on the plate. I ordered the petite filet medium rare, but it had no pink in it whatsoever. It was tender, but very dry. There were no juices on the plate. The quality of the meat was consistent with the other times we've dined there, but the preparation of the meat was very disappointing. The waitstaff was so nice that we didn't complain. It was our anniversary and we wanted to have a nice evening together. We kind of thought that since we said it was our anniversary that they'd offer a complimentary dessert to share, but we didn't get one and the couple next to us didn't either. We ordered a dessert to share and, while very fresh and visually appealing, the chocolate layer cake was overly sweet and missing true chocolate flavor. Will we be back? I don't know. Amazing food and experience! We are new to the area and went with a party of four to check out another local restaurant. The building is beautiful, the staff is friendly, and the food was fantastic. I had the prime rib which was perfect (my father in law said it was the best he ever had and he frequents supper clubs all over Wisconsin), my wife had crab legs and enjoyed them, my mother in law had the scallops and also said they were some of the best she had ever had. Haven't been here in years. The remodeling is great. (Insist on main dinning room). It was a Friday night and the food was very good. We started with escargot...great! We ordered blue gills and perch. Suppose to come with salads...when we asked about salad dressings we where told it's a group three salads...two Cole slaws and tuna noddle salad. Not my idea of salad. My wife had perch and I had the blue gills. Both lightly bread and very tasty. Baked potato was was very large and baked perfectly. Nice. Wait staff missed on a few things...had to ask for a number of things including water, tartar sauce, sour cream, butter. And she missed on our drink order, I ordered a bottle of wine and she brought one glass of wine. She seemed preoccupied with larger tables around us. Six of us went for the fish fry Friday yesterday. 4 of the party had the combo baked and beer battered one had the beer battered and I had the pan fried walleye. The sides 2 types of coleslaw Mac and tuna very tasty and plentiful. As described by my friends the baked cod was dry and somewhat over cooked, the beer battered was ok and the walleye tasteless and non descript. The potato pancakes where described as chewy and rubbery. I will say that other then walleye which looked like it had been put on a diet the other meals where more than abundant. Saturday prime rib special and it was excellent!!! I ordered it medium rare and it was a perfect medium rare. It was delivered with a crock of au jus. For my potato, I had the special crispy parmesan rosemary potatoes and they were great! My daughter had the Petite Filet done medium with a LOADED baked potato (which looked like LOADED heaven)!!! Both were great! My husband had the large filet done medium which had a nice char on the outside and he said was done to a perfect medium! It sure disappeared fast so he obv. loved it! The filets do come with sauteed mushrooms on the plate. The dinners also come with a basket of warm bread and the butter seemed exceptional! We have a state wide face mask mandate. The manager(even inside the building)our waitress and other staff were not wearing masks! My 19 year old son and myself were beyond disappointed. This continues to be my favorite place for a fish fry, but now with the new atmosphere i find myself taking clients and business associates there as well. To be honest there have been some growing pains but that is expected when you grow this fast. The Richfield area was craving for a higher end restaurant, and now they are pulling people in from all over the Milw. Metro area. I compare this place to some of the Bartolatta's restaurants around Milwaukee, except you actually get your potatoe and salad with your meal price instead of paying separate/alacarte. The complaints above about pricing I find laughable. This is not Chili's!!!! The prices are very comparable for a high end restaurant, but not all their wait staff is at that level yet and they dont realize what the difference is or what people expect at those types of restaurants. Fortunately i have been going there long enough that i know the good ones and ask for them by name. Thanks Nancy for accomadating my requests. I was there Friday night and they had a new guy walking the room asking about service and quality. I think this is a good move so they get a feel for areas they can improve with a little bit of training..... If you had a bad experience after the remodel, i strongly suggest you give them a second chance. I attribite any bad experiences to growing too fast. read more

