JuL Head came highlly recommended by my sister and it was walking distance from my apartment. I've always wanted to get the double helix but never really followed through until this weekend. I scheduled an appointment with Robert on Yelp, but decided to just do a walk-in one day in advance since I had nothing better to do. The shop was busy, but I was still helped on a timely manner. Robert was super nice and answered all my questions on the spot. Once I picked out the earrings, signed the consent and provided proof that I was 18+, and sat around to wait until it was my turn. I was also given a water bottle while waiting. My piercing artist was Boge and she was incredibly friendly. Boge took time to make sure that I am satisfied with the location of my piercings and provided her professional opinion on where it'll look best on my ear. The process was quick, but a little painful since it was on the cartilage. I really liked how the piercings turned out. Afterwards, I was given an instructional brochure on how to take care of my piercings and paid $50/piercing for them. Overall, great service from start to finish! If you're ONLY looking to get your ears pierced, this is a great place. If you need additional help afterward (i.e. discomfort, infection) - do not expect to receive the same professional treatment. Summary: I returned to JulHead for an irritated conch piercing they had done for me. Robert saw my irritated conch and admitted that my ear looked bruised because the earring rod was too short. He then questioned and patronized me on whether I had properly handled my aftercare. I ended up leaving without service. Details: I had my right ear pierced by Boge 1 year ago (a conch and a lobe). The experience was great. However, over the next 6 months, my conch wasn't healing correctly. This was my 5th earring, so I was familiar with piercing aftercare. I visited JulHead a 2nd time, and Kat told me that my rod was too long, suggesting that I switch it to one that was shorter - which she helped me do. Over the next 6 months after that, my conch piercing did not improve and felt tight/swollen. The back of my piercing also had a darker hue that looked like it was bruised. I thought it was just part of the healing process so I gave it time. The bruising wouldn't go away, so I visited JulHead for the 3rd time. I was helped by Robert. After showing him my piercing, he admitted there was a bruise on the back of my piercing (most likely due to the rod being too short). Despite admitting a bruise, he immediately questioned whether I had read through their website's aftercare instructions. I hesitated to respond only because I thought it was clear that the piercing was too tight and no amount of aftercare could address that. Instead of hearing my concerns, his tone shifted the problem to an aftercare issue. He pulled out his phone and motioned scrolling through the entire page, up and down repeatedly, while asking "did you read everything? everything?" He had just admitted there was a bruise, but kept asking if I had done my aftercare... I had a follow-up question, and once again, he pulled out his phone and repeated his scrolling mimicking. I left after that without any treatment. Eventually, I found another nearby piercing store that looked at my ear and was shocked at how short the rod was. They immediately switched it out with a longer rod, and in my pictures, you can see an imprint where my previous earring + backing was digging into my ear because it was so tight. read more

Initially came here to get an industrial piercing on my left ear. Unfortunately, I didn't end up getting it because anatomically my ear wasn't suitable for this piecing. While I was a bit sad I am super glad that my piercer, Kat, really explained the reasoning and provided her recommendations. That said, I ended up getting not one but THREE helix piercings instead. I came on Friday night on a whim with my cousin around 8pm to see if they could squeeze me in for a nose piercing but sadly they were fully booked - so i made an appt for the next day and was able to ask a lot of questions before hand and look at the large jewelry selection they have. The next day came and they called me about 2 hours before my appt to confirm - which i thought was really nice. I got there early (there's a structure really close by that offers free parking) and sat down. Im so sad I dont remember the girl at the counters name (maybe because I was so nervous for my piercing that I couldn't remember shit lol) - i remember she's originally from NY (go Yankees) though - she was a sweetheart! she went over the pricing and the jewelry and did all the paperwork with me. Another girl (god im so horrible with names - BUT she's a cowboys fan) was super friendly and welcoming. My boyfriend had a great time talking football with her. I got pierced by the one and only Boge. She is the great. I was nervous coming in but after sitting down and talking to her - i felt like i was with friends. She did the placement for me and went over all the cleaning tips and within 10 minutes i was out. Such a smooth experience. I wish I could give this place more stars! I am writing this based on two visits and both were extremely great and painless LoL. From the first day that I walked in and was helped by Boge I knew I was in good hands. Her personality and amazing spirit made me feel like we were friends and I had nothing to worry about. I asked all the questions and concerns I had and with no hesitation I got all the answers and quick comebacks from Boge and the staff. This place is very well organized, cleaned, and up to date. They have everything set in prices and give you no runarounds. I went in and got my nose pierced for the fun of it and it was a great experience, about 4 months later I returned with an appointment to see Boge again to have the stud switched to a hoop, again with another great and smooth experience. #Winning I am not sure what other places cost to pierce or buy jewelry but this place is definitely one I'll continue to return to. I came here to get my conch