However, I just requested to have a two tier cake made and she is charging $525 for a two tier cake with no flowers serving 50 people. So I threw a baby shower for one of my BFFs and was looking for a bakery in OC that isn't far from the venue. So glad I found Jojo on Yelp!! Thanks guys!! I called first to make sure they were open and not closing earlier one day Jojo picked up and said they close at 5. I drove over there with like 15 minutes to spare. First off, finding this place is no easy feat. Because it's located at the end of a very industrial street (think big rigs, delivery trucks, AutoBody shops lol) and at the end of street (it's a dead end) you will see a big sign on a big building that says "Danjo Windows", immediately right below that sign you will see "JoJo's Cakes". Yes, so for all of you who are shopping for windows you can get some cake while you're there! Or vice versa! Jojo is a cool woman, I like her. I showed her a couple of photos and talked about the baby shower. And she made some sound suggestions, and in the end we agreed on a design from one of my inspiration photos. I texted Jojo the inspiration photo with some notes and then we were all set! (Bring cash!) When my girlfriends and I came to pick up the cake we were beyond thrilled! The cake was adorable!!! We ordered a two-tiered custom Minnie Mouse birthday cake for my baby's first birthday, along with matching cupcakes, cake pops, and a smash cake. I have to say that I was FLOORED when I saw how amazing and beautiful Jojo's cakes were!! Ordering with her was very easy. We were able to communicate through texts and send pics. I had a vision and she brought it to life. We set up a cake table for the party and used her cakes as the majority of the decoration and all our guests commented on how beautiful and DELICIOUS the cakes were!! Some advice: when you pick up the cakes, the bakery is actually in an industrial-ish area and the pickup area is shared with a custom windows business. This was my 3rd time ordering from Jojos and I have to say very disappointed. The cake tasted bad. Plus they overcharged me I requested for the cake 2 not be all made from fondant. The blue middle part was supposed to be just butter cream I asked Jojos sister if it was possible to just be butter on that section and she told me no because it was hard. So from top to bottom the whole cake had fondant which costs more. She knew exactly what she was doin by saying no and over charging for the cake. I don't like working with her sister but I understand that JoJo is not making the cakes anymore. I don't know if I would back. I reached out to JoJo in regards to her sisters work but she seemed not to really care. I was really looking forward to doing business with JoJo, unfortunately she didn't. I requested she make me a letter cake for my husband's birthday, which happened to fall on a Sunday. Since they were closed on Sunday, she offered to open it during my pick up time. This is the only reason for the 2 stars. To my surprise, things went downhill afterwards... I asked how to pay the 50% deposit and she requested that I pay in full. If I had done business with Jojo before I would have no problem paying in full. However, this was my first time. I have never been to the store nor have I ever met jojo. To top things off their store is closed on Sunday so what incentive would she have to show up when the cake has already been paid in full? I have ordered cakes from many places and all of them request 50% upon order and 50% upon pick up, especially for a first time order. This is the fair way to do business. An update on service only: I came to pick up some macarons on Valentine's day; I pre-ordered them a couple days in advance, since I knew that they usually have macarons on hand. But due to Valentines day, I wanted to make sure that they had enough available. I ended up ordering 2 dozen assorted macarons. When I got there, it was already packaged and the package was saran wrapped. Oops, I forgot to mention I needed them split up into 2 packages. So, I simply asked them if they could do this for me. Normally, if they aren't able to split it up, oh well, I'd stop by Michael's or Daiso or something and get another package and split them up for myself. No harm, no foul. I forgot to ask anyway. However, they agreed to it and took them out to the back... and for whatever reason, everyone seems to forget that I'm Vietnamese and can speak fluent Vietnamese. Well, smack talk ensued about how much of a pain in the ass I was being. WHAT?! I asked if you could split it into 2 boxes. Not do brain surgery. So I stood there in the lobby, waiting for these macarons. More smack talk ensued. The husband/gentleman asked "JoJo" (Or rather, Chau, her Vietnamese name) about how she was placing them kind of oddly into the boxes. She responded with, "Well, she wanted these last minute so she has to just deal with it." So anyway, just like the nail salon ladies... Word of advice, if you want to talk shit on your customer, maybe make sure you're not within earshot and they can hear you speak, even if you're speaking in another language. BECAUSE THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND YOU AND GET OFFENDED. Lastly, just a note: Their order forms show $1.75/ea; however, pricing has increased to $2/ea for the macarons. Van at JoJo Cakes is amazing and absolutely wonderful to work with! She did the spread for a friends baby shower today at fig and olive and all I can say is I'm blown away! We had a three tier lemon buttercream cake that all 50 fierce foodie females at the shower swooned over... Then for a little gift to the guests there was a Macaron and Chouquette Bar filled with the following macaron flavors: honey ginger, coconut, Mung bean, orange, jack fruit, and lotus seed. And to top it all off... we had decadent chocolate truffles to add to our goodie bags for our guests! Van is truly a special chef and an amazing person with uber talent.. Taste: her sweets are very delicate and subtle. She is not heavy handed in the sugars and really emphasizes on the natural flavors of all the fruits and ingredients she uses. Design: whatever I dreamed of.. Van made it possible... She's THAT good. Macarons: not many here in OC can replicate a true french macaron... But Van has been able to. I have got to say, Lauduree has got to be my favorite french macaroons in the universe; and since then, I've had such a difficult time finding similar taste & quality in a macaroon. One day I went to a function, and they had a platter of beautiful and perfect sized macaroons lying on a table. I had a bite, and I fell in love once again! I asked where they purchased these, and they told me JoJo Cakes @ the OC marketplace. The texture of the outer macaroon, is light, thin and has that right texture when you bite down the center, which is chewy NOT crumbly. The layer of creme is packed with flavor, and doesn't coat my throat with the taste of butter. My favorite macaroons are the mixed berry, pistachio, taro & lemon! OMG, I love them all! I am just a fan and most importantly one very satisfied customer! If you're in the OC area, DEFINITELY check this place out! Oh my gosh. I'm in love with macarons. I tried them first in Paris, and have spent MONTHS looking for ones that tasted as good as those. I found them at Jojo's. I walked past Jojo's stand at the OC marketplace and did a double take at the gorgeous French macarons in their display case. Since they're usually pretty expensive and I didn't have much cash on me, I forced myself to walk right on past. About ten minutes later I couldn't take it anymore and ran back to get a box. These macarons are DELICIOUS. My family and I ate through a box of twelve in two days, and I can't wait to go back and get more. read more
