Hidden Gem. Prime rib on Friday and Saturday. They do serve basic alcohol beverages. Great breakfast, burgers, sandwiches. They have a great kids menu and comfortable table seating. The portions are huge and delicious. I got the fried chicken burger, and the coleslaw was fresh and crunchy. The fried chicken was delicious! They have a 3% up charge for credit card payments. Make sure you're not being charged the 3% fee if you pay cash, they're bad about it and rude if you ask. Their bathroom stinks!!!! It smells like chemical sewage. I got a headache and was nauseated for hours after leaving the restaurant. On top of that, their food was so bland. Hash browns and coffee were the only decent thing but that's about it. Seriously you're better off going to IHOP down the road or the tried and true Copper Skillet in downtown. Service here is exceptional! First time here. The servers chat with almost all the customers. It seems like family. Our server said about half of their customers are regulars. The owner came out to refill coffees and talk with all the customers; she was very kind. It's a very friendly casual environment. As far as food, honestly to me it was ok. I had the CA eggs Benedict. I couldn't really taste the hollandaise. Also the hash browns were mostly soft and only small amount fried. I prefer more flavor and texture. Hubby got the Sante Fe. He liked it. We liked this place until we didn't. Ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and salmon tacos. I'm not sure why the salmon tacos were so good two weeks ago and then so absolutely bad now, as they decided to use smoked salmon and then pan-cook it. I'm not sure if the chefs know but smoking is the cooking process, so cooking it again makes it basically cardboard. Jps is located next to safeway and it's safe to say that they grabbed bagged lettuce mix, Ready-Pak, and put it in the wrap. It was basically all I could taste, unfortunately. So disappointed... I had read rave reviews for JP's in a FB food group I'm part of so I went with high expectations. My friend and I went for lunch. We shared an order of the Twisted Potatoes, which were described as like chips on a skewer. The twist was there, but they were not crisp, were greasy and had no seasoning. Not even a side of ranch dressing helped. My friend has a BLT with fries and I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with onion rings. Both of our orders came with fries. Our waitress had to put in a second order for my onion rings, so while I was waiting I tried a fry. Just as with the twisted potatoes, the fries were not crisp, were greasy and had no seasoning at all. My chicken sandwich was made up of two chicken tenders vs a nice single piece of chicken. They were on the dry side and again no seasoning, and my bun was soggy. When the onions rings arrived, they were also greasy and unseasoned. My guess, the fry oil was just not heated properly which is why everything was greasy, but the lack of seasoning?? The staff was friendly and they did take the twisted potatoes off our ticket and offered other things on the menu to replace my meal, but honestly I was not too hopeful anything would be better so I did not try anything else. She went back to our car where I found her throwing up. She told me there was a hairball in her food. Like a clump of hair. First adventure to JPs bistro over the weekend and looking forward to going back. Arrived at the busiest part of their brunch rush around 11am. They advised they could seat right away but the kitchen was very backed up and it could be 30-45 minutes for food. We appreciated the prior warning and stayed. The amount of seating space inside is incredible. Tons of tables. They have a very extensive menu as well. We had the classic eggs Benedict with potatoes, biscuits and gravy a la Carte, florentine omelette with potatoes and the strawberries and creme French toast. The consistent negative was the completely undercooked potatoes on every dish (they looked cooked and browned but were hard). The waitresses was very kind and promised to let the chefs know as we waited to tell them until the end of our meal. Eggs Benedict had a thick cut piece of Canadian bacon and the eggs were poached to perfection, still slightly runny. The omelette had a good ratio of ingredients to eggs and the spinach inside was wilted just right. The strawberries and creme French toast was ok. Wish the bread was thicker and that it had more strawberries. It all had a nice flavor but the creme did melt almost immediately and run all over the plate into the eggs and bacon as part of the combo. Looking forward to trying more of the menu including lunch items which sounded amazing. Give PJs a chance! This new Martinez establishment was much needed in the area. read more

