    Pork Chop Fried Rice
    Cath D.

Just casually found Yum Long through Yelp. I thought it would be just another "dumpling place" but to my surprise, the Dan Dan noodles had the right proportion of ingredients as well as the sauce making it the best yet Dan Dan noodles I have had. The Beef Wrap Pancake was exceptionally good...and I thought 101 Noodles' beef rolls was good, I now have a new favorite!! The Pork Chop was crispy, tender and NOT dry at all, paired with the yummy fried rice. And last but not the least, Shrimp and Pork Xiao Long Bao, the flavor of soup very tasty. Also, food service was prompt and quick not to mention our server; Dominique, she was very pleasant and patient with us since it was our first time, just the cherry top to our overall dining experience.

Thank you to Yelp for introducing me to this place and letting me sample the food. They ran out of the Thai tea and lemon peach green tea, so I wasn't able to try them. Overall, this place was great! I would definitely come back. It's reasonably priced and tasted good. The restaurant is clean and I enjoyed the decorations/style. The staff were sweet, but they kept forgetting things. They forgot to bring out our bowl of rice, so we didn't get it until we were halfway through our meal. Additionally, everyone got their xiao long bao before we did...even tables that were seated well after us. When we asked about it, they had clearly forgotten our order or something had gone wrong on their end. The check also needed approval, which took a little while, but I could tell the server felt really bad since this was the third issue they had run into with our table. Dan Dan Noodles ($10.99) - Slippery, thin noodles with a sauce that has a bit of spice. Not a lot of meat, but it came out quickly. Contains peanuts. I would get this again!! BBQ Pork Buns ($5.99) - Came out super hot. The buns were fluffy, and the filling was tasty. You can really taste the sweetness and BBQ flavor. Sweet and Sour Pork ($14.99) - Crispy and perfectly seasoned. It's not overly sweet and has a great sauce-to-meat ratio. Also came out piping hot. Dessert Sampler ($12.99): I'm definitely biased since I don't enjoy sweet xiao long bao. The taro xiao long bao was the best one out of the sampler. It was sweet and pasty with a slightly grainy texture. The flavor wasn't overbearing, which I liked. On the other hand, I was not a fan of the cheese xiao long bao. It tasted like nacho cheese or kraft mac and cheese sauce inside of a dumpling. The filling was very liquidy and just wasn't for me. The chocolate ones weren't my favorite either, but again I'm not a sweet tooth when it comes to dessert dumplings.

I'm always interested in trying these "DTF dupes", and actually wound up liking the food here more than I thought I would. We arrived around 6pm and even though it said there was a waitlist (Yelp tablet) and a paper saying 25 min, the wait was only ~5 min at the time. We were seated but didn't get a server for a bit, which gave us time to figure out what we wanted to try from their sizable menu. Wound up ordering a few of the same items we'd usually get at DTF to see how it compares--pork chop fried rice, two longs of XLB, sweet & sour ribs, and a pan-fried cabbage and pork dumpling. The most noticeable difference is the food is seasoned much more heavily (not salty) than DTF, with strong spices etc. The rice, XLB, and dumplings are all quite delicious, while the pork chop and ribs aren't really my thing. The pork & shrimp was better than the pork XLB, and the dumplings had an interesting flavor that reminded me of lapcheong. The wok items are huge, was mildly shocked by the size of the pork chop rice when it came out. Restaurant is fairly small so if you go at peak times, definitely expect a real wait. Free parking in the underground garage.

The food was sublime. Delicious and filling. I was especially impressed with the dessert xiao long bao - they were not too sweet and the variety of flavors was unexpected. I was fond of the chocolate and strawberry. The pork fried rice was a good portion. Worth every cent. Not sure about the Dan Dan noodles - not much pork in it but it was tasty. The bathroom wasn't being monitored so understandably, there was no available toilet paper. This is part of the growing pains that come with opening a brand new restaurant so I am certain that with time, checking on the ladies' room will become part of their natural rhythm. I had a wonderful experience here, however, checking in was hectic. The kiosk is positioned right by the door with very little room. Perhaps management can create a system that would make navigating this less stressful and more efficient. All in all, this is one of those restaurants we will bookmark for future visits. I would be proud to bring my in-laws here for a meal - the place looks fancy and expensive.

