This is definitely a good place to go watch a game. There are plenty of TVs and beer on tap. The food however could use a lot of work! All of the fried appetizers we had ordered were fried for way too long! Our fried pickles were pretty much just paper thin batter. I ordered the chicken fried chicken and it was really salty. The mashed potatoes were really bland. I tried a piece of the flaming wings and that was the only edible thing of the night. So if you are coming to enjoy a game with friends, stick to the wings! read more

Johnny's Tavern has perfected the art of the suburban sports bar. Large flat screen tvs, small tvs for the booths, a good menu featuring a variety of burgers, sandwiches and other fried delicacies and ice cold big brewer beer (with some Boulevard thrown in of course.) This location features all of the above however its service is flighty. The servers are very nice and well intended, but they take their time. I've also had some small issues with receiving dirty appetizer dishes and wrong orders. Everything has been fixed quickly, but I sometimes I do wonder if the servers are paying attention or just running through the motions. Even with some of the service issues, this Johnny's is still a good place to come and cheer on your team. I just want to warn you in case the game finishes a little quicker than anticipated. read more

Typical sports bar atmosphere and food. Hamburgers were pretty good and lots of varieties - I think about 9 or 10 varieties. Beer was cold, so no complaints there. We also tried the wings and they were pretty good. Anyway, I've been to better sports bars for food but this place was close to the Embassy Suites and you can walk both ways in under 2 minutes. read more

Got the burger special. It was okay. A restaurant burger. It was expensive. They charge extra for sauces, so heads up. They did have bottled rootbeer and said they'd give me a pepsi refill if I wanted more. Plus 1 star for the solid root beer. The tater tots were decent. My dad got the chicken fingers with no fries. The bill was still like $25. I can't imagine ordering alcohol and actual full entrees. Pretty cool ambience. Some of the booths have tv's. Great excuse to sit there and not talk to someone. Or watch a game if you're into that kind of thing. There are better deals out there. The service was good. Average for the restaurant industry. read more

Cheese Whiz is king at Johnny's Tavern. You read that correctly, as a considerable number of their dishes use Cheese Whiz as an ingredient instead of, say, cheese. The beer is cold, the atmosphere is casual, and it's very clean. I've got no real criticism of their ascetics, as it's where I would want to hang out and watch a game. What this place also has going is that it's open late (past midnight). If you're here on business/from out of town, you may be surprised to find that most everything closes down by 9PM in this area. But where this place falls short (and in a big way) is the quality and freshness of the food. I can't wrap my head around why so many of their dishes advertise the use of Cheese Whiz. It's beyond bizarre. The fire wings where barely edible. They had no where near enough spice to be classified as hot, were dry - almost as if they'd been frozen and thawed in water and then dumped in the frier, and served with pre-packaged containers of blue cheese. None of the people in my group were impressed with their food either. Boring, bland, and over processed. read more

Went to this Johnny'y Tavern for the first time last night for the KU game. It was a full house for a Saturday night and KU and the parking was full but there was room in the bar to hold everyone comfortable without being too crowded. They have a very good selection of beers to pick from; craft and the standard go tos. The food was just okay. The wings and potato skins were nothing special but went well with the beer. The pork tenderloin sandwhich and buffalo sandwhich are worth getting. They come as a big sandwhich and will hold you over for awhile or you can bring some of it home. All round good bar to go to for a game with a group. read more

