Best chicken pot pie i ever had, the crust is amazing all around, thre breading was not soggy, it was perfect with amazing gravy . Salad taste was ok but all the ingredients was fresh and of course we got the apple salad. Apple was good. Portions are big. Service was great. Felt welcomed . [[HIGHLIGHT]]Its a tiny cozy spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Im coming back for that chicken pot pie.

Stopped by with my fiancé for bunch and we got the cinnamon roll French toast and country fried steak. It was great! The french toast was as sweet as we expected but even bigger than anticipated, lol. The country fried steak was perfectly crispy, gravy was flavorful, and the fresh cider hit the spot. Place was packed too but the food came out pretty quick maybe a 20-30 min wait. Always a fan of great service too so I'll add our server was super nice and welcoming. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small spot inside but the oversized food portions make this place bigger.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If I'm in Julian and want more than just pie, this is definitely one of my go to spots.

If you're ever in Julian, you've gotta check out this place. I got here late after breakfast, but I still was able to get cranberry white chocolate, Belgian waffle. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's baked inside ,not on the outside not too sweet. They also are known for their pies. We got an apple one very good. Cara was our waitress. She was very friendly and patient with our large group.

We were a little nervous about the reviews but came with no expectations a little before 10 am on a Saturday and really enjoyed our experience. Our wait was 20-30 mins. Customer service was good, our server and the bussers were friendly and attentive. The bacon was thick and cooked perfectly, the scrambled eggs were fluffy, and the French toast had the perfect flavor and texture. The boysenberry/apple pie crumble was amazing and the best way to end my meal. The cinnamon roll was huge and wasn't too bad, wouldn't order it again but got it for the experience. The butter on top was unnecessary and the frosting was excessive. We sat at a table near the front and could hear the wait times and the later you came, the longer your wait. The average wait became 1 hr 20 mins, then 1.5 hours. This restaurant is good but not amazing to wait that long... The one thing I noticed was that the path to the restroom is the same path where the food sits when it's finished and is waiting to be dropped off to tables. Customers walking by can easily breathe/sneeze/cough on or near the food but I just tried not to think about it. It's a small restaurant. Would dine here again.

10/14/25 My kind of place, a classic mom & pop cafe with rustic ambiance & appeal- warm & attentive service. After picking up a few pies at Julian Pie Co in Santa Ysabel, found our way back here in neighboring city of Julian. The Farmhouse was sadly closed on a Tuesday, otherwise that's where we would have dined instead. I'm so glad this was right in front of Mom's Pie across the street. Rebecca was our wonderful server who checked on us many times to ensure our experience was nothing but impeccable. At first glance, the fried chicken caught my eye & Hubby ordered a bowl of chili with the onions, sour cream & cheese on the side, with corn bread, of course. I counted about 13 table in this cafe that could seat two to four each, some free standing, some booths- which could easily accommodate 6 small adults. Our food arrived shortly & it was hot & fresh. After the customary photo ops, we dug in. It took all of my courage to NOT ravage it coz I was hangry! It's 4 pm & it would've been our first meal of the day. My fried chicken was scrumptious--oh so crunchy & full of seasoned flavor, the meat inside was tender & moist. The mashed potatoes with gravy were the perfect partner to offset the richness of the fried chicken-- Hubby loved it, too! Hubby's chili was pretty good, good amount of spices but we've had better. It was so good, though to be thick & hearty on a cold, rainy, fall day. The cornbread was a bit dry, nothing to write home about. The best part of this meal? When Rebecca dropped by & we were about to settle the bill, she said that it had already been taken care of.... What!? She said one of the customers had already paid for it. Instantly I knew sho it was because I happened to notice a kindly gentleman eating solo in one corner, and I guessed correctly that he was the one who did!!! I am beyond in awe. Wow! Rebecca said that gentleman comes from out of town regularly & he randomly pays for other customers' meals & chooses to remain unknown. It was already a 5 star experience but Mr. Kind & Generous made it so much special. I am truly Blessed, Hubby & I are very fortunate. Thanks, Julian Cafe!

Originally known for being the "Home of the famous Julian Apple Pie" this cozy kitchen to table cafe has so much more to offer, paying homage to its early roots in Julian, which is noticeable as soon as you step through those doors! Make sure you bring your appetite, as these portions will leave you craving for a midday nap if you come unprepared! The service was as sweet as the pie. Do yourself a favor and make sure you add this place on your to-do list when you get into town!