Had a really yummy dinner at Yum Long! I'm honestly surprised by how delicious everything I tried was. As a big Din Tai Fung fan, it was difficult not to compare certain dishes, but I can wholeheartedly say that this place is just as good, if not better. The pork XLB, the wontons, the chicken- everything was so, so good! The only item I'd probably pass on next time is the cucumber salad. The pieces were cut too large for my liking, and the sauce wasn't as savory as I typically prefer. However, everything else was a solid 10/10. As with any restaurant that serves great food, expect a wait, especially on weekends. The space itself is quite small, but the friendly service does a good job of keeping things moving along. Surprisingly, the food came out very quickly, which was nice after waiting about thirty minutes for a table. Highly recommend checking this restaurant out.

We felt rushed. We came on a Thursday night and it was a long wait. But our actual meal time lasted about 30 mins because we felt really rushed. The dessert dumplings came out with everything else and ended up getting cold on the table which impacted the experience. Overall, the food itself was mid compared to others in the area. XLB 3.5/5 - this was okay. The wrapper itself could be thinner but it was good. The broth is clean and flavorful. Pan fried dumplings- 2.5/5 - this was dry. String beans - 3/5 - as expected Cucumbers - 4/5 - added some of their chili oil and it was good Onion pancake - 4/5 - this was good Dessert xlb - 2.5/5 - meh, each of the xlb we diff sizes so it felt like cook time was off. It also arrived super early so sat at our table for a while, which likely impacted overall taste. In general, this place is okay. However, considering it's in SGV with hella competition...

There was a wait at 11:30 am on a Friday, so plan accordingly. The service was good, and the food was good. I liked the beef wrap pancake. It was fat with lots of meat and veggies. The orange chicken was surprisingly good. The chicken they use is high quality, juicy, and not overly processed like other places. For the beef noodle soup, there was a good portion of beef, and the noodles were nice and chewy. I enjoyed all the food.

Walking into the restaurant, I was warmly greeted by staff. Appearance wise, this place was well decorated and designed beautifully. Everything was placed with intent. I will say it isn't the biggest, so you may have to wait before being seated. Food wise, my favorite dishes were the Shredded Chicken with Black Truffle, Cucumber Refresh Salad, and the fried rice. The xiao long baos also had a lot of soup! However, out of all the dishes, it was the most lacking of flavor. Don't get me wrong, it was still delicious! Calamari was also a bit overcooked, but still good flavor wise. Overall, everything was great and I'd love to come back and try more dishes.

For a restaurant that is still in their soft opening, I have high hopes for the future of Yum Long! My friends and I got there on a Sunday afternoon and only waited 25 minutes. They definitely have had longer lines, so this was a relief. After the afternoon wave, I saw that the wait could get as long as 45 minutes. Fortunately, they are located in a plaza where there are other dessert and drink options while waiting. For foods, we tried everything that our server Dominique recommended. She was warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond for us. Our water pitcher was always full and plates were cleared in a timely manner. We had the xiao long bao (pork) the green beans, cucumber salad, dan dan noodles, beef rolls, beef braised noodle soup, and the house special fried rice. The beef braised noodle soup was the winner for us. I could order just their soup and I would have been happy. I didn't taste too much oiliness in their soup! I wish the cucumbers were cut a tad bit smaller to make it easier to eat. The beef wrappers on the rolls were falling apart slightly so that could be improved but the flavors were all there. I highly recommend opting in for their dessert sampler that lets you try their signature xiao long bao flavors: matcha, taro, chocolate with banana, cheese (yes, cheese), and two of their chocolate with strawberry. The dessert sampler is a great way to see which flavors you would like more of in the future. I prefer a If Din Tai Fung is too out of the way, Yum Long is an impressive alternative that is sure to impress.

Overall cost and food quality made this place worth it! It's pretty busy since it is new but if you're able to get in makes up for the wait. Recommend coming for an earlier dinner to not wait as long. We got there around 6 pm and waiting for about 20 mins for a table of 4. Space is limited inside with a few tables but once you order the food comes out pretty quick. The Xiao Long Bao are steamed well and juicy! I also liked the dry pot cauliflower that had a good amount of flavor and cooked well. The Pork Fried Rice was also good and same with the Dan Dan Noodles. Great spot and would come back!

Located in Atlantic Time Square. It took over the business that used to be hot pot joint. We were seated immediately on a Thursday night. It wasn't too busy but there were some occupied tables. Decor is very modern. Clean and sleek! Waiters and waitress were pretty attentive since the restaurant is also not that big. It was our first time so I appreciate that the waitress recommended us some dishes to try. We eventually got the spare ribs, Shanghai rice cakes, pork xiao long bao, and Dan Dan mian. Everything came out fairly quickly! The Dan Dan mian came first which this one was pretty good! It's a bit salty, but it did taste heavy on the Hoi sin. The xiao long bao was pretty good as it was full of juice! It's also technically cheaper than many places I've seen, so I would say this one was well worth it. The spare ribs were also pretty salty, very dark in flavor. The Shanghai rice cakes was kinda bland, but also a little salty. Everything still tasted pretty good though! Overall, I would say a lot of the dishes were quite salty. All were pretty good, but kinda salty. I liked the Dan Dan noodles or xlb the best and the Shanghai rice cake the least.

