    Scallion oil noodles
    Tiffany T.

Nandao Rice and Noodle is a solid, casual spot in Monterey Park for a quick and satisfying meal, especially if you're craving Hainan chicken and other Southeast Asian comfort foods. Service was efficient, and our food came out quickly. We ordered the Hainan chicken, scallion oil noodles, and kaya butter toast to share. The Hainan chicken was delicious, tender and flavorful, and I appreciated that it came with soup on the side. The soup was light and had a refreshing taste of vegetables, chicken, and a mild coconut flavor. My only wish is that we had the option to choose between light and dark meat. The scallion oil noodles were the only item that didn't quite hit the mark for me. The dish leaned a bit too sweet, and the chili oil flavor was more prominent over the scallion oil flavor, overpowering the simplicity of the noodles. The kaya butter toast was the best I've had compared to other Malaysian restaurants and was generously stuffed with pandan kaya jam and thick slices of butter, creating that perfect balance of creamy, sweet, and savory flavors. It's definitely worth ordering, whether as a dessert or a snack alongside your meal.

I visited on a Saturday, not too long after opening, and although I join the Yelp waitlist, I didn't need to. Right off the bat we were seated quickly with our choice of table, and there was already a picture of room temperature water sitting at the table with cups readily available for drinking. What I noticed right away was that the service and attentiveness of the staff was a higher caliber than your typical Chinese restaurant. What we ordered: 1) Hainan Chicken - This dish was quite yummy and came with soup! I enjoyed the presentation! It came with 3 sauces although the red sauce was a very simple sweet chili sauce that you would expect from the grocery store. The chicken was prepared well and the rice was very flavorful. Overall, I felt the quality was pretty good. It felt like it was made with care. 2) Soy Braised Chicken - My daughter had this and really enjoyed it. I sampled it and it was delish. She can sometimes be a bit picky but she gobbled most of this dish. It also came with the same 3 sauces that were provided with the Hainan dish. Can't get enough of that ginger scallion sauce but the portion of the chicken was a bit small for me but perfect for my child. 3) Malaysian Chicken Curry - This was also quite enjoyable and the curry sauce was very flavorful. Of all the items we ordered, I think this is the one with the best value. My brother ordered this and he has a very big appetite and this seemed to satisfy his appetite. 4) Charcoal Tofu - This is the piece de resistance because it is so beautiful but off putting at the same time because it is black, but I really enjoyed this (much like most reviews). It was beautifully presented and came with the same sweet chili sauce. This is a great appetizer. My dad was so hesitant to try it, but after I forced him, he actually enjoyed it. 5) Cucumbers in Vinaigrette - This was our lease favorite since there was nothing that special about it and it didn't look appetizing. My daughter loves cucumbers and didn't care too much for this. 6) Braised Beef Shank Noodle Soup - This was beautifully presented but the flavor was quite mild. The portion of the beef shank was generous but it was our least favorite of the entrees. 7) Passionfruit Sparkling Soda - This was refreshing and had passionfruit seeds, but not sure if they used a syrup? Not sure I would get it again but it wasn't bad! Overall, I was impressed by the service (very attentive) and the presentation of each dish. I will be back!

I really loved every dish I had in harmony. Everything tasted flavorful and special. Favorite was the Hainan Chicken and Spicy Wonton. Others were great too - the charcoal tofu and cucumber salad. Walking in, their waiting list was broken, so thank goodness we were waiting inside looking where to go next that they stopped us in our tracks. Food comes relatively fast, even though they were busy on a weekend. Park further behind where there is a large parking lot that you can walk over from.

This Hainan chicken place is soooo good!!! We arrived for lunch on a Sunday, it was quite busy but we were able to be seated in ~10 minutes. The chicken here is SOOO delicious, very juicy and tender with delicious ginger sauce to pair with. Also comes with brown rice and soup on the side, portion was generous.

Decided to visit last night since I recently saw an IG post. I signed up on the mobile waitlist for 2ppl as we were on the way. I was #2 in line. As we walked inside, there were two other groups of 2 who walked in front of us. The host didn't even check the Yelp waitlist iPad and sat them before us. When she saw me, I pointed out I'm on the waitlist and she looked dumbfounded. She asked the other guests if they signed in and they said no, they 'walked in first". Host just let it go and said we will get the next table. That didn't sit right with me, so you just allowed ppl to cut the line?! Why have a waitlist if you're not going to honor it? Luckily another table got up to leave so I let it go. We ordered right when we sat down and we got our food very fast. Waitress was apologetic. Hainan chicken was flavorful, it was unusual with brown rice. Beef noodle soup was good too, lots of beef slices. Lemon ice tea was also very good. I would come back with my mom next time since she loves Hainan chicken.

Lost count on how many times I've been here, but it has been my official spot for good Hanan chicken noodle soup. Broth is on point and very flavorful. Though chicken isn't boneless, it's meaty and they give you decent amount. Vermicelli noodle pairs perfectly with broth. I've also tried their soy chicken noodle and beef noodle soup which are excellent. I've yet to try their Hanan chicken and rice, so will update my review on my next visit. Place is newly opened with clean modern atmosphere. It's located on corner of Garvey/Garfield Ave., next to United Pacific Bank. Plentiful parking available in back of the restaurant at Hong Kong Super Market.