While visiting Julien , We always Stop by Julian Cafe Love to Support a Family Owned Great Business [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a Cozy place .[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They serve up some Delicious food , Great Portions . This time around we had the French dip it was Excellent & Julia's Hot Chicks sandwich Spicy Nashville Chicken topped with Coleslaw & Pickles Delicious. The Chicken was Juicy & Crispy had it with French fries & ordered side of Onion rings . Honorable mention last time we tried the Cinnamon Roll & Pie with Ice Cream . Cara was our server . She is Attentive, Kind & has a Great Smile , She makes the dinning Experience Wonderful . Makes you feel Welcomed We'll definitely visit again !

We stopped in for lunch mid-week. The weather was nice plus it was not crowded. A plus in my book. Upon entering the nice waitress seated us immediately. I decided to try the Julian apple burger and a blackberry lemonade. Plus we shared some zucchini. Whoa, was my first thought biting into my burger. The combination of apples, grilled onions, bleu cheese and the maple mustard sauce was just phenomenal. No wonder it's a house favorite! I just wish I had enough of the maple mustard sauce to dip my zucchini into. But no worries they had ranch sauce. I enjoyed my blackberry lemonade. More so after I watered it down as it was a bit too sweet for me. If I order it again I'd get half water half of the lemonade in a glass. The zucchini was tasty and I suspect the yummy ranch sauce was homemade. I really enjoy this cafe as I know the food will always be fresh, delicious and scratch made. Plus the wait staff are always friendly, helpful and speedy.

Spent a beautiful, sunny day in Julian and had a late lunch at this quaint cafe. My friend ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries and I ordered the most popular dish - chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes and gravy. The portions were very generous. My friend said her burger was delicious. Unfortunately my meal was too bland for my taste. The servers were really nice and attentive for such a busy place. Many places close at 5pm but cafe stays open until 8pm.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We ended up coming here on Sunday afternoon and the place was very quiet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We enjoyed the food a lot - everything was delicious and exactly what we expected. The only negative is some of the employees aren't very nice, but that was minor compared to the rest of the experience. Don't eat too much so you have room for pie! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a cute place!! Its located on the main road in Julian.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My bf and I came on a winter night to star gaze. We stopped by here because its the few places open and only one that served dessert. The pie was super tasty and comforting. I looooooved the warm apple cider. It was the PERFECT dessert for a winter night. Service was excellent, fast and friendly. I would love to come back for a meal next time!

As far as flavor, I thought my biscuit was dry, the pancakes were ok, and the bacon was over cooked. We had a latte and it was small in comparison to food servings.

First time in Julian, glad we stopped here for lunch. I think we had the Julian salad that had apples, candied walnuts, blue cheese and poppy seed dressing. It was delicious! We also ate the burger and fries and that was amazing! Service was friendly and would recommend this establishment. Definitely make a stop here.

Cute little cafe in the town of Julian. Been here twice and both times we went pretty early to beat the line. Its pretty small inside but not small where you feel like it's tight in there. They've changed the seating arrangements there since I'm assuming due to covid. Seems a little more roomy with them adding booths which has plexiglass. Staff is friendly and attentive. I did not go an empty cup of coffee while there. Food is delicious. This time around I did a simple breakfast. Eggs and bacon. Bacon was so good!! It's not salty, well at least is isn't for me. Cooked with a crunch but not burnt which was perfect. I did share some French toast with my wife and that was delicious. Fluffy and a good size portion. Melted butter and powdered sugar, topping it off with the syrup. Yum! Perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness with bacon on the side. My cousin ordered their pancakes. Let me tell you, they're huge! 3 stacked! So big that we 3 could've shared it and still have left overs. LOL. If you're ever in town try to grab food here. I believe it's breakfast and brunch and doesn't stay open all day. Second time there and will make sure to go back! read more

