The location is small and on the corner of nowhere, but the food was pretty satisfying. I can get very picky with where I order Mediterranean food, because I know that the food can be oily and dry at some places. Thankfully, Johns Kabob cooks decent kabobs at a reasonable price. I ordered the chicken kabobs with Greek salad (dressing on the side) and steamed veggies (not officially on the menu, but you can always order if you want a lower-carb or healthier side option). The chicken kabob was a little dry, but otherwise very flavorful. The Greek salad was also quite tasty! Even without any dressing, the lettuce greens were sweet and crisp. Overall, my biggest takeaway is not to let the location scare you from going inside for delicious food. read more

My friends have recommended Johns Kabob many times, and I decided for once I would order takeout with them. I have one friend in particular who orders from there several times a week, and speaks fairly positively about their food. Currently, the restaurant has a deal for 2 combo plates for $20. I wish I had known about that ahead of time, but honestly the default prices are quite good as it is. I ended up ordering a gyro sandwich for lunch, no sides. The pita bread was nice and soft, the meat was good quality and texture, and I liked the yogurt sauce for the sandwich. I also liked that they gave me some banana peppers, and I felt that added a nice kick to the sandwich without being overpowering. If you order the hummus you get hummus, but no pita for dipping, and that seems kinda dumb. (The hummus was just OK.) The room is small but airy and there's also outside seating. Our new go to catering place when we have people over for dinner! We have come to this place about half a dozen times now and get their "King Kabob" every time. Depending on how many people we have over, we get a different number of Kabobs, but they're always great. The catering trays come with a choice of salad, rice, pita and a healthy amount of garlic sauce. Most importantly, they really do cook their food at the time you ask to pick it up. I always show up 5-10 minutes early to pick up the food I order knowing that most restaurants will get it ready earlier than you ask so that it's there when you show up. Came here for a late lunch on Saturday with a friend. The chicken was nicely seasoned and juicy and tender. The fries were some of the best I've had because it was crispy and not drenched in oils or salt. I feel bad writing this review but as the co founder of a start up business I thought the owners should be aware of the poor customer services and attitude of their staff. Frankly I did enjoy the meal, it was fresh and came out in a timely manor. The 3 star rating is based on the attitude of the young Lady with black hair and moderate amounts of forearm hair. Don't get me wrong, my opinion has nothing to do with anything other than a single visit to the location. My true hope in posting this review is they that lady in the picture might read it. And in her reading it she might try and have a more optimistic view on work and customer service. I hope she can learn this lesson of being happy while she is still young and not leave customers with the opinion that taking their order or helping them is such a burden. Look in the mirror and smile, smile when you face your customers. Have basic common manors when helping people who are trying to give you money. One trip- note to self; do not take it as rude when any of your customers is on the phone when they approach your counter. Remember to treat your customers with respect and you will start getting 5 Star Reviews and not 3 Stars. Ordered through Postmates! We got one of the chicken and beef kebabs combo plate ($14). It came with 2 sides and pita bread. We picked rice and a salad. The rice didn't have much flavor compared to other Mediterranean places I've had, but it was still really good and cooked well! The salad was delicious, I really loved their dressing (no idea what it was, it looked like half oil and half something else that was purple). Their pita bread was also delicious - very soft. We also got one of the wraps ($8). I forgot which meat we picked, but it was really good! My only complaint is that there wasn't any sauce in the wrap. The kebab/skewer meat was also pretty dry. The food was fresh and good portions. The decor was very inviting and cute. So why can't the customer service be as inviting I wondered... I honestly thought maybe she was just super busy so we tried to make our orders quick and simple and grabbed a seat. The food came out beautifully! But it's a shame the same can't be said about the person bringing it out. :( No smile. No eye contact. And our "thank you's"?? Forget a "you're welcome". They never even got an awknowledgement. I walked inside at one point to get an extra plate and felt more like a nusaunce than a valued customer. Maybe it was an off day? Iam absolutely upset about my meal, I ordered falafel pita wrap they gave me falafel on a flour tortilla, with a bunch of lettuce and tomato, the