The drive thru line is usually long and time consuming, but they make really good food

Burger was pretty darn good, I'd give it a 7.9. I love old burger diners like this. But one of the most important things a burger joint must have is french fries. Though they use a proper double fry technique, they are underdone and soggy. Silly thing is they have a guy dedicated to the fryers and I watched him with his routine which would have been solid except either the temp on the 2nd fry is too low or it's not being fried long enough. I think a little bit of both. And he was very consistent in cooking the fries this way, they all came out a pasty yellow color with no crisp. One of the best burgers in the area only to be ruined by some of the worst fries I've had since In N Out. read more

Should have updated this a long time ago. The food is fresh. Sometimes service can be lacking, but they try. Lots of staff turnover. Noticed one of the guys behind the counter not wearing a mask over his face, but on his chin. Everyone else is! I guess he thinks he's special. Soups, fries, burgers, etc, all good. Had a horrible experience. I ordered a gyro and found a hair inside of it. I went to complained to the Asian man who was either a manager or owner. He got very belligerent and told me that it was bit from them. He became very threatening. I couldn't believe what was happening. I've been coming here for five years. This was absolutely deplorable. It's been a while since I've been to John's because the first time I tried it the food was good but it was too much. Too expensive? No. Too much food to eat! Who complains about that? So we ordered takeout recently for a quick dinner at home. I got the gyro meal with onion rings. It came with a vegetable medley side, which I thought was weird for a gyro, but I dug in and "Oh my God." That's what I said because the simple medley of carrots broccoli and beans was so good. That garnered the 5 stars right there. My spouse got a tuna salad sandwich. He scraped off half the portion, it was so much. That's not a bad thing, especially for takeout. I work in Long Beach during the week, near the airport, and so once every few months I will forget my past experience and goto Johns Burger for lunch or dinner thinking maybe this time it'll be different. To be fair they do have some good food but I am always left underwhelmed. Today I got a grilled ham and cheese... it was technically a grilled ham and cheese with a half inch slab of ham between to pieces of bread but it doesn't taste very good, and it looks like they put the minimal effort possible into preparing it. Last time I got a breakfast burrito and it was completely saturated in grease.... it was like a grease breakfast burrito. I feel like their menu is too big. A fast food joint that serves breakfast all day, sandwiches, burgers, salads, burritos and tacos as well as things like beef stew, pot roast, steak, tri tip, meat loaf, spaghetti, lasagna... it's too much. With such a large menu everything just tastes ok.... I've had at least a dozen different items on menu and have never been blown away by anything.... it's always just a mild state of disappointment with the quality of the food. They do try to make up for this with massive portions. But I'd rather have a smaller portion of well prepared food. I don't know, I always end up regretting the decision to go here. Horrible service! I was there today (9/30/24) at 5:35pm and the older male worker that's in his 50's - working inside was a jerk. I was the only customer in line and he did not greet me or acknowledge while I'm in front the register until he picked up 3 phone orders that were 1-2 minutes apart from each other. I walked away and informed him that I didn't appreciate how he handled customers especially when it's only one customer inside ordering food. He shrugged his shoulders as if my money doesn't matter. John Jr. need attitude adjustment. If he doesn't like working there maybe he should go out in the job market and find a new job. Then he will appreciate what he has. Barking out out the order numbers and has no customer service. Some of his clients are older side and can't hear very well or just enjoying their friends company and talking amongst themselves. I normally go to John's often and I am always satisfied with the service. However today I walked in and asked if they were still serving their oatmeal. The girl behind the register looked at me like I offended her because I asked if they still had oatmeal. She said no and walked away from me. She didn't have to explain why they didn't have oatmeal anymore. But you don't walk away from a customer when they're asking you a question. What if I wanted to order something else? I couldn't because the lady walked away from me. I really like going to John's but maybe I'll have to stop going because I hate bad customer service. read more