Such a disappointing experience. I love Johnny's and am a regular at most of the locations, including this one. I've always found them to have predictably good food and service in the past. I'm hoping it was an off night but boy what a spectacularly "off" experience it was. I ordered the fish & chips which is one of my Johnny's faves. As I was eating I noticed that one of the filets had clearly been in the fryer too long as it was very dark and solid as a hockey puck. As I am loathe to send back food and rarely finish my meal I didn't mention it. But I don't think it was coincidental that it was on the bottom underneath the two perfect filets. Just sloppy work on behalf of the kitchen & expediter. I also ordered a Patron silver, rocks, with a splash of triple sec & extra limes. Not a complicated drink and one I have often. The first one had too much triple sec and when I ordered the 2nd one I politely asked the server for less. The second one arrived with so much triple sec it was positively sticky and completely destroyed the flavor of the Patron. I tried to send it back and the server offered to simply bring me a shot of Patron to add to it. Fine. Until I was charged for a shot to improve an undrinkable drink. I pointed this out to her and she said she'd get the manager. What? A server who isn't empowered to correct a $5.75 ticket error? Ridiculous but whatever. The manager, David, who says he's a part-owner is who made an easily fixable situation completely awful. He positively reeked of stale cigarettes (I am allergic) to the point that I could barely have a conversation with him. He wanted to challenge me about what was wrong with the shot, seemingly unable to get it through his head that I wasn't complaining about the shot itself but that the shot was to fix the drink which I would have sent back. We went round and round over a $5.75 charge on an $80 ticket at a table of 8 people who'd spent collectively $250+. He finally took the shot off the bill but at what cost to a customer relationship? I am simply astounded at the entire occurrence. Simply astounded. read more

Johnny's Tavern added a new location over at K-10 and Ridgeview in Olathe. This is a happening spot due to good placement in suburbia, that has no surrounding competition. They have over 50 plasma tv's, an outdoor patio, and game room. A great place to watch your favorite sports teams. Mostly a KU bar though... They make great hand made pizza's. Even better are their spicy chicken wings, some of the best in the KC area. Not the best drink specials around, but a good clean and friendly environment to bring the gang to for some drinks and food. read more

Went with an entire soccer team of young boys, plus parents, on a tournament weekend. Seated immediately, even tho crowded, at six different tables, service was more than could be asked for, orders were spot on. Lots of TVs, outdoor patio, and the food was quite good, even if not above and beyond spirts bar fare. If you have a game at the fields, well worth a stop. read more

First, an FYI - while the address is correct, the location on Yelp's map isn't. It shows this place at the corner of College and Ridgeview when it's really at the intersection of K-10 and Ridgeview - the first place south of K-10, in the same complex as The Rub, Olathe Cleaners, Salty Iguana and Watson's/Family Leisure. This can make checking in on the Yelp app difficult, as it says the place is right around 1 mile away when you're actually sitting at the table with a beer. OK, so I have finally sat in the restaurant portion of this place. It has some things better than the bar, and some things not as great. On the better said - the TVs! I knew every booth (or most) had their own smaller TVs, but the selection, size and quality of the wall mounted TVs in the restaurant area is fantastic. On the worse side - service is soooooooo slowwwwww. It's friendly, but slow. After hearing other people say the same thing, I was kind of expected this, but it was still sooooooo slowwwww. I'll still come back here since it's along my commute and close to friends, but I will definitely stick to the bar for 95% of my visits. Oh, and the pretzels/cheese app is delicious. I have been to Johnny's about 4 times and tried something different each time. My favorite is the spicy chicken wings, second fave is the handmade pizza's. My daughter loves the burgers. I was here for Super Bowl and ona golden oldie bingo night which was alot of fun. Wait staff is better by the bar. Table service can lag and if you get a server who smokes you might not see them for awhile. Hit this place on wing special nights it is like half price and gorge out. Since I am rating it compared to other sports bars it gets a 4 star and that is only because the wait staff can improve alot. Heading there tonight with some friends. Enjoy. read more

I've been to one other Johnny's near Shawnee Mission Parkway recently. That experience was a little better, as they had half-priced appetizers, and the food seemed a little more tasty. This Johnny's reported happy hour was only drinks, and little things like the espinaca dip not being very hot, and things like this took away from the experience. All around, Johnny's is a fun bar & grill experience, and a good atmosphere. read more

I will say that this is not my least favorite Johnny's location, that would be the one on 135th. But this one is runner up for sure. It's off of K-10 and I would never really head out this way if my friends didn't live close to here. That being said, it does good business since it's one of the only bars in the area. The staff is somewhat friendly, but you can tell the difference in the way you're treated if you're a regular or not. The setup is so so, I large bar, but the TV's are pretty far away. There is a game room, a main dining area, and a private area in the back. Most of Johnny's locations are in suburbia outside of Lawrence and P&L. Not a bad place to have a drink and grab average bar fare, but probably not a destination place if you have other choices. read more

