Definitely felt the authentic petty Korean xenophobism during the entire meal. We are not Korean. We came to enjoy a Korean style bbq and the meal was spoiled right from the start with the waiter asking us for drinks and then because someone in the party did not have ID, said None of us can drink even though we showed our IDs. WTf? First time I heard that policy. What about if parents bring kids and the parents want to drink? Is that not allowed? We saw the Koreans getting served alcohol with no problem. Also side dishes were coldly brought to our table and not graciously refilled. I had to ask each time for some side dishes to be refilled even though they were clearly running low. Not thoughtful. There also wasn't much variety and didn't taste like much. Only 1 bowl of rice for 3 people?? Seriously? Food was obscenely expensive. 3 thin pieces of LA Galbi was like $43! We also got the Beef platter for $110. Not generous portions. The seafood pancake was the only good thing and also the cheapest at $18. The small soup and separate order of seafood kimchi soup they combined without asking me. The total portion was mediocre and not much taste. Also ambiance was lacking. The seats were rickety and we were shuffled from 5th floor to 2nd floor since when we were coming in they were conveniently "closing" the 5th floor even though it was still bustling. The waiter was grilling our meat brusquely and when he pulled down the exhaust pipe abruptly it knocked my hand I was so scared, Overall will not be back. They still managed to charge us over $250 for 3 people without any drinks! And half assed food and service. The entire meal we ate silently because we were shocked by the bad treatment, we felt strangely unwelcome like we just forced ourselves into their exclusive Korean social club. We had the beef platter which says 2-3 people which is accurate. We will get marinated beef next time as we had the regular beef platter thinking that the sauces would suffice and felt that the flavors could be better if we had gotten marinated. I've been here twice in the last two months, and have sat on both floors they had. If you have a choice go with the higher floor (I think they have 3 & 5). Has a fun themed feel to the decoration of this place the top floor has a larger bar so while you wait, and chances are you will be waiting, you can get a drink at the bar. On the lower level you can order beers while waiting. For food, we always go with one of the grilled meat sets. When I went this week we got the marinated meats, two beef and one pork. All three options were good but the two beef options were much better. With all of the sets you get a free bonus meat option, one of the intestines from the menu. I've never had intestines before but our waiter mentioned the marinated version tasted like squid. Honestly it totally did and I was surprised with home much I liked it. You get a ton of banchans or sides, they did seem to change between the times I visited. My favorites were the kimchi, the green onion kimchi, large shaved radish and the corn cheese (which was a total surprise that I got the second time I visited and not the first). The first time I went we got lettuce to make wraps with and when we didn't get them the second time I asked about it and they just said the only lettuce they had was the salad, odd. We came here on a recommendation for a birthday dinner, and we were quite satisfied with our visit. Similar to other Korean BBQ places, they prepare your protein at the table-here, however, they also take the wheel somewhat and actually do the preparation, compared to many others we've visited. This could be good or bad for you, depending on whether or not you like the kind of "interactive" component of your visit, but it was nice for us to focus only on eating. While the proteins were great, the banchan did leave something to be desired-it would be nice to see more and better variety. One of them, though-the gyeran-jjim/steamed eggs-were fantastic; their flavor and levity were a great addition to the meal. My kids have been dying to check out Jongro BBQ, claiming the vibe is on point. Easy enough for us to hop on the train and be there in 45 minutes so decided to venture for lunch. Located on 2 floors (2nd & 5th) and we were directed to the 2nd for BBQ. Got off the elevator and greeted immediately. Looked around and the interior seemed bright and open. Music was going and my 16 year old was happy . Seated us in a booth, which was rather spacious. For a 2:00 on a Friday, the place had a nice crowd. Our server greeted us relatively quickly and throughout the meal the service was wonderful. Many hands make light work.. We definitely over ordered, but that's what we do. This is probably the best KBBQ I've had in years. We were looking for dinner in K-town on a Friday night. Many places were packed. Jongro was less so, being on the second floor and all, so we gave it a try. The food was absolutely delicious. Just delicious. The service was great (one of those places where they cook for you). My buddy from Seoul said the quality here was comparable to getting KBBQ in Korea directly. When I go back to New York, I will go to Jongro gain. 5/5. Came back after a while on a Friday 10.30pm sicne the other spot we wanted to go was already closed!! No line so were deated right away. We only wanted a light meal so had a soup and a japchae. Soup (beef short ribs soup) was hearty with a piece of ribs that you can't see here because it got cut alreadt, but it was decent (would love to be more tender, lack a more cooking time) The downside was that it was extremely salty. And not sure if too much msg as well since we both were drinking plenty of water and felt thirsty afterwards. Japchae was really good but the downside is that they took the wrong order (we ordered with beef and came in veggie only). Jongro has easily become my go to for Korean BBQ when entertaining guests and fun catch up sessions with friends or family. They have an outdoor waiting area in the lobby as the main dining area is on the 2nd floor. During the pandemic, this outdoor area was sometimes used as additional dining space. Jongro is great because they are very organized and the wait isn't usually that long, despite their lack of accepting reservations (unless for larger groups). They do take your information at the door and text you once your table is ready. Service is pretty casual and they try to keep you on pace as your grill selections cook or if you order from their kitchen. They have a pretty good selection of meat and seafood packages. There are some vegetables available if you want to opt for that. If, like me, you're not able to gorge on unlimited dining options, Jongro has just the right portions for you. I prefer quality over quantity but often bring along hungry mouths to help me indulge. Although, this cozy spot doesn't offer the frills and extras that other places do, it's a good way to experience Korean BBQ without much fuss! No Halloween weekend planned a double date dinner to Jongro and I want to say I was not disappointed. The entrance to the restaurant is not your normal entrance as it looks like your going into a law office. The restaurant is walk-in unless you have a big table you will have to call to make a reservation as there will be a wait time around dinner time but luckily they have two floors! The 5th have the drinks so if you want some delicious drinks head to the 5th floor where you can sit at the bar and wait till your table is ready. The bartenders serviced us right away and the drinks did not disappoint. The lychee was my go to which had plenty of lychee on it which is not use to and then I had the Sunday Seoul which has a punch to it. I recommend either one! Jongro is an a la carte Korean BBQ restaurant located on the second floor. It is a large place but the bathrooms are tiny and cramped. My friend and I went on a Sunday evening and was seated right away without a reservation. We ordered a beef combo set, tteokbokki, and LA galbi. It was a bit too much for two oeople. Service was quick and attentive. Ban chan was a bit lacking though. It consisted of steamed egg, macaroni salad, soup, and kimchi. The soup was good though. They did offer us rice. The egg was cooked in front of us. There was also lettuce, two types of onions, and scallions for the meat. The meat was very good even un-marinated. My favorite was the steak and LA galbi. Do note that they cook the LA galbi at the end though since they have to change the grill type. I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't so full.