We have been eating at this restaurant for about 15 years and LOVE everything we have tried. We mostly eat the burgers and fries, but have had the gyro, chicken strips, and bread pudding. The owner and staff are kind and we will continue to patronize this place as long as they are in business. 9.26.24 around 4pm My mom and I went to here to grab a quick bite after getting out of the ER. We went through the drive thru and our food did not come with ketchup so when we asked for some the girl at the drive thru with an attitude flopped her hand with ketchup to my mom. My mom checked the bag for ranch for my salad said there was none so I checked the bag and didn't see a ranch. My mom asked for ranch and the girl said "there is ranch" . My mom said no there isn't we just checked do you want to check the bag? SHE TOOK OUR BAG OF FOOD BACK TO CHECK IT LIKE WE WERE LYING ABOUT RANCH. When we got the bag back my salad was now open and she said "there's ranch in there" while we drove away my mom said to me "there was no ranch in there" to which the girl in the drive thru shouted out of the window "WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY" with theeee upmost attitude. We then called the restaurant and the owner Steve answered and responded saying "we already heard you cussed at her " (my mom didn't cuss I was right there watching this all go down). Someone named Steve claiming to be the owner then hung up on my mom. My parents go here at least once a week and have met and talked to the owner before and both said how nice of a man he is ...... from my point of view HE . IS. NOT. I have eaten here a few times and the service is usually good the food is average to below-average at best. Today we ordered a cheeseburger, club sandwich, fries and zucchini and everything was blah. Do they not know how to season their food? The cheeseburger had zero seasoning and tasted like a dirty grill. The club sandwich wasn't much better with the rubbery bacon and flavor less turkey. I swear this place is never open. Their salads are amazing, so if you happen to catch them on a night they say they're open and they're actually open, then highly recommend. They're hefty and delicious. But if you're gonna seek them out cause it's a random Tuesday and you happen to be coming back from LA and have been craving the Santa Fe for three months and the stars have somehow aligned? So I'm sitting here waiting for my order. I waited in a long line, and when I was one car away from the window, someone comes out and tells me she's sorry but they're out of what I ordered. She then stood there expecting me to make an instant on-the-spot decision of what else I would like. I told her I would let them know at the window. I ordered at the window. When the owner/manager came up to the girl, she told him I wanted to change my order - not that I was told at the last minute that they were out of what I ordered; she omitted the fact that she made a mistake. Then, after paying, she tells me to pull up and they will bring my food out when it's done. I looked at her and said, It just gets better and better." Just went to John's and will never go back! I'm used to the one in cypress and thought everything would be the same. Boy was I wrong. The girl working the cash register was the rudest person I have ever come across. I asked her a few questions about the menu and she acted completely annoyed. When my food came it was all wrong and when we asked her to correct the order, she rolled her eyes and gave us attitude. We ended up getting our money back and leaving the food there. John's food is delicious--- they have a wide variety of items that are made at the restaurant so the food has great quality and is uniquely theirs. For example, their bread's Parmesan crust is generous and flavorful and their homemade biscuits are substantial in size and taste along with the creamiest real country gravy you could want. Their French fries, in the morning, are the mythical kind you remember from when you were a kid--- clean, crisp and slightly salty--- no mushy, standing in a container under a heat lamp type, but the kind that makes you remember what a fry should be like. All of their food has the "we make it here" feel to it. I go to John's once a week and I have to give a shout out to the woman who works the drive-thru --- Victoria. I sure hope her boss knows what a gem she is. Courteous, friendly and thoughtful--- she gives John's food experience a lasting positive impression. I mean, it's always busy in that line but she makes you feel like you and your order really matter and that she cares to get it right. Quality of CheeseBurger was sadly disappointing. In the past their burger was great BUT a huge failure this time. The hamburger roll was obviously OLD and Cold and Stale, Like it was left out for hours or whole day. I ordered a Cheeseburger with only Onion & Pickles. The burger was Under Cooked. There were No Onions and 3 small pickles, leaving it dry and tasteless. Thelma and Louise, my two doggies, did like the meat paddy but left everything else. Went there for breakfast and just as we sat down to eat our food, the valance holding the window blind fell down almost hitting us. The manager and a couple of workers immediately came over to fix the problem and were climbing over us and our food before we had a chance to exit the booth. They had absolutely no regard for us or if we were ok, only focusing on the broken blind. Been wanting to try johns because I just started working in the area! So I finally decided to step in today 9/28 at 3:3Opm. I get to the drive thru and it's my turn to order. I asked for a western bacon cheeseburger and asked what comes on it. She explained and I asked can she make it a combo and her reply was " IF I WANTED A COMBO" really rude like Im bothering her smh! I didn't know how to rate this considering I've been eating here for years. Salads and fried zucchini mostly. And they are always delicious. But.../. I decided to venture out and get the tortilla soup. First bite in, a red chili pepper!!!!!! The soup looks like a big brown bowl of slop- would never even know if it was a pepper or a tortilla or whatever. Well, I immediately ran to the sink the let the water run over my tongue.