I love Johnny's food! I've been to about 3 of them and this was my first time at this location and it was extremely busy, but I wasn't impressed with our waitress at all. It seems like our whole group had to ask for what ever we needed. (I personally think that a good waitress should ask us if we need anything) A person in my group had the pretzel and they seem to enjoy it. I had the sampler and everything was fried so it was obviously good. :D read more

Eh, this Johnny's was my neighborhood sports bar for a few years. Had so many up & down experiences I don't know where to begin. Always a lively spot when KU is playing football or basketball. Service is BIG-TIME inconsistent! We have had some great food here and some not-so great food at this particular Johnny's. I swear my bill increases every time I visit Johnny's. Johnny's has some very underrated pizza. I've been lucky to receive consistently good pizza that rivals most places in Kansas City. Burgers are of the frozen variety but have been tolerable on most visits. I like their french fries when served hot and crispy. Plenty of appetizers at decent prices. We used to love their chicken strips but they have been inconsistent as of late. I still enjoy the Lawrence locations the most. P&L location can be a zoo at times, but not a bad spot during the downtimes at P&L. Again, huge fan of Johnny's Tavern. 3 star rating based on this location alone over the span of 5 years. There have been 5 star visits here as well as 2 star visits. Therefore, I guess that averages out to a 3 star? read more

Went in for a few beers while watching the game. Waitress was very attentive, glasses were clean, beer was cold. We were just there for drinks...we didn't have any food. Used to love this place but now with the soccer fields built it's like Chucky Cheese. Kids yelling, singing and being loud especially when playing the games. This is a sports bar and I don't mind kids, but wished there was a separate area for them to enjoy what they want to do that is away from the bar area for those adults wanting to enjoy watch sports games. Went in for lunch this week and asked for the gluten free menu. It's really small, but I was able to find a salad that sounded good. I give them props for being a bar that has a GF menu. Service was just OK. Close to work and home so I'll definitely go back. read more

If you want to watch a game in a great car atmosphere with polite staff and excellent food then look no further! It's a real treat every time I get to go to the Tavern! Burgers are great and will fill you up. My go to is the double dipped flaming wings. Not as spicy as you may think and very crisp. read more

My co-worker and I quickly swung over here to watch one of the world cup games which worked out perfectly because there were only a few people in the bar area. We were able to quickly find a nice spot to sit and view the game which was what we were hoping for. The bartender even turned the volume on the for the game. She was also quick to get our food and beverages. The wings were good, fries were on point, and the blue cheese dip was just the right amount of blue cheese. Overall, pretty pleased with our last minute stop to check them out for the first time. read more

A networking group I'm in meets here once a month, and I have to say that I'm always impressed. The food is good and fresh (my favorite is the apple walnut salad) and the wait staff is always kind and courteous. In addition, the facility is always very clean. They have a great selection of beers, if you're more of a beer person (which I am, but not during the networking meetings ~ though it might make it a bit more interesting!). read more

Johnny's Tavern has been one of my favorite go to places for a couple of years. One of my menu favorites is the Crispy Cauliflower and Brussels. The first order came out brown and mushy, the cauliflower was the color of old, used fryer oil. I told the server and he offered to bring me another order. The second order came out marginally better. It was not as dark in color, nor as mushy, but it was far from the crispy favorite that I have enjoyed numerous times. At this point the manager on duty came out and apologized. She asked if I could go into detail as to what was wrong with the dish so that she could educate the kitchen staff. She asked if I would like something different so I ordered the street tacos. By the time the tacos came out my boyfriend had finished his meal, eating by himself, and I ate my meal by myself as well. When the check was delivered the manager had done nothing for us. She took the Crispy Cauliflower and Brussels off the check but did not even comp a beverage for us. Needless to say we did not enjoy our date night! We dined at the location off of Ridgeview Road in Olathe on Friday, May 7th. I am disappointed in Johnny's Tavern and will think twice before I return. Update 6/4/21. Johnny's Tavern sent me a gift card and hopefully my next visit will make up for my last visit.