pierced and to get the jewelry changed out. My piercing went smoothly and it took approximately a year to fully heal (there were many ups and downs with irritation bumps and bleeding when it was accidentally tugged on, but nothing major). I was so glad to FINALLY be able change out the stud to a nice seamless gold hoop. I got the jewelry changed during the COVID situation, so they were limiting the amount of people in the store. I waited outside a while until I was let in, and they were so friendly and informative. Whoever was working that day showed me all the size options and talked back and forth with me on how I wanted the new hoop to sit and hang on my ear. I had to wait a while as he helped other people and for the piercer to change my jewelry but with the limited occupancy requirements this was completely understandable, just expect to wait a bit longer than usual to be helped. I had the piercer change out the hoop for me (thank god I did because fumbling around my ear with that tiny hoop would have been disastrous) and that went smoothly as well. I was expecting to pay a service fee since they told me there was a fee but I was only charged for the jewelry. Maybe because my earring was on the expensive side but I was very happy with that haha. I hate giving bad reviews but I've been to this place at least 3 times and walked out disappointed with no service every time. The workers always have a bad attitude for no reason, I'm not a mean person and they still had attitude and talked to me in a belittling way. Every time I'd ask questions they'd make it seem like I asked the most dumb question ever... like sorry not everyone is a piercer??? I just don't get why I was getting attitude. I love this place! It's been almost a week since I came in to get my daith pierced with Kat. When I walked in for my appointment, I was greeted by Robert who was super helpful and showed me the display shelf to choose my jewelry from. Kat also helped me figure out which piece to get and what would fit since some may be too big/small depending on your ear size...I had no idea! She was super-patient as we went back-and-forth on different pieces and pricing until I found the perfect one from BVLA. As a jeweler and designer myself, finding the right metal finish and scale was important to me. I fully trust Kat's eye and expertise as to what worked best for my ear size/positioning. I'm a huge wimp when it comes to pain. It really helped having Kat explain to me every step she was doing from the cleaning to marking and finally to piercing...it was quick! I barely felt anything, just a bit of pressure on the cartilage. It was also nice seeing the photos of everyone's dogs in the room, and seeing all the cool fish in the aquarium was soothing. They have so many beautiful pieces on display to choose from, and since I left I've been fantasizing about what to get done next. Kat and Robert are both so sweet...I can't wait to come back! Both their ear candy is pretty sick too and makes me want to add on to mine ASAP! JuL Head Piercing - My first BVLA piece! Won't be the last - Jewelry Near Me - Alhambra, California

Jul Head is a local piercing store located in Alhambra on Main Street where you can find stores to shop, eat and pierce your ears! I have seen them for years but never went into the store until a few weeks ago to get a piercing. Totally didn't make an appointment but they did squeeze me in. They were pretty busy that day and of course it will take a little bit of a wait since plenty of people actually want to get their ears pierced. I saw age ranges from young and old and really it didn't matter what type of person you are the staff were all very friendly to you! First you let them know what you want to get pierced and what kind of metals they have. I picked the titanium metal which is for super sensitive skin since I know I can't really use a lot of other metals because I'm allergic to them. Overall the experience for getting your lobes pierced was super fast and the lady was very nice in calming your nerves. She chats you up and then you take a deep breath in and out and then it's done!! Super quick! Tip- I would say to go and call/ make an appointment because yes this place is popular and they have so much variety to choose for that you might take a while just trying to decide what you exactly want. read more

I really wanted to love Jul Head, but after my last visit here (more details to come later in the review), I'm unsure if I would return. For my most recent set of piercings, I ended up returning to Jul Head three times. The initial visit was in November for the actual piercings, the second visit was in late January for downsizing, and the third visit was in early March to fix some complications that were a result of the second visit. My initial piercing was fantastic. I had a pair of second lobes done and two helixes on my right ear. I came in on a Saturday evening (schedule your appointments first!) and it was incredibly busy. I understand that they're very popular, especially on weekends, but I don't think the scheduling was spaced out very well because there ended up being 6 of us crowded against the one jewelry case they have for ear jewelry. It was chaotic and really hard to shop for what I wanted, especially since I needed 4 pieces of jewelry. Rebecca was very nice, although clearly stressed, while helping everyone. After signing the paperwork, I was pierced by Boge. Boge was really friendly and calm during the piercings. Ironically, the lobes hurt the most. I was given aftercare instructions and sent home after paying. Unfortunately, during the aftercare instruction, Boge forgot to mention downsizing, but it was something I had discovered I might need after looking it up online. After a few months of zero complications while healing (pro-tip: sleep on a travel pillow and put your hair up as much as possible!), I realized the lower helix piercing would definitely need to be downsized as there was no swelling there, even after being pierced, and the bar was now snagging on my hair. I popped in on a Thursday