Wow I will be back This is a if you know you know type of establishment, a hidden gem in seattle. The entrance is unassuming but the food is one of a kind. Absolutely delicious. Like many Goblins, I enjoy roasted meat. There are so many different preparations and directions you can go with a protein. Unfortunately, Jones BBQ is riding a wave of glory that has seen better days. It feels like Michael Jordan in the MLB. Part of the reason restaurants like this take a turn, is the passivity of the west coast elite. Where this Goblin is from, you can tell someone directly if you didn't like the service, the food was cold, the steak lacked flavor, etc. Nobody seems willing to state the obvious. This passivity hurts more than just restaurants. If more people had the courage to share honest feedback, I'm sure this restaurant would improve. But instead, they are being celebrated for mediocrity. Restaurants don't live by feedback, but it's a crucial part of constant improvement and longevity for any business. The "community" word we love to throw around, includes a feedback loop from business owner to customer. It's a small family run shop, and that is perfectly okay with this Goblin. There are kids and young men and women "helping" run the shop that are trying to find their footing in an extremely competitive and unforgiving business, "food". Despite warmongering the countryside, this Goblin respects a family business and the values that instills. If there weren't family members helping things run, I would give it 2 stars. What is tough to rationalize, is everything else. While placing an order, the young man helping me was in the middle of a phone call, which made the conversation a bit strained. He also couldn't explain the difference between a rib tip, and a rib. I don't need a theory of relativity breakdown, but food science can be a thing for everyone. Next, we have the lack of attention to detail. This led to missed sides, the wrong sauce put in the bag, and a return to the shop by a confused Goblin. Luckily, this Goblin is local, so it wasn't a "big deal". When these words are uttered, passivity creeps in and plants its roots of complacency and tolerance for things being done incorrectly. The mistake lives on, and chaos reigns. It's important to call out these things so people know what is really going on. Me wasting my time and energy on this review when I could be pillaging the countryside is a choice to try and inform and encourage this shop to change its practices. After resolving the issue, we were given free cake, free cornbread, and free pie! Hooray! Unfortunately, the crust on the sweet potato pie was translucent and gluey, it folded like a slice of NY style pizza. The cornbread was burnt, dry, and lacking flavor. I like GBD, but this was BBC. Black, burnt, and crusty. The double chocolate cake was ok, but it tasted like any old slice from the grocery store. We also ordered the hot links, ribs, and chopped pork, collards, and cornbread. The portions were good, but quantity outweighs quality in this places calculus. There was a lack of tenderness on the ribs that reminded me of my first couple slabs I cooked at home as a teenager. Tough, but edible. The chopped pork was ok, but nothing groundbreaking. The hot links were the best part, but everything was cold, so I put on a smile like people do on the west coast, and went about my weekend pretending nothing bad had happened. The collards were flavorless. Have you ever been so poor that your parents serve you canned green beans four times a week? Let me be frank when I say that these collards brought back sad memories. The only thing black this Goblin has is a black heart. I can't comment on the "authenticity" of the recipes from a cultural perspective, but having dabbled excitedly in many proudly black owned BBQ's and restaurants, this is confidently C tier. The food was excellent. The actual delivery of it was fraught with complications. First, they told my delivery driver that they had no green beans and suggested I cancel my order! Really? Then, they told the driver they could make a substitution and give me collard greens. I'm a Southerner, I can handle that. They were completely out of French fries but never told my driver! When my order arrived...there were zero French fries!! I was so mad. Don't be messing with my French fries! However, I got Instacart to reverse the charges for the fries. Best barbecue in Seattle! I took my boys there yesterday in the afternoon and was treated like family. It's been a while since I had Jones, so it's a must I add a review. Ordered Jones for Super Bowl! I love the service when I go here so maybe that's why I always come back despite the quality of the food. The sauce is always on point. The mac and cheese is on point this time around. My issue was the meat. The ribs and rib tips were overwhelmed with a smokey flavor. It was so bad, we couldn't eat it . The. Absolute. Worst. Barbecue and food. I. Ever. Had. Customer service was even worse! I purchased the 3 meat combo, rib tip, chicken & sausage with side of collards & Mac cheese! I figured I'd give the business a call before I decided to leave this review but upon calling, the employee who said she was the store manager made matters worse. I informed her the food was pretty much inedible. The chicken was dry, sausage was mush, ribs were hard & fatty, greens were flavorless & hard, Mac & cheese dry! Cornbread crumbled at every bite as if it was old. I informed her the food tasted old and outright nasty and replied with "maybe Jones Bbq isn't for you"! I was in disbelief being that I wanted to support this business being that it's a small business and black owned! I was really excited to try their food and support this business! This manager was beyond unprofessional and was on the phone "gossiping" the whole time while taking my order and cashing me out! I asked her to put me in contact with the owner or someone that could help me out because the food is so bad that I will not be eating it. $50+ dollars down the drain. I'm guessing she thought better and decided to call me back after a few minutes to hear my complaint. The damage was done. She said that she'll be giving my information to the owner I'm presuming. Pretty sure this place is here to rip people off. I have tried to order from them at least 3 times in the past 6 months. Every time it's the same... multiple drivers come to pickup and move on because food not ready. It is a major hassle to cancel without getting charged. They do not provide the food ordered ever. They are hoping you cancel so you are on the hook. The restaurant phone number no longer works... Imagine that. On a previous order I called them and they said they did not have that product there anymore, but they were not able to cancel. So they can steal my money. I ordered from the Jones Barbeque location at Lumen Field. The menu was very limited, so I ordered the Chicken Sausage and a soda. The sausage was very flavorful, but the bun was very cold. If the bun was at least room temperature warm, I would have been more pleased with the sausage. Overall, it was good for stadium food. read more