I know this place is new and still finding its legs, but the foyer/entrance/sign in station/reception area situation is not organized very well. There should be a person directing people where to sign in and have everyone waiting to stay outside as to not crowd the space. That aside, the interior is actually really pretty. Nice accent pieces and high ceilings. The food is great, and the service is good, but it did take quite a while before we were attended to after we were first seated. Many claim (and I often agree) that you can tell about the quality of a Chinese restaurant through its sweet and sour pork. That being said, it was delicious and had the perfect balance and crispy texture. So, yes, the food is good, but they should figure out how to deal with the mob in front.

    Kristie H.

I tried the signature XLBs, Dan Dan noodles, and the dessert sampler. The XLBs were quite good--the skins were definitely on the thinner side. While they aren't the thinnest I've ever had, they are a solid execution and I'd definitely order them again. The Dan Dan Mian was also tasty, and the service was attentive throughout the meal. I also tried the dessert sampler to see what the hype was about. While dessert dumplings aren't personally my thing, my nephews absolutely love them. If I had to pick a favorite, the matcha was the standout, but otherwise, I'd probably stick to the savory menu next time. Overall, a very welcome addition to the area!

It never looked super busy, so I kept putting it off. Big mistake--don't let that happen to you like it did to me! We finally went in and ordered a bunch: the Spicy Beef Shank Rice Noodle, Rattan Pepper Sliced Beef Rice Noodle, Popcorn Chicken, Sesame Balls, Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake, Fried Milk Rolls, and Fried Taro Balls. Everything was outstanding. The noodles were amazing--fresh, chewy, with high-quality ingredients you can really taste in every bite. The broths had that perfect spicy kick without being overwhelming, and the beef was super tender. My wife and I couldn't stop eating; literally everything we tried was delicious. She especially loved the Fried Taro Balls--they were crispy outside, soft and flavorful inside. The sides/snacks were all hits too: the Popcorn Chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy, the Sesame Balls and Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake brought great texture and sweetness, and the Fried Milk Rolls were a fun surprise. Service was top-notch--shoutout to Icey, who took such great care of us. One of the best and most attentive experiences we've had in a while. Beef roll looked more like a giant taco but was also excellent. In the most convoluted sequence of restaurant occupancy in the annals of Chinese restaurants in the United States, Noodle King has supplanted Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch in Alhambra in the space formerly occupied by a different restaurant named Noodle King in the 1980s and 1990s. There's a lot to explain here. I used the compound name for the previous occupant because the name on the front entrance was Rice Hero, the back entrance said Hero's Kitchen and the digital menus said In Joy Lunch. I say the old restaurant was supplanted, not replaced, because the old restaurant sort of still hangs around, with a tiny sheet of paper with all 3 old names taped to the front door, and many old dishes still on the menu. Why the three names I don't know. In Joy Lunch had been a popup that operated during lunch hour serving Dongbei food in a space in YYDS Fried Strings in Rosemead. In Joy Lunch then struck out on their own last year with this space in Alhambra, adding the new names. The old Noodle King had been a Taiwanese noodle fixture before moving out in 2003. Since the new Noodle King also serves some of the Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch items, the same name seems to be just a coincidence. But despite holdover menu items the staff clearly say they're a new restaurant, with the Noodle King himself greeting you at the front entrance and the signage in both front and back now say Noodle King.

And onto the Khai soi; the crunch noodles and the soft noodles and mixed with all the mustard greens and red onion and the count curry sauce : all in one bite what a wonderful sensation of sweet, sour, spicy and the crunchy texture was welcoming and memorable. The curry had that hint of coconut that mellowed out the boldness of the curry. The restaurant was tiny and in this case definitely cozy. Staff was welcoming and engaging and checked on me every so often. The Thai coffee was perfect with the dishes as it mellowed out the spice in the appetizer and noodles. I will be back to try the other dishes.