night and was able to get it looked at within 15 minutes of waiting. It was Boge who I saw again. She was as friendly as ever and quickly and professionally swapped out the bar. She also helped my clean the back of my ear in places I couldn't see, as the saline spray had been drying out my skin. I went home and took a picture of the back of my ear and was a little surprised that the disc that Boge used to replace on my lower helix was significantly smaller than the other ones on my upper helix and lobes, but I figured she knew what she was doing as the professional. About a month later, someone pointed out that I had a small scab on the back of my piercing. I don't ever touch my piercings with my fingers, even while cleaning, so I didn't realize that there was an issue. Via a photo, I realized that the small titanium disc on my lower helix had basically been pulled through my ear (with my ear skin growing over it) because it was too small to support the weight of my gem. I was able to finally get into the shop two days later (I would've come earlier but got into a car accident the day after realizing what happened). This time, I saw Kat and explained to her what had happened. She was incredibly kind and patient during the visit, as I was panicking. She admitted to me that she was surprised that this disc size was used, as it was normally used for NOSTRIL PIERCINGS. I was pretty upset, as I realized Jul Head just gave me whatever disc size because they had probably ran out of the normal sized flat backs for ear piercings. Kat informed me that my skin healed rather quickly over it so it was fully submerged into my ear, but that she would still be able to make a small slit and push the disc back out. She did so skillfully, but it definitely did hurt. She replaced the small disc with a normal sized one for ear backings. I was still charged $15 for the new backing, despite this being their mistake, but at this point, I was too tired to dispute the new charge and Kat had been really nice during my visit (I also tipped her). Kat also gave me the small disc to take home in case I ever needed it (lol). I understand that mistakes happen and that piercers are also people (and we all make mistakes), but this mistake caused me extra pain and extra healing time on my ear, that shouldn't and wouldn't have been necessary if the correct protocol was followed regarding the disc sizing for earring flat backs. My ear did swell up a bit after this had happened and was tender for another week before calming down. - Ultimately, it's hard for me to recommend Jul Head to my friends and family, as this incident was very stressful for me. I spent 3 days paranoid that I'd have to go to the ER if they couldn't get the flat back out and it was just a nuisance the entire time. Piercings are a form of body modification, and all body modifications come with permanent consequences. I took the risk when I was pierced, but wasn't expecting to have to take another risk when my lower helix was essentially re-pierced due to this mistake. I'm still giving 3-stars to Boge, Kat, and Rebecca for their great bedside manner. My other piercings healed fine as I took care of them well and left them the heck alone. read more

I was a bit shocked when I was quoted $10 cheaper over the phone and I drove 35 minutes while on my lunch break to get to the shop. Once I arrived the lady was super sweet. Granted I already have a nose piercing and hoop I just wanted to buy the gold hoop. Without asking me she installed the hoop and charged an extra fee for installing it when I only wanted to purchase the jewelry. At the end they charged me the jewelry and an installation fee. Then on top of that asked me for a tip.... I've been coming here for all my piercings (except 1 but was out of town), and I will continue to come here because they make you feel soo relaxed and at home even before the piercing starts. Soooo, I gave this place another chance and I was indeed disappointed. I got my nipples pierced here and the piercing was pierced uneven. When I mean uneven I mean one side was lower than the other. This affected the healing process because one side has a greater thickness pierced lower and the other side is higher resulting in thinner skin for the piercing to heal and stay. . This means I have to remove the piercing and try again in the future because of this mistake. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED!!! WHY? Bouge I believe pierced my nipple while sitting down to my right side. She did not double check at all. She did not check where the other side was going to come out through she just pierced it without looking. I feel as though she could have at least stood up and double checked if the needle was going straight and not uneven. I basically threw $$ $$$ down the trash. First time getting pierced here and my experience was phenomenal! Boge was the one who pierced me and she's the reason why I had such a great experience. I came in intending to not buy any jewelry and just use an old one that I had previously bought from here. But then I saw one that caught my eye but wanted it in yellow gold. Very professional and informative I took my 17 year old to get her nose pierced and you do need your child birth certificate to sign off on a minor. No exceptions!! No I forgot it at home, it's ok, you can come back with it. So don't even try it, just bring the paperwork. They walk you through what they are doing, clean and fast. Not cheap but the job they do is great. No gun, needle piercing, they will explain why and tell you why this way is the proper way to do piercings. I went back after my piercing healed to get an earring $300 ( just one earring) and it was a 14k piece I was already breaking my wallet for but I was also hesitate because it felt like the earring kept popping out from my Tragus and they had a no return policy when I called in. I had the piercing for less than two months and it was just gone one day. Fell out of my ear. Went to gorgana in Pasadena to get another piece that screwed. I have been a loyal JuL Head customer