We woke up early this year to make our annual trip to Julian and by the time we arrive, we found ourselves hungry! Based on my cousin's recommendation, we gave Julian Cafe a visit. We were seated promptly, although it is a tight place, it makes for a truly homey and cozy feel. It looks like your mom's winter cabin but like ctrl+c and ctrl+v, if you know what I mean. Our group was rather large, Mexicans travel in packs, so we had to be split up, but it worked! The waitresses were attentive and accommodating. We ordered the Julian Scrambled (3 eggs scrambled with diced ham topped with cheddar cheese, served open face on an english muffin with a side of home fries, $12.95), Julian Cafe Omelet (3 egg omelet with cheddar cheese served with home fries and a baked biscuit, $13.95), Giant Buckaroo Burrito (3 eggs scrambled with cheddar cheese, $12.95), French Toast (3 thick french toast with cinnamon and sugar, $8.95 topped with blueberries, +$2.25), and Country Fried Chicken & Waffles (lightly breaded chicken atop a waffle, $12.95). I personally tried everything LOL even though I only ordered the chicken and waffles. I split my order with my brother (he ordered the burrito). I was happy with my order! The chicken was no Rosco's, if you're familiar, but it was a different (still good) take on the dish. The breakfast burrito was very skinny for it to be called "Giant", please rename it and reprint all menus accordingly. Still delicious, though! The french toast was amazinggg, the blueberries were delicious as well. My favorite thing out of the entire order were the HOME FRIES!!!! They were somehow crunchy and soft all at the same time, like any good 'ol home fry. They were amazing, I wish I could have some right now!!!!!! The restrooms are cute and go along to the country home theme the cafe has going on. They are very clean and maintained. Beware though, the floor is slippery, you feel like you're skating. My sister noted and was upset at the fact that they had already included gratuity on our bill, even though our group had paid separately and sat separately. read more

This is an adorable small restaurant. Excellent customer service . They are all so sweet here . We only ate pie , so I cannot rate the rest of the menu . I highly recommend this place for their excellent customer service , delicious pie and adorable restaurant. We also bought some peach cobbler syrup for home . It's is unbelievably delicious on pancakes and as a ice cream topper . read more

Well I just got my pie home and after cutting into it realized it's not what I requested. I clearly asked for the Boysenberry applie Crumb and ended up with straight apple. At nearly $20 for a pie would have been nice to have received what I wanted. read more

We came for lunch after hiking up to Stonewall peak. At 1:15pm Sunday afternoon, it's not too busy in the restaurant. Our friend waited for about 15 minutes for two tables to open up for our party of 5. Our friend was bragging about the apple pie burger. I didn't believe it but he proved himself. That burger looked huge. And it looked pretty delicious. I settled for their famous chicken pot turnover instead because I was filled up with the slice of apple pie I got from another store. Apparently there's a no outside food policy. Our waitress told us it's a food safety concern so I couldn't finish my slice of Togo apple pie from another store in the restaurant. I ended up finishing that pie outside cause I really liked it. Anyways, back to the chicken pot turnover. It's not something I would order again. In my humble opinion, the gravy was too salty. The chicken pot pie was a little too soggy. The garlic mashed potatoes was very good though. I would totally get that as a side dish again. Our waitress offered apple pie for dessert. But I didn't have stomach space anymore so I couldn't compare it with the other store. read more

We liked all placed we ate in Julian (with exception of Rongbrunch), but this little place stands out. We went there for lunch first and found it so good we came back for dinner. Chili in bread bowl was outstanding and salad with chicken in crisp bread bowl was as good. We tried a slice of their seasonal apple pumpkin pie and for the first time I liked something with pumpkin it its name. We came back the next day and purchased a whole pie to go. read more

Visited the Julian cafe with the hubby yesterday and we were not disappointed! This place is not Only historic but the food is absolutely amazing! My husband got the country fried steak and loved it (and he's picky). I got the Apple burger that was recommended by our sever. It was delicious! It had minced apples inside the burger with caramelized onions and blue cheese crumbles. So good!!!! We finished the meal off with a piece of their famous Apple crumb pie al la mode and it was the best apple pie I have ever had in my life! We will be back for sure! The wait staff and food were outstanding read more

Food was low quality. I ordered the chicken pie turnover which is their "house specialty". It had small pieces of dark meat, low quality, bad tasting chicken that was bathed in gravy to try to hide the disgusting flavor. My boyfriend ordered the steak and it was chewy and tasteless. He had trouble trying to swallow it. Service was sub-par. read more

Had a very nice breakfast outdoors. We arrived at the perfect time and was able to get a table within 5 minutes of arriving. The establishment has Covid19 precautions in place. I ordered the corned beef hash and my friend ordered the cinnamon roll French toast. Both meals were very filling and delicious and we didn't stop until we had apple pie with vanilla ice cream. I have been coming to the Julian cafe for years, I am a Julian local for nearly 20 years now. Today I ordered two burgers, the Julian cafe burger, and the Julian apple burger. The Julian apple burger had multiple stems in it, that resulted in a broken molar, and the Julian cafe burger was raw. This has been the worst experience I have had a the Julian cafe. After all these years I have never had an experience like this. Hopefully this is a one time occurrence. The cafe was always my go to place for lunch after work. read more

