A little nice Mediterranean spot in an area filled with lots of Asian foods is always a nice change for your palette. I was able to grab the 2 for $20 special they had during covid but I hear that deal is gone now. The food is good, it's fresh, and tasty. I got the chicken and the kafta plate. The portions are huge which I always appreciate because I love turning having leftovers for another meal. Customer service was ok, I felt a little uncomfortable when I entered this establishment but the food is decent and I have no complaints. This is such a small Stand alone establishment that you miss it if you just drove by. This little lot is surrounded by 3 streets; it's like in the center of a triangle if you get what I mean? I ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich which was basically few pieces of the chicken and a little garlic sauce wrapped in a small pita. My order came with two, each similar in size to a taquito, only slightly bigger. The chicken was tender and not dry, but a little on the bland side. This place is delicious and has good portions. My favorites are the beef skewer, Greek salad, garlic dip, chicken shawarma. They give you a lot of rice if you get a plate so I usually get a la carte. Hummus is good, but better if you add garlic dip and mix. French fries are not worth getting but everything else here has been good. read more

I had a group of people that wanted to eat Greek food, so we decided to do a catering order. The value is really great. We ordered 26 skewers which had a combination of beef, chicken, kafka. It also came a salad, rice, hummus, garlic sauce, and plenty of pita. The beef skewers were good, but a bit chewy. The chicken and kakfa were great flavors. Well, we've loved this place for years and gave them a solid at minimum 400.00 a year. It's finally come to an end. Prices have gotten too expensive for what you get now. The chicken kabobs have gotten so small, and the meat is either fatty or hard for more money. OWNER, please go back to the original portion when you charge more. This was our go-to place, not to mention what our job spends ordering from you. When you do this, you also pay more for your own bills when people stop spending money with you. First time ordering here because I was really craving for Kafta Kabobs and legit Greek salad lately. Called to order for pick up which was fast. This review is made only for the 2 Beef Kafta Kabobs that came with the order. 1. When I picked but my food and got home, the styrofoam container was so flimsy that it folded in half and spilled most of my rice and Beef Kafta inside the plastic bag upon transport and some rice on my carpet. 2. Rice pilaf was delicious however their idea of Kafta kabob is very tiny, thin, over cooked and very dry to eat. Same price as what I pay at the mall but half the size. It should not look that dark or over cooked. 3. Garlic sauce was delicious 4. Salad - their idea of Greek salad is very, very lazy. I never see lettuce on Greek salads nor a sauce other than diced cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, parsley, olive oil and lemon... I guess what they have is fusion lol 5. For the mall price their charge, at least have the decency to put a whole small grilled tomato... their only put 1/8th or even smaller of the whole tomato size. Quite sad looking. Very very shy portion. Leaves customer with a bad taste and impression. 6. Onion slices are very thin and almost as if they're incognito lol 7. Inside the store however is very clean. 8. Pita slices are normal and texture is soft. Overall, next time, if I am craving for Mediterranean food, even if their are so close to me, I will just drive 4 miles to the mall to get it there. Same price but more portions, sturdier to go boxes, whole portion of tomato, fresh, juicy and enough portion of meat for the same price and legit Greek salad diced, sliced and all. Overall It may not be the best Mediterranean food you've had, but it definitely is nice to have this option. In the area and got a craving for kabobs? You've got an option right here that's not too bad. Service You order at the counter and wait for your food to be prepared. Service is OK. The food is ready at a decent amount of time. The service can definitely work on becoming more welcoming and enthusiastic about greeting guests. They can also work on making sure the food is prepared faster, but I'm absolutely not holding this against them. We have no idea what happens behind the scenes. Food The portion size itself at this establishment is smaller compared to their other Mediterranean counterparts in Los Angeles. The meat itself is a bit too dry and chewy. Again, not the best food, but it gets the job done, especially if you're in a time crunch and not able to travel for better quality food. I called in wanting to place my order only to find out it would only be falafel with 2 sides which did not included baba ganoush as an option and it did not have a tabouleh. 