since 2010 when I got my first cartilage piercing. Since then, I got three additional piercings as well as earring changes. In December 2021, I got my right cartilage pierced by Boge. For whatever reason (it could be the after-care, adjusting to mask-wearing, etc.), the healing process has been long and ongoing after almost a year, whereas the other piercings healed within half a year. In April 2022, Kat checked the earring and determined the initial piercing rod was too long, so she exchanged the rod for a much shorter one. From April to November 2022, there have been months of discomfort, bleeding, swelling, and bruising on the ear. I visited the store on November 6th as a walk-in customer and was assisted by Robert. He was rude and unprofessional and told me to take out my phone to scroll through the after-care page (mimicking the scrolling and reading motion). Whenever I attempted to talk or ask questions, he would repeatedly cut me off, hold his phone to my face, and ask me: "Did You Read This!?" (I'd answer "yes") "Everything!?". Despite this being my 8th earring, he treated me condescendingly. He let me sit and wait for 30 minutes without assistance before I decided to leave. Today, I went to a competitor shop due to the continued irritation. The piercer consistently commented on the earring rod being too short and screwed on too tight on my ear. Unfortunately, I will not return to JuL Head, ending my loyalty as a customer of 12 years. read more

They did it again~!! Pre COVID, I couldn't set my schedule so I missed out with fixing my ear lobe piercing, COVID happened and I thought it would be forever til i get the chances. Thankfully they were opened up for business, sometimes in October, I jumped on the chance! Got an appt right away, literally was able to get an appointment next day, and went during my work lunch, I got all my sad mall ear lobe piercing fixed, all 5 of em. I know, I know, in high school, I was a mall rat, didn't know any better and went to those kiosks and Claires. But I am so glad JuL Head was able to fix it at an very affordable price, for all 5, it was around $250. Man every time I look at earrings, its like I am at the candy shop, they have a good selection, so when you are here, you know you will find something you like. As usual, I was handled with care, they were very careful with me, with so many holes needing to be fixed, I knew one of em would be a bleeder and of course the last one was. Second visit here. Walked in and greeted. Sign a waiver and wait for them to sterilize the needles. Came in for a nose piercing. Mine was pierced previously and I wanted it back. Waiting area is nice and clean and filled with jewelry. They ask you to pick your jewelry and once that's done, you wait til they call you in. Boge is phenomenal. She makes you feel right at home. I went today and Kat was very friendly throughout what became my purchase of one of my favorite accessories. I called and understood that we are in a panadería and wanted to make sure that I understood what their in-person walk-ins looked like. She was very clear about appointments and I took a chance and still went to look at a new birthday gift to myself. I waited to give them time to attend me outside and was let in to explore the shop. One word, AMAZING selection. I didn't know I needed some of the jewelry that I looked at. Kat looked at my piercing recognized the size and warmly walked me trough costs and options. I had such a positive experience here. I took forever to make my earring choices so I recommend making an appointment so you can go at your own pace. Their earrings are a smidge expensive but partly my fault for not just going for their titanium options. I had Kat going back and forth for pricing and she never made me feel awkward about it. She was so patient and the piercings were basically painless. I did two per lobe and it was just a deep breath in then exhale and you're done. The place itself has more of a grungy tattoo parlor feel which is cool. If you're looking for somewhere upscale to get your ears pierced, this isn't it. I just have to comment on this place. I personally experienced truly A+ customer service here. To start, you can book online, which is so convenient! When I appeared there were 2 clients in front of me. Absolutely no problem, I was happy to see them busy and willing to wait. They offered me free wi-fi and regularly updated me on my estimated wait time which I never expected. When it was my turn to get my helix pierced (first piercing since my single lobe piercings, which were done on me in Puerto Rico when I was a newborn baby), the experience was perfect, nearly painless, and I was guided from start to finish. I love Jul Head. Everyone should go here for all their jewelry and piercing needs. I've been coming here for almost four years (for my helix, stacked lobes, nose, and conch), and here are just some things they've helped me with: 1. I've tried to get a helix piercing 2 other times from 2 other places before I found Jul Head. Those 2 never healed, were super irritated, one even got infected and swelled up super painfully. Jul Head is the only place that successfully pierced my helix and it's now healed beautifully! 2. I had a nipple piercing (done at another place) that was three years old but kept giving me problems. Boge tried everything to help me keep the piercing: she gave me medicated swabs, downsized the bar, but, finally, she told me my body just didn't want it in there and advised me to take it out. I really appreciated her help 24/7. Even during COVID she answered messages so quickly and helpfully. 3. I made an appointment for a rook or daith piercing but Boge told me my anatomy just won't allow for it. She told me I didn't have to force myself to get a piercing that day just because I made an appointment. I feel like all the Jul Head piercers really care about you and aren't just trying to sell you stuff. 4. I don't know any other place in LA with the jewelry selection Jul Head has! Their pricing is super fair too. Ugh obsessed 5. Everyone is so sweet.