Worst cup of "coffee(?)" I've ever had, for the low low price of $8.50. I ordered a latte with oat milk, two shots of espresso. After almost ten minutes I received a cup of watery oat milk with maybe a *hint* of coffee flavor. I have accidentally run water through old, used grounds at home and I am pretty sure that is what happened. read more

1st timers!!!!!! Came for food but honestly the onion rings stole the day! I could literally just come here again to eat these! They are sooo crispy! And yet so light unlike others the batter was so crunchy!!! And so light you could eat a whole meal after these ‍anyways! the food was also pretty good, good strong latte for my taste! Im no food critic but i am a foodie and this restaurant was bomb! Definitely ranked high on my scale. The food was homemade and delicious, the service was great and the pie was amazing. Highly suggest ordering the chicken pie turnover entre dinner or Gold rush chicken with any of the potato sides but most definitely the tortilla soup. All of it had that old fashion, good ole Wild West days flavor which you really don't find in the city. We went with the apple pie crumble and you have to get it with ice cream whip, that was so bomb. Everything was so good and bang for your buck. I would definitely come back to Julian just for this restaurant. The service was superb, friendly staff and efficient. and I forgot about the rolls, ask for some dinner rolls! So Good. Nice place. We stopped by for lunch in the middle of the week and had no wait. The service was good and attentive. Split a chicken pie turnover with fries and coleslaw. Had apple berry crumb pie and vanilla ice cream for dessert. All good, we enjoyed the lunch and especially the pie. Pricey, but not too bad. read more

Was contacted by the owner Cara after my initial review. What I got wasn't an apology or hey come back we'll make it up to you. No, I got excuses and Cara went on the offensive putting the blame on us because we showed a lack of patience. The owners arrogant and is one of those people that doesn't like to admit error. She boasts how long she's been in business and turned the tables making the experience our fault. I hadn't mentioned it before but will now. They also have this cute little sign on the table that's double sided. One side has some gobbledygook writing on it, which faces the customer and looks pretty ordinary. This I assume is down with a purposeful hand as to not directly advise the customer of the process increase to the bill, but later justify it when the customer gets angry. If you take the time to flip it around and read it, it states that there is a 5% add on fee for food cost increases added to your final bill. So when people get pissed, they can say hey it's posted in the table. That way they don't look like they're being greedy. Let me tell ya, the price you pay for a cup of coffee and a meal is already super inflated at that place. Yeah, it's cute, it's cozy and you can buy a candle or jar of jelly on your way out. But cmon. And I also gotta say, the food was very good several years ago but we noticed a steep decline over the last 5 years or so. Not good. Not special and to be honest, I've left there kinda angry in the past because the meal was silly expensive for very low quality. There ya go Cara how's my update? Lucky for you the cafe is located in a tourist spot because if you pulled that garbage with the crap service, low food quality and sneaky cost additions, you'd be taking a lot more heat and quite possibly out of business. Your kind of business model is predatory in nature and your only saving grace is the location. It certainly isn't the food and most definitely not the service. Jesus loves you. Saw the 3.5 star review but it had so many reviews and a pic of a dish with gravy that looked really good so gave it a shot. Glad we did. They are rated better on google. Give this place a chance. I had biscuits and gravy. The full order is ginormous. Huge homemade biscuits and a lot of gravy. Just awesome. read more

This is from a visit in September. It was an average cafe. I went during a weekday lunch and though it wasn't full, it took quite some time to be acknowledged much less seated. Once I was then waited a little more for a server. I'll chalk it up to staff shortage as all do but still would have been nice to be acknowledged for waiting. I ended up talking to seated guests waiting for their food to assess how long service takes. Funny, as soon as we chatted, I was seated. Lol. Coincidence? Anyway, I ordered the green apple avocado salad with a cup of coffee and the popular Julian Apple Cider. Coffee was coffee. The cider was quite tasty! As for the salad, you can see from my photo that it was MASSIVE. Although I can always appreciate exceeding my quantity expectations, I found it challenging to eat. I ended up removing the salad that was in a separate dish from the bottom plate and created my salad on that plate. I say created because I had to dig in and take out all the fixings then mix. It was great though! I loved the salad and the chicken was cooked well, moist! It tasted great and I would order again. So with that said, although a slow start I was satisfied with the meal and drinks so that's why I rated above average. All in all, a dependable stop for those in Julian for the day looking for some grub. read more

