We enjoyed our lunch before our whale watching trip so much we came back after for a 2nd visit after. My thoughts on the different items we ordered today: Footlong hotdog: it's just a good, unusually long hotdog. Nothing too fancy here IMO but I can appreciate the option for a non-seafood meal that's under $10. Fried clam strips: SO GOOD. Love how crispy they are. Fish sandwich: Actually really like that this is a simple sandwich. The fish tasted fresh, and wasn't overly breaded or fried. Lobster roll: one of the best rolls I've had. It's on the smaller side but they really do pack on the lobster meat. Good toasty bun. Tuna salad roll: comes on the same type bun as the lobster roll. Tasted great. Tips: There's nice outdoor seating upstairs, but there's only a handful of tables. Cash only. read more

I've always ignored this place but am glad I tried it out. I assumed it was a usual seafood shack facing the street with no seating but they have a sorta hidden upstairs deck area with seating. The upstairs seating has a lot of umbrellas for shade and a cool garbage chute so you don't have to carry your garbage downstairs. We got a lobster roll with nice sized chunks (lightly mayo-ed), also some guilty pleasure cheese fries (with that atomic orange cheese sauce), a footlong chili dog, and homemade iced teas. We were in search of the best lobster roll in town. Love Canteens and was directed to John's Footlong. The local ladies who work here are so nice. The friendly vibe was most welcomed. I asked if the lobster meat was fresh or frozen. I was assured it was fresh. We ordered it undressed. The portion size was ample but the meat was spongy and a bit wet indicating it was most likely frozen. The meat also lacked flavor. Pass on John's for lobster roll. On the advice of the locals, I wanted to stop here and try a lobster roll. Enjoyed it so much I drug the wife back again the next day to get another. She had a garden burger the first time and enjoyed it so much she ordered it again. Both times we ordered onion rings. Hands down, the best onion rings I have ever had in my life. This is your standard end of the wharf hot dog stand/fried seafood place. Nothing stood out here. You've been to one of these places, you have been to them all. There is a deck on top of the place for you to sit at and eat, and it is right in Lopes square, so you are right in the middle of every thing and it is easy to catch the ferry. So why did they only get 2 stars, you may ask? Well the hot dog wasn't really hot all the way through, and frankly it wasn't that great. Also, if you are going to name your place with a menu item in the name, that item should be done right. Why would you put a footlong hot dog on a regular bun instead of footlong bun? That is silly! It leaves half of the hot dog hanging out naked without condiments, and I gotz ta have my condiments! I love me some comdiments, some hot dogs are just the delivery vehicle for my condiments! Extra bonus points taken off because the crazy old lady working the counter gave my hot dog to another customer, and right as he was about to take a bite of it (without condiments I might add, what a fool!), she yanks it out of his hand and hands it to me... Clam chowder = very disappointing. Especially since it was my 2nd cup of the day and the first was a really good one at Lobster Pot. This one tasted bland and out of a can. Lobster roll = pretty good. I have to say the buttered bread roll is AWESOME. The lobster meat is encased in a large crisp lettuce leaf which was really good. My bf and I disagreed on the actual lobster meat. He thought it was too fishy tasting but I didn't think so. I enjoyed this roll. I have been going to Jonny's Footlong for years now. I go to either Jonny's or Mojo's. They each have equally good fried seafood. One big bonus is that Jonny's has a cool roof deck upstairs and its a great place to escape the crowds and eat and a great view of the harbor too!! Check out the trash chute!! Its fun! read more

Always as expected. Always as I remember. Hasn't changed since I was a little kid! Old time Portuguese family owned. Ordered a foot long dog and an onion ring. The roll is always toasted perfectly. Onion rings were very good. Price was $3.75 for the dog. Can't beat that in Ptown! They serve kale soup and linguisa and many other Portuguese favorites, along with lobster rolls and clams and so much more. this review is for the clam chowder which lists the ingredients on the sign but when you get it it obviously has a lot more than just clams butter salt and onion. It's served in a gloppy "broth" that obviously is made from flour and I think it tasted like chicken broth. read more

My family and I stopped by this place to try out their fried clam strips. They were extremely crispy but I personally thought they were okay and a bit too fried. I couldn't really taste the clam strips because of how fried it was. But the staffs were extremely patient and great despite the current situation. I wish i would have tried the fried whole belly clams, but we ordered the chili cheese dog and fried dough instead once stepping up to the window the smell of fried dough was something we couldn't resist. It was shortly after we had dinner. Halfway through eating my fried dough i realized there was powdered sugar, and container of cinnamon and sugar i could have sprinkled on. The condiments are set way in the left corner of the Windows so if you are ordering from one if the other windows they are easily hidden from view mostly if it's just and lots of people in line at the other windows. Eh, not so much. The whole experience somehow reminded me of being in a school cafeteria, which is odd since this is an outside establishment. The little old lady, while charming in her own special way, shuffled patrons through the ordering process like only a school lunch lady can. And, as if that wasn't enough, I ordered a cheeseburger that tasted like...wait for it...a school cafeteria burger. Typically, at a fast food stand like this, you get enormous portions with so-so quality. However, the fried clam strips that I had were incredible. I ordered the fried clam strip roll and when the nice lady presented me with a box with a heaping pile of clam strips that completely hid the hit dog roll underneath, I had thought there was some kind of mistake. I happily took my box of happiness to the upstairs seating area and ate until I could not move. My girlfriend had the lobster roll and although I cannot attest to how good it was, she finished the whole thing without offering me any. My pops has been taking us to John's since I was 5. Such good food and I love the people that work there. I remember when some of the ladies use to work at Silva's, which I miss big time. John's Fish sandwich is so good and huge, that is always my go to item. The Portuguese rice is so yummy, as is their onion rings. I haven't been to enough places to know if this is actually true, but John's did not disappoint. The women behind the counter were friendly as they took my order, and despite it being a fairly busy night, I only had to wait around 5-10 minutes for my food. The aforementioned lobster roll was excellent, and my side of onion rings were fried to perfection. If you're looking for quick fried food that's fairly priced, this place is certainly worth a look. The fried clams were expensive, but from what I saw, the portions were big, and burgers and dogs were cheap at around $4 for a burger, $3 for a regular dog, and $4 for footlong, all great prices in my book. We ate here right before heading out on a whale watch, normally that would sound like a terrible idea considering your about to stuff your gills (no pun intended...actually that isn't even a pun b/c whales don't have gills) with a bunch of fried food, but that didn't even cross any of my friends minds for a second. First off, this probably has the longest line for seafood in the main drag of P-town, so expectations are already running a little bit higher if you are willing to wait in the line. The food is pretty decent, and I would say worth the wait. I found the frying to be spot on and left everything very crisp and not soggy. Each member of my group got something different including fries, onion rings, clam strips, scallop roll, and chowder. It all tasted great.