The woman at the store gave me a very scrapped together bunch of old meat that was not tender at all. She gave me 4.7 pounds of food that was very poor in quality and not at all tasty. I cannot serve this to my guests!!! She doesn't answer the store phone for clear communication . I will not be spending any more money with jones BBQ because of the lack of professionalism by this woman. I ordered the 2 way combo dinner with ribs and small ends. The ribs were amazing. They had a perfect barq on the meat and it was very tender and practically melted off the ribs. It truly hit that bbq crave I was feeling today. My combo I chose came with my choices of cornbread and macaroni and cheese. The Mac n cheese definitely is comfort food at its best. It is very rare to find it cooked this way. The milk formed a perfect curding mixed along the cheddar. It was exactly like my mom would make it. It wasnt overly salty like how some Mac n cheeses are. Had this delivered. Got the Famous Rib combo for 17 bucks (ribs + two 6 oz sides). First of all I appreciated that the food was packed with care. My sides (onion rings and mac n cheese) were placed in separate containers and the ribs were covered in foil which kept them warmer despite the slow delivery (I hate delivery apps). As far as taste goes, the ribs were very good. First off there was a very good quantity and they did not skimp. The sauce was very flavorful and the meat was falling off the bone. I found them very addicting. The onion rings were good. Crispy and well made. The mac and cheese was not great this time. It felt a little stale compared to the rest of the food. I enjoyed it overall and would definitely try it again, but only if I'm VERY hungry because it's a lot of food. The price is a little high but it definitely felt like I got my money's worth, it's just a really filling meal to the point that I'd probably skip lunch if I'm having this for dinner. read more

This restaurant used to be the best when it came to barbecue. I've been there twice in the last month and a half looking for ribs that were cooked on the barbecue outside and were full size pieces. I was very disappointed they cooked the ribs inside, and they chopped the ends off so that the ribs are not that long there are no grill marks on the ribs. Also, they used to have good banana pudding. Now there's hardly any bananas in there at all and they don't even make it the way it should be made or it has been made in the south, which is where I'm from. So I know what barbecue taste like and I know what banana pudding taste like. I'm just looking for ribs that were cooked on the barbecue outside and banana pudding that has bananas in the pudding. *Now Jones barbecue has some banana in the pudding but it's like they took a banana sliced it and then took the little round part and sliced it again so that you got four little teeny pieces of banana and they might put 22 of them in there. Not sure why our visits are few and far between... actually, it hasn't been 10+ years since my original review, but everything is still just fine and how I remembered it. Got the Four Way Dinner. You're supposed to choose 4 portions of meats but we got double order on the ribs, brisket and chicken. There's an up charge if you want double brisket so the tightwad in me spewed out chicken. They were nice enough to do sauce on the side so I could get a mild (16 oz) container and medium (8 oz) container. Enough food for the two of us to get two dinners. Still love the M&C, which I think is half & half plus cheese! No high falutin white sauce. First we had drive 30 minutes to get there. I personally was excited to get there, best bbq in the North West. The employees didn't seem to care. Asked if I want mild, medium or hot sauce, at first I said hot but thinking my wife may not like hot. Grabbed a peach Cobbler and a cheesecake slice. I was a smiling customer all the way home, bbq was unbearable to eat. I am not sure why both employees just basically gave me a cold shoulder, didn't ask if needed anything else. My husband placed a delivery order through the Jones BBQ website. The order never arrived and got a message that the order was cancelled and to call. So we called and they not only had no information about what was going on, they didn't care. The order never arrived. So we called for a refund and they woman said she put it through. But she was either lying or completely incompetent. The pending charge went through and no refund was ever issued. All we wanted was a bit of BBQ on a Friday night. What we got was a huge hassle, a business that simply does not care about its customers, and now a credit card chargeback. One of the worst restaurant interactions in West Seattle in 15 years. Never again will we make the mistake of trying to do business with these unprofessional, sloppy, unconcerned business owners. UPDATE: So not only did no one from this business follow up about this review or the credit card chargeback for the money they took for the order they never delivered, but it seems that this business is not above posting shill reviews here instead of addressing what is wrong. We chose chopped pork + brisket for the meats and potato salad + baked beans for the sides. We requested mild sauce on the side. The meats were well cooked but a tad salty. The meat is tender. The sides that I have been able to try are just okay in my book - mac and cheese and baked beans. Service: While the woman who took my order when I went in for takeout was pleasant enough, it took a very long time to pick up my food on a Thursday evening. I specifically asked how long the order would take and she said 5-7 minutes. I waited 30 minutes. Now, 30 minutes isn't THAT long but the right expectations were not set initially. Ambiance: This is a tiny store. Not a dine-in establishment, which has served this restaurant well during this quarantine period. I ordered this on Uber Eats to be delivered to my work. It was DELICIOUS and packaged clean and correct. When you received your food, you knew people had taken care to seal it off from any hazards that might occur. LOVED beef brisket with mild sauce and the potato salad. Next time i will order a large potato salad because it was that good. Arrived fresh, juicy (not dry), hot and tasty. Portion of meat was fairly-priced and generous in portion. This is one of those places that brings you instant comfort on a gloomy/rainy day (which is like every day now in Seattle). I ordered the Mac and cheese, baked beans, and corn bread via Uber eats and was pleasantly surprised by the packaging and portions! The container with the beans was wrapped so well that nothing spilled and all the food was still hot when it was delivered (like I'm talking burn my mouth hot).
