Haven't been to J's in over 20 years, mostly because its slices were OK compared to my go-to excellent pizza places in town. Am happy to see this "old school" place still in business considering how many places have been pushed out due to increasing commercial rent. Decided to go for a plain slice for my "reunion" with this pizzeria. It was a tad still chewy for my tastes, with not as flavorful as those 5-star places elsewhere in town - I need that thin crispy crust on a Neapolitan slice. However, if you're in the neighborhood requiring a reasonably priced slice after a few or more drinks, then J's likely meets your job requirements! Given the great pizza options available all over, as a native New Yorker pizza person, while it beats the $1/$1.50 junk slice places it'll be some time until I return there for any pizza. That being said, I might try out J's another time when passing by and hungry - however for something other than their pizza like a Hero, Stromboli or Calzone. Terrible delivery service. For the 3rd straight time they did not follow delivery instructions!! They refused to deliver pizza to my door and I had to go down and pick up. I am disabled. I dropped by here late on a Saturday evening to grab a snack. Ordering was quick and easy as it wasn't busy and there was someone at the counter. I ordered a spinach cheese roll and a cheese slice. When I travel to NYC and go to some of my old favorites, I find that not only has the quality gone down, but they all taste the same. You can tell that they have sold, and it seems like to a single family who use the same mediocre ingredients. I was thrilled to find J's when I was walking down 7th Ave. It is the old-school taste and quality that has disappeared from NYC over the last few years. There are new "trendy" spots, but if you want the taste that made NYC pizza famous, come to J's. I had a slice of sicilian and a slice of sausage, and they simply could not be better. Service was courteous liked they gave a damn what the customer thought vs. just giving you the bare minimum of attention and taking your money. Looking forward to going back. read more

However I realized there was probably new management recipes after our last delivery. Unfortunately the wonderful puffy crust of old was more like a crunchy flat tire. Nice decent slices! Looked pretty clean. Toppings for the slices were in good variety at around 11:30pm on a Wednesday. I ordered a pepperoni and olive slice which was $4. Although for being a restaurant I was sad to be turned away from being allowed to use the bathroom as a paying customer (came in with someone else who also bought a slice). Not sure what kind of sit down food establishment doesn't offer a restroom. Staff was friendly but just kind of stupid bathroom rule. But come here anyway- pizza was good :-) read more

Mind the three-quarters eaten Cheese Slice because I was so hungry and past desperate for something that fit my budget, yet filling enough to get me home on my one and a half hour commute without feeling hungry again. I found the place quick on Apple Maps. Sorry not sorry Yelp. I did look up the photos, menu, and reviews on Yelp though. Oh, as for the pizza slice? It is delicious! Our dog is obsessed with J's Pizza. Every day, Gerbert smells the delicious pizza and stalks all sides of the shop outside on his daily walks. His favorite food is, by far, pizza. So when Gerbert's Second Birthday arrived, we knew so did the day when our nine-pound dog could finally have his J's slice. We picked up a piping hot pepperoni slice, while Gerbert pawed on the glass door outside, almost drooling. My boyfriend told the story of Gerbert's love for J's pizza, and the chef himself gave Gerbert his own birthday slice for FREE. On the house! It completely made his day and ours. I've stopped by here a few times recently due to meeting being held at a nearby hotel space. I've only been late night, but when I've stopped by I've always been able to get a seat and they've still had a pretty good selection available even late. The Sicilian slice was very cheesy and tasty. It was a tad bit pricey but basically what you expect from a Manhattan spot. I also had a pepperoni bacon slice that was just okay, and I realized later that I would've been fine with just the pepperoni.