sauce was not correct type they didn't put the long pickles in it they absolutely butchered the falafel pita wrap, I was so hungry and returned my food but they ruined my day , I also ordered the gyro Fry's and falafel wrap to begin with but they messed up and brought me falafel by it self so I said ok let me try, the falafel by itself was great so I said ok let me reorder my wrap hoping it would be just as good as the falafel by it self, and see if they take my order correctly this time, but no she said they have to take that off the menu that they've been making it like that, but clearly on there menu and in any middle eastern place know its supposed to be with pita bread, they didn't even try to fix the order! This is one of our favorite restaurant we like because is near by we live. John's Kabob is probably the only Mediterranean restaurant in Monterey Park and surrounding areas. We like John's Kabob because everything scratch made everyday, how they do it in the mediterranean using old recipe and using fine ingredients and spices. We decided to go to John's Kabob for dinner, we saw the cashier we know she is say to us they have two new board items the chicken Sharwarma and the chicken fajitas. I got the chicken shawarmra and my wife got the chicken fajitas, she brought our food wow it smell and looks so good.. The chicken shawarmra come in two pita warp the biggest suprise was the spear pickleb overall it had good flavors. The rice was really good nice and fluffy. Food might take longer to come out because all all their food is made to order and scratch. Food: 1) Chicken Kabob Plate: I thought the chicken kabob was decent. It was bit dry, but it did not lack in flavor. It also came with two sides... choice of salad, fries, and rice or hummus. I ended up getting salad (had a big portion) and the hummus. I thought the salad and hummus complimented my meal reall well. Loved the hummus! I was literally dunking my chicken kabobs into hummus and it made me happy! Didn't do my happy dance that day, but I'll definitely do it next time I go. 2) Beef Kabob Plate (friends order): I actually like the beef a little bit more even though I had a small piece. Here's to hoping this place sticks! What use to be Dorado Ceviche Bar has now been reincarnated into John's Kabob. There aren't many reputable Mediterranean/Greek places in the area so this place is in its own league. Gyro Wrap -- Get the wrap by itself for just $5.95 or as a combo for an additional $2. Their pita was exceptionally thick yet soft, it was as if they just popped out of the oven fresh. The wrap was stuffed with mouthwatering slices of gyro. I was pleasantly surprised at how much meat was in there. Their tzatiki sauce was very light so don't let the thick consistency scare you away. The wrap also consists of slices of onion and tomato, which gives the wrap some texture. Make sure you get their garlic sauce! I slabbed on so much of it in my wrap. Beware, it is strong. I normally am not a fan of Mediterranean, Greek, or Indian food. I mean, I'll eat it, but I wouldn't normally suggest it as something I crave or feel like eating. When it was time for us to think about what to order for dinner since we were going to be working late, we came across Johns Kabob. Slightly sick of Thai food by now (since there are limited choices for places that deliver), we tried Johns Kabob. If it wasn't for the fact that they deliver, we might not have gone this route. I ordered the sauteed shrimp plate ($12.95), and it comes with your choice of two side dishes: salad, hummus, steamed veggies (carrots and broccoli), rice, or fries. My choices of hummus and steamed veggies complimented the sauteed shrimp very well. The meal came with 4 pieces of pita bread, hummus, steamed veggies, and 8 pieces of sauteed shrimp. It didn't look like much when I opened the styrofoam container, but I was full after eating it all! I love the taste of the shrimp, which were also plump and juicy. The steamed veggies were slightly seasoned and the best way to eat it is with a bite of shrimp. It's also a good idea to eat the pita bread with hummus right away as the bread doesn't taste as soft 45 minutes later. A happy meal to make up for staying late at work and burning the midnight oil. I want to say it's on par with Ani's Chicken, but I don't recall shrimp being a choice there. Johns Kabob has been added to our list of places to order from for late night dinners. After my first initial visit 2 weeks ago, I would have given John's Kabob 4 stars, but when I came again a few days after, it was nothing special. There are literally two parking spots in the back, otherwise street parking is available. The first time around, I ordered a shrimp sandwich. Tasted pretty darn delicious to me with the veggies, sauce and a good amount of shrimp. Slather some garlic sauce and you had yourself a good meal! The second time around, I had the shrimp plate and it was nothing amazing. Shrimps were a tad over cooked. Our party of 8 all agreed the hummus was ... interesting and not in a good way.