I was on a work lunch here and it was ok for what it was. Portions are good and pricing is reasonable. However there were a few things that missed the mark. I ordered a hamburger but it tasted like the patty was frozen and not freshly made. Service is great. You definitely feel like you are at a neighborhood joint. It is mostly diner style food. The menu has way too many items on it. Ambiance is fine until you go to the bathroom. The bathrooms are really bad. Not by the owner's fault. They've tried to do everything possible to remedy the situation but nothing can get rid of the awful stench in the restroom. I think it is coming from the drain. They put some fragrance to mask it but it doesn't work. read more

I checked this place out with my dad for lunch and was happily surprised! I used to come to this location when it was a Chinese restaurant. The staff was very friendly, service was very fast too. Yesterday, I was released from a meeting for a lunch break and had asked about decent places for deli sandwiches. A few regular locations were mentioned but not this one. So I thought why not give it a try. I was greeted quickly and allowed to pick my own seat with guidance. Then handed the menus while being asked if I cared for a soda or something while zi reviewed the menu. I asked replied with yes please, I'd love a coke. so a can, glass of ice AND straw were placed on the table for me. I had already looked st the menu outside but had a couple questions regarding local favorites. She answered, " All of our menu or favorites.". I looked at her and smiled. I ordered the below pictured CA Club. This has ham, turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce, avocado and tomatoes with mayo on toasted sourdough bread. It was really TALL and tasty. But the best feature was those hot fresh golden crispy outside fries!!! Yes and their RANCH is the best I've had in a long while so now I will go back and have a salad just so I can experience another level of their ranch. Recently went to JP's Bistro in Martinez for the first time for a group luncheon. Wait staff were amazing, juggling our group of 15, a second large group, plus smaller groups of diners, all with prompt service and attention. The menu was extensive, with everything from breakfast/brunch items, sandwiches/salads/soups, to evening dinner meals. Wait staff even accommodated our group having individual tabs for payment, so we didn't have the headache of calculating who owed what. This was done smoothly, without any errors in the tabs! I ordered a grilled Reuben sandwich and onion rings, plus a deep-fried zucchini spiral to share with our friends. My husband chose a Mexican chorizo omelet plate with hash browns & toast. Both were delicious! The portions were very generous, so we we took home leftovers to enjoy later! All of our friends also enjoyed their meals as well. JPs Bistro is located in the Muir Station shopping area, just down the road from Kaiser, and the highway entrances in the other direction. It's right next to the Nob Hill, sort of nudged into a corner, but not quite the actual corner of the shopping center. The sign is a bit bland, so you may miss it the first drive around if you're not paying attention. The place is a diner-esque style place, which serves primarily breakfast-lunch foods, such as omelettes, sandwiches, and other typical dishes you'd find at a diner style type of place. While it's not a terribly large building, the way they have the layout of the inside configured, it can sit a fair number of people inside, though no super large tables, so you may need to call ahead to arrange for a larger party perhaps, though they could just put tables together since no booths or anything, just all individual tables and chairs. The decor is kind of a weird mix between a diner/sports bar styling, and they do have TVs available for sports fans. The staff here are friendly. No issues when I was here today. Had a couple of issues with the food, but provided feedback to the staff, and they seemed receptive at least, so that's always a good sign they care. The owner happened to be here today too, and she was one of these friendly people who dropped by to listen to the feedback. The menu, as mentioned before, is a typical diner style type place, with breakfast/lunch dishes as the focus, but that doesn't mean they don't have dinner entree options as well. You can certainly drop by for some of these things during the night time if you're hungry for something other than breakfast/lunch, since that's what I came here for tonight. Pricing wise, it's fair, particularly for nowadays. Nothing was terribly expensive, and if the portions of my meal tonight with the prime rib are any indication for the other dishes, the portions are great for the price you pay. For Friday/Saturday, after 4PM, they have Prime Rib. This was the primary reason I decided to visit JPs Bistro on this day. The price for the prime rib was a steal, especially considering the portions you get there, so well worth the cost for those who are interested in fairly priced prime rib, though keep in mind, only Fri/Sat after 4PM. The prime rib comes with two sides, which you could also replace one of the sides with soup if you choose too, or it typically comes with veggies/mashed potatoes. I decided to get a side of the veggies, and also a cup of the homemade clam chowder. The clam chowder here was pretty great. It's got that nice and thick consistency, and the clams inside are the entire clam, and not just the small pieces on the outside that's usually shredded up to make it seem like the soup had a lot of clams. In this chowder, there were plenty of clams without doing any of that needlessly flashy approach. It was indeed a tasty clam chowder and a nice surprise to be totally honest since I didn't come here clamoring (you get it?) for the chowder, but worked out. Before I talk about the prime rib, I just want to say how disappointing and inconsistent the veggies were today. My eating companion's veggies were somewhat better, but were not evenly seasoned, but at least steamed all the way through. My veggies on my plate were flavorless, bland, and not even fully steamed properly, so it felt like I was eating cardboard while I struggled through my side. When the few pieces that my companion had were flavored right, it was actually not bad, though it seemed to just be a basic butter based flavor, but at least more edible than what I had on my plate. Next time, just going to order the mashed potatoes, lol. Now, the prime rib. The prime rib here is decent. I do kind of wish they came with au jus sauce or something, but wasn't necessary. Did feel a bit under seasoned though for a prime rib regardless, but at least the meat was cooked well. We came here early today, so we were free to pick our cuts since I'm sure neither of the roast had been cut into yet as we were one of the few tables there. I got the rare piece, why the other eater got the medium rare. I may get the medium rare next time, as that was nicely done. The rare piece here is a bit tougher than I would usually like from other places. The fat pieces too also weren't exactly rendered down enough from the cooking, so it was more chewy than gelatinous. Not quite melted enough, but also not the worst. But just too much tendon and unchewable parts in their rare cuts, so next time, I'll go with the medium rare, as that was a beauty. Meat was tender regardless for both cuts, but the medium rare looks like the way to go here. Overall, JPs Bistro will warrant another visit back from me. I look forward to trying the prime rib again, but without the veggies next time. The staff here were quite friendly, helpful, and attentive. The pricing here is comparable, while the prime rib pricing is a great value especially for those who just want meat. read more