Couldn't find the spot at first in the plaza but it is located near a McDonald's. Looked big from outside but was a decent size inside with a good amount of tables and seating space. Service was really fast, got seated quick and they were fast to take our orders which was crazy at first but they were on it with service so I appreciated that. Even the food came out pretty fast. Saw that the Beef Noodle Soup was good so I had to try it, the beef broth was delicious and I love bok choy so they had me at bok choy! Beef was nicely cooked too, I liked it! Dan Dan noodles were okay and it felt like it was spicy peanut butter but still good, just not my favorite. But the pork dumplings (xiao long bao) was YUMMY. It really hit the spot when we grabbed one each and the warmth and taste was delicious. Definitely my favorite! Pork and crab dumplings were good too! I was just too full at that point to have more of it all. I'd say this place satisfied my hunger and I left there super full so I'll comeback again :)

Yum! One of my to-go places in 626. It is a hole-in-the-wall in a Chinese plaza with maybe 7-8…read moretables. Service is quick and the staff speaks English. They specializes in Cantonese style wonton soup and congee. The wonton soup is my favorite and one of the best I've had in SoCal. I like getting the "two-item combo" noodle soup ($16) where you can pick two items (ex. wonton and beef stew) in a bowl of egg noodles. Delicious! The bowl also comes with a hefty portion of Chinese broccoli. The last couple times I came for lunch the place was pretty full but since service is fast you shouldn't have to wait very long, if at all. They take credit card. I've seen some reviews talk about it is dirty here? I never experienced or noticed that on my visits. It is no different from any other authentic, hole-in-the-wall style Chinese restaurant. Delicious, authentic, fast, and affordable. What else could you ask for?

If you want authentic Cantonese pork and preserved egg porridge or congee, continue looking. This…read moreplace is NOT it. FFS, they use super dry, super old chicken as the protein to make the congee with. Everyone knows you ought to use pork. There's zero pork in their congee! And for the pan-fried rolls, they are store-bought. They are not the steamed kind where authentic restaurants make in-house. They buy the $2.99 kinds from an Asian supermarket, slap some cooking oil and soy sauce onto the wok and call it a day. There's not even a corn starch slurry to thicken the sauce! It's like they either don't know how to cook good food or they think you the consumer can't disconcern what good food is. To add insult to injury, they charge you $11.50 for these piss-poor rice rolls when most restaurants add them to a breakfast combo for free. So you end up spending $11.50 for the porridge and another $11.50 for the rice rolls separately. Money gauging much?? Lastly, they charge 25 cents for every to-go container. They gave me two for my two items, so when the bill came, they tacked on 50 cents to the bill. How tacky. Spending money on disappointing food is another level of hurt. FAIL IN EVERY ASPECT. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT COME HERE.

I came to 101 Noodle Express in Alhambra for a late dinner on a Thursday night. It's located in the…read moresame building as Alhambra Valley Bowl. From the outside, you can't tell the inside has really good space with booths plus tables and chairs, but it does. They weren't super busy at the time... about 5 tables occupied. I was greeted right away by the one server who was working the entire floor. Interior was clean and well lit. Atmosphere was comfortable. Menu has a variety of options... boiled dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, steamed mini buns, stir-fried noodles, regular noodles, rolls & pancakes, side dishes, rice, soup, and beverages. They also have frozen food to-go (just two items... dumplings and dezhou chicken). I got one Steamed Mini Buns (aka Xiao Long Bao), one Stir-Fried Noodles with pork, one Lamb Noodles Soup (with hand torn noodles), and one Jasmine Green Tea with honey. Yes, this seems like a lot of food for one person. I'm not a stranger to bringing food home for another meal. *Steamed Mini Buns - juicy with flavorful pork filling, adequate skin thickness, good size buns *Stir-Fried Noodles with pork - best dish out of the 3, good balance between pork, veggies, and noodles, mild spice level was perfect, portions were reasonable for the price *Lamb Noodles Soup - great amount of lamb and noodles, lamb was tender, noodles were a tad mushy on the edge... they need to be firmer, soup was savory *Jasmine Green Tea with honey - good size cup, tea was a bit bitter, probably needs more honey Food came out steaming hot and timely. Staff and service were wonderful. Yan, the server, was patient and helpful. He did an amazing job working the entire floor by himself. Thank you Yan! Highly recommend this place for their pan-dried and soup noodles. I would come back for more pan-fried noodles and try their pan-fried dumplings. I have had ones in previous visits that the beef was chewy, not tender. You have a choice of regular noodles or hand torn noodles. Hand torn noodles are more filling since the noodles are much thicker than the regular noodles. They are both good. It is a matter of preference. The minced pork with noodles (aka Jia Jiang mien) is also good. For this visit, I did not order dumplings. But their dumplings are usually good. The service is adequate but don't expect good service.