Came here with the family to get some food real quick. We were greeted properly by the host and taken care of by our waitress. She took good care of us and checked up on us occasionally to see if we needed anything and did not even have to ask for a coffee refill; she did it anyways. The chicken pie turnover is a great hearty choice for the cold. The apple pie with fresh brewed coffee at the end is essential after a home cooked meal. Decided to take a ride into Julian from LA and try the apple crumb pie. Worth the trip. Tasted fresh, excellent texture, full of cinnamon flavor and served hot "fresh out of the oven". Currently under the stay at home order the staff is working hard to take your order and get it to you as soon as possible. There was a line so have patience. Today is 1/13/22. Decent service but took along time to get our menus and order food. I asked the waitress for a breakfast recommendation , letting her know it's our first time here; and she wasn't so happy to answer that question. She surely was busy but the restaurant was not full. My husband and I both ordered 2 scrambled eggs, home fries with biscuit - I added bacon. Eggs were terrible. They were the consistency of those eggs you add water to that you get at hotel breakfast bars. Couldn't finish it. The potato's were also terrible. Fried but no flavor. My review is for the convenience of the express window for pies. My trip to Julian, which was only 20 from our campsite was only to be a quick stop. After a quick stop to do errands first we didn't want to leave without taking pies back to camp. We scooted across the busy street to Julian Cafe and instead of having to enter the busy cafe to get pies, we took advantage of the express window. There you can ask for any of the delicious pies they have on that day. Luckily, we had two apple pies to take back. The employee at the window was very friendly and quick. The two crumb apple pies were delicious. I hope to return some time and try out some items on the menu. read more

Great little place in Julian, Ca. The service was a bit slow, but friendly. My son and I shared the Julian Apple burger. It was good. I wasn't a fan of the blue cheese crumbles, and I didn't taste the shredded apples. The mustard and blue cheese was a bit overpowering, but i wanted to be adventurous and try something out of the ordinary. I would recommend the burger, definitely not disappointing. The potato skins were amazing and the side of sour cream..OMG..thats how every place should do it It was huge. We always stop at the Julian Cafe for their Apple-Pumpkin pie -really special. Unfortunately it only comes with crumble-top these days which is much sweeter than their original pastry top. The cafe is small & food can take awhile to arrive but it's good. The portions are generous and everything is freshly prepared. The service & pie are 4 stars but the wait & amount of time to have lunch drop it one star. If you pay for hourly parking ($3/hr in town), be sure to add an hour if you want to have a leisurely meal. read more

The original facility built on this site was erected in 1872, since that time the building has gone through many "lives", including burning down in 1957; however, the final destination of the now Julian Cafe and Bakery was established in 1972 and remains today.