Went for breakfast. Two stars for the meal, with an extra star for heart. COOL: Good deal for the price. The omelet was pretty good. The bacon was thin sliced, but well cooked. The country gravy wasn't bad. WEIRD: The coffee was meh/okay, but they only have CoffeeMate creamer. The biscuits were very stale, with rock-hard edges. The "homemade potatoes" that come with are just hash browns. And no fountain sodas... IT'S $2.75 FOR A SINGLE CAN. My coffee cup was kept full, though, and Michelle the server was fantastic. From the reviews, looks like we should try coming back for supper. And we might just do that. read more

Asked what the rotating tab was and got "Del Cielo Hazy" but they didn't know which one. Tasted good but I would have liked to know which specific brew. read more

My family and i went in to get breakfast, and seeing the large crowd we thought it would be great. the wait when we were seated was 45 minutes to get out food. we ordered the irish benedict, huevos rancheros, and the waffle combo. none of these dishes were well cooked. the hashbrowns on the benedict was soupy, the cornbeef was also burnt and super dry. the waffle was also severely dry where you needed to take a gulp of water to swallow it. the bacon that came with the waffle was so burnt and crisp that it crumbled in our hands when we picked it up. the huevos rancheros was so soupy and tasted bland it was like porridge. when we went to the restroom it had no ventilation and was very musty. needless to say, we won't be coming back. but our waitress was very nice and sweet throughout our visit. read more

We went there on a Saturday ( prime rib day). The prime rib was good and the service was good. The price for their prime rib wasn't as expensive as other locations ($33 for prime rib) and it comes with 2 sides -- either potatoes and vegetables. I got mashed potatoes and veggies.. It also came with garlic bread.. It's amazing having all this for 33. Also, we ordered the zucchini like fried or tempura style. Very good.. I would definitely go back and try some thing different. .. If you want prime rib, it's only offered Friday's and Saturday's during dinner time while supplies last..