I ate there tonight for the first time. No masks on almost all of the staff . The steak was very good but we were disappointed with the tiramisu . It was really thick and hard to spoon out. More the texture of a heavy cheesecake than tiramisu. Very little flavor, no cake or espresso to be found. We told our server that and she said sorry but did not take it off the bill. For being a restaurant in the middle of no where across the street from a biker bar the prices are extraordinarily high. Plus they removed their Friday fish fry. Annnnddddd... Johnny Manhattan's: Old-school, Wisco-tastic supper club meets suburban bar with a clientele to match. Dark wood, carpeting, a bar that could have very well been attended by a mustachioed gentleman in an old-timey get up, new country music blaring through the speakers... and? A stuffed (though fake) polar bear ended up presiding over our meal by way of its situation immediately to the left of our table. And... Don't look for a nuanced wine list or craft beer here, folks. It's all Leine's and Bud and Rolling Rock, if you're feeling fancy. (Stupid me... I should've ordered an old-fashioned as opposed to a Pabst given my context. Next time, if there is one... ) *Note: they did have a bevvy of dessert drinks, so points for that, if you're into that. But... Steak: they haz it, in spades. This place is absolutely and without equivocation, a house of steaks. Old-school, too. Soup/salad/choice of potato? That's standard with your order. And everything from bacon-wrapped tenderloin to ribeyes and surf and turf. (Sure... they've got tilapia and pasta and sandwiches, but seems steak is their game and their claim, so why mess with what's working for 'em?) I was: pleasantly surprised. My steak was cooked quite well. My soup/potato/salad? Those were all satisfactory if not a bit underwhelming, to be sure. A pricey-ish bill for a group of four, but hey! It's a steakhouse. (I guess, maybe, I'm used to the sleek and modern or curated ambiance and for its lack of that I wasn't ready for such a price tag. Let me preface this review by saying: I have NO IDEA where this place is. In fact, every single time I have gone to Johnny Manhattan's someone else has had to drive me there. But, that adds to it's appeal. This hidden gem can hold it's own with many of the fine steak places that Milwaukee has to offer. Although the steaks may not be quite as good as the really expensive places (Eddie Martini's, Mr. B's, Carnevor), they are still flavorful, tender and always cooked perfectly. Couple that with a price that cannot be beat and you've got a great meal. Unlike other steakhouses in the Milwaukee area, every steak you order comes with soup, salad and potato. Although it's out of the way, I will keep coming back for the great deals and awesome steaks. A few things to know: - Although not on the menu, Johnny Manhattan's does have a ribeye called 'The Cowboy'. It is fantastic. - For a few extra dollars you can upgrade the soup that comes with your dinner to baked french onion... it is well worth the up-charge! - Their pink squirrel ice cream drink is an amaretto and ice cream creation that is INCREDIBLE. This was our second visit to Johnny Manhattans, the first time since they opened the new dining room. The new room was really very nice and the service was good for a Thursday evening. We were very underwhelmed by the food and drink however particularly for the prices charged. Drinks (Bombay Martini and Vodka & tonic) were small servings and $$$$. I ordered the escargot appetizer. They did not skimp on the snails but they were very bland. I felt the same way about my NY Strip. Size and temperature were not a problem but taste was lacking. My wife's sea bass, shrimp and scallop special was the most disappointing. The sea bass was just ok but the rest was over cooked and like rubber. I almost didn't want to write a review of this little gem in fears that everyone will discover it! Hidden in the scenic town of Hubertus, the unassuming exterior could be missed if you blinked. It kinda has the look of an old white farm house. As I walked to the front door I smelled the most Delicious grill type of smell. I knew immediately this place was going to be a hit. Once inside, I was taken aback. It was like being transported back in time to a hybrid supper club / grandma's house. Dark, romantic and as inviting as it gets. This place was packed, the secret is obviously well know amongst the locals. The service was 5 stars, prompt, attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable. Now about the food. What can I say, the steaks are absolutely mouth watering delicious. They are perfectly done, huge in size, perfectly seasoned. This is one of those place that has me so torn. First time guest at Johnny Manhattan's and upon walking in to the establishment, you knew that it was going to be good. Saturday night reservations at 6pm were met on time. Our hostess's were prompt and very cordial. Seating was very adequate for our group of 9. Menu has an excellent choice of fish, beef and pork along with some other smaller dishes and picking a entree can be a bit difficult. My choice was a "top sirloin" with a baked potato, salad and soup. It proved to be a wise choice as it was excellent. First off, they come out with a fresh, and I mean fresh loaf of a white bread, hot and soft and oooohh so good with butter. Then they brought out a second loaf after we devoured the first one, want more, no problem. My salad was served with a side of peppercorn ranch dressing which is what I ordered. The salad had 3 types of lettuce, some cabbage. Want fresh ground pepper, no problem. My soup was a crab mushroom cream soup. Excellent, plenty of mushrooms and excellent taste. 12 oz. top sirloin steak ($18.95) arrived just as I ordered, medium rare, spiced to my taste and very juicy. A couple of gristle areas, but not bad. My "huge" baked potato came wrapped in aluminum foil to keep it hot. Butter and sour cream set on the side. My dinner was excellent. More than I could eat at one time, so I took it home. Take out tray was styro-type and adequate, but a aluminum type with the clear lid that you can secure would have been better. The Sara-Lee cheese cake type. They work so well. Only down side was that the noise level was high as it was packed and talking with someone not sitting right next to you was difficult. The only other negative was that it was probably 80+ inside the restaurant. I am guessing that they either did not have air conditioning set to go for the season, or they turned the furnace on due to the fact that it was raining outside. The bartender I believe was a bit over worked and our second round of drinks took 20 minutes to fill. Prices average $18 to $30 for a diner entree which is a bit higher than what I am used to, but you get what you pay (or my hosts) paid for. Wait staff was attentive and very quick. A refill of water was offered. Oh yeah, you should see their hamburgers.....huge and piled high !! Got to try one of those next time. read more

Was so disappointed in the food. I ordered the fish & chips, it was so over cooked, had to take the batter off the fish just to eat it. What was more disappointing was the waitress dii not even ask how it was. Maybe it was obvious with all the batter taken off the fish. The scallops that someone else ordered were bad, they were recommended by the waitress. When the meal only comes with 4, and you only eat 1 and 1/2 of them, that should be an indication, again the waitress did not ask how they were. Excellent service, ambiance, and food. We always look forward to dining at Johnny Manhattan's when we're in Wisconsin!

Overpriced food! Food was alright, nothing spectacular. Service wasn't good. Steak wasn't cooked the way I ordered. Not impressed and won't be going back. read more