Very good hainan chicken, juicy, not dry 9/10 Would come back again just for the hainan chicken Ordered the spicy wonton, it was very sweet and didn't see any chili in the sauce at all... very disappointed in that, not sure if it was mistake of someone making the sauce but it was definitely not spicy.. 1/10.. Charcoal tofu was good! Crispy texture outside, soft texture inside, worth a try! Service was good, order on the table with QR code, parking is in the back

(Review based on 3.5 stars) Newly opened restaurant (back in May), Nandao Rice & Noodle is located on a corner that is diagonally across from ABC Cafe and also right next door to Hong Kong Supermarket. My husband and I came here for an early dinner this past Saturday, around 4:15 pm. We were greeted immediately when we came in and asked to sit anywhere. Then we were given menus and a picture of water with cups. After looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: Charcoal Tofu, $7 prior to tax- Having never seen this on the menu before, I decided to order this. And the tofu was delicious. The outer layer was very flavorful but was not overpowering. The tofu inside really complemented the crust of the charcoal coating. I would order this again. This dish is served with a side of sweet chili but is also perfect on its own. I liked it both with and without. Scallion Oil Noodle, $13 prior to tax- This dish was a lot oiler than I was expected. This dish is also supposed to be served with a poached egg. I think it was too soft and meant for mixing in with the noodles and not actually eating (I have had poached eggs numerous of times) because the yolk just popped immediately after I tried to scoop if up with a soup spoon. The chew of the noodles was good and did the flavor of this dish was also good. Hainan Chicken Rice, $18 prior to tax- I liked that this dish came with a bowl of soup, which was really delicious. My husband really liked the soup. However, the chicken itself was rather salty. My husband also felt that the chicken was pretty salty too. -------------------------- (Total= $42 after tax, prior to tip) Initially I wanted to order the chicken lime cold noodles since it was a pretty hot day that we came. But the employee who took our order said they could not omit the jalapeno that is in this dish. I do not eat spicy foods so I decided to get the scallion oil needs instead. Service was minimal. After we got our order taken, we just had our food brought to us and that was pretty much it. But it was not hard to a server's attention though if we wanted more water. I don't know if I would come back for the same dishes, as they were not as good as I was hoping they would be. But I would be open to trying this place again.

Scallion oil noodles, Hainan chicken, and Charcoal Tofu
    Candy D.

Hands down the best Hainan chicken I've had in SGV area. Yes, it's on the higher end price-wise, but you can taste the quality in every bite. The rice is fantastic, and the accompanying soup is a lovely touch that rounds out the dish. The scallion oil noodles were a standout too, beautifully chewy texture and packed w/ flavor. The charcoal tofu, unfortunately, was ok. One thing to note: this place is small (fewer than 8 tables), so it can get busy during peak hours esp for larger parties 4+. Worth the wait though - I'll definitely be back. Plenty of parking in the back.

Great food. The service was very attentive. The portions were a bit small. The charcoal tofu was interesting. The Hainan chicken was good. HAPPY CHARCOAL TOFUING!

Kaya Toast! I love the added butter with the pandan and coconut jam !
    Constance C.

Both the Hainan and soy sauce chicken were tender and full Of flavor! Rice is packed with flavor! Love the word ear mushrooms! The dish was seasoned perfectly with light chili oil and vinegar. FYI, outside seating doesn't require wait list. It's first come first seated. Kaya toast was the perfect dessert! I recommend adding butter to the pandan and coconut jam.

My friends and I decided to check out this place after seeing all the good reviews. Luckily, we got there before the crowds so we were seated almost right away. We ordered the charcoal tofu, Hainan chicken, bak ku tai, kaya toast. The service is good. The servers mostly speak Chinese so it's easier to communicate if you speak the language. It took a bit longer to get the check towards the end since it got busy so my friend decided to pay at the counter instead. Out of all the dishes, my favorite was the charcoal tofu. I didn't know what to expect when the dish arrived. It turns out it's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, what a contrast! The Hainan chicken was also good. I feel like the portion is bigger and better than the one at Savoy, now I see why they have such good reviews. As for the other items that we ordered, they're alright. The Kaya toast was on the sweeter side, nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is acceptable. It had that hole in the wall vibe without being extra fancy but it looked clean. I would overall give this place 4.5/5 and look forward to bringing my family to try out this place

Came here because I saw a lot of social media influencers promoting this place for their Singapore style hainan chicken and decided to give it a shot. As a Singaporean, I have to say that I'm a little bit disappointed at the hainan chicken although I do think that their soy sauce chicken is pretty good and it's something that I would order again. For the hainan chicken, I think the chicken was cooked well and the sauce is decent, but the rice was lacking the fragrance from the fat which to me was a big miss. The soy sauce chicken was much more flavorful and juicy. We got the truffle fries as well which was not too truffley (barely tasted any truffle tbh). The spicy wonton was also more vinegar forward. Overall, would return again but for the soy sauce chicken.

I haven't had the chance to try their other dishes though. Therefor, I will concede on yelp with a 4/5 since it may be preferable for those that like a traditional singaporean hainan chicken. They provide three sauces for variety: dark soy, ginger oil, and ginger-garlic-chili sauce. They're all pretty tame in taste and the chicken itself is cooked nicely. The ratio of skin to meat isn't too much or too little. Inside the restaurant is cozy, and reminds me of the restaurant tycoon mobile games. It's adorable really.