There is just something special about the small-town charm that Julian has to offer. My family and I were spending the evening in town and decided to finally give Julian Café a try. It was our first visit, and I have to admit, when we first walked in, I was a little hesitant. It felt like we had stepped back in time to the Old West, with its rustic décor and cozy atmosphere. The dining room is set up in a way that makes it feel like everyone notices when you walk in, which was a little intimidating at first. That feeling quickly disappeared when we were greeted by a warm, friendly smile from a staff member who welcomed us inside. We were seated right away, and I immediately noticed how unique the booths were--they're designed to resemble little covered wagons, adding to the café's charming Western theme. It's those little details that make the experience memorable. The young woman who initially helped us was incredibly kind, took our drink order, introduced us to our server, and made us feel right at home. Our server, Rebecca, truly made the experience exceptional. She was patient, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Since it was our first time, she walked us through the menu, answered every question we had, and made excellent recommendations. Throughout our meal she kept our drinks filled, checked on us often without being intrusive, and made us feel like we were regulars instead of first-time guests. When our food arrived, we were pleasantly surprised. Everything came out piping hot, beautifully prepared, and the portions were huge! The prices are moderate, but considering the quality and generous serving sizes, it's an incredible value. We all left completely stuffed with plenty of leftovers to enjoy later. Of course, we couldn't leave Julian without taking home one of their famous apple pies. It was definitely a little more expensive than your average pie, but since we don't make it out here very often, we decided to treat ourselves--and it was worth every bite. From start to finish, we didn't have a single complaint. Great food, wonderful service, generous portions, and a warm, hometown atmosphere made for an unforgettable dining experience. I'm honestly surprised this place only has a 3.5-star rating, especially since many of the reviews are a couple of years old. I'm not sure if people simply aren't reviewing it enough, but in my opinion, this place is incredibly underrated. Between the welcoming staff, the cozy hometown feel, and the quality of the food, Julian Café easily exceeded our expectations. I can't believe I waited this long to stop in after driving past it so many times over the years. This café is truly one of Julian's best-kept secrets... but I'm not a gatekeeper. The secret is officially out, Julian! If you're ever in town, do yourself a favor and stop by Julian Café. You won't leave hungry, and you'll probably leave feeling like family. AMBIANCE Parking: Street parking, depending on the time and day the events. It can get either pretty busy or you can find close parking. It has the feel of a classic hometown diner where both locals and visitors gather after a day of exploring Julian. FOOD / DRINKS Chicken Pot Pie (Highly Recommend) Yes. If you're looking for something fulfilling maybe after starving from a long trip or hike, this is comforting. The flaky, buttery crust paired perfectly with the savory creamy chicken filling. Your blessed with a lot of gravy and in the mornings, you get tater tots! Apple-Boysenberry Pie (Highly Recommend) Yes, when in Julian, you need your pie! I was very overwhelmed with the choices so I went with the seasonal and I'm glad I did. The combination of tart apples and sweet-tangy boysenberries created a wonderful balance of flavors. I had the choice of brown sugar crust to make it extra sweet. I even mixed some with my black coffee to incorporate the sweetness. CUSTOMER SERVICE Awesome! I received that small town welcoming. It's hard to receive that in these hustle and bustle towns, these just hit differently. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Good food, generous portions, and one of the quintessential vibes you need to experience in San Diego. Julian Cafe & Bakery isn't just another place to eat--it's part of the town's story. Ok the reason i give one star cause when we came in there is one lady ahead of us was waiting and i don't know how long she is waiting but we (4 of us: 2 adult 2 kids) stand behind her and waiting about 15,20 minutes but no host to talk and nobody say anything when we waited for a while.And behind us its a man and he start walks to the back and ask the waitress and then she start talked to him and she came in the front asked the lady in the front of us and then the guy behind us.That guy was cut in the front of us and start telling her that he is next thats how rude of him,so my husband was angry and raise the voice with that guy cause we are waiting a long time and the kids are hungry and they keep walk around (its busy and tiny in there) and that guy he said he came to the back and asked the waitress but we didn't .We don't wanna be rude cut in the front of the lady came before us.He is very rude to do that.And i am blaming for the waitress too cause she the one should ask everyone first and shouldn't told us that if we are arguing or loud then she will kick us out.Really?We are bringing the bussiness to your place and you just being special and talk to the customers like that?Ok then good luck to your restaurant.First time visit to Julian and your restaurant and with that experience Sorry we don't need it!!!And hope everyone should research before come to this place read more

Went there for brkfst n waited 15 min before server came to take order. Felt sorry for her. Bad management all around d. 1 server n busgirl for pack restaurant is ridiculous. Food was less than par but the morning server was nice. This review is not not base on her service. I actually had to call the busgirl over n let her know that no one has been to my table n she went got the server but by the time she came i was not I'm the mood to eat.. This is base on when I came back the second time to have lunch. The same busgirl was working n she came n got my drinks. After that I waited for 15 mins(looked at my phone when I got sat.) There was the same server that waited on me in the morning n 1 other table which she was waiting on. I never got acknowledge from her n she saw me sitting there or the other server that was working. Heard them all talking but not once did anyone besides the busgirl came to service me. Another table came in after me n they were waited on first. It's unacceptable when amost an emply restaurant n no service or hi, I'll be right with u. They both saw me when I walk in n told me to sit where ever but 15 min later not even come to me table. Bland food, high prices, owner is rude and exploits Julian for its tourist money. Some of the locals we talked to said she doesn't even live anywhere near Julian. There are over 10 places to eat in Julian , go to one of them instead of here. Of course if you like your neighbors elbows in your food when your trying to eat you might like this place. Place is a shit hole, if you don't believe me take a walk through the kitchen to the bathroom and check the filth out for yourself. Julian Grille, Jeremeys on the Hill, Ramanos, Margaritas, Baileys, Rong Branch , and Buffalo Bills (excellent Breakfast), are all way better and only a few examples of food in Julian. I feel sorry for some of the servers who have to work here. Neither me or my family or anyone I know will ever eat here again, ever. I will spread this like a disease . Through the motorcycle communities I know so well , through the community everywhere and anywhere someone will listen. This little restaurant occupies a spot that would be good for a street taco shop. For those of you who still fell they need to try this spot , enjoy a boot full of mud water. read more