1 of 2 of my orders were wrong. But wrong item they gave me was $1 more so not going to complain too much in exchange. Greek Salad & dressing was very genericnand something you totally make home, store brought. Chicken was dry and ok. Beef kabob was good but kafta was better flavored and moist even though it's leaner meat which i do prefer. Rice was different than other places I've tried. Not bad but not the best. Meat portion in general can be better. Not sure if its due to covid for the cut down in that but could be a little better. Tziziki is ok, lacked flavor & spices. For the hummus, if you prefer blander flavor and thicker texture then this is for you. I prefer it more garlicky. Pita were soft and fluffy though. This is my 1st visit to the John's kebab cafe in Monterey Park, Monterey Park is known for its Chinese Foods, (fact: there are more Chinese restaurants in Monterey Park than in the original China town) but not Mediterranean foods, therefore I was intrigued to give it a try. My Coworkers brought me here and they were recommending Chicken kebab... As a first timer, I wanna try their beefs kebab, since beefs are more forgiving than chicken, Chicken's white meats are tough to begin with and can easily go south once overcooked. So I ordered their beefs kebab instead, it was perfectly cooked with tenderness outside and medium rare to the center, seasoning and spices were very original and flavorful. I have selected rice and pita breads for my sides, maybe coz they are right in the middle of the Chinese community? Their rice were perfectly made, almost as good as any Chinese restaurant in the area! I am starting to wonder maybe they have hired a Chinese chef to prep the rice... I was craving Mediterranean food and found John Kabob on Yelp. Gyro sandwich was okay, meat is soft and tender. The portion was enough if you aren't that hungry. I can actually finish 2 Gyros. Fries could be better. The plate was tasty a bit chewy but nonetheless it was a good. I've tried other Mediterranean resto and they do serve salad, rice, hummus, and pita bread when you order a plate. Over here you get to choose only 2 sides. I was so impressed with my meal at Johns Kabob. I have been told by numerous people to check it out, but I never found my way over until today. First off, I think the outside is so adorable, I love the way the building has some nice shrubs and the rest just looks like a cute house. There is really only one parking spot in the lot, but there is plenty of street parking to look for. The inside is nice as well, but it felt a little stuffy. I opted to eat outside because it was a gorgeous day, and I loved that there was a small patio with tables and chairs for me to chow down my food. It appears that most of the staff behind the register are young kids. I have read reviews that a lot of people felt like the staff had attitude, I disagree. It looked like the employees just had work to do. I felt they were perfectly appropriate and helpful with my order. Now for the food, I ordered a chicken kabob plate with rice and hummus. I love that you can choose from the various sides offered. I know the kabobs are cooked to order, so I was expecting a wait, but I feel like it went quickly. My food was delicious. I loved the flavor of my chicken, I thought the hummus had a great texture, and my rice was scrumptious. I came here during lunch I would have to say it's not a bad Mediterranean Restaurant, but I wouldn't say it's great. I ordered a combo with a chicken and beef kebab with a side of fries and rice. By default, the plate comes with Pita bread so I probably should have gotten hummus instead of French fries. For the food itself, it's good but not great, here's why. Usually the flavors of Mediterranean are different than just sweet or salty, the flavors are unique and for me, hard to describe. The chicken kebab was good, it had a nice lemon zest to it along which went well with the grilled peppers. The beef kebab I got was okay, it tasted like grilled steak without salt or any spices. It just tasted like grilled steak. When I order French fries from a Mediterranean place, I expected something special, like some Mediterranean spices on top, but instead I got a basket of French fries that looks no different from McDonald's. The service here is good, the food comes out pretty slow so I wouldn't come here if you're in a rush, perhaps call ahead. There is only one parking spot and one handicap parking spot, it's all street parking. If I can recall, it was street sweeping Thursday. Hot fries...lovely cuts of gyro....a fluffy pita to make a yummy late supper...i thought about two hours to closing, so theyll have to make my fries fresh and my wrap will be just as if I ordered it at noon rather than at 7:30 pm ....so extremely disappointed to get cold hard dry fries...and shards of gyro on a broken pita.
