We moved to Chattanooga from Houston. Houston is a donut town. Most donut shops open at 5 AM and Sunday is the biggest day for donuts. This I was surprised to find that Chattanooga has a different donut culture. Having said that, Julie Darling Donuts is the real thing. The donuts are made fresh daily. I had incredibly high expectations of this place- considering myself a donut connoisseur - Julie Darlings went above and beyond those expectation. The atmosphere is great mix of modern and retro and overall very welcoming. I would reccomend this as a great and cheap place to hang out with friends. The girl serving us was very sweet and helpful for explaining the overall area of Frazier Ave. I decided to go with something only slightly fancy- a chocolate glazed with coconut. The donut was one of substance - thick and doughy in the best way imaginable. The frosting was spread thick - but not at all overwhelming there was a great balance of cakey donut, frosting, and coconut. It was no doubt the best donut I have yet to try. I was glas that it only took one donut to satiate my sweet tooth. You really do get what you pay for. I am very happy I live right by this place, these donuts are my new favorite snacks. read more

The man said that the owner was his aunt. I believe when going anywhere especially a place with sweets that there should be a smile behind the counter and a person eager to give customer service. Wow! If you like donuts...you've found paradise! We visited Julie Darling Donuts because a friend had mentioned that Food Network visited the restaurant. So, we didn't know much about it. We went on a Saturday evening and grabbed a 1/2 doze and some ice cream. My husband and I agreed that they are the best donuts we've ever eaten. They had basic glazed and chocolate and every flavor combination and filling/topping you could imagine. Our faves were key lime pie, samoas (OMG), red velvet (cream cheese filling), and caramel. The place3 was very clean, spacious and cool. We ate there, but many folks were getting takeout. It's on the Northshore (Frazier) so very convenient after a great dinner. Save room for dessert! This is truly a jewell of Chattanooga. I've always have had a good experience here whenever I've been in. There is a nice little place to lounge and drink coffee while you have your donut but the real prize is the donuts. They're amazing creations that are just hard to imagine. Just recently we had one flared after a girl scout cookie, one after a apple pie, and another that was blackberry inspired. They were all fantastic. I was so excited to try this place after passing the signs when I moved to Chattanooga. They are really the only option around, not many breakfast places in the North Shore and I don't know of any other donut shops. However, I picked up a dozen one morning to surprise my movers and they all tasted SO stale. If you make it to the top of the hill you deserve one after your run! Even if you didn't run up the hill you should still eat one.