This small, crowded establishment has been the Go-To place for my son and I, on four of the last five Thanksgivings, including yesterday. Only his pulling watch, in 2014, kept us away that year. The meal is soup or salad, followed by a full plate of a complete turkey or ham dinner (or one could order a slice of each meat). A beverage accompanies, as does fresh-baked bread. Dessert is extra, but with the generous serving, that is actually better for the health. We took one of their signature apple pies, to go, as did our two dining companions, after yesterday's exquisite meal. Julian itself has drawn us regularly, when I am out here from Arizona. Son will go overseas soon, in the course of his Navy enlistment, but I will remain a visitor to Julian, as this was the first place my late wife and I lived as a couple, if only for a few days, at the end of her teaching stint here. read more

I went up on a Sunday with family and we waited to be seated around 20 min and took a while to get our food. However we were greeted right away and my coffee cup was filled all the time ! I work at a restaurant as well so I know the wait for food and seating wasn't ideal for breakfast, but the food was average not to bad. If your wondering why I gave it a 5 star review it's because I when I went to the restroom I saw 1 cook in back who was older than my grandma, and did not see much help. That's why the food took so long, but I appreciate that the kitchen works so hard and I will not complain about that. All the staff was wonderful. And I appreciate your service! Please give this cafe a chance, the food will not disappoint. read more

I came here to visit Julian for the first time and I stopped at this cafe. The service was absolutely horrible. The workers there ignored everyone except their regulars. After waiting awhile to finally be noticed to be seated, I ordered food and I saw it sitting on the counter for awhile. After waiting 10 minutes I finally asked the waitress if that was my plate, then she grabbed it and gave it to me. By then it was already really cold. I was with a few other people and we never had refills on our drinks. She never apologized for the bad service or even said thank you. I will definitely not be returning here. read more

We drove up to Julian today to have some lunch and was disappointed when we got the Julian Cafe. They have the sidewalk blocked off with signs at one end and tables at the other end. We may have stayed but we saw someone trip over a chair and it as if no one even cared. What really put us off to staying there to eat was realizing a wheelchair could never get down the sidewalk. All they need to do is to move a few chairs. I watched as people had to walk in the street. Why is that? All wasn't lost we down the street and ate at Hero's what a great place! read more

A group of us decided to go to Jullian just to get out of the city. Thank goodness the weather was not that great, because it was still busy. Can you just imagine what it would be like if the weather was good? I always like to come here because of the food, but after we get here and have to wait and wait I always wonder why? I guess it's because of the food and pie. The quaint retaurant is always crowded and they are always busy. The chicken pot pie is wonderful and so are all the burgers. We were looking for some hometown big breakfast and we asked a local and he suggested this place. Good food, gravy kinda thick and bland. Coffee was very, very good!! Service was alright but I was shocked that a $10 tip was added on for my family of five. I was also disappointed for the extra charge for gravy on my bisquit and extra charge for hometown potatoes vs regular potatoes. Ok so after reading Yelps review Guidelines I will write my second review that will hopefully stay posted. Don't eat here. It is dirty and the food is bland and over priced. No reflection on the wait staff, who are wonderful, but I won't give the obnoxious owner another Dime of my money. We waited for 15 mins just to get our drinks and then waited another 15 min for someone to come by and ask us to take our food order. They took the order of another customer that came way after us before they came to take ours. When we pointed that out they said, "yea sorry that happens we get busy". They charged us for a Diet Coke that was barely even drank. This place may have good food but we'll never know cause we are never coming back. Bad service. read more

I was disappointed with my experience here. They DON'T offer any GLUTEN-FREE breakfast options, which was a letdown. The hot chocolate was decent but nothing special. To make matters worse, the bathrooms were locked, and when I approached the staff for assistance, they seemed in a rush to get me in and out. They were not helpful, and do not treat all of their guests with the same courtesy and respect. On top of that their pie is from canned apples, the whole town knows that, apparently. I would suggest going to Julian Grille where you can receive some real service and food. read more
