Rarely eat out, have only been to Johnny's two or three times. Yesterday got the fish n chips and they were excellent. Not too much breading on fish, and the hush puppies were an unexpected treat! Just leaving here after a couple of regulars came up and jumped my friend and started punching him for nothing. The ridiculous thing is the staff never called the police. They told the guys to leave. What kind of establishment doesn't call the police when one of their patrons is attacked with no provocation? We had to call the police ourselves. Not a safe place. read more

I am biased as a former employee but the truth is the truth. Best sports bar and grills in KC and Lawrence! All the food is good and mostly consistent. Best wings in town, awesome burgers and my son loves the NACHOS! Service 4 stars Food 2 stars so I split the difference to 3 for overall. Prices were reasonable so no complaints there. The service was consistently quick and the food wait time was very good also. I'll give the server credit for knowing her menu. I asked if the pork tenderloin was fresh, she said no, frozen. So I asked if the burger was fresh, no it was frozen. All I wanted was a fresh item so she suggested the chicken. I should have taken her suggestion. My wife had the double fried chicken wings and they were just as advertised double fried. This has become one of my boyfriend and my go-to's. He loves the traditional bar food (pizza, burgers and beer) and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their salads. I don't know that we've ever had something we didn't like. There are tv's everywhere if you want to catch a game and the service decent if not regularly good. I just don't get it. Sat down. Watched a table of 12 get seated after us. Waited ONE HOUR to get our street tacos and a hamburger. Watched that table of 12 get all of their drinks (including alcohol) and all of their food a good ten minutes before we did. entirely frustrating and soooooo not worth the trouble. DW and I stopped here on a Saturday afternoon. It was around 2pm and the restaurant wasn't very busy. The server told us to pick any table. The decor is your typical sports bar with lots of TVs for all the games on. Our waitress stopped by to take our drink orders pretty quickly and we perused the menu to see what looked good. They had a wide variety, but we stuck with the basics. A bacon cheeseburger for the DW and I had the buffalo chicken sandwich. We ordered some onion ring as an appetizer. The rings came out quickly and were a good sized portion. Don't know if they were home made or frozen, but they were good. We were about half way through the rings when our food came out. The DW burger was a little too pink for her and the waitress took it back to have it cooked more. My buffalo chicken sandwich was spicy, just the way I like it. The fries were fresh made and very nice. The DW's burger came back out and was cooked enough for her. Service was very good and the food was pretty good. We'll be back again to Johnny's. read more

Really like this place. ...it has a great neighborhood bar feel. We've had a lot of get togethers after work and the service has always been great. The bar is large enough to accommodate big groups. Johnny's is a great sports bar and grill with a wonderful happy hour and cheap food and drinks. The bartenders are always friendly and provide great service, and the food is good if you are judging it for what it is. They serve cheap bar food, nothing extremely creative and I assume very little made from scratch, but it is always prepared well, served hot and wont put too much of a dent in your wallet. Great burgers, excellent pizza, nachos, wings and quesadillas. I usually stop in at happy hour where they have 1/2 price appetizers and super cheep beer specials, they also have a variety of daily food and drink specials and sometimes they are crazy cheep. The place itself has a very casual, laid back kind of feel to it, which works well for me because I am a pretty laid back kind of a person. Loads of TVs on the walls all tuned to sports, a golden tee, shuffleboard, pool table and a few other arcade games in the back make this a really fun place to grab some drinks and hang out with friends. Service in the bar area is always great, service in the dinning room is a little bit of a crapshoot but I find this to be true with most restaurants. Normally, I don't write bad a review but I think this warrants one and hopefully today's service was a fluke. It's taco Tuesday and I ordered a couple of chicken tacos. I ate the first taco and realize it was beef. I was with friends and didn't pay attention util half the taco was eaten. I asked them if they heard me order chicken and yes they did. I finished the first taco and ask the waitress if I could switch the uneaten beef taco for chicken. A couple of minutes later, a another gal stopped by (I assumed the manager) to tell me NOT to bite into the 2nd taco b/c they will HAVE to charge me. Interesting management and customer service skill. I sat patiently for the chicken and didn't complain about how long it I had been waiting. Finally another person other than my waitress and manager stopped and said "your chicken taco has not come out?". By this time my friends already finished their tacos. A few minutes later the waitress came by to tell me the taco should come out soon b/c they had a large group came in and need to get their orders out. At this point, I didn't even want the taco. 20 mins for $1 taco that was not my error... WOW, customer service is not their strength today. read more

I have ate here a few times due to the location's convenience, I however will not be going back. After ordering "Johnny's Tacos" I am appalled at the complete dereliction of duty that has and is recurring throughout this establishment. My so called grilled chicken was nothing more than shredded chicken cartilage, while my co-workers steak fajita meat which he requested to be cooked well done was bleeding out his taco. This place is a disgrace to the original Johnny's Tavern in Lawrence, KS and if you're in the area I suggest to pass this place up. read